Regardless of what the "stats" say. I train with my rifle more than a pistol. Because it can protect my home, town, state and country. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I would rather have a well regulated Militia with rifle skills.
This, absolutely. None of this stuff will make any difference if you are too out-of-shape to actually keep yourself going. Hell, I don't do the whole "gym" thing myself even, however I keep up with body-weight calisthenics like pull ups, push ups, crunches, lunges, etc., go for a run a few times a week, and walk where ever I can. It can even be things as simple as parking in the furthest spot away from the store to force yourself to walk a bit further. Your endurance level and overall health will be so much better for it! You should at _minimum_ be able to easily climb, crouch, walk, or run with your own weight + all the gear your plan to have, while still being able to potentially fireman's carry or drag a family member or friend that may be incapacitated. This doesn't mean you need to be some kind of bodybuilder, just that you aren't going to be completely gassed out rucking your gear for 10-15 miles if SHTF.
100 percent agree, that’s why I’ve begun taking boxing lessons. Never saw my six pack until a few months of getting rocked by conditioning flattened me out. I highly recommend adding practical martial arts training to those who prep. You may find yourself in a situation where you might not have a ccw/edc knife to protect yourself, but you’ve got your arms and legs (hopefully).

@@Crusader1097 a life straw is exactly that, it keeps you alife. Anyone that’s gone backpacking or actually used one more than once will tell you they’re a pain in the ass. If the majority of the water you live by is moving I prefer the steripen, hands down my favorite way to purify water. If the majority of the water where you live is stagnant then any traditional water filter is probably a better move. I always carry aqua tabs and a shemag/hankerch to filter and sterilize as redundancy to either system.
@@waylonk2453 basic life support. Good thing to know is cpr, stopping bleeding, keeping wounds clean, and splinting broken arms or legs. A basic first aid class from the Red Cross would help you learn the basics. Tactical combat causality care is also good to know too.

our money is pretty much a work of fiction. If the dollar loses its reserve status theres absolutely nothing holding it up other than a massive amount of debt that cant be collected.
3 weeks of food and water, minimum. 3 months is ideal. I'm sure you'll mention it eventually but a method of communication other than cell phones is a must. Create a PACE (primary, alternate, contingent, emergency) plan for everything. Glad to see the gun community moving towards preparedness. As prepared citizens we must realize that we are our own resupply.
I hear that. As an urban dweller with no ties to the suburban or rural, I have had to figure out how to be prepared on the long-ish term as well as how to "bug in" in such a way that my family is secure and healthy/well-fed. I've been of the preparedness mindset now for 6 years so I'm way ahead of the game compared to the vast majority but still a lot of my "bug in" strategy depends on being effectively invisible at home.
@@innercityprepper I struggle with this as well as a suburbanite with family locked into the metro area. I don't have a bug out location, and I'm not ready to leave our kids in the city on their own if SHTF. I am just trying to build stores sufficient for the extended family and to train up my skills and theirs to protect ourselves and our supplies. The short term answer may be to have as much food on hand as possible. At least one year's worth for your expected extended family. The second problem is keeping it. We happen to be in a climate with a long growing season, and we have a number of established fruit trees and a small garden in which we "Play" gardening. Even so, in the most productive months of the year we get enough greens to supplement a couple of meals a week. If the wheels came off society we could dig up our entire lawn and plant vegetables. But IMO, it's still a very unrealistic expectation to think that one could grow enough food for even a small family on a typical suburban lot, even if you were a master square foot gardener. You'll essentially be trying to survive as a vegetarian because you won't have the room or resources for poultry, swine or goats. Without ready access to almost unlimited water, fertilizer and pest control you are going to only get a fraction of what you could produce now. Assuming that you are even moderately successful, at some point you are going to have to decide how to deal with less prepared and hungrey neighbors. Plus the leaches out there that just refuse to work. I'd have less qualms when dealing with the second group than the first. At best you could supplement your diet and perhaps occasionally barter any extra. Few people will have the means to store excess fresh greens or protein, if you can even get it. A real farm needs a large amount of land so you can produce more total food at a less than ideal rate per foot. But that entails specialized equipment, draft animals, and labor. It's the reason that some say that the US would have a 90% population loss in 12 to 18 months if the grid failed completely. There is not enough land, tools, equipment, draft animals, fertilizer, supplies, labor, or knowledge to produce enough food for the current population using non commercial means. Plus most homes are not really habitable without a grid connection. A lot of windows on modern homes won't even open.
@@yellowdog762jb Excellent post, thank you! I am also of the persuasion that SHTF gardening in an urban setting is challenging. We actually have a very large and successful gardening setup, but it's entirely up to the honor system as to people not taking things from it, and if you added chickens to the mix (which plenty of folks have here in my city, even in very dense urban areas) good luck defending that around the clock. We've got more than a year of long-term food stored and an effectively unlimited supply of potable water, but yeah we would basically be eating the stored food and using the garden to supplement/compliment by way of tomatoes, peppers, etc. Growing potatoes is a bit of a pain, and if we wanted to actually survive via our garden we'd have to basically convert the whole thing to pole beans and fortify it. Likely not worth the effort, IMO. As for off-grid living, I live in a very old home (more than 140 years old) so insulation is an issue that needs to be fixed long-term, but short term it's not all that hard to deal with via window film and proper clothing, and we can keep from extreme cool and/or warm even in Minnesota winters and summers with the various off-grid HVAC solutions I've come up with.
I think you're right about the most likely scenarios which is why I've started getting away from the whole cqb, 10.5 rifle, high speed plate carrier, "with me at all times" mindset. Chances are, my pistol and 2 more mags is enough to get me to my truck and away from the bullshit, back to my house. There I can grab my kit and long gun if need be and I still don't plan on leaving to "join the fight" and I won't be attempting to go kicking in doors and trying to be some spec ops dude. I'd rather watch from a safe spot, choose my shots/engagements and be able to stop an obvious threat from wanting to be anywhere within 3-400 yards of me.
I think that a full month of rent/mortgage/ALL the bills savings, food, fuel, household consumables, etc is the new bare minimum for preparedness. For situations like you said like snow storms, but also the likelihood of government enforced quarantine or lock downs. And also, after a major snow event it's pretty common where I am that it takes several weeks for grocery store shelves to look normalish again, so it's having food on hand enough to coast through supply chain problems just the same as ammo enough to keep going between shortages.

