Thx wild I just been painting 6 months, I don't know how to share a photo here, but I did have a good breakthrough last week on the mountain, most of it with your help. Thank you
You explain so well !!!! Why didn’t I see this one before. I stuffed 2 already. Covered them in white to start again. You are brilliant !!!! Thank you so so very much
Thanks for the tip of shop towels to wipe off excess paint! I was using the palette knife to do so. I’ve offered up my paintings for donation to folks to brighten their mood during COVID and using your tips has increased requests for paintings!
DUDE that is awesome - Such a bad ass spirt you have. I will be sure to keep making awesome videos so the peeps you are helping can start off on the right foot :)
Thanks buddy - Glad it can help! If you are just starting out - I have a great video with a lot of tips that show the best way to get started with wet on wet painting. Give it a peek. ua-cam.com/video/AnGE7AYu9RY/v-deo.html
@@WildCreates I’m glad I finally found someone that explains all the things we don’t see or understand! I painted a lot when I was younger and recently picked it up again. It wasn’t long before I was reminded how frustrated I got trying to follow along with Bob Ross. Your videos, (I’ve only seen around 4, so far) have already raised my wet on wet game, especially MOUNTAINS! Now I know why my mountains suck and how to avoid the suckdom!
100% understandable - I was in the same camp.... couldn't keep up with Bob or didn't get why things worked for him and not me. I kinda use that to my advantage in my videos, since I have made EVERY mistake like 100x. I have had plenty of time to learn from them and experiment. I try my best to share what I learned so you can skip all the BS and get better results sooner.
Ive been painting for about 3 weeks now with the wet on wet technique. I just discovered your channel last week. You have helped me break through so many painting barriers. Thank you !
Thanks for the chuckles, and the tips. I can't seem to get my paint to break. I have used towel method, scraping, waiting all night and come back in the morning so nice and tacky paint, the blob of white sat out too so it is thick/firm. What I haven't tried was double/trip amount on the knife. I'll try that next time, I've already frosted my mountain this morn. Yea, frosted, like a cake 😒 One little piece at a time, because I do run outta paint frequently when trying to apply the snow breaks/shadows. Anywhooo, I'm gonna add some crappy trees and then start another one. I don't think I'm at 100 attempts yet.
OK So ... I think I know what you are doing wrong since you eliminated everything else. You are coming in too flat of an angle with the knife. This espouses all the paint at the start and when you pull you get that big blob. Go more straight, then when you pull start flatting the knife. You can also try this little hack: ua-cam.com/users/shortsNuab4KRa3RE?feature=share
@@WildCreates you know, that makes sense lol. I did see your short on slicing, I haven't tried that yet. I've been busy moving my painting station to the office room that has a baby gate on the door, so my doggos can't eat my paint anymore. They just kept sneaking over there and eating it up when I wasn't looking. I didn't realize I had collected so much paint stuff! Almost looks like I'm a 'real' painter or something. 🤣
+++++++Excellent explanation on all your videos.Congratulations for the clarifications.I had exactly such problems when painting wet on wet.I changed a lot of colors from cheap to expensive which I could get.None were thick enough and everything stuck out to me.Since I'm in Europe, I can't find Ross colors anywhere ordering from America is time-consuming and difficult. Now I will remove the oil as shown in the video.
Just did my first wet on wet, trying to do the Grandeur of Summer from the Bob Ross special episode. I really wish i had seen your tips on the shop towels, and using the palette knife. My mountains would have looked so much better. Thanks for the awesome videos and explanations that you have put out. It's much more encouraging.
Ha ha ha - well the good news is you found me now. If you are just starting out with wet on wet painting, I have a few videos I would recommend you watch that. The shop towel trick! Someone told me that for adding highlights on trees when your dark color is to thin, just gently lay the shop towel on the canvas and let it soak up the extra oil come back add the highlights.
I have seen some people do it with land for when they wanna add more layers on top or details.... But I have never seen it with trees 😱 I will have to experiment and try that - Thanks for sharing buddy 💪
I will try using the shop towels. I also went with Winsor and Newton Titanium white because I remember you said that was dryer then Bob Ross's. I gave up with snow breaks with my knife because I am so terrible at it. Started using my fan brush to put snow on the mountains. But I'll try these tips and see if it helps with my knife. I'm not to hopeful, Lol.
Bob makes photo realistic mountains look so easy to paint and yet they are the bane of my painting existence. I also have problems with the shapes of trees and bushes. Also, that’s a nice shirt. I could see myself wearing it. Where did you get it?
Yeah but that's because he has years of practice ha ha ha - It will come to you in time.... trust me! Maybe I will make a video on tree and bush shapes for ya in the future... Its an older shirt but I think I got it at Kohls :)
@@WildCreates That would be solid. I’m getting better at trees through practice and repetition but my bushes tend to look either very uniform or very messy. I have no idea how Bob achieves that nice lacey effect. I have been practicing using a natural sponge lately and I’ve been getting better results than with brushes.
Thx for another good video. My paint breaks for adding snow, still needs a lot of improvement. I have literally put my first through a canvas out of frustration. Hopefully this helps😁
Really try the cardboard paint trick and the towel wipe off trick - I think you will be amazed at how much it will help you with mountains going forward til you build your skills up :)

Hello there ! A little help, please. When I use the pallet knife for painting the mountains, the paint below is erased up to the canvas. It's very frustrating. Can you explain to me why is that happening ? Thank you very much.
What do you mean by "Erased Up?" Are you talking about getting your paint to stick on? If so check out this video below: ua-cam.com/video/I5v4bSUzFBI/v-deo.html
Spade Knifes can work in a pinch but are way harder to use for certain things like mountains and water lines due to its angle and shape. If you wanna have an easier time and paint more like bob, then I would get a palette knife like I mention in the video. Links are in the video description below.

Hi. Im new to this and ive been wanting to try out oil painting but im scared to catch on fire lol.. I dont want to use any solvents nor lineseed oil and would just try washing brushes with soap and water.. My concern is how to dispose of oil paint wipes on a paper towel? Love the videos.. Helps a lot!!
I get this a lot and I should make a video about the fears of oil painting someday to address the linseed issue BUT until then I would recommend Water-Soluble Oil paints and Mediums (again I will make a video on this). As for disposing of wipes and towels that come into contact with oil paint.... you can throw them away the day after you have painted. This will allow the oil to dry up some and the oil to harden. I hope that helps
