I have the newest version of this like you. It works pretty good, but does have some disadvantages. First, you have to have a good cellular signal for this to work. In my garage it does not. I have to wait until I drive away from my house for it to connect. Second, the device will attempt to stay connected to your phone at all times. When I am in the house, it will continuously attempt to connect to CarPlay and I will lose my home Wi-Fi connection to my phone. As a result, I have to disconnect the device from my phone’s Wi-Fi signal and unplug it from my usb port in the Tesla. It is not a big deal, but definitely not as seamless as implied. Since Tesla has Apple Music, I only use this device when I need Waze or want to listen to Apple Music. I had the Hansshow 9” display before, but returned it because of the same Wi-Fi connection issues at home. You could not disconnect the device, so it always caused issues. I prefer this device, but it is not perfect.

Another great video. Do you have any recommendations On how to handle video recordings. I just bought a new model Y haven’t received it yet but I am wondering if I need to get some better storage for a video recording. Thanks keep up the great work.
I never actually upgrade the hard drive for camera recording. I think the memory should be enough for a few days for stock memory drive that came with the car that’s why I didn’t upgrade. You just need to make sure enabled all the recording functions in the setting when you first receive your car.

Hi, thanks for the video. Do you have to have the phone hotspot on all the time to use it after installing it?
I had the hot spot on but not sure if it uses hot spot all the time.
I basically leave my phone on wireless charger in case it uses too much batter with this device.

If you part your car and left it over night. You will have to make sure wifi in the car is connected to the device and you should be able to use it right away.

I think if you keep the phone in the charger then it won’t drain your battery that much.
As for licensed music in the video, I think you can only have them on video for no more than 10-15 sec then you are okay. That’s why I tried to stop and change the song right away.😬

unlike the T2C unit that is still a bit buggy and will disconnect randomly and occasionally refuses to connect at all, the Ownice connects and stays connected >98% of the time. Only downside is screen refresh rate is a little slower than T2C due to higher image quality (therefore has to stream more data). I wish Ownice gave us a little more control over this tradeoff.
The Carlinkit device is fine I suppose. For my money the Ownice T3 is a much better deal. I've done the comparison and couldn't be happier with the T3.

I regularly drive a ton of miles with multiple stops during the day so I rely on Tesla Navigation to do the math and routing for Supercharging. I am most curious about how the Tesla Apps work in the background while CarPlay is running. I would love to see you switch in and out of CarPlay while you are driving. If Tesla Navigation works in the background, and you are using Waze in CarPlay, do you hear audio directions from both? I pay for Premium Connectivity on my Model Y. Will that still work and be recognized while this device is connected?
I miss CarPlay from my previous vehicle but if switching in and out of CarPlay while I'm driving is going to require connecting and disconnecting from hotspot or jumping through some other hoops...just not sure yet.

I own the same device and it works very well. One slight issue is sometimes I have to unplug the box and plug it back in to power cycle. Then it will reconnect to my tesla screen

Method 1: iPhone connects to T2C WiFi
1. Power up the T2C
2.Wait for 40 seconds, the device will turn on the WIFI network（AutoKit_xxxx)
3.iPhone connect devices WIFI(AutoKit_xxx) Default Password (88888888)
The mobile phone accesses the Internet, the mobile phone pops up a reminder, choose to “use the cellular network”
4.Open the mobile browser and visit 192.168.3.1
5.Scroll down to the footer, if there is an update, it will appear here，and chick "Update
Can you re-upload this video without the cuts in the video? It's hard to gauge responsiveness when you're cutting the footage together.
I will try to shorts for it. But I won’t be able to re-upload the video. I had to cut some part not because of delay but because of the total length of the video being too long.

Can you help clarify something? The link you posted to the product says it requires a SIM card, but your unit does not. Can you help clarify? Thanks again for posting this!
I asked the supplier the same question and he said don’t need SIM card.
When received and tested as you see in the video it didn’t need SIM card.
Whatever you saw in the video that was my first attempt to use this device.
Can you play videos from like UA-cam, Netflix, Disney+, etc or mirror your phone screen to do so?
No, you can’t mirror your phone on the main screen. You can only connect CarPlay to main display.

