Standa a Swedish company makes some great carving boards.
When burton came out with the 3 strap bindings back in the mid 90's our local board shop spawned a cadre of 'trench carvers'. Basically a group of us who would ruin the groomers on our small local hill with deep trenches. Possible due to the 3 strap binding and Burton Asym Air's that we rode. I was hooked.
Ended up going the hard boot route for carving with an Atomic '56 slalom board for a season then a Rossi GS board (maybe 80 something I don't remember) for a few after that. That GS board only came to life once you were at speed but it was a blast to ride full out.
After that, and for many years, I've been running an all mountain for everything, all the time, everywhere.
Discovering this has me thinking it's probably time to add another board to the fleet.

I would love to see some footage of that Faucett guy, ruining some groomers with this board.!! The Amplid Pentaquark would be in the same ballpark as the Freecarver. The 9000 would be the one for me as well.

Beautiful board. I just cant stop riding switch. I would feel limited with this board while out on the snow.
Same, also with how narrow it is depending on your boot size to really carve it hard, it's going to need a pretty forward alpine stance to have any hope of having enough toe/heel clearance which is also terrible for switch.
@@mikeoclimberMTB agreed. I am old enough to ride hard boots back in the day. I learned how to really carve. But I kinda got bored with just carving around all day. It has its limits.

Yes, as the only board in the quiver it would be too limited if you like to throw in some freestyle in your riding.
But no, if you know how and love to carve just as well, it does make for a nice additon to complement your twin butter stick for when that is too soft for the conditions or you are in the mood to really lay it over or go and make some distance exploring a huge resort.
And yeah, I also learned on hardboots back in the days, but switched to soft boots within that first week because I wanted to freeshyle as well. 😀
Since you bring up Jones’ book, how did you feel about it. You were some what of a main character.
Thanks for the great content! I was waxing my 6000 for the first time and it seem that the middle part is concave (I mean perpendicularly to the camber) that somehow makes the center like a reverse spoon. Beyond the fact that makes it tricky to wax 😅 I don't know what that shape does, may be it helps with stability, that is true the flex absorbs a lot of the irregularities of the slope (and I'm really glad for that). Also I'm an humble intermediate groomer rider but I think that this board helps me progress. I had a Salomon pulse before (full rocker) and I had difficulty controlling my turn. The 6000 is clearly more stable and i definitely skid less. Also the edge transition feels easier; I did not catch any edge.
I'm not experienced enough to give it a detailed review but I love the board 😊
My copy has a over all pretty flat base, checked with a true bar, among the best in my quiver. There are some locally limited concave stripes, so yes there is spots where I need to bend the scraper a bit to get the wax out off, as well.
So what we see is variation in production.
Great content! I recently started riding again and have been using my old K2 Eldorado 173. I’ve taken to mostly carving and even tho my eldo is prehistoric it seems to ride pretty nicely. Would you guys recommend the 9000 as a good transition to a modern board?

I really dont know if I should get the 9000 or the 6000... I like charging down at speed on edge with my current Salomon Assasin but it really lacks deep carving ability for me since I have a pretty big foot for a small guy and I need to be really aware of toedrag. The 6000 seems super fun and would really help me improve my slow/eurocarve abilty, but I'm almost sure the 9000 would be the completer board for me since I like going up to speed so much... Hard choice!

how is jump and do side hits with it? I'm really debating between 6000s and 9000s also. If 6000 do too small curves, means that you will be in high speed, because is a freeride/stiff, but when you turn, you will just skid because the speed is not proportinal to the sidecut radius, no?

I was interested in the 9000, but the good ride guys seemed to be off-sized and didn't have good reviews. I'm tempted again =)
If you know how to carve, do not be put off by that "early morning empty groomers only" nonsense. It sure can handle speed and do large swooping turns, but you if you unlike the video footage in the mentioned review not just stand on it leaning to one side or another, but really carve it, you can do narrow carves down a cat track or the side of a crowded slope just as well as going down that steep mogul field (without traversing, just turn after turn).
The 6000S would be somewhat better at that, but IMHO it more a thing of the terrain, not so much the riding. My preference is clearly G-force over spped and nice controlled turns over bombing down straight, so going with Jones marketing, it would be 100% the 6000S for me. In practice I find both have a place in my riding. The 6000S allows you to keep carving on steeper slopes and is fun (but also a leg workout) doing ultra quick tight down-unweighted carves - but then you do not do those all day long and if the terrain is less steep, you can just not carve as hard and lay it over as much as you like as you would go in a circle and kill your speed. This is where the 9000S does better, just like said in this video, you can put more into it in what on the 6000S would be a more boring flat that you straight line.
My experience is from riding a 158 6000S and 160 9000S at 82-86 kg (+ 2 kg backpack), so more board in relation to weight than those other guys, so they may have rather been under-skilled rather than off-sized, I am afraid. 🤷♂️
Was looking at the 164, I’m 195 lbs size 11 boots and usually like bigger boards. Would be getting this just to rip high speed carves. Do you think the 164 is too big, noticed you said you would lean more toward the 160.
The official size chart doesn't help you out, but you're still in the middle of the 164's 170-220+ range. The effective edge on the 156 is still longer than a 169W Flagship, so the FC should be stable at speed. I'm just likening the 160 vs 164 difference for you with how much more work it will take move around. With Size 11 boots, it would feel like an ultrawide, too (more work to get on edge). I just got the 164, but I'm linebacker sized: 6'3, 235lbs, 14W boots.

I'm not understanding 9m SCR is pretty small? is it different with skis vs snowboards?
I rode alpine for a while and the 185's I rode had a 14 or15m scr. and with skis that's relatively small still. please enlighten me .
Yes' it is different. Most snowboards sit in the 7-8m range, so the 9000S's 9m are large and the 6000S's 6m are short.
With the 9000S you can pretty much naturally (ie. not forcing yourself to do wider turns) ride along those skiers that do swooping carves.
we are Dealing is Very Different Length Boards here .... the radius is longer on a shorter board !
@@tributeboardshop Very good point, too. My LibTech Short Wide has a 5.8m radius, but as it only is 147cm short, the sidecut rides very normal in turns, no where like the Jones 6000S with actually 6.7m on the 158cm length and especially a pretty long effective edge for that. This is what allows the latter to be decambered more when tilted on edge at a given angle and weighted, which is what makes the actual turn shape.
how does the 9000 compare to teh hovercraft in top speed?
Long Straight Sidecut so its very stable!
The 6000 series is way too narrow. Can’t wait to get my 9000 164 on some corduroy.
