Well yes if you are stuck in a dead end job. If you are investing your money wisely and working towards new qualifications then you have the flexibility to move if you are unhappy. Relative to running your own business, it is incredibly stable.
As an employee you will make a living but for the most part you will never have real money. However if you own a business you can make your own decisions and make real money. Your hard work and sacrifice is for yourself not someone else. 👍🏻🙏

Just opening a business and working it out as you go along can also work I get that but... getting yourself in with the right employer can put you a head by a big amount. People just look it at turning up at 9 doing the minimum and leaving at 5 and not even paying attention. Skills are important and everyone wants to do their own thing but not many want to put the graft in

I changed career started from the bottom again and became a Captain of large ships. Still working as an employee for a Company but making a good salary. A surgeon may be employed by a hospital and he still earns a good salary. You cannot make a general comment because it does not apply to all jobs where you are employed by a Company.
I retired a year ago and often find myself thinking……’how the F*k did I get out of bed 5 days a week for so many years’. Certainly enjoy getting up when I want to and having so much time to do what I want these days.

He told me to have your own business. I took his advice and it’s the best advice ever. Keep working hard and it will pay off. I have had a couple of businesses that failed but I learned and now I’m fine. You pay for your business degree either at a university or out in the real world 🤷🏼♂️

But you mentioned that you've learned so much. Also the marketing. But have you ever considered starting a Phuket focused blog? Post articles about Phuket and basically become the Mayor of Phuket. The go-to source for tourists who investigate everything there's to know before they come on a holiday. Because by doing this, and once you get the audience, companies within Phuket will come to you to be mentioned and promoted and you have a place to promote any Phuket based business that you build. With articles on where to stay in Phuket, you can promote your holiday stays, places to eat or drink you'll have a place to promote Maybelle's Coffee garden, etc. As long as you're being honest about it and share good information, you could reach an audience. You could promote your content on Pinterest and it can be found on Google as well. Just some food for thought.You could even build up your email list for people who visit Phuket and be less dependent on platforms like UA-cam.

I've been living in Thailand for many a year now, and been a visitor for over 30. When I lived in Phuket one of the things that struck me was the state of the beaches. On the South China Sea side (Samui, Chang, Pha Ngan, Tao etc) as soon as a storm passed the locals would be out cleaning the beaches, but on the Andaman side, or at least in Phuket, this wasn't the case, beaches often littered. We used to drive past your place, the turning to it at least, when we lived in Chalong but never quite made it there. Phuket feels to me like it's sold it's soul - nothing especially Thai left there, even the workers couldn't speak Thai as they were all Phillipino or Burmese

I retired at 53 . I live off dividends mainly from blue-chip companies. Totally passive income. I've never really worked particularly hard, just very smart, and continually invested my money. 🙂
Delivery, especially food delivery has many challenges. Traffic. Time and temperature of your product. Liability for drivers and others. Number of deliveries vs number of drivers, especially in bad weather. If the drivers are late, it can result in bad reviews. Remake of orders and loss of income. 3rd party delivery companies want 30% of the subtotal. Grab, Uber, etc. As the boss, expect phone calls from angry customers saying “Where’s my food.” And they all want compensation.$$$

I saw that same restaurant for sale too. I ate there once but had better steaks for less in Phuket. It’s also set back from the road with a tiny sign and very low lighting so it’s not very inviting. Still, very interesting that it’s up for sale already. Even Blue Tree’s Lagoon business has had to pivot to something else as it apparently hasn’t proved viable. It’s not just the small entrepreneurs who don’t get it right

Ex Expat 27 years in Thailand, very difficult to do any physical business successfully without the aid of a Thai, it can work but in my experience 95% fail and some miserably.
I was about to set up in Siem Reap and rent a bar there, I have a unique idea and have some good ideas but I am also not foolish. And with the lack of tourist in Siem Reap etc I am looking at other options to stay there. I have an online business which I am setting up but will register it in Cambodia but also plan to stay reguarly in Phuket . (fellow Brit from Llandudno North Wales despite the profile pic)

@nikkimclay5474 I am thinking about the reality and not in dream world. Let's break it down. His resturant has plenty overheads. It is not so cheap compared to others. It is out of the way so costs people to get there. This is supposed to be his money spinner. I do not think he has much profit after paying bills. I also think his income for the anb is not great. So now he is thinking of other ideas to supplement income. One big thing to remember is that trying to compete in markets that are already well established is hard. Where is all this money going to come from for him to start up all these other businesses he is thinking of starting. Let's follow his channel and see what happens. Some other people's comments reflect the same view as mine. There seems to be hints of struggles with financial issues in his last couple of videos. I wish him all the best. I may be wrong time will tell.

Marathon not a sprint I think you meant. The problem comes later in life in Thailand with your own business, what will you do once you are too old to continue and the business never became a success?? Of course you can continue as long as you want, but things get more difficult at a certain age. That's the difference in the UK where you have a pension.
@@DiscoDrew yes but to get full pension you must have 35 qualifing years I believe Richie around 50 so possibly not entitled to full amount and its also it will be frozen at what ever rate he receives in his first payment because if he lives out of UK for more than 180 days in one year he will not being intitled to any inflation increases so each year the value will be going down as cost rise in Thailand so not a good idea to rely on just that. Plus at present 67 is the earliest he can get state pension if his age aound 50 or under so got probably 20 years to wait
To me it doesnt make sense to do what a million others in Thailand are also doing ... having a restaurant and renting a flat, a house or a motorbike ... that has to become a problem, sooner or later. Whats up in low season, when it rains, the weather is bad, when there are only a few tourists maybe?! ... i can literally feel in your videos, that you suffer, although you deny that. Thailand is a terrible place to start a business. The requirements to open and get a work permit are just downright ridiculous. Just imagine your a chef and you wanna open your own restaurant however you have to hire Thai chefs to get a work permit. By the time you have paid for the workers you have not made a decent profit at all. You are the one who is the Chef not the staff. That is why Thailand is not the best place for all businesses. Businesses in which the talent resides in yourself is not worth it at all. I am a photographer and have enquired already however decided against it. I am the one with the gear and talent so why would I wanna waste my money to hire Thai's??