I think for the money and functionality. I would go for 9” new OTA function and CarPlay. Not too big and not too small with all the functions you need. Also good price. I’ll be releasing the review of this display soon.

That's a great review video! Which version of T2C should I buy based on the tutorial you showed? The "FOR PHONE HOTSPOT NETWORKS ONLY" or For "FOR JAPAN & NORTH AMERICA", I lived in the US. Thanks!
I asked Carlinkit the same question. They said for Japan & North America version has better signal strength it I never tested. This what they told me.

Hello: can you do a demo of Ownice T3? This product is similar to the Carlink but can also "cast" from the iPhone. The Carlink does not have this feature. There are very few people talking about this product. In my opinion, it may be better than the Carlink. I am trying to get an unit; hesitating because the product description is not compatible with Tesla with NVDA chipset???!!
This Carlinkit works fine with my 2023 Model Y. I will look into Ownice T3 when I get chance.

If I use this for navigation over Tesla's map, won't I lose the benefit of real time tracking/estimation on range left?
I believe those info will still be tracked by the car's GPS and somehow while the car is connected to the device I was still able to use other functions in the car that needs internet connection like streaming music.

Using carplay or android auto probably means that the battery won't precondition when going to a charger, correct?
You will have to use Tesla native navigation to route to Supercharger in order for your car to precondition.

It also works with Andorid Auto, but the Autokit is also connected to the phone call, so the Tesla hands-free system does not work! Where could it be set? Everything is great with my wife's iPhone!

The one in the video was for Japan & North America version (with sim card port and support with sim card free mode) However if you are not planning to use sim card at all then I think you could go with new option for hotspot networks only (regardless of region)

What phone are you running? I'm on a iPhone 14 Pro w/ public beta 16.6 and all I get is a blank black screen when I go to the web page
I have iPhone 11 Pro. I didn’t have the same issue on my device.
You can try to update the car link kit device by going to their website and on the product page should have the instructions how to update the device.

You should actually look into the original item, that is a chinese knockoff of the Tesla Android project lacking a lot of security and enhancements and implements lots of shortcuts the original developer never approved. It's slow, requires a SIM card (the Tesla Android project does not) and has mani disadvantages.

I used this device for 2 months, at the beginning it require a sim card, but now supports sim-card free mode. also when update firmware that has MUCH faster screen update/smoothness (like 3-5 times faster maybe)

can you show what happens to all the tesla build in apps when you are connected to this device's wifi, i would think they loose their internet connection, unless... the car is connected to the wifi of the Carlink and the Carlink is connected to the hotspot of the iphone.
When I was using the Carplay with the car connected to Carlinkit device I was still able to streamed the music from the car's app.

How do you open the Tesla Browser while driving? On mine the browser changes automatically to navigation when selecting drive. Browser icon is no longer available during drive and using the voice command to open a browser doesn't work when driving.

@@dadstoyscars No I haven't bought the device just yet. There is a warning saying if the browser can't be opened during driving then it can't be used. Does Tesla have different logic in a different country? I am in Australia.
@@EvanPutranto that’s interesting. I’m not sure. They might change the usage of each function in the car according to the law in each country.

The device will be off when the car is off. Because it takes power from USB-C outlet.

No. Tesla voice command still works. Also, you do not have to push a button to use Siri… just say hey siri.

I don’t think you can do 360 camera yet and I think the reason aftermarket products can’t do it because Tesla won’t allow to access cameras on the car for security purposes.

@@SmoothBassVO To output through car speakers you just need to switch it on your phone. As for the mic, it will pick up from your phone and not the car.

Just got this. Cannot connect at all. Constantly get error: The Internet is unreachable. Please check your firewall settings and Internet connection. Any suggestions or ideas? Have used your video as a guide, as well as companies. Nothing works.

I had the same issue before and I updated the firmware which helped solved it.

You really think that's responsive?
Yes, compare to previous versions or other brand. It’s definitely not as responsive as a built-in CarPlay in other car or extra display with built-in CarPlay. But this device in my opinion is easiest and most affordable way to get a CarPlay in my Tesla.