Good vid, as usual. I think I make that comment on every vid of yours that I watch. Lol. I don't know the exact law as it applies to Kyle R, but I'm not sure that he was old enough to carry a pistol. But that aside, I agree with your comment. Your comments re having the ability to hunker down for a week or so to ride out short term disruptions is spot on. I'm am always surprised at how few folks are even that well prepared in our area when something like that seems to happen every few years. Unfortunately living on the Gulf Coast I've been through four or five of these events. In many cases, even if you could go out to purchase supplies, the stores won't be open. No food, no gas, no over the counter meds or refilling prescriptions. Usually no cell service or internet either. Possibly no law enforcement or EMS. If you have alternate coms you can check on friends and family without traveling. We have elderly family that I'm not sure could remember how to operate something like a Baofeng without a cheat sheet. Heck, I need one! Think about alternate means of heating and cooling your home and sensitive family members. If there is a good chance that much less well prepared family or friends with small children might join you, do you have a supply of diapers, formula and clothing? That unexpectedly happened to us during the Great Texas Freeze. Can you keep your frozen food cold? How are you going to safely cook food? Short term cooking smells won't make you a target for looters in most cases, a couple of weeks in cooking smells might. How much dog food do you keep on hand?

The last sentence is the one people seem to overlook and ignore. Avoid the bad situation. If you feel uncomfortable and feel like things are going to turn into a powder keg then avoid. Drive or walk that extra 30 minutes, because that's a helluva lot better that fighting for you life. If there's riots, looting, or "peaceful" protests stay the fk away if at all possible. Take detours. Avoidance is a skill too. Listening to your instincts, if your gut feeling about something is that it's not right then it probably isn't right. Get out, get away, live another day. It's simple, don't overcomplicate shit with your ego.

This is probably my favorite video of yours. So many people prepare for these insane possibilities, my father absolutely had a skewed view of what he prepped for. Being able to weather natural disasters, as well as navigate financial ones, is a huge part of preparedness that often gets looked over.

After some research and memory jogging....your dad may not have been that far off. There are more than a few credible examples of Russian "sleepers' here in the US. look up ghost stories. Also look up the number of times a power plant and or nuclear facility has been breached, sabotaged, or shut down by intruders in the last 20years. Not to mention ransomware attacks. Most of which are not reported well. Atleast not to the public. I think it was 2013 the FBI reportedly arrested some 10-13 individuals...Russian... in the country illegally, who had been here for a while. Assuming American identifies, gotten married....etc. who is to say that they were all discovered! The estimated number of illegal immigrants here last year was in the hundreds of millions, with good number of those NOT from Latin America or of Latin descent. Hmmmm

@@BrassFacts Our primary and greatest fear is that even the best of people/neighbors when they are hungry, thirsty, cold will ask for our supplies (we cannot afford to stock enough for a long as may be needed, even for just ourselves) and especially if they have children suffering also will eventually become aggressive. You seem pretty squared away so I think there is a high likelihood you have or that the information has gotten to you via third parties, but if you haven't I recommend that you do, especially for this series you are working on now. Equipment, logistics, networking, skills, physical fitness, etc are only a part of what one will need to live through the circumstances of the upcoming scenarios you will be covering. If you can't squeeze the trigger on what so far has been someone you considered a friend or is a very sympathetic character you will be very vulnerable. I am not at all suggesting that I can, none of us can know until we get there. Our deadly opponents won't be black leather wearing, puppy strangling, people that show us how dangerous/evil they are before they try to get the drop on us. I suppose if you are just a fighting gear and skill channel this may be outside your intended subject area. Also, don't worry, I am not going to try to be your pen pal.
14:20 I agree. In fact, Kyle Rittenhouse originally did want a handgun. However, the law stated that he was too young to get a handgun. So he settled on carrying a long gun, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15, due to the minimum age to possess a long gun in Wisconsin being 16. Kyle was age 17 at the time.