I am the same Richie. Typically after 3-5 years I have to change job and or location. I find that exciting. Gotta keep fresh and interesting.

I saw that same restaurant for sale too. I ate there once but had better steaks for less in Phuket. It’s also set back from the road with a tiny sign and very low lighting so it’s not very inviting. Still, very interesting that it’s up for sale already. Even Blue Tree’s Lagoon business has had to pivot to something else as it apparently hasn’t proved viable. It’s not just the small entrepreneurs who don’t get it right
I always use the old adage, "Would you buy a used car from this person? Hmm...

Ex Expat 27 years in Thailand, very difficult to do any physical business successfully without the aid of a Thai, it can work but in my experience 95% fail and some miserably.

I was about to set up in Siem Reap and rent a bar there, I have a unique idea and have some good ideas but I am also not foolish. And with the lack of tourist in Siem Reap etc I am looking at other options to stay there. I have an online business which I am setting up but will register it in Cambodia but also plan to stay reguarly in Phuket . (fellow Brit from Llandudno North Wales despite the profile pic)

Richie will need more and more income as his daughter grows up. At the moment I think his current businesses will not bring in enough income. Market is too saturated.

@nikkimclay5474 I am thinking about the reality and not in dream world. Let's break it down. His resturant has plenty overheads. It is not so cheap compared to others. It is out of the way so costs people to get there. This is supposed to be his money spinner. I do not think he has much profit after paying bills. I also think his income for the anb is not great. So now he is thinking of other ideas to supplement income. One big thing to remember is that trying to compete in markets that are already well established is hard. Where is all this money going to come from for him to start up all these other businesses he is thinking of starting. Let's follow his channel and see what happens. Some other people's comments reflect the same view as mine. There seems to be hints of struggles with financial issues in his last couple of videos. I wish him all the best. I may be wrong time will tell.

The problem comes later in life in Thailand with your own business, what will you do once you are too old to continue and the business never became a success??
Of course you can continue as long as you want, but things get more difficult at a certain age.
That's the difference in the UK where you have a pension.
The state pension is still available for expats.

@@DiscoDrew yes but to get full pension you must have 35 qualifing years I believe Richie around 50 so possibly not entitled to full amount and its also it will be frozen at what ever rate he receives in his first payment because if he lives out of UK for more than 180 days in one year he will not being intitled to any inflation increases so each year the value will be going down as cost rise in Thailand so not a good idea to rely on just that. Plus at present 67 is the earliest he can get state pension if his age aound 50 or under so got probably 20 years to wait

To me it doesnt make sense to do what a million others in Thailand are also doing ... having a restaurant and renting a flat, a house or a motorbike ... that has to become a problem, sooner or later. Whats up in low season, when it rains, the weather is bad, when there are only a few tourists maybe?! ... i can literally feel in your videos, that you suffer, although you deny that. Maybe i am wrong ... 🙏

Well, you know .. its a dream .. not real .. how can you survive with a wife and a daughter dreaming of something .. you cant. Of course he seems to be smart and diligent, but there is something unspoken in his videos .. i think, the whole situation is harder than described.
These guys did better than most they have a beautiful peaceful garden atmosphere and out of the busy streets.

To me you are incredibly negative, his wife is now a stay at home mum, that’s a big win after she worked hard to establish their business. Most mums in the West have to return to work.
Thailand is a terrible place to start a business. The requirements to open and get a work permit are just downright ridiculous. Just imagine your a chef and you wanna open your own restaurant however you have to hire Thai chefs to get a work permit. By the time you have paid for the workers you have not made a decent profit at all. You are the one who is the Chef not the staff. That is why Thailand is not the best place for all businesses. Businesses in which the talent resides in yourself is not worth it at all. I am a photographer and have enquired already however decided against it. I am the one with the gear and talent so why would I wanna waste my money to hire Thai's??

I would not describe you as an entrepreneur , I remember in a video you mentioned that you racked up the 13k start up costs on your cr3dit card when you started your coffee shop this was,a huge risk lucky for you your coffee shop has turned a profit .. most foreigners starting a business like this in Thailand fail
If he’s not an entrepreneur what is he ? The definition is exactly what he is & no it was not luck but hardwork that got them success. He’s also still workin on new business opportunities, why can’t you just congratulate him ? Also, his wife is a stay at home mum, that’s success in itself, not many in the West can afford to raise their own kids.
You are so confused with the West and Thailand. You seem to think everything in the West is the same as in Thailand. Just because his wife is a stay at home wife does not make him a successful bussiness owner. You forgot to compare the cost of living in the West compared to Thailand. You forget that Thailand and the West are different in many ways. Cost of living in some countries in the West very high so sometimes both husband and wife have to work even although both are successful in their business.
