I know SoT has a lot more content added to it over time, but I think the thing that remains consistent since day 1 was the absolute level of freedom you have.

Like there’s better age of sail games if freedom is what you’re looking for.

@@Skim_beeble7125 I don't know if you know this but a Beta is the feature complete stage of a game. Hell, technically the Skull and Bones open Beta isn't really a beta considering nothing majors going to change from now till next week (its release).

To the people saying "SoT was in rough shape at launch too...", think about what really matters here:
Would you as a newcomer to both games, spend $40 dollars on this as it is today, or $70 on S&B on launch?
I thought so. That's all that matters to that demographic right now.
I would have spent $60 for SoT at launch even when it was bare bones too.
The difference for me is I could see how sea of thieves could improve, the possibilities and potential for it was high. Not to mention devs stated they would listen to their community to make it better. One of the 1st updates was Meg’s and cursed ships fleet battles, followed by story centered voyages with new puzzle mechanics, and different gameplay style world events.
Skull and bones however doesn’t have any of that. I can’t come up with 1 possible update that will change up the gameplay, no puzzle, or sailing mechanic that can make the game into a good game. It’s just so limited by the genre it’s in, a naval ship warfare game that the possibilities for it are so restrictive. Sure the game has a road map, but nothing in it makes me feel like “wow! This is the pirate game I need to buy”
I’d have to disagree. While I’m not defending the terrible state SnB has come out. Comparing this game to Sea of thieves when its own launch was just as bad or worse imo isn’t fair. This game coming from Ubisoft I don’t doubt it’ll flop before it finishes it’s roadmap but I think it’s better to have reasonable complaints to the game rather than shitting on it anyway possible
@@wiseguy9718 The main difference is that even when SoT was "bad or worse" as you might've put it, the base game was still there. You being a pirate able to go from land to sea in an instant. Explore every island the game has to offer. Jump from your ship into the ocean to explore the sunken pirate ship.
Even back then SoT has more to offer than SnB.
@@buggart In terms of land exploration I do agree but outside of that no it most certainly did not have more to offer than SnB. Ill constantly state I'm not trying to claim SnB is perfect of even above mediocre. But SOT was basically a husk of a game with one world event and highly repititous voyages with little to no endgame. SnB may not have as much content as it should but its still has more than SOT did. While it is a absolute shame you cant explore on land. Many of SOTs main mechanics like chainshot, tier 5 holes, throwables, cursed cannonballs, Megs, Skelly ships etc all didnt exist day 1.
TLDR sad no land exploration yes but still more than LAUNCH of SOT

SnB however has no content whatsoever, no proper ground combat (heck even ship combat sucks ass) and feels like a cheap mobile game that lacks 3 years of development.
I also enjoy "The pirate: Caribbean hunt". It's a nice little game, faithful in the Sid Meier's style, also combining elements of trading and navigation similar to port royale. And it can even be played on mobile for a bit of in-between fun
Sid meiers 'Pirates!' sadly is to this day the best ever.... sadly cause our dear gaming-industry was not able yet to create a game with this theme, simple but deep gameplay, replayability and especially fun. 1987....
It's legit have played this when I was a child played it again at 13 years old then again recently they can never seem to match the formula and feel of Sids pirates lol and it actually had you retire at the end lol
I became a pirate legend in sea of thieves April 2021 and Its the best pirate game ever when it comes to sucess nothing is close. and with good friends its absolutely amazing. only drawback is that you need to have a well organised team and voicechat. wich dont happen with randoms. i have also been a real life sailor for 3 years in the Navy and offshore tugboat. and sea of thieves is the only game that has properly nailed wave and wind dynamics.
Is sea of thieves just grabbing chests from forts and islands and maybe some PVP?
@@arlenspecter8348 there is multiple questlines also. But the magic of Sea of thieves is how fun and realistic and deep Grabbing chests and pvp actually is. Sea of thieves is only being held back by that they wanted it to work on 2018 consoles up to this day.

People need to stop comparing SAB to SOT they are 2 COMPLETELY different kinds of games
Huh I like how everyone tends to forget how sea of thieves released, not defending skull and bones but comparing sea of thieves a game that has had constant updates the last couple years with a game that has just dropped and is only really meant to be similar to sea of thieves with pirates not with gameplay is insane to me.
That one level in sly 3 is better than all of skull and bones. like all it is was a pirate ship u got to drive and shoot the cannons and repear dmg by hitting it with your cain. u could also board ships and there was a mission where u had a tresure map where u have to actuly follow clues to find where to dig. literally all of that feels more pirate than all of skull and bones and its only a small part of a game not even about pirating.
Agreed skull and bones isn't even that bad but imo there are better alternatives.
Unfortunately its not available for PlayStation and I don't want to buy a Xbox.
But the game looks extremely nice, they should just release games for all platforms tbh.

I really love SoT and it’s my favourite game of all time but when the game first came out masterpiece as it may be it’s VERY barebones. There were only 3 mission types and endgame (pirate legend) is just the same 3 mission types again but grindier. Not to mention day one disaster.
What you showed : fire, bomb, skelly ship, Fort , harpoon and more are not present on day one
I’m not defending S&B just that Comparing S&B day one to SoT now is kinda unfair.
But the thing sea of thieves did have tho was amazing graphics and a rock solid highly advanced physics engine. And total freedom.

