  • In this episode, the cylinder head is finally back and ready to install. I fit the exhaust manifold as well as the throttle housings. Then I go to war with my windscreen frame. Fitting this was harder than refitting the cylinder head...

Hi Johnny, I can't tell from the video if you have the nuts on the rods under the dash on and whether your frame has the correct angle. It looks to me like it is leaning backwards too much. If you don't have the rods secured in the right place under the dash, the 3 bolts on top of the dash will only pull down the inside of the frame causing it to lean more than normal and making the outside gap to the scuttle too big. That is the only explanation I can think of of the problem that you are having. Once you have the rods inside the brackets and the brackets mounted to the side panels under the dash with I believe 3 bolts each, the frame will be more or less in the correct angle and should compress the rubber evenly everywhere. I hope that helps.

Hey Elin, good to see you chippy in to help Johnny. I follow both of you guys and your restorations.

Hi Elin. Thank you for taking the time to look into the problem. I know how busy you are with your own work and channel. I am humbled 🙏
What you have said about the brackets under the dash is going to be the answer. Now it makes perfect logical sense that the three bolts on top of the dash will cause it to pull the frame out of shape. I never knew there were bolts under the dash, so I forced the frame out to begin with. I will slacken them off today and adjust the angle of the frame then retighten.

Looking really sharp! I like the idea of painting the brake lines, with all of the crusty ones I've worked on, I can't see why this isn't the norm.

I’d weight the windscreen down with3 bags of sand (25kg each) one in the middle and one each end. Then get that blue plastic trim type tool and work it around the rubber. The weight bearing down will help keep everything in place . Best of luck, Mark

I gave up on it and fitted the screen in the end. The idea being that maybe the glass would push out the frame on the bottom a bit more but that didnt work either. I somehow thing I'll end up coming back to this

    Hello Johnny,
All looking good there... shame about the windscreen frame... maybe a viewer will have a suggestion.
    Take care.

Thanks Paul. I dont think I'm done with this frame yet, but I thought I'd leave it for now and do something else

Maybe when it gets out in the sun and heats up it might lay down a little better.Putting in the glass is a bitch be careful check out how Elin did it from Rusty Beauties. What paint did you use is it a single stage.

It crossed my mind that maybe the sun will relax it a little.
I used 2 pack paint (paint and hardener) for a tougher finish

your doing a great project their but i can see its the rubber scenario is got you mad, like you said theres days like that , but still it needs to be addressed,
do you think the rubber has had it. meaning may be the elasticity on it has gone?
great viewing tho, and its looking great.
    well done

Its a new rubber. It seems like the frame isnt compressing the rubber enough at that point. Maybe what I should do is try the frame on without the rubber to see if there are any gaps. In fact I feel like driving there now and trying that out 😆

@@treetopspider best to leave it until tomorrow something might pop in your head that makes the difference, but for sure it will be sorted
I know the feeling, it’s challenging you,