Man You hit this on the head. I think we’re all guilty of thinking that civil unrest looks something like a mix between red dawn and the lone survivor with some Tarantino sprinkled on top. I’ve always had the mindset that you’re significantly more likely to suffer financial hardship than any type of wrol scenario. Last winter in Washington we had biblical snow fall and I’d be a fool to be starring at a Gucci rifle with drip kit while having a empty pantry and wood shed.
I spent so much time in that area growing up! 150 miles northeast of there in the Uintah as well. My dad had to make sure we could survive in any environment. I learned to navigate billionaires, farmers, and ranchers, city people, and even bikers on my own. So many similarities among them all. Loyalty and honesty were paramount. Know where you are, know who you're with, but most importantly, know your enemy as much as yourself (sometimes you are truly your own worst enemy). If you are alone, you might survive longer. If you aren't, you better know who you are with. Good weapons are what your brain gives you. $2k ar's and $1k ak's will get you killed as fast as a rattlesnake you didn't see (2 legged kind as well). If you instinctively know which firearm you need in a given situation, have a backup. You'll need it. Never go anywhere without a good knife, and a way to make fire. Your terrain will dictate where you "hole up" for any period of time. Know at least basic first aid and how to improvise needed medical devices. One scratch can literally kill you. Water is more important than everything else.

I'm glad you brought up a pistol being enough for ROL situations. Watched a ton of home defense and CCW videos. You know what I've never seen? Someone lose because 9mm was insufficient for defending themselves. ARs are still far better for home defense for sure but it is highly improbable being proficient with a 9mm pistol will be inadequate.
for sure, I have no problem recommending a AR15 for home defense (also because it's one helluva gateway drug). but im also like 90% sure if it actually happened I'd probably shoot a home invader with a pistol, because that's what's closer to me.

I would like to add that under the “rule of law” situation your primary movement will be with your vehicle and that should be routinely maintained and gas topped off, as you said, because mobility gives you options. Keep a spare tire, jumper cables, small set of tools, gas can, and tow strap. I also keep a small “go bag” mostly with wet and cold weather clothes, water, and medical because I think the elements are far more likely to end someone during “rule of law” day to day life than anything else.
See I thought about this when thinking about SHTF scenarios and I was like “damn being a mechanic would be very beneficial to my survival. So for the past year or so I bought a beater Jeep Xj and have repaired many things on it and have learn SO much on maintenance and repair for cars. So, I'm a gringo that lived in Bolivia during the Water Wars of '99 when my city (Cochabamba) was under a state of complete civil unrest/siege with no food in the stores and almost complete loss of RoL (the cops/military were sniping protestors to try to make things worse: true story). A couple of thoughts from personal experience: * Don't underestimate the power and utility of a blunt weapon. You can usually legally carry one without attracting attention and, if you have to use it, you have a choice of lethal/non-lethal force (which you don't get with a knife or a firearm), they're quiet, and you don't get blood all over you (which doesn't bring attention to you). * Cardio. Cardio. Cardio. I got out of more than a few bad situations because I can run fairly long distance at speed. Don't leave your house in shoes you can't run quickly in. In a WRoL or low-RoL situation, running is almost always a better option than fighting, especially since EMS may be non-existent. You can win a fight and still break a knuckle. * You saw during COVID what people did who didn't get toilet paper. What do you think they'll do when they haven't eaten for 2 days? Desperate people are dangerous. * Night becomes incredibly dangerous, especially when the power goes out. A completely blacked out city (and being several miles from home, as a gringo, in a foreign country) is terrifying. Do your business during the day. * For all you young people wanting the world to burn: I was like you once too. But then I had children and I realized that there was no amount of evil that I was not willing to do to make sure my children survive, up to and including hunting, cooking, and eating you and your family. Desperate parents with children are the most dangerous people of all.
I'm glad I didn't splurge this year on guns and tactical gear. I would certainly be in debt by now. Before 2024 I planned to buy a 3k .308 rifle, a 3k ballistic shield and a 3k NVG set, instead I bought a 4k Truck spent nearly a grand to fix it up and spent the rest on gas (3.05 per gal), ammo (mostly for training), extra food, water then saved/invested the rest. In December it has become clear to me that training, staying in shape, having more basic supplies and staying out of debt is more important than having the most decked-out *G U C C I* SCAR-17H with thermals, Nods and multicam to go with it. I already have a basic 9mm pistol (S&W 6906) and IIIA covert body armor, a shotgun (M870 Police) and a hunting rifle (Savage .308), so I can focus on what matters; training. Once I get the basics down, and start building up some capital I can then prepare for the 1% of tactical scenarios that I may encounter in my lifetime. Survival is the name, preparedness is the game! Struggle! Endure! Contend!
Awesome video, reminds me of the wisdom tiborasaurusrex had without the bible thumping, which I appreciate. Highly agree with you about being debt free, which also means owning a home outright. Best survival item I've ever bought was a woodburner, back in 2012 when the winds of sandy made their way to Ohio a maple tree in my side yard went down and took my power line with it. Had to get electrical work done on my house before the electric company could put the power line back. The woodburner is how I heated my house, cooked food, and made coffee for that time frame. Dogs are your best home security also, lots of great dogs are in the pound right now (sadly) but an affordable way to protect your house. And no matter who you are or what time of day it is in any neighborhood you can walk around with a dog and any would be criminals will avoid you like the plague. I think for a 1st time gun buyer a pump shotgun is the way to go, but I get what you're saying about ccw and agree. An ar15 isn't the first thing Id recommend people get, but I know LOTS of my coworkers had my boss build them one after I showed him how to build a lower. People should also learn skills that would both help them in practical ways, and for trade. Soap, jar candles, beer, a home still, etc. Just a few ideas.
I'm trying so hard for the home bit... but uh. we might need a market crash first before new homers can be a thing. Yeah AR15s are good first guns in the sense that they're fun, and easy. It gets people pumped. Handguns 50% of the time are so hard to shoot people just give up with the self improvement.
I think an underrated "PDW" option is a reliable extended magazine or two. With a red dot, a light, and a 30 round magazine, you're at something close to 80% of a rifle IMO. A realistic CCW compromise is something like a Magpul 21 rounder. Having 2 spare 21 rounders versus 2 spare 15s gives you another 12 rounds of ammo, almost a full extra magazine's worth. 2 30s is literally double capacity. On body carry sucks for these (unless you get a shoulder rig, but that's very niche too) but there are plenty of "tactical" messenger bags out there with big velcro fields to attach magazine carriers on. I've messed with a few of them and most of them are decent bags.

