I found out it was the rule when Calvin Johnson caught it in the end zone then he had the ball in one hand and didn’t maintain control of the ball through the ground therefore the refs had to call it an incomplete pass!
A Reddit post really summed it up well. They said the last remaining questions are if a receiver should be required to take the ball home before it is considered a catch and if the visiting team must return to their home before setting the ball down or if the hotel is acceptable.
I’m actually surprised the Minneapolis Miracle wasn’t on here bc that was a tackle away from the Saints moving on. Biggest “blew it” moments in my opinion.
I will never forget that Calvin Johnson TD that we got cheated out of. Vegas really wanted the Bear's to win that game. The Steelers going offsides 3 times is honestly not a bad strategy and kind of a loop hole in the rules. There's no time, and the field goal will most likely be good if its not blocked. You have, essentially, infinite times to try to time the snap perfectly every time to get a block so long as he doesnt get the kick off successfully. Only risk is bringing them so close to the goalline that they attempt a touchdown, which is easier to stop than a field goal.
Yeh, your right. In rugby, the referee has the power to award a penalty try (the equivalent of a TD) if the defending side is just repeatedly going offside or committing other technical offenses to prevent a score. So maybe a penalty point should be awarded after the third offside at a kick.
that's not correct they have the same rules in NFL that @Horror Tackle Harry said about rugby the refs can award the score if you keep committing penalties
this is completely false - I have no idea why it has this many likes. It's the last play of the game and the score is tied, therefore making a field goal just as good as a touchdown. AND, you fail to realize that you can decline penalties... all the kicker has to do is make ONE of the field goals when the opposition commits an offside penalty and boom - the game is over. Going offsides is terrible because the likelihood of a kicker missing a field goal is much higher than the likelihood of going offsides, blocking/affecting the kick, AND the refs not throwing a flag. Essentially, the best case scenario for going offsides is that the kicker, who missed the field goal, now gets another chance
I wish they included Rome crying after that fumble that was amazing I was in the National Guard and almost missed the whole game but watching him fail and cry made it all worth it.
Literally anyone on the kicking side calling a timeout before a kick attempt could be said to have "iced" his own kicker. What if it's an illegal formation? What if a blocker is missing? What if there is concern about a delay of game? Considering that there is no evidence that timeouts "ice" kickers anyway, I'd say it's more important to feel that the setup is right than to worry about the timeout icing. And if anyone is to blame, it's the special teams coach for being the one to tell the head coach to make the call. But hey, pick your narrative I guess...
The Todd Gurley TD accident loss is 100% on the falcons defense that year. They let the lions drive down the whole field and score a td in 60 seconds. That was not Todd Gurley’s fault at all.
Well spoken. Just because one player's mistake was at the end of the game doesn't mean the other players were perfect or that the loss was just their fault
The Calvin Johnson catch (5:37) was a completed catch. Both feet land in the end zone. His butt even lands on the ground as he holds the ball with one hand. That's an automatic touchdown. He can hold the ball with one hand. He's already crossed the plane. Bad call by the refs.
It was actually a good call by the refs....... It's a bad rule, but the rule says you have to keep control through the ground...... not until you have both feet, or your butt in the end zone like you are suggesting. You might not like the rule...... I don't think anyone does, but it was a good call by the refs. The refs don't make the rules, they just enforce them.
Great video, but you cannot forget Dee Ford's offside penalty in the 2018 AFC championship game to negate the interception. This kept the Chiefs from going to the Superbowl.
That was an incredibly clever play by the Bucs that almost worked. Yeah, maybe a few too many moving parts but it was an interesting way of throwing a curveball at the defense guarding the goal line.
Dexter Lawrence had a perfect jump on the ball. He literally moved when the ball moved, that’s perfect timing. If they would have showed a camera angle from the line of scrimmage, that call would have been reversed and they would have won.
Really isn't blowing it tho... Because what is the down side to trying to time a field goal that wins it for the other team? Plus the first one was later found to be not offsides.... So who blew it really lol.
The screwup was in not handing the ball to the ref directly. They had the time for the play they called, they just made one (killer) screwup after the tackle that slowed the ref. Considering that they still needed to throw a fairly long TD with one play remaining, it wasn't much of an epic "screwup", which is really reserved for plays that would tie or win games.

You should do a college version and add the win my CSU Rams just got that they got lucky for. Should've been going to OT after a missed FG attempt, but the defense hit our kicker giving us a non timed play in which we kicked the winning FG
I think that one from Gurley is more a great play by the DB than a mistake by Gurley. The defender grabs and holds long enough to force Gurley to start chugging to drag him and then the guy lets go and all that built up energy throws him forward into the endzone
