- Trying out installing VMware ESXi 8.0 on a HPE DL380 Gen9. The Gen 9 server seems to already be running on its last leg! as the E5-2600 v3 is not supported,, but will install.
Here you can pick up the Lenovo ISO files : vmware.lenovo.com/content/cus...
This is where VMware hide them : customerconnect.vmware.com/do...

For 3$ a month, you get an extra weekly "What's UP" update video. Just for my Patrons. The Support I resave on patreon is all used on stuff to make interesting videos on UA-cam.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.
Love your videos! Awesome stuff!
aahhh Morten, you made me chuckle today .. "it takes just long enough to make you think you have done something wrong" ... glad I am not the only one who gets that feeling...
Good video ! Been running 8.0 on my Lenovo St550 for a few months now!!
Thank you for a great video.
Great to see that you still try to install eSXI on a server, I moved to ProxMox and will think twice to use ESXI again.
Good video man, thank's a lot
You can upgrade the CPUs from v3 to v4 xeons, which are supported by vmware8. These v4 CPUs are dirt cheap right now. Make sure to update bios and other firmwares first, to be sure you have the cpu microcode for v4 xeons and better support for vmware8 from your other components.
Some drivers are missing in v8… even in the latest 7.0.3 (Oct/2022 and later builds if not mistaken) HP had already removed them and only kept the ones required for 380 gen10
Nice video
Interestingly I attempted to install 8.0 on my own DL380 G9 fine but after installation it gets stuck in a boot loop. Could be my server not agreeing with the install possibly. Glad to see yours worked fine, will have to give it another go.
personally tempted to switch over to proxmox or similar; probably going to go through a lazy transition over a few years but I don't buy hardware often enough to stay up to date on esxi
wow nice great
Where did you get the rack cover above the monitor from? I am trying to find one
I dont think this would work on my generation 8 servers or?,,,,what do you think Morten?...thanks for a great video
Hello @Morten planning to upgrade vSphere 6.5 > 7 , i just want to ask if DL 380 Gen 9 with iLO Firmware 2.55 Aug 16 2017 is compatible with vSphere 7.0.3?
Why the Virtual Flash shows 0B used and 0B capacity? I have the same issue on my Dell r6415 with VMware 8.
i failed installing pterodactyl on fedora... so irritating mysql not working at ALL
Is there any real benefit from ESXi 8 compared to the ESXi 7? I like the ESXi web GUI has been getting better, it had quite annoying bugs earlier in some ESXi 6.x version.
Hi @Morten, do you think will it install the ESXI8.0.U1? Also does this server can upgrade the CPU to E5-2600 v4?
It's interesting 😊 but i have a one query from where you downloaded HPE-Custom-AddOn_800.0.0.11.1.0-17 installer ?
