    You definitely inspired me to make one for my next beach outing. Too bad I just saw this, I am going to Destin Beach and this build would be perfect for my Island outing at the end of this month.

    Now that's the idea I was searching for. I can't afford a JBL so I have a Xiaomi square bluetooth speaker and have been wondering if there's some way to make it water-resistant. It doesn't need to be submersible, just splash-resistant as I consider using it while riding my motorcycle. Can you help me? Great work you did!

    With that amount of surface area, what frequency are you thinking it's digging down to?
    A usable 100 Hz would be cool

    Neat project. Had a couple of questions. Would it work better with a single exciter versus the two you used? Also would it be possible to set it up to be used with battery banks that have usb outlets? Finally I noticed that there are also 30 and 50 watt boards available from Dayton. Would these provide any significant advantage over the 15 watt board you used?

      I will defently try that one day for sure. It looks cool, and I would love to try out all those components so I will be more familiar with them. There is a Harbor Freight 1 mile from my home.

    These are great: thank you for posting this. I followed your build plans and everything works fine when plugged into the wall, but I don't know how to make the amp board draw power from the battery pack -- as soon as I unplug it the amp shuts down. I tested the batteries with a voltmeter and they are fully charged. Any advice?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  6 років тому

      Just make sure the wires are plugged in tightly to the battery board and amp board. If you are still having problems, call Parts Express Tech Support, they can decipher if the amp or battery board is bad. Let them know you are building this project, they'd love to hear that.

      It took me awhile to get back to this project but I wanted to thank you for your reply. I called Parts Express and they told me that these boards won't run off battery power unless the power supply is 19v (I was running it at 12v, which caused the problem I asked about above). So I got a 19v DC converter and everything is good. Also wanted to add for anyone building this that they should also purchase the "KAB-FC Function Cables Package" that Parts Express sells so that they can connect a power switch to the board.

    Awesome! Hows the sound quality? Does it sound muffled? I was thinking about doing this with a metal ammo can.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  6 років тому +2

      It sounds pretty good. The sound going during the water test is the speaker playing.

    • @vincentkoster6291
      @vincentkoster6291 6 років тому +2

      Oh wow, I really didn't notice that

    • @Toid
      @Toid  6 років тому +1

      It does not sound muffled. This is due to the fact that the exciters turn the case into the speaker. So the outside of the case is actually now the speaker.

  • @craigf9031

    Bloody great project! How long do the batteries last? Ideally, I'd like to get around 6-8 hours at a time out of them. I build timber furniture and have been thinking of incorporating speakers into a chair, so these bad boys would be great to attach to the back of the chair(Maybe?). I thought maybe having a clip-on battery pack as opposed to a permanent connection in case people want to sit by a fire or on a verandah(Porch), and don't want cords running everywhere.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  6 років тому +1

      I'm right there with you. You can definitely give something like this with a lipo battery pack. I didn't do any real test on this. But based off of other projects that use these in I would guess you could get 6 to 8 hours out of it we can without a problem. But if you're really concerned, you could just get to battery board packs, they connect together and you would double your time.

    • @craigf9031
      @craigf9031 6 років тому +1

      Ah right, didn't know they joined together. That'd do me nicely then. Cheers for the info, mate. Appreciate it.

  • @eletrosoldas9569
    @eletrosoldas9569 6 років тому +1

    Also, how does the sound "escapes" from inside this box?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  6 років тому +4

      That is the really cool part of this build. An exciter, actually attaches to any type of material. Whatever you attach it to, becomes the speaker cone. So it actually excites the material and sound comes out the other side. It's really neat. So the entire front of this enclosure is actually 1 big speaker. You just do not have to "visually see" the speaker.