At 13:15 you mentioned something I would critique as an Army medic. Don’t ever use your own IFAK on anyone else. Only use theirs on them. That’s CLS rule #1. Other than that I think you make some really good points in my opinion. Great video!
This video is terrific, lots of good information. It was refreshing to hear someone talking about the less cool but definitely more likely scenarios and practical ways to prepare for them. I hope you do more videos in this series.

Awesome video, I would like to point out that having a long term food/water storage is great. But be ready to walk away from it if needed. Have a contingency plan to move at a moments notice and still be able to take care of yourself and loved ones. Stuff can be replaced your life cant.
A voice of reason in a sea of preppers screeching and flexing their action movie fantasies, great stuff keep it coming. Something that might be interesting to do, to level set everyone even more, do a quick statistical breakdown of the likelihood of you being in one of these two scenarios compared to even just a normal concealed carry defensive use. We are really talking about very small likelihoods stacked on top of small likelihoods.

I got called up for the SLC Riots, changed my perspective on what I should have in my go-bag quite a bit: Padded clothing/hockey gear, aluminum splint, eye-rinse kit, pepper-spray, goggles and face cover (gas mask is also good, but makes you high-vis) fire extinguisher, and the all important: water and change of clean socks. Good stuff, looking forward to more on this topic
In long term SHTF, I think most of us would be better off with a good set of rain/inclimate weather gear instead of level IV plates. It would really suck to die of hypothermia wearing a sweet JPC full of Hesco 3810s. At least your corps would look cool.
A tarp and warm clothing would prevent that from happening too. This is where knowledge matters before making a decision on how to prep and what to prep for.

Pistol caliber rifles are smart to have because you can mount a red dot or scope, 30+ round magazines, hold with 2 hands, and can be concealed easier than a long rifle. You can have one under a hoodie, handgun holstered.
You forgot one of the biggest advantages of a pistol caliber carbine. The ability to run the same magazines in your carbine that your sidearm is using.

For using an AR15 for home defense, consider buying home defense rounds that break inside the intruder's body and doesnt penetrate as much. Keep your neighbors, wife, kids safe by using a responsible round. You are responsible for every round that leaves your barrel, whether it is against a home intruder or a neighbor's child
Another thing that is critical to understand is the difference between urban preparedness and rural preparedness. In a rural setting you may have to consider stocking up on animal feed, and if you have trees or a stream on your land, being able to navigate all the risks those create is essential. A family friend recently had a windstorm blow through his area, and he hadn't trimmed his trees. Part of the shade tree over his house collapsed on his roof and another tree on his driveway. He had a small chainsaw and was unable to clear his driveway. Thankfully others were able to help him. If you're renting out an apartment or a condo, you likely won't have to worry about this at all.

