Camping on an ARMY BASE in Savannah, GA + Tybee Island | S2:E3

  • Before we headed out west, we decided to spend my birthday (and the 4th of July) in Savannah, Georgia. We booked a site at Lott's Island RV Park on Hunter Army Airfield, our first experience in a military campground, but Trish ran into a few issues when she tried to get past the gate guard. Once we were settled in, we had a surprise visit from some very special people, which more than made up for the constant thunderstorms and COVID restrictions that kept us trapped in the camper the whole time. Fortunately, we did get a day of sunshine and got to breathe a little ocean air on Tybee Island before understanding how important Independence Day really was to us.
Our full-time RV journey is just getting started! SUBSCRIBE and hit the notification bell to see how we turned the trainwreck of 2020 into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Hunter Army Airfield is on of my favorite bases. The military camp grounds are great. I retired from the army in 2007. My son lost his ID card the day I was retiring I had to go to the ID card to get it replaced before my ceremony. So I understand the requirement especially with all the crazy stuff going on.

#1 reason I love living on base... security. Every Army base requires military ID or pass to get on base. Visitors weren't aloud on base in the beginning of covid19.

The first time you have to get the visitor pass is intimidating but after that it becomes easy. I had to do it all the time to visit my brother and my best friend who lived in housing. Lol

great video (even though 2 years later), you are the first one that has its videos in orders (i gave up watching the other ones due to it not being in order), i like to watch experiences while out on the road so hopefully one day me and my wife will be able to do it when we retire. sorry to see the reason why you had to rv, but as your tattoo says "THIS TO SHALL PASS" which is so true. so keep spitting them out and be safe and above all else enjoy and make a lot of memories.

My wife feels the same way, it can be intimidating for those who have no clue what military bases are like.

First video was this one, I was stationed on Hunter Army/Air base in the 80’s. I’m looking forward to camping there sometime now that I’m retired and have a camper. I’ve got to get my veteran ID first. My wife has a spouse id from her previous marriage.

Fort Benning’s Uchee Creek is probably one of the best Military Camp grounds. You don’t have to go through a check point gate if you enter through the Alabama side

Hi, I just discovered you guys today! Love your channel so far, cute kids😎 I love how you care about keeping it real. I’m going through a very similar situation and will be full-time RVing in a fifth wheel Arctic Fox, in November. Just wanted to let you two know, that I totally enjoy the raw, realistic vibe of your channel. Thanks for taking the time to share!

They all can be a bit different. I’m a DoD employee and travel solo. But, when in Colorado Springs during height of pandemic, they allowed another vehicle behind you entry and no visitors pass. My Nephew is a Sergeant & was over in Afghanistan & his Parents, my Sister & Husband stayed there with no issues…btw, great base !!! I’ve been to about 4 bases across USA now & no issues or hearing anything negative. Will give this one a try this Winter.

Love the video, staying at a military base requires following military rules. The visitor pass was totally understandable. A old man blew himself up in a rv because he did not like AT&T's 5g, can't judge a book by it's cover unfortunately

I’m enjoying watching this season and just found you today. I’m trying to sell my house and buy an RV and do the same. With them raising interest rates I’m having a little harder of a time selling my house than you all. Hopefully it happens soon and I can buy my RV and start this journey. Airborne!!

Just found your channel. I've been looking at the 31MB as a potential purchase, how do you guys like it so far? The next time your in Savannah checkout Creekfire motor ranch, we've stayed there twice and we love it. Pool, water park, lazy river and a huge lake for fishing. We live in Chattanooga, I'm glad you guys had great weather to enjoy the view from Rock City. Cloudland Canyon state park is a great place to stay on Lookout Mountain. Safe travels and keep up the great content!

That raccoon thing is pretty funny actually when I first started full-time rving here in Texas I came across a family of raccoons on my porch I didn't see them until the last minute because they were so still and it was really dark outside I barely glanced up and I saw the reflection of their eyes in the corner of my porch and I guess they thought they were invisible because they thought that I didn't see them and I walked right by them too😂👍👍

Army, got out in 2013. I think it was back in Nov 2019, they opened up MWR and AAFES facilities to all vets with service connected disabilities regardless of rating. Used to be 100% only.

    • @HighwayTherapy
      @HighwayTherapy  3 роки тому +2

It used to be just for active duty and retired military, but as of January 2020, vets with service connected disabilities can use MWR facilities as well. It’s a little weird right now though. Some installations have temporarily restricted access since the situation keeps changing.

We’re gonna get a generator and do a lithium upgrade soon, but I don’t think we’ll spend enough time off-grid to justify the cost of solar. Not yet anyway. For editing, I use Premiere Pro and After Effects.
