The Fextralife reviewer for this game said that it took 20 hours for him to become fully invested (hooked) into the game. A 20 hour slow burn is something that I am most definitely not interested in. Hard pass until it comes down to half price.
@@seriustraco bad optimization doesn't make it a bad game. A good game in a bad state on release is not a rare occasion. I will wait for patches, but still be happy this game is being released. Games like DD2 come out very rarely these days.
i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it.
I think that's a good thing. It means it's actually doing something specific rather than trying to appeal to everyone (Ubisoft games) while not really satisfying anyone.
That's fine, not every game should flatten itself out to be all things to all people. Capcom made a sequel primarily for people who played the first one and asked for more...for ten years.
Frame rate is fine for me on PC. The fact is that people are demanding photoreal graphics but don’t want to pay for the processing power which makes that possible. It’s a shame Sony and Microsoft under-engineered the GPUs on their ‘current-gen’ consoles to hit a lower price point (or maybe it’s a shame people think they should be getting 4090-level graphics performance out of a $400 console?). It’s also a shame Capcom used Denovo DRM on this game because the performance would be better on older hardware without it.
So why no mention, at all, of the RMT shop? There's no way this wasn't known before hand, as another review has clearly stated that it was in the press information.
It was known beforehand. Jez Corden reviewed the game for WindowsCentral and said it was included in the review guidelines. Probably a nice bonus from Capcom for not mentioning it. This is the state of game reviews after Totalbiscuit passed away. Zero integrity grifters that take pay for praise while lying to their audience. It’s gross.
Dragon's Dogma was one of my favorite "Oh this looks cool," pickups in the ps3 era. I am beyond psyched that this one is being so well received and that it's blowing up. I feel like the original was criminally overlooked. Pumped to start playing it tonight. Great review as always, and those character portraits in the corner had me cracking up.
I hope ACG that you will make at least a short video about Capcom bullshit that they'e added microtransactions on release(fast travel, one-time only character editor during the game, higher lvl pawns so essentially easy mode).
This review got me to buy the game, and the microtransactions and the fee for everything got me to refund it and give a negative review and question if Cuntcom (Capcom) gave reviewers a microtransaction and fee free copy of the game.
@@jelledesmet7086 So creating a system that enables those kind od practices is ok by you? Guess gamers are really stupid and like to be slowly but surely f****d.
Tbh I kinda feel for yt reviewers since Capcom decided to add a list of MtX after reviews came out. But even so, it also kinda makes me trust the reviews a bit less. So glad I held off on buying, as performance and MtX mean this is an easy do not buy. Major reason the first game is a cult classic, is that most people bought it for less than $10.
so now that the game is out, what do we think about microtransactions in a single player game? and not just for cosmetics, also to just respec/redo your character
Non issue, the items that allow you to do that are available as soon as you enter the first town. They’re also cheap to buy so it isn’t even prohibitive.
You redo your character by spending 500 gold at the first town. Also why are people throwing such a big fit when all Capcom games even to this day have MTX shops just as predatory.
Several years ago your review of the original Dragon's Dogma made me buy and dive into that amazing world, now I'm back here, hyped for the sequel and hungry for interesting points of view that go deep into the mechanics.
Developers: "We've built an amazing game, just needs another 2-4 months for us to iron out the performance issues and it will be a hit." Capcom Management: "Good job but it's the end of the quarter and we want to make sure we (not you the developers, we the execs/management) get our unearned bonuses. Ship it and slap a s***ton of microtransactions that will turn the entirety of the non-brainwashed playerbase against us and the game." AAA Industry: "Ahhhh, the system works"
So glad to see the night cycle is even more intensified. It was the first (and still only?) time where an action rpg turned into an survival game. You literally had to time your adventure schedule, making sure you make it back to civilization before nightfall.
@ghostsballz it zombie survival action rpg technically cos it does have gear and crafting plus open world, different type of game tho but does put a huge emphasis on night being more dangerous
Not even mentioning denuvo or microtransactions ? Man I started watching your videos cuz you were free to express your opinion in an unbiased manner but it seams to me that you're just now part of the system like many others.
You realize this video came out before launch. The mtx weren't knotted about by anyone yet. Denuvo, i dunno, wasn't new. They posted it on steam a while ago.

I mean there were technically MTX in previous Capcom games like DMC5 and RE4 Remake. Those “DLCs” shouldn’t exist in the first place either, but at least they could easily be earned through normal gameplay and wasn’t so badly pushed, which imo is why most people didn’t care about them. While in DD2 they took steps way TOO far that made the freaking game mechanics into micro transactions (character customization and fast travels), which seem let people finally realized their terrible monetizations.
The mtx in DD2 are as ‘offensive’ as all the ones present in the recent resident evil games since 7 and all the recent monster hunter games and the last devil may cry game, they’re not a big deal

Out of curiosity, what was your gripe with Praey? I had that one on my steam wishlist for a while and never picked it up, but it looked like a cool SotC-like from the trailers.
Exactly the super engaging day/night cycle! The nights were truly magical and treacherous. Far Cry Primal was somewhat close to that feeling, in the early parts. Details like this that make games really stand out and memorable.
The game seems very similar to the first game. The first game was very interesting with this sense of a grand scale adventure and fantasy settings. But the combat and movement was way too janky. I was hoping part 2 would fix those issues. But from watching gameplay videos and reading comments it doesn't look like it. I may wait for a sale and pick it up.
Just looked at the review by Forbes. Evidently, the egregious microtransactions were detailed in the material that came with the review copy from Capcom. Why weren't they mentioned in this review? Seems like an important thing to be conspicuously absent.
I’ve noticed that. People that played review versions of the game don’t bring it up the issues I’ve heard at all. Even the ones I know 100% would speak on it. Makes me wonder why?
Hey man, great review. You mentioned fps drops on your 4090 but didn't give any specifics. Are we talking occasional sub-60 drops, or much worse, like going into the 30's and 40's? I've got a 4080 and don't mind if the drops are in the 50's and consistent, but any worse than that and I might think twice about picking it up until it's improved