I’m guessing you’re on the western slope. I am on the eastern of the Rockies. I like that you’re in a similar environment. Familiarity is helpful when taking advice. Water will be the real commodity imo. Pretty sure we are far from the “water wars” though. Damn medical industrial complex has me in that debt category. Working everyday to change that. This, absolutely. None of this stuff will make any difference if you are too out-of-shape to actually keep yourself going. Hell, I don't do the whole "gym" thing myself even, however I keep up with body-weight calisthenics like pull ups, push ups, crunches, lunges, etc., go for a run a few times a week, and walk where ever I can. It can even be things as simple as parking in the furthest spot away from the store to force yourself to walk a bit further. Your endurance level and overall health will be so much better for it! You should at _minimum_ be able to easily climb, crouch, walk, or run with your own weight + all the gear your plan to have, while still being able to potentially fireman's carry or drag a family member or friend that may be incapacitated. This doesn't mean you need to be some kind of bodybuilder, just that you aren't going to be completely gassed out rucking your gear for 10-15 miles if SHTF.
100 percent agree, that’s why I’ve begun taking boxing lessons. Never saw my six pack until a few months of getting rocked by conditioning flattened me out. I highly recommend adding practical martial arts training to those who prep. You may find yourself in a situation where you might not have a ccw/edc knife to protect yourself, but you’ve got your arms and legs (hopefully).

@@Crusader1097 a life straw is exactly that, it keeps you alife. Anyone that’s gone backpacking or actually used one more than once will tell you they’re a pain in the ass. If the majority of the water you live by is moving I prefer the steripen, hands down my favorite way to purify water. If the majority of the water where you live is stagnant then any traditional water filter is probably a better move. I always carry aqua tabs and a shemag/hankerch to filter and sterilize as redundancy to either system.

our money is pretty much a work of fiction. If the dollar loses its reserve status theres absolutely nothing holding it up other than a massive amount of debt that cant be collected.
3 weeks of food and water, minimum. 3 months is ideal. I'm sure you'll mention it eventually but a method of communication other than cell phones is a must. Create a PACE (primary, alternate, contingent, emergency) plan for everything. Glad to see the gun community moving towards preparedness. As prepared citizens we must realize that we are our own resupply.

I hear that. As an urban dweller with no ties to the suburban or rural, I have had to figure out how to be prepared on the long-ish term as well as how to "bug in" in such a way that my family is secure and healthy/well-fed. I've been of the preparedness mindset now for 6 years so I'm way ahead of the game compared to the vast majority but still a lot of my "bug in" strategy depends on being effectively invisible at home.

I don't have a bug out location, and I'm not ready to leave our kids in the city on their own if SHTF. I am just trying to build stores sufficient for the extended family and to train up my skills and theirs to protect ourselves and our supplies. The short term answer may be to have as much food on hand as possible. At least one year's worth for your expected extended family. The second problem is keeping it. We happen to be in a climate with a long growing season, and we have a number of established fruit trees and a small garden in which we "Play" gardening. Even so, in the most productive months of the year we get enough greens to supplement a couple of meals a week. If the wheels came off society we could dig up our entire lawn and plant vegetables. But IMO, it's still a very unrealistic expectation to think that one could grow enough food for even a small family on a typical suburban lot, even if you were a master square foot gardener. You'll essentially be trying to survive as a vegetarian because you won't have the room or resources for poultry, swine or goats. Without ready access to almost unlimited water, fertilizer and pest control you are going to only get a fraction of what you could produce now. Assuming that you are even moderately successful, at some point you are going to have to decide how to deal with less prepared and hungrey neighbors. Plus the leaches out there that just refuse to work. I'd have less qualms when dealing with the second group than the first. At best you could supplement your diet and perhaps occasionally barter any extra. Few people will have the means to store excess fresh greens or protein, if you can even get it. A real farm needs a large amount of land so you can produce more total food at a less than ideal rate per foot. But that entails specialized equipment, draft animals, and labor. It's the reason that some say that the US would have a 90% population loss in 12 to 18 months if the grid failed completely. There is not enough land, tools, equipment, draft animals, fertilizer, supplies, labor, or knowledge to produce enough food for the current population using non commercial means. Plus most homes are not really habitable without a grid connection. A lot of windows on modern homes won't even open.

We actually have a very large and successful gardening setup, but it's entirely up to the honor system as to people not taking things from it, and if you added chickens to the mix (which plenty of folks have here in my city, even in very dense urban areas) good luck defending that around the clock.
We've got more than a year of long-term food stored and an effectively unlimited supply of potable water, but yeah we would basically be eating the stored food and using the garden to supplement/compliment by way of tomatoes, peppers, etc. Growing potatoes is a bit of a pain, and if we wanted to actually survive via our garden we'd have to basically convert the whole thing to pole beans and fortify it. Likely not worth the effort, IMO.
As for off-grid living, I live in a very old home (more than 140 years old) so insulation is an issue that needs to be fixed long-term, but short term it's not all that hard to deal with via window film and proper clothing, and we can keep from extreme cool and/or warm even in Minnesota winters and summers with the various off-grid HVAC solutions I've come up with.
I think you're right about the most likely scenarios which is why I've started getting away from the whole cqb, 10.5 rifle, high speed plate carrier, "with me at all times" mindset. Chances are, my pistol and 2 more mags is enough to get me to my truck and away from the bullshit, back to my house. There I can grab my kit and long gun if need be and I still don't plan on leaving to "join the fight" and I won't be attempting to go kicking in doors and trying to be some spec ops dude. I'd rather watch from a safe spot, choose my shots/engagements and be able to stop an obvious threat from wanting to be anywhere within 3-400 yards of me.

