    Got a tip for you... The first step you should always do is apply saddle soap and a little water and work it in your boots with your hands and a tooth brush for hard to reach areas. This gets your boots clean and rid of all of the oils and dirt thats on your boot. You want a good clean surface so you can then apply your shoe cream to condition the boots and then your oil to shine them up. Also don't be afraid to use your hands to work everything in. The heat from your hands does a lot better at working your products in.

      +Austin Wade This is great information! I've never used saddle soap, but as of now, my boots have avoided most typical boat wear (not exposed to oil or excessive dirt) since I wear them almost exclusively in an urban or workplace (non-industrial) setting.
      Definitely agree and back to saddle soap recommendation! Thanks for the comment and information.

      +Austin Wade too much saddle soap ruins the leather. Lexol leather cleaner doesnt ruin it. I use the burgundy cream to repair scratches and then condition with venetian leather balm. No need for mink oil unless i choose to soften the leather up

    • @CurvedSlightly
      @CurvedSlightly 7 років тому

      Saddle soap won't ruin the leather, letting the leather dry out or drying to fast will ruin it, which is probably what you've done.

      @RubbelisPro 7 років тому +1

      That doesn't get rid of just unnatural oils it strips it of the natural oils in the leather too.. A warm wet rag will be fine unless you got a ton of dirt and garbage on your boots.

    actually red wing boot cream has lanoline which hydrates leather so it WON'T dry out by only using it. also you might want to use the burgundy boot cream to replenish the color that has faded.

      Sean O'Brien Yes, I use the Burgundy Boot Cream on the very same boots, and I precede it with an overnight of Natural Boot Oil, and of course follow up with Protector 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

    Nice video, don't forget to treat the leather sole... especially the edges which can look really washed out and dry, sometimes the layers will shrink apart, a coloured shoe cream (such as Church's) is what I use on my formal shoes.

    Interesting video, however that noise is a turn off right away. I turned the sound off to get through what you are trying to share. I agree with the other comment about taking care of the sole. Leather is leather and needs help from time to time.

    Red Wing suggested I use neutral boot cream on the Black Cherry Beckman's and nothing else. They didn't recommend mink oil because they said it will darken the leather and you shouldn't apply mini oil on finished leather.

    • @culturecurrency8567
      @culturecurrency8567 7 років тому

      Marc Possoff using just boot cream will dry out leather if applied consistently with no mink oil type product, also directly from Red Wing Shoes

    • @MarcP5267
      @MarcP5267 7 років тому +4

      Culture Currency just watched the video on the RW site that customer service referred me too on how to care for finished leather. They didn't use mink oil. From doing research you shouldn't use mink oil on finished / feather stone leather. It's not like the tanned leather like the Iron Rangers.

    • @CurvedSlightly
      @CurvedSlightly 7 років тому

      You really need a matching or lighter coloured boot cream, but RW only seem to do, natural, dark brown and black.

    • @mcblahflooper94
      @mcblahflooper94 7 років тому

      Funny, because I went into the store and they recommended I use mink oil on my beckmans. I think infrequent applications of small amounts of oil to keep the boot healthy will help more than not applying oil. It's when people over-oil their boots that there are issues. Plus, from past experience of over-oiling, the boot can become lighter after one overoils

    hey brother Mink Oil A.K.A Hog Fat is bad for your leather, mink oil is not really from a mink but pretty much Crisco lard...use a good conditioner like obenaufs or leather honey...

    You should never use mink oil on beckman. Never! It's a smooth leather and the mink oil is not absorbed evenly and this will leave dark patches and spots all over the boot. This was my experience and when I contacted red wing directly they explained that only the conditioning cream should be used. Their website also discusses this in the beckman section.

    I own 3 colors of beckman boots and this is not the right way to do it. If you want to prevent the leather to "drying out" like this fool says, you can use a leather treatment called leatherique once a year or 2 years. Don't follow this advice he's darkening the scratches with the boot cream and that's a conditioner!
