Hope that clears that up
what a time to be alive where people complain that canon has to many codec options, literally 4 years a go people complained canon doesn't have enough codec options, now they gave you every possible flavour now it's too much goes to show why it's just pick your system and make your stories, you can't actually please creators, everyone will still choose what works for them in the long run
Something to try at some point, in a scene/situation where you don't have such a wide range of exposure to worry about (like windows in the bg)... set the base to 3200 or 12800 but lower the set ISO after that to a lower value. So set it to 3200 base but set things back down to 800, or 12800 but set things back down to 3200. If you do Base 3200 Set 800, you should end up with an general exposure similar to what the Base 800 Set 800 would give you, but less stops in the highlights, more in the shadows, and a lower *gain* on the signal. That's a very different set of options vs. what most are used to on DSLRs or some other popular cams out there. Sometimes you need a little boost, but the jump is just too far, so when you know that top stop or two can be lost, it's a great way to give yourself some sensitivity help but remove some of the noise hit. UPDATE: Looks like at Base 3200 you can go down to 1000 and Base 12800 you can go down to 4000.

Love this video by the way man thanks for making it I just got my R5II as I’m still in the hybrid shooting situation.
Kofi! Thanks for the video man. I appreciate the part of testing with the autofocus on different skin tones. That was my only issue with the C70. I went to a Canon demo event the week the C80 was announced and only had the camera in my hands for like 5 mins. The autofocus seemed snappier and better on the darker skin tones but I’m glad you did some testing with it.
I agree with the height of the camera.. fx3 is my main camera and when not on a gimbal or tripod, I add a v mount battery to balance with the 35-150 and of course for the battery life. I used to have a plate with rails and I hate how tall it was. I just watched the video for fun but it wouldn't be a camera I would consider mainly for the form factor..
Great video and straight to the point with style:) I was also looking at this camera and others as we all do, but was reminded by a fellow shooter, if you want to freelance and shoot for other production companies etc you have to have Sony. As great as all these cameras all are, its as it stands its a Sony dominated realm at the moment. Greetings from South Africa.
This is why Blackmagic is the best camera manufacturer. Well, at least until I get to use an ARRI camera. Blackmagic camera footage looks beautiful, great in low light, straight-forward and easy to navigate menu system. I've used Sony FX cameras, Canon Cinema cameras, and Blackmagic cameras. I've enjoyed Blackmagic the most due to spending less time fiddling with the camera and more time focused on the production happening in front of me. I'd love to get my hands on an ARRI camera, though. 😀
I'm very excited about this camera (and I appreciate this video), but I always like to remind new filmmakers that they should be able to get great results with any cinema, mirrorless or DSLR camera made within the last ten years. Don't let the constant "advancements" fool you. The fundamentals remain largely unchanged and, in reality, you probably don't even need to shoot in 4K, let alone 6K or 8K. We have a glut of amazing, affordable options, from used Canon C100s and 200s to Panasonic GH5s and Sony A7Ss. Heck, even a $1500 Sony FX30 can do it all. Most clients are none-the-wiser. I acknowledge, optics are a thing to consider. Small cameras like the FX30 or GH5 can look cheap if not rigged up, but I've found that this is rarely an issue. I shot hundreds of commercials for the Detroit and Atlanta markets on an unrigged Panasonic GH5 for several years and never once did a client question the gear.