I think that a full month of rent/mortgage/ALL the bills savings, food, fuel, household consumables, etc is the new bare minimum for preparedness. For situations like you said like snow storms, but also the likelihood of government enforced quarantine or lock downs. And also, after a major snow event it's pretty common where I am that it takes several weeks for grocery store shelves to look normalish again, so it's having food on hand enough to coast through supply chain problems just the same as ammo enough to keep going between shortages.
I think covid showed that, even a full month isn't enough.

Your comments re having the ability to hunker down for a week or so to ride out short term disruptions is spot on. I'm am always surprised at how few folks are even that well prepared in our area when something like that seems to happen every few years. Unfortunately living on the Gulf Coast I've been through four or five of these events. In many cases, even if you could go out to purchase supplies, the stores won't be open. No food, no gas, no over the counter meds or refilling prescriptions. Usually no cell service or internet either. Possibly no law enforcement or EMS.
If you have alternate coms you can check on friends and family without traveling. We have elderly family that I'm not sure could remember how to operate something like a Baofeng without a cheat sheet. Heck, I need one!
Think about alternate means of heating and cooling your home and sensitive family members. If there is a good chance that much less well prepared family or friends with small children might join you, do you have a supply of diapers, formula and clothing? That unexpectedly happened to us during the Great Texas Freeze. Can you keep your frozen food cold? How are you going to safely cook food? Short term cooking smells won't make you a target for looters in most cases, a couple of weeks in cooking smells might.
How much dog food do you keep on hand?
You may not be the most popular, but damn do you have the most grounded and realistic takes I've heard. Yeah it's fun to larp in all our gear but realistically most people need to get their mile time under 10min and learn basic bushcraft. Keep it up bud

Avoid the bad situation. If you feel uncomfortable and feel like things are going to turn into a powder keg then avoid. Drive or walk that extra 30 minutes, because that's a helluva lot better that fighting for you life. If there's riots, looting, or "peaceful" protests stay the fk away if at all possible. Take detours.
Avoidance is a skill too. Listening to your instincts, if your gut feeling about something is that it's not right then it probably isn't right.
Get out, get away, live another day. It's simple, don't overcomplicate shit with your ego.
Yes, Rittenhouse was lucky he had his rifle, lucky he was an excellent shot under pressure, and very damn lucky that he got a judge and jury who were actually interested in justice and not pure Leftist power politics. Things came together with what essentially amounts to a one in a million chance for him to have gotten out of that as well as he did, and he was still put through hell.

This is probably my favorite video of yours. So many people prepare for these insane possibilities, my father absolutely had a skewed view of what he prepped for. Being able to weather natural disasters, as well as navigate financial ones, is a huge part of preparedness that often gets looked over.

After some research and memory jogging....your dad may not have been that far off. There are more than a few credible examples of Russian "sleepers' here in the US. look up ghost stories. Also look up the number of times a power plant and or nuclear facility has been breached, sabotaged, or shut down by intruders in the last 20years. Not to mention ransomware attacks. Most of which are not reported well. Atleast not to the public. I think it was 2013 the FBI reportedly arrested some 10-13 individuals...Russian... in the country illegally, who had been here for a while. Assuming American identifies, gotten married....etc. who is to say that they were all discovered! The estimated number of illegal immigrants here last year was in the hundreds of millions, with good number of those NOT from Latin America or of Latin descent. Hmmmm

You seem pretty squared away so I think there is a high likelihood you have or that the information has gotten to you via third parties, but if you haven't I recommend that you do, especially for this series you are working on now. Equipment, logistics, networking, skills, physical fitness, etc are only a part of what one will need to live through the circumstances of the upcoming scenarios you will be covering. If you can't squeeze the trigger on what so far has been someone you considered a friend or is a very sympathetic character you will be very vulnerable. I am not at all suggesting that I can, none of us can know until we get there. Our deadly opponents won't be black leather wearing, puppy strangling, people that show us how dangerous/evil they are before they try to get the drop on us. I suppose if you are just a fighting gear and skill channel this may be outside your intended subject area. Also, don't worry, I am not going to try to be your pen pal.

I’m so glad you mentioned concealable soft body armor, and I think it is the thing missing from most conversations. If you can’t be armed, be armored. Especially in strong gun control areas.
My steel plates cover up well. Soft body armor probably hides better, but if nobody can tell either way is a win.

