  • Haolonggu just keeps us delighted and surprised their choice of genus for each of their offerings. We’ve had a few long overdue models, like the Pentaceratops and Edmontonia. Today is a bit of an unusual one. It’s a stegosaur, but more precisely a dacentrurine stegosaur. And in fact, the namesake of that group!
    The colours are really nice, especially in the plates as befits the model of such an animals. We see definite improvements in the paint application especially in the body, and the sculpting is HLG’s usual standard.

    Just got mine, the brown one. Great model. I also have pnso miragaia (great model) . Haolongood has same details and good painting. Paid quite half the price of the pnso.

      Yes, HLG is fast catching up to PNSO, and when it comes to price they really can't be beat. I suspect in a short time, if not already now, HLG will be the first choice for many collectors in the West.

    This Haolonggood Dacentrurus wins without any challenge. Because there are only two other Dacentrurus figures out there (one by Battat and one by CollectA), none of those figures comes near this Haolonggood Dacentrurus quality. But I like the pose on the CollectA one. So now it's the right time for Haolonggood to try some different poses on their figures. I'm sure it'll attract more attention to their figures. I also love this green version. But that orange version is also nice. Just look at how beautiful and nice-looking Miragaia is. Without any argument, PNSO Miragaia is one of my all-time favorite figures. Thank you so much for this amazing video, my dear sir. You are the best. 🖤

      Hey great to hear from you as always!
      Yes indeed, HLG has shown how good its herbivores are. I think they can experiment with different poses now. I'm really happy they bring some balance to the offerings this year!

      Any episode with Garak already gets a cheat leg up! Andrew Robinson is one of those supporting actors that make you realise how much they add to a film. His performance in Dirty Harry was amazing!

    I don’t like mixing brands due to differing sculpt and paint apps but I do think this would fit in with the PNSO crew seamlessly

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it can be quite annoying to have clearly different aesthetics mixed together. I used to collect only Carnegie, but realised that I was soon leaving out models of other dinosaurs I liked from other companies. But with how far HLG has come and how quickly, I suspect most of their offerings will not look too far out of place next to PNSO's before very long!

    Like many in the community, I am immensely thankful for anything other than S.stenops which was the de facto for decades. This marks only the third figure of this genus ever released which is odd considering it predates Stegosaurus proper by two years. Fun Fact : Dacentrurus was renamed in 1902 because it’s original name was Omosaurus, which was already used for a phytosaurian reptile.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Hahah yes I was thinking of name dropping Omosaurus but couldn't find a place to slot that tidbit in.
      I definitely agree that we really want to see good models of more than just S. stenops, but I suppose that when model makers compare a fragmentary genus with just a spike or three and then here we have another dinosaurs with all those luscious plates and spikes, the choice was just too obvious!
      It's really in more recent times as most people have gotten more and more educated about the huge array of dinosaurs that model makers have become more comfortable with taking the 'risk' of lesser known animals!

    This is a HUGE improvement over some of HLG’s recent offerings. Even though I’m not sold on the more speculative portions of this figure, I think I’ll order one. 🙂

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому

      Haha well in consolation the speculative fillings aren't too outlandishly different from other reconstructions out there!

      Too right. I have ordered 3 recent HG offerings from Aliexpress, whom I’ve had very good luck with in past orders, including this, the new Ampelosaurus and the edmontonia. I see huge improvements happening even as some figures(allosaurus) are still not there, yet. Some of the upcoming releases are looking as though HG is putting more effort into what they’re doing. Keeping my fingers crossed that the trend continues with them as well as other high end figure producers.@@DinosDragons

    judging by the box, the plate arrangement is based on a 2013 skeletal. It would have been nice to have seen a more densely armored individual such as what we see on Miragaia since they're sister taxa but then again, we don't have much material from Dacentrurus in that area specifically so who really knows?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому

      Yes, I would say that might be a big leap, especially since Dacentrurus actually has so few spikes found. I kinda like the similarity to Miragaia but with very definite diffences in plate number and shape!