Yeah, it's the downfall of pumping out reviews at a corporate rate. Few people actually play games like that. Like, I may be an oddity, but most major games take me months to complete. Witcher 3, RDR2, GTA V, RE2&3, God of War etc. all took me nearly a year to beat. Few hours here, few hours there. I do like Angry Joe's reviews for that reason, he plays them over a few weeks at his own pace. Much more like how most people actually play games. Not plowing through in 2 - 12 hour sit downs or whatever, haha.
I agree, but I also don’t mind watching these videos knowing what I know now and seeing what people think on elements that aren’t MTX or performance issues. I take UA-cam reviews with a grain of salt anyhow, they’re just as susceptible to corporate trickery (adding mtx after initial reviews, etc.) as any other when it’s pumped out this quick. I appreciate the more nuanced, longer deep dives where time is taken to analyze…well, any piece of media in much greater detail. I forget who made it, but there’s this really long (hours long) Oblivion review I really like, and has made me understand that game on a deeper level ❤️
Stupid question, but as someone new to the series: are certain clothing options liked to vocations? Idk if y'all just always decide to suit up a certain way or if its only certain classes can wear certain things, but if I wanted to be a fighter wearing a mages robe could I? Or must I wear the big bulky armor and vice versa?
The first one limited the armor you could wear to your chosen vocation but getting a hybrid vocation would give you more options and there were also gender locked armor sets. That being said, that was the first and I don't know if it's the same deal in this one.

I think mtx being targeted at people with less time on their hands is pretty insidious 😬 why should games be designed to take advantage of those who need more accessibility in their games? “Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.” Isn’t very helpful either.
@@loremir1994Would you prefer the game was just easy, so that busy/casual players wouldn’t have any problem getting into it? Personally i think the way this game is balanced to be deeper and more difficult than Western RPGs is an important part of its DNA. This game, but made easier for casual players, would no longer be this game. So what’s the solution for allowing casual players to play? If you included the extras for free with the game, everyone would just use them, and the game is no longer balanced as intended. MTX are not the intended way this game is to be played. And that’s as it should be.
@@loremir1994it dosnt take advantage, all the DLC is insanely easy to obtain in game. For instance the “fast travel” dlc. There are 10 in game fast travel points you have to put down yourself, and you can only put down 10 even if you buy extra from the dlc. Steam reviews placed it at a 2/20 in the morning and it's now a 4/10. Man did Capcom do a lot of shady stuff with this game that isn't covered in the review.
they sneaked in these microtransactions right after launch. Reviewers who played before launch where left in the dark as well and caught of guard like the rest of us. Capcom is scummy and wanted reviews out first.
A couple of questions you didn't answer or maybe I just missed them: Is the leveling up system the same as the first game? As in stat gains are tied to which vocation you're currently using or is it similar to something like Final Fantasy XIV where whenever you switch classes (vocations) you're stats are optimally adjusted to said class? And secondly, is there enemy level scaling in this game? Great review as always, Karak.
Based on other reviews, stat allocation has nothing to do with your class anymore. It will adjust to whatever class you're running and most of your stats come from equipment.

Instead of using tech to make a better game we use tech to hide it’s flaws and silence any criticisms until we meet our sales expectation on paid reviews and spam bots. What a joke.
Is there a reason the microtransactions were never mentioned? The community seems to be up in arms about them as they include a charge just to change your characters appearance or a charge to be able to revive your characters... were they not put in the preview copies given? Not saying this to be hostile, just genuinely curious when so many reviews on this are positive but player reviews are much more angry at the developers practises.
Yes because the review Copy probably had no DRM and MTX in it. Then Bait and Switch at Launch hence the Negative reviews on Steam right now and the Refunds i am on the edge of refunding myself and buy a Pirated Copy for zero dollars.
The only microtransaction that really is an issue is paying $2 to change your characters appearance. And them preventing you from deleting your character or having more than one character. Strange how you could make several characters in the character creator they released before the game. What was the point in that if you can only have one character.

@ACG, after putting 5 hours into the game and seeing how underwhelming that experience was, I'm a little ashamed I trusted you to provide an honest review of a game that had not been released yet. Game runs 2k 60fps with RT for me, drops to 30 in the capital which is a bit of a bummer but isn’t to much of a bother

It’s gross.

While in DD2 they took steps way TOO far that made the freaking game mechanics into micro transactions (character customization and fast travels), which seem let people finally realized their terrible monetizations.

This is why Angry Joe started buying his copies when the game launches for everyone and drops the reviews later.

@@Vell1981except the editor for WindowsCentral already came out admitting the DLC plans were transparent in the review guidelines.
@@atnfn you can change your appearance with a cheap in game item found in in game stores.
At this point the only channel we can trust is Worth A Buy.
Mack is great.
Would you recommend this game as my first RPG? I have never been interested in the genre, but this game attracts me a lot, and the only doubt that arises is its accessibility for new players in this type of game.

I have hundreds of hours in the first DD. The Dark Arisen was also a blast to play. I will pay full price day one launch - and that's something I RARELY IF EVER do anymore. If you've never played DD before, and you like D&D style games, this is one of the best.
