I've got it! We just did this. You know the rubberish black trim that is sometimes found as a baseboard? We cut that and screwed it in!

If you don’t have any luck with the 3D print option, how about cutting a rectangle section out of the internal cladding around the porthole and have a recessed section with a cill, framing it and then the porthole will be able to go through to the outside where you can then seal it and stick the piece on?

Valve box from Ace for $10, fits around the interior and Ken Apoxsee or caulk it with elastic caulking and then cut it exactly to the width of your wall

What about some drainage pipe? They come in sizes up to 300mm or more...maybe the flanged end with the inner o-ring will fit on the inner half of the porthole and could be extende through the insulation out to the outer ring...
I can feel along with you, cutting holes in the van, had the same stress cutting the hole for my heater...
    8-o
Solar is up and working here, had to build a roof rack from scratch, now it's all aluminium and staninless steel bolts, strong enough to lift the van on it...
    :-D
    Thx for your inspirations!
    :-D

Thank you for this video. I asked so many people how deep the flange was and no one gave me an answer. I have since decided again it because I didn’t know and now glad I didn’t. Hope you get ur sorted.

Hi Luke you could extend the length by using some black drainage/soil pipe the same inside diameter as the porthole and cut it to flush to the outside of your van and screw/bond the other trim on the outside of your van any plumbers merchant would have it they might even have a better finisher for the outside.

I used a plastic drain pipe of the correct diameter to connect a wall fan to the outside vent. Works perfectly, it was free and more solid than the commercial kit at $100.

Good luck Luke! I love portholes too it’s as shame they aren’t better designed for vans👍

Why dont you make a square hole bigger than the porthole in the wall with 18 mm plate against the van steel with 3 mm isulation in between?
Than you can make the round hole in the 18 mm plate, insulation and van skin.
The square hole with trim to the 18 mm plate

Hiya Luke on your travels call at a builders yard plastic drainpipes you should be able to get 6,8,10inch diameters you should be able to fabricate a sleeve with a length of this

Lights round the iunner rim and a pic on the back (on the isulation) of a desert island (taken from a boat of course) then leave them as features, OR lights and a mini JD bottle !

Luke try kydex can get it in A4 size sheets, It’s brilliant stuff, heat it up with heat gun to the shape you want and it stays in shape as it cools ,maybe an option for your “tunnel” 👍👍

Mount the 'passenger' porthole with the hinge at the front, because if you have it open when driving and stop sharpish, the door will likely slap your passenger in the side of the head.

I do like the portholes on vans but there doesn't seem to be a perfect one to fit. Yet!
Looking good tho. I like the placement, makes perfect sense to me.

Hi luke watched most of your videos and enjoy them also subscribed try a builders merchant something like and underground gas water pipe maybe but suspect you may have trouble with water running inside

Find a nice seaside or country picture and some LED lights and stick with that. I think if you tried to make a window to the outside world you’ll be asking for leaks. Sorry Luke probably not what you were wanting to hear buddy.

Hi Luke, I would get a metal fabrication or steel air duck manufacturer make two stainless steel top hats to the depth you require, i would think cost would be about £100 each. Keep up the vids. Lee.

My printer is limited to 220x200 like a lot of other other people. My plastic porthole on my door just has the rubber seal on the outside.

Hi dude just been watching your porthole Windows installation I can see a problem with the windows when it rains they will fill up with water 💦 and if you open them you get wet you might need to fit a drain pipe to remove the water

Hey Luke, I have a 3D printer out here in Menorca but I’m not coming back to the U.K. till December. The bed size on my printer is 280 x 240 so it would depend on the maximum diameter flange you would require as well. A diagram of the flange needed and exact measurements. But I could not get it to you until I return to the U.K. send me a message. Love your channel :)

the glass needs to be out side there going to be leaks and the wind noise as you drive would be like blowing on the toop of a bottle

  • @ivecamperbuild_thomas4084

So why don’t you cut a round the biggest side of port hole from the inside of the van but only up to the metal of your van then cut the smallest size then you will be able to fit it or get some plastic pipe the same size and have it sloping down so any water will run out