From a person who plays games solo, SoT isn't fun by yourself. S&B so far is much better. It's basically a need for speed style car-pg, but with ships.

I just got done with a pretty intense fight in skull and bones, it was a lot of fun. I think they are close but the game can use a few big updates. I’m optimistic but expecting the worst.
This game is alot of fun once they took pvp out. Made it alot easyer to get shit done. N not loss a whole days of missions n booty. Lol

Skull and Bones had such potential, how in the world did they mess it up??? I mean, its fun to play, and I personally dont mind being stuck to only ship to ship combat. BUT....the giant flaws in the game are like anchors that drag it down into mediocricy. Like how you have to go find your shipwreck after you respawn. And youre doing this...IN YOUR SHIP😐 Makes no sense. Or how you have to wait a minute or more between using health or food. Its just STUPID and kills the pace/ fun of the game. And to not even have a character with spoken dialogue....i mean, who wants to be Captain MUTEbeard?? And how you cant pause the game. I dont care if its online, first, i didnt ask for that. Second, every game should be pausable, so you can grab a snack without worrying about your ship being destroyed WHILE THE GAME IS PAUSED😡 So many obvious flaws that should have been addressed before they released the game.
Skull and Bones is more like Sid Meier's Pirates with multiplayer, anyone expecting black flag will be sorely mistaken.
Is it just me or does your game look really washed out? There's definitely something wrong with it, the colour of your HP is a really shitty green instead of bright
Just played the open beta of skull and bones. It sucks quite bad in a number of areas.
It’s playable, but after almost 10 years in the oven, it’s not acceptable. Especially not at 60 or 70 dollars plus taxes.
I wouldn’t touch that for more than 20 even if you like pirate games…

theyre 2 totally different types of games tho. yea theyre pirate games but one is primarily just the ship and the other is teamwork and first person adventure
Is that really an excuse at this point is my question. Because yeah. I've played a couple of games Like Naval Action, and another that's basically this but mobile. And while both games share the aspect the you are the ship and not a captain with a crew, I think most gamers complaining about this fall into a couple of categories.
1. They were big fans of AC4 black flag and wanted that but cracked out.
2. They bored of what ubisoft has to offer with it's open world games, and the live service elements that have seen Ubi's stock prices plummet from 20 USD a share, to just a little over 4 dollars.

3. They wanted ubisoft to put their spin on the Sea of Thieves formula.
Now personally I fall into a mix of the 1st and 2nd categories. The problem with Ubisoft open worlds is that as weird as it's going to say, they're not really sandboxes. Sure there's plenty of stuff to do, but IT's all on the game's terms. meanwhile something like AC4 or even SoT, could be considered sandbox as usually it's the players initiating interactions. More stuff it done on the players' terms. And if you're making a pirate game, I think more people want at least an illusion of freedom, and not constantly be hounded by notifications saying "Do these dailies for your purple tier phallus decoration for season 69"
You get to primarily be a ship that doesn't move or feel like a ship

They're completely different games. Skull and Bones was never trying to be Sea of Thieves, all you haters trying to decry the game because it doesn't fit your arbitrary conditions on what a pirate game has to be is ridiculous.
Im glad I don't have to arrange all my friends on the few hours a week we're all free just to play a little bit of Skull and Bones like I do with Sea of Thieves.
The complaints about boarding are also ridiculous and just shows me that most of you have clearly forgotten what it was actually like in Black Flag. Was it cool the first few times you did it or when you did it during during cinematic moments in the story? Yeah it was badass. during the moment to moment gameplay however it was repetitive and tedious. when you're sailing around fighting different merchant and navy vessels trying to get materials to upgrade your ship or hideout and you have to board every single ship to get the most materials you can it shatters the pacing to then have to do the same repetitive boarding fight 3-4 sometimes even 5 times in a row.
bro, black flag came out ten years ago, ubisoft could have really invested some time and money into making boarding very fun. instead they removed it entirely.
@@Dodderyfeline31 the game was always gonna be naval combat focused. How would you introduce Boarding combat into a game like this without compromising on the core concept of online open world navel combat? Because you can't have 2 ships sitting in the middle of a massive group fight invincible, that would ruin the flow/pacing of the game.

I feel they're completlly opposite, SOT i liked it at the start after few houres got bored, no real progression, if the other guy doesn't want to pvp you'll be on a 3 hour chase, SaB, 0 pvp at the start real progression I just tryed pvp enjoyed it very much
The graphics are terrible on this game so i probably wouldn't play it but it most definitely more of a pirate game than skull and bone. Skull and bone should of copied this game with skull and bone graphics.
Reason for skulls and bones being better than sea of thieves: its on PlayStation and I'll actually be able to play it.

Skull and bones is honestly a great game. Could spend an hour just talking about the water physics alone. I absolutely love sea of thieves and played it since beta but the cartoon element for me personally was what’s stopped me from it becoming my no.1.. give skull and bones a proper chance because my experience has been 10/10 and that’s for a beta
It's no where near a great game. You can't even leave the ship to explore places.
