    Best video on this subject out there. Excellent job. You made my choice of parts so much easier.

    Definitely the best video I've found to help me with my 6.0/TH350 swap. Summit sent me a crankshaft with the long flange instead of the short factory flange, so needing to do all of this checking 😂

    Just seeing this in 2024. Back in 17 I found that my stock 6.0 adapter had the interference. Ended up taking 3mm off of the converter side of the adapter itself so I could run my Coan converter and the flat flexplate and adapter.

    I ran into this exact issue with my turbo race truck. I had to turn down the face of the spacer to work with my aftermarket converter and the SFI dished flex plate. I also had to run .120 converter to flex plate spacers to set the pull out of the converter.

      So you can machine down the spacer/hub to reduce the extra clearance if necessary?

    I used the dished flywheel from the common 4.8/5.3 and spacer ring with a factory th400 converter and had to use about 3 washers on mine. I installed everything then measured distance. I get to do it again when I get my new converter. lol

    When you showed the sfi wasn't the crank spacer facing the torque converter instead of the crank side? Just asking because I watched it a few times

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      @@dennielittlesr4600 The dished SFI flexplate is sold with the same spacer as used with the flat flexplate on the crank side for use on the converter side. It doesn’t work in most cases.
      I did several more flexplate / adapter videos.
      Best way is a weld on hub extension and the dished SFI plate.

    Hey Shaun, I love your videos. I am putting an LS1 4L60E with LS1 4L60E torque converter behind my SBC. Theoretically, based on all the info you have provided to date, I think these will bolt together and work so long as I elongate the TC mounting holes on my SBC flexplate and cut 0.400" of the torque converter hub. Is this correct?

  • @FlawlessLSX
    @FlawlessLSX 8 місяців тому +1

    My truck is a 2003 5.3 with 4L80E swap and as I was looking over the work that was done I noticed they used flat washer between the flex plate and Torque Converter, with that being said what issue would arise if the 1/8 to 3/16 spacing was not correct on torque converter? I’m having issues and would appreciate your advice

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  8 місяців тому +1

      The converter needs to be pulled out of the transmission pump 1/8”- 3/16” from fully seated.
      Without that pump damage will occur, loss of pressure and then destroy the rest of the transmission.

    Shawn good afternoon! I feel your rabbit 🐇 hole, have you ever work with TCI MACHINED flex plate 399754? My plate on the LQ4-4l85e the crank spacer is built into the plate, do you know where does that spacer goes on the TCI application? I'm guessing on crank hub! Nobody gives instructions and knows it not a bolt and go! Thanks for any help!

    So on the sfi dished flexplate you don't need an adapter all you need is the 6 hole spacer

  • @bobbydog65
    @bobbydog65 2 роки тому +1

    so what your saying is. if i use the OEM 4l80 flex plate with a turbo 400, i need to shim between the torque converter and flex plate 1/8-3/16ths of an inch or is he spacing for the torque converter to trans in the bell housing?

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  2 роки тому

      With that setup as long as you pull the converter out of the pump .125 min. to .1875 Max. You are good.
      If you have to shim to fill the remaining gap so be it.

    So i'm in the process of swapping a 4.8 and a adapting it to a 700r4. I have the flat 4L80e plate (legacy). The motor came out of a GMC 2500 box van so it makes sense that it had the big trans. I hadn't got to slotting holes but did install an ICT billet spacer. If I'm understanding you correctly, I don't need the spacer and do not need to elongate the holes to fit the older trans?

      On the flat flexplate yes. You can run the same spacer on the converter side on the dished flexplate.

      Doing similar change and here what I have found so far. The 1999-2000 Lq4 6.0s with the iron heads, have a thicker flanged crank on the rear so no spacer on the end of the crank. When they went to the aluminum heads Lq4 (2003?), they used same flex plate, thinner rear crank flange, so has the spacer on the crank. Supposed to be factory. I have yet to verify until I get my iron head 6.0 out. Please check this info before you do anything lol.