Man You hit this on the head. I think we’re all guilty of thinking that civil unrest looks something like a mix between red dawn and the lone survivor with some Tarantino sprinkled on top. I’ve always had the mindset that you’re significantly more likely to suffer financial hardship than any type of wrol scenario. Last winter in Washington we had biblical snow fall and I’d be a fool to be starring at a Gucci rifle with drip kit while having a empty pantry and wood shed.

This got me started 6 months ago. I have and am putting serious effort into the unsexy preps. Thank you Brock.
I spent so much time in that area growing up! 150 miles northeast of there in the Uintah as well. My dad had to make sure we could survive in any environment. I learned to navigate billionaires, farmers, and ranchers, city people, and even bikers on my own. So many similarities among them all. Loyalty and honesty were paramount. Know where you are, know who you're with, but most importantly, know your enemy as much as yourself (sometimes you are truly your own worst enemy). If you are alone, you might survive longer. If you aren't, you better know who you are with. Good weapons are what your brain gives you. $2k ar's and $1k ak's will get you killed as fast as a rattlesnake you didn't see (2 legged kind as well). If you instinctively know which firearm you need in a given situation, have a backup. You'll need it. Never go anywhere without a good knife, and a way to make fire. Your terrain will dictate where you "hole up" for any period of time. Know at least basic first aid and how to improvise needed medical devices. One scratch can literally kill you. Water is more important than everything else.
I hope you continue this as a series. Very interested with what you have to say versus what I’ve already came up with. I think you’re on the right track by creating a “rubric” type chart to kind of score yourself against.
I'm glad you brought up a pistol being enough for ROL situations. Watched a ton of home defense and CCW videos. You know what I've never seen? Someone lose because 9mm was insufficient for defending themselves. ARs are still far better for home defense for sure but it is highly improbable being proficient with a 9mm pistol will be inadequate.
for sure, I have no problem recommending a AR15 for home defense (also because it's one helluva gateway drug). but im also like 90% sure if it actually happened I'd probably shoot a home invader with a pistol, because that's what's closer to me.

I would like to add that under the “rule of law” situation your primary movement will be with your vehicle and that should be routinely maintained and gas topped off, as you said, because mobility gives you options. Keep a spare tire, jumper cables, small set of tools, gas can, and tow strap. I also keep a small “go bag” mostly with wet and cold weather clothes, water, and medical because I think the elements are far more likely to end someone during “rule of law” day to day life than anything else.

See I thought about this when thinking about SHTF scenarios and I was like “damn being a mechanic would be very beneficial to my survival. So for the past year or so I bought a beater Jeep Xj and have repaired many things on it and have learn SO much on maintenance and repair for cars. I think people should learn Atleast a few things about there own car so they know how to fix said problem

Some of the BEST advice. I constantly push this. I don't care (much) if it's a hobby or a lifestyle or an excuse to burn income. Just be honest with yourself. Be real.
LOVE THE RIMWORLD MUSIC. Best. Game. Ever. Great video. So, I'm a gringo that lived in Bolivia during the Water Wars of '99 when my city (Cochabamba) was under a state of complete civil unrest/siege with no food in the stores and almost complete loss of RoL (the cops/military were sniping protestors to try to make things worse: true story). A couple of thoughts from personal experience:
* Don't underestimate the power and utility of a blunt weapon. You can usually legally carry one without attracting attention and, if you have to use it, you have a choice of lethal/non-lethal force (which you don't get with a knife or a firearm), they're quiet, and you don't get blood all over you (which doesn't bring attention to you).
* Cardio. Cardio. Cardio. I got out of more than a few bad situations because I can run fairly long distance at speed. Don't leave your house in shoes you can't run quickly in. In a WRoL or low-RoL situation, running is almost always a better option than fighting, especially since EMS may be non-existent. You can win a fight and still break a knuckle.
* You saw during COVID what people did who didn't get toilet paper. What do you think they'll do when they haven't eaten for 2 days? Desperate people are dangerous.
* Night becomes incredibly dangerous, especially when the power goes out. A completely blacked out city (and being several miles from home, as a gringo, in a foreign country) is terrifying. Do your business during the day.
* For all you young people wanting the world to burn: I was like you once too. But then I had children and I realized that there was no amount of evil that I was not willing to do to make sure my children survive, up to and including hunting, cooking, and eating you and your family. Desperate parents with children are the most dangerous people of all.
I'm glad I didn't splurge this year on guns and tactical gear. I would certainly be in debt by now. Before 2024 I planned to buy a 3k .308 rifle, a 3k ballistic shield and a 3k NVG set, instead I bought a 4k Truck spent nearly a grand to fix it up and spent the rest on gas (3.05 per gal), ammo (mostly for training), extra food, water then saved/invested the rest.
In December it has become clear to me that training, staying in shape, having more basic supplies and staying out of debt is more important than having the most decked-out *G U C C I* SCAR-17H with thermals, Nods and multicam to go with it.
I already have a basic 9mm pistol (S&W 6906) and IIIA covert body armor, a shotgun (M870 Police) and a hunting rifle (Savage .308), so I can focus on what matters; training. Once I get the basics down, and start building up some capital I can then prepare for the 1% of tactical scenarios that I may encounter in my lifetime.
Survival is the name, preparedness is the game!