    Nice review again! I was torn between the brick-red/brown one and this green one. But now after seeing yours with other stegosaurian models, I really like how the green one looks with the others. And thanks for throwing in some of your scientific "tidbits." I find they always add an interesting perspective to reviews of dino figures.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comment and I'm delighted you're one of my viewers who like the science part! Come to think of it now, I kinda regret not getting the brown one as well! I am sure it would have looked good among your other stegosaurs if they are predominantly green!

    • @MacDinoland
      @MacDinoland 11 місяців тому

      @@DinosDragons I'd say most if not all of my stegosaurs are in the earthy tones. So both of these colors would look good. But after you showed your green one with other finely detailed figures, I liked how the green one's more subtle paint patterns looked with some of the others. The brick-brown one over all looks really nice too. But the detailed patterns are more prominent and looks a bit more painted on.

    Huge improvement from wuerhosaurus! Another must have! I hope haolonggood will repaint wuerhosaurus in the near future. I cannot bear mouthless look on the figure😂😂😂

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Haha yes that area was really quite devoid of any detail and you had to really see it in certain light to even see the mouthline! This one has the advantage of being bigger though, so there's _that_ in the defence of the HLG Wuerhosaurus!

    Totalmente de acuerdo con tu análisis de la figura creada por Haolonggood. El aumento de calidad que se ha visto en esta figura es impresionante. Definitivamente a HLG le gustan los herbívoros más que cualquier otro animal, al menos parece que hacen sus réplicas con mayor cariño. Lástima esa púa escapular. En lo personal no soy partidario de ella... Pero hay que admitir que el acabado de la textura de la púa escapular es muy orgánico. ¡Muy buena reseña de la figura y gracias por enseñar un poco más de este precioso animal ibérico! 😊🙏🏼

      ¡Gracias siempre por tus perspicaces comentarios! Lo siento por la respuesta tardía. Y sí, tengo muchas ganas de ver qué se le ocurre a HLG a continuación. Como puedes ver, incluso su último Carnotaurus muestra mejoras, ¡así que estoy seguro de que sus herbívoros también lo harán!
      ¡No puedo esperar a ver su Ampelosaurus!

    HLG really have improved from their Wuerhosaurus. And based on how they listen to customer feedback/reviews, the gap between them and PNSO is steadily narrowing.
    I'm a little disappointed that Kentrosaurus seems to be too small a figure for them to do, but we'll see! I think a HLG Kentro would look awesome, based on what they did with this Dacentrurus. They also seem to be a big herbivore fan, so that's good news for us herbivore lovers too.
    Looking forward to what they release next!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes I would certainly like an updated Kentrosaurus! But unless they leave the 1:35 scale behind, it would be quite challenging. If fans would accept a drop in quality detail however, then it could still work. After all you see how small the PNSO Nanotyrannus is!

    The wuerhosaurus has even finer detail, it just needs a light wash. An excessively dark wash (too much contrast in one pass) doesn't look any better; see the PNSO Borealopelta etc. Wouldn't want to see HLG fall down that route in response to criticism. Fantastic review as always! Thanks!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому

      I wasn't thinking of a dark wash, but perhaps a little light translucency over those squiggles would have just elevated the whole presentation by tying everything together better. I hope you like this one though! 😊

    I've never heard of "da" being used like that in modern greek, it's extremely confusing. It may be ancient Greek or Latin perhaps? Or just a mistake made by the authors who named and described the species or such.
    Edit: It seems like it was named in 1902, so it could be that over a hundred years ago things were different but I can't find any sources with the usage of it even in greek but who knows.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому

      Thank you for your input! I'm interested in linguistics and the etymology of dinosaur names, so this one was a little puzzling. Greek however has been a real challenge for me to learn and in fact I had to put it ion pause. Trying to find roots hasn't been the easiest, especially if as you suggest it might very well be ancient Greek which in some cases can even sound very different from the Modern 😅😅
