I cloth diapered six children and many had sensitive skin so I loved using hemp prefolds and wool covers....if you can't afford to buy wool covers, you can crochet them and lanolize them for waterproofing. You can also make wool covers out of thrifted wool sweaters! Some babies do best with all natural fabrics :)

Despite having 20 months of cloth-nappy experience with my son, I was SO HAPPY to see this video now we're trying to use cloth on our 4 week old. Doesn't seem to matter how slight we make the adjustments - The nappies either leave red marks on her, or leave gaps that the pee just comes straight out of. 😔 We only manage to fit her in our HappyFlute premie covers too - Nothing else fits her even on the smallest settings. (She's 4 weeks old, 9lbs and very thin/long). I was somewhat relived to get confirmation I'm doing it all correctly (Think I should let my partner watch this refresher though...). I think she's just another very awkward sized baby. 😅 Thanks for the great video as usual! Hope you're well
We had a very similar situation with Willow. When she was a newborn a lot of things gave her red marks on the legs. It’s one of the reasons I came to really enjoy Thirsties Covers.
Willow was really awkwardly shaped as a small baby so diapers looked really weird and fit strangely on her for awhile. There’s so many factors to the fit of cloth diapers lol. Hopefully the fit era better as she gets older
Your videos are amazing. I've been cloth diapering for 2 years now, and I still learn a little trick or tidbit that I hadn't thought of before on almost all of your videos (eg doing that leg swoop to make sure the elastic is in the exact right spot). Thank you so much!

I love double gussets. My baby has tiny little legs and I feel like I can get a good fit easier with them. Can't wait to see the video on rolled elastics because I haven't tried any diapers with them mostly because I'm not sure how they work 😂
I actually really like rolled leg elastics! they can be really gentle. I also see why some people don’t like rolled leg elastics. I’ll touch on that as well

I will say this, it’s definitely not a necessary step. I found it to be helpful for my girls though. They have wider thighs and easily get red marks. So releasing the tension has helped us immensely, but it’s not a requirement when getting a good fit if you’re not having issues. It’s just a quick way for me to check the elastics while putting the diaper in the bikini line at the same time lol

Thanks for the video! I miss having a baby who would lay still and let me get a good fit :( For the last six months it's been like wrestling an alligator, we just throw on a diaper and hope for the best. Thankfully we rarely have leaks (but we also rarely get a "pretty" fitting diaper)

Can you please do a video on the difference between a stretchy flat and a regular?? I've never heard of stretchy flats until I started watching you I'm still pretty new at cloth diapering but you have me so curious about them
I’ve talked about stretchy flats a lot in a few past videos because they’re my favorite! They’re just a stretchy material, that’s it 😁
Regular flats are a single layer of fabric.
A stretchy flats is a single layer of fabric that’s stretchy. Some stretch 2ways. Some stretch all ways.
I even have a video about DIY stretchy flats!
I used to have a video about a stretchy flat review explaining stretchy flats. I might have taken it down since the shop closed. People kept commenting wanting to buy her flats but her shop is closed so I think I took it down.

I feel like I’m putting my babies on too tight. She cries and cries when she’s in cloth. But she has the two finger gaps but when she sits up it’s like it’s too tight.

Why was it so hard to find out that the snaps don't have to be symmetrical? 😭 I have been trying to fix the fit since we started cloth and couldn't figure it out. If I adjust one area and get it sorted somewhere else is wrong. I was ready to be done. No one bothered to dumb it down enough to say the snaps don't have to be even. I can't decide if I feel stupid or relieved after this. 🤣 Thank you!

My son has red marks he is the size of an 18 month old and unfortunately buget wont allow for the fitted diapers he would need. He is a chunk and is 28 pounds 31 to 32 inches tall. Big boy. The red marks were deep on his legs in a one size. But we are using at home compostables diapers for now and wipes. So our diapers wont make it to the landfill. :) plus they dont break him out!!!
Daphnie Tudor our son is the same size OS diapers don't fit your baby anymore ? alot of our baby's weight is in his height and alot of his diapers ride so low on him but do still fit on his waist if he keeps growing like this idk for how long

It’s not abnormal to get poop on the elastic, but it can be annoying lol

Hi Jay , I could really use your help. I am going on three weeks with cloth diapering my 4.5mo old girl. she’s weighing 17lbs and has super chunky legs , we use Nora Nursery pocket diapers and struggle every day with intense red marks around her bum and inner thighs . It feels like any rise setting I try digs into her skin and it’s so discouraging. Do you have any suggestions?
Sounds like the diaper is too tight. Try staggering the snaps around the thighs.

I did back in 2015. They have redesigned it a little. It’s roomier now. I have an old old review on it actually. I’m not sure how relevant it is though since it’s a little different now
What about babies with very chubby thighs?
I am finally going to start using cloth diapers on my one month old! I am using mama koalas, but when I took diaper off baby was soaked with sweat! (Didnt smell like pee) and he was super crabby. Is this a common problem? Help!
Definitely normal. All of the babies that I’ve had in the spring and summer were all super sweaty. Even the ones I didn’t cloth diaper.
Willow was born in June 2018 and she sweat so badly for a few months. As babies learn how to regulate their bodies during the summer definitely expect a bit of sweat.
also keep in mind that microfiber can cause compression leaks. So keep an eye out for that as well. I get super suspicious of microfiber lol
My daughter has some angry red marks on the back of her thigh/bum. I noticed this happening with a sigzagor cover with double gussets off of amazon. Is there a way to trouble shoot that? She’s 3 months with super chunky thighs.
Is the diaper in the bikini line?
Are you putting both double leg elastics against the skin?
Do you release the tension of the elastics once the diaper is on?
Have you tried staggering the leg snaps?
Is this the only diaper she gets red marks in?
Jay's Nest I haven’t tried the releasing the elastics. I didn’t know you were supposed to until this video. 🙈 I will give that a try.
I would say that step isn’t necessary but it has helped us out so much. My girls all have chunky legs.
Sometimes babies are sensitive to some elastics and not others. Like Scarlett gets a red mark every time she’s in a happy Flute Cover. I’m not sure why she does but it happens almost every time.
The exact same thing happens with a double gusset Alva cover that we have. It's beautiful but we don't reach for it because of the marks it leaves :(
Thankyou so much! I only get double gussets! I feel like the 100% prevent more leakage than ones without, (that's just from my experience with a heavy wetter) how often are you changing cloth diapers? And what do you do overnight? I've had to use disposables at night as my girl sleeps all the way through without waking, otherwise shed be soaked?
It’s pretty common to change every 2-3 hours. For nighttime I use flats. It’s my favorite way to diaper at night. Right now we use DIY stretchy flats for nighttime with a hemp or bamboo insert