Best survival item I've ever bought was a woodburner, back in 2012 when the winds of sandy made their way to Ohio a maple tree in my side yard went down and took my power line with it. Had to get electrical work done on my house before the electric company could put the power line back. The woodburner is how I heated my house, cooked food, and made coffee for that time frame.
Dogs are your best home security also, lots of great dogs are in the pound right now (sadly) but an affordable way to protect your house. And no matter who you are or what time of day it is in any neighborhood you can walk around with a dog and any would be criminals will avoid you like the plague.
I think for a 1st time gun buyer a pump shotgun is the way to go, but I get what you're saying about ccw and agree. An ar15 isn't the first thing Id recommend people get, but I know LOTS of my coworkers had my boss build them one after I showed him how to build a lower. People should also learn skills that would both help them in practical ways, and for trade. Soap, jar candles, beer, a home still, etc. Just a few ideas.

Yeah AR15s are good first guns in the sense that they're fun, and easy. It gets people pumped. Handguns 50% of the time are so hard to shoot people just give up with the self improvement.

I think an underrated "PDW" option is a reliable extended magazine or two. With a red dot, a light, and a 30 round magazine, you're at something close to 80% of a rifle IMO. A realistic CCW compromise is something like a Magpul 21 rounder. Having 2 spare 21 rounders versus 2 spare 15s gives you another 12 rounds of ammo, almost a full extra magazine's worth. 2 30s is literally double capacity. On body carry sucks for these (unless you get a shoulder rig, but that's very niche too) but there are plenty of "tactical" messenger bags out there with big velcro fields to attach magazine carriers on. I've messed with a few of them and most of them are decent bags.

Don’t ever use your own IFAK on anyone else. Only use theirs on them. That’s CLS rule #1. Other than that I think you make some really good points in my opinion. Great video!

Awesome video, I would like to point out that having a long term food/water storage is great. But be ready to walk away from it if needed. Have a contingency plan to move at a moments notice and still be able to take care of yourself and loved ones. Stuff can be replaced your life cant.
A voice of reason in a sea of preppers screeching and flexing their action movie fantasies, great stuff keep it coming. Something that might be interesting to do, to level set everyone even more, do a quick statistical breakdown of the likelihood of you being in one of these two scenarios compared to even just a normal concealed carry defensive use. We are really talking about very small likelihoods stacked on top of small likelihoods.
Part of prepping is prepared for all potential situations.

I got called up for the SLC Riots, changed my perspective on what I should have in my go-bag quite a bit: Padded clothing/hockey gear, aluminum splint, eye-rinse kit, pepper-spray, goggles and face cover (gas mask is also good, but makes you high-vis) fire extinguisher, and the all important: water and change of clean socks. Good stuff, looking forward to more on this topic

In long term SHTF, I think most of us would be better off with a good set of rain/inclimate weather gear instead of level IV plates. It would really suck to die of hypothermia wearing a sweet JPC full of Hesco 3810s. At least your corps would look cool.

I had good quality rain gear before I had guns.
A tarp and warm clothing would prevent that from happening too. This is where knowledge matters before making a decision on how to prep and what to prep for.

Pistol caliber rifles are smart to have because you can mount a red dot or scope, 30+ round magazines, hold with 2 hands, and can be concealed easier than a long rifle. You can have one under a hoodie, handgun holstered.
You forgot one of the biggest advantages of a pistol caliber carbine. The ability to run the same magazines in your carbine that your sidearm is using.

For using an AR15 for home defense, consider buying home defense rounds that break inside the intruder's body and doesnt penetrate as much. Keep your neighbors, wife, kids safe by using a responsible round. You are responsible for every round that leaves your barrel, whether it is against a home intruder or a neighbor's child

Another thing that is critical to understand is the difference between urban preparedness and rural preparedness. In a rural setting you may have to consider stocking up on animal feed, and if you have trees or a stream on your land, being able to navigate all the risks those create is essential. A family friend recently had a windstorm blow through his area, and he hadn't trimmed his trees. Part of the shade tree over his house collapsed on his roof and another tree on his driveway. He had a small chainsaw and was unable to clear his driveway. Thankfully others were able to help him. If you're renting out an apartment or a condo, you likely won't have to worry about this at all.
for sure; most of my audience is urban, or semi urban. So I probably overly focus on that

I’m guessing you’re on the western slope. I am on the eastern of the Rockies. I like that you’re in a similar environment. Familiarity is helpful when taking advice. Water will be the real commodity imo. Pretty sure we are far from the “water wars” though. Damn medical industrial complex has me in that debt category. Working everyday to change that. Garden is happening and stacks are decent. If only the ammo would allow more range time.
