I watched all the parts with rapture, in one breath! A really huge job has been done, I still have it ahead)) Thank you very much for all these videos, it's really cool!
This is the best Type 4 video series on UA-cam! Awesome job. I recently repurchased the bus I had in college that has sadly been inoperable for the 25 years it was not in my ownership. This was an inspiration to watch!
Thank you very much, Corey! I really appreciate the comment. That's great news that you found your old bus. Working on it will no doubt be a real journey down memory lane! My first car was one of these buses. I'd love to know where that one is now...
Wonderful to see! My family , in my childhood, had a yellow T2 bus, which we used to travel around Europe from Sweden. Its gone - junk - but the dream still lives on. It feels great to see you are so dedicated to the bus, and the engine. My dream is to do the same as you did. One day! Myself I am a car mechanic full-time and owns a VW Golf. The T1, T2 bus is so iconic, and the newer ones doesn't have the same kind of soul as the older ones have. We had a T3 (or it was a T4 I think, Caravelle), not the same feeling. The old T2 bus we had, 4 gear manual, flat 4 boxer engine (60 hp or so) didnt have any engine problems. Only problem with starter (bangin' sometimes) lol, and with the interior heating system. Good maintenance on the breaker points, oil changes with filter, no problem. The engine is bulletproof, no water cooling, only air cooling minimizes trouble. Never stopped anytime. Always going. I still have the pictures of the bus. Gives me such a good feeling.
Thanks for the great comment, Timo! What lovely memories you have! Yes indeed, the T1 and T2 are bulletproof, with the right attention in the right place. I grew up with a yellow one too. I feel very privileged indeed to have this bus. There will be more videos about it to come in the future... these machines are, as always, a rolling restoration!
Ah the perennial problem of too few terminals on the ignition coil.... and don't get me started on those pesky rubber tee-pees!! 😁 Great video James, a nice piece of escapism and some great memories of ATN22 👏👏👏
Your bus has factory option M140. (M stands for "Mehrausstattung") Something especially for fire trucks. This includes: omission of the crumble element ("Deformationselement" in german) and special brackets for the front bumper. With the bumper now sitting higher than on standard buses the bus is able to climb steeper hills. ("Erhöhter Böschungswinkel" in german). By the way, your engine looks superb. 👍
Thanks a million for the lovely comment, Al! With the weather being the way it is she's been under wraps in the corner of the shed for a few months. I think the spiders get the most enjoyment out of old VWs at this time of year!

That van is an absolute beauty! Great series watching you bring it back and enjoying it!
Thanks a million, Liam! The pay-off for all the work is driving it around this time of year, really enjoying it at the moment.

Thanks a million, Dave! May I say, the architectural discussion towards the end really adds a touch of class and pinache to the production! 😂

Hey, thank you very much for this comment, that's really interesting! This bus was originally an ex-West German fire service vehicle.
WOW you are doing a professional work, nice to see your works
Thanks, Roger! Appreciate the message!

Thanks! Great job... 👏
The latest project is red, German and air-cooled, but it's not the VW!
Just picked up a type4 1.7 for my bus cant wait for the day i can have my first drive init. Lovely bus 😁🤙🏻
Thanks for the great message! Well done, it's a great engine, best of luck with getting your bus up and running. 🍀
very nice job , only one think I don t agree is the take the rims but it s ok it is your .
Yeah my front brakes screamed like that too. New anti squeel plates and rebuild fixed everything for almost a decade...
I have a warped drum on the back wheels that's making that noise... but we can rebuild it... we have the technology!
Did you purchase the engine turn key or you rebuilt it
