I like these videos so I know what I'm getting into before I attempt to do the job. Mine didn't have the Phillips screw all were hex nuts, not 8 mm but close. Another thing I had to do is vacuum out the box, it had leaves, dirt and other road debris. Thanks for the video.

I just purchased a 2015 Escape and really like this car! Watching your videos provide the basic knowledge so that I'll be able to do the typical things like oil changes, air filters, etc.. I have always wondered about the jack points as I have the floor jack and jack stands but wasn't sure exactly where to put the jack. Really glad to find your videos!! Nice job too....you cover the information, your shots are well placed, and you stick to the point of the video. Well done, professional job.

Napa Gold Filter 9017 fit perfectly without any fighting. The Motorcraft one that I got wouldn't even allow every bolt to line up.

Hi @Jim, yes- it's not too bad, but you do need to take out the air intake box as well as disconnect some of the hoses. Having it tucked all the way back there doesn't make it too intuitive but it's not awful. Maybe that will be one of the up coming videos :-)

Warning! The replacement filters from Motorcraft and all other parts vendors that I’ve tried are not quite the same size as the factory installed filter (OEM), and it can be difficult to get the after-market filters installed, especially putting the housing cover back on. This was a sloppy job by Ford’s part spec system and the parts suppliers, the old “one size fits none” approach to save a few pennies. The filters from Motorcraft and most other parts vendors are about 1/8” longer than OEM, and typically have plastic end caps that are black. The filter from NAPA (part # SFI 29017) and maybe also from O'reilly, are the correct length, and have plastic end caps that are gray, but the flanges on the end caps are thicker than the OEM and they do not drop into the housing slots “like butter”. After many contortions, I found that I could successfully install the NAPA filter. When you place the filter into the lower part of the housing, lower the filer horizontally until it bumps the housing, then tilt the filter a bit and push the filter’s end hole over the housing aperture, then rigorously push the opposite end of the filter (blanked-off cap) toward the passenger side of the car and push the filter down into the housing, making sure that the filter’s blank end cap goes inboard of the tab on the bottom of the housing. I found that I could then successfully install the housing cover over the NAPA filter by rigorously pushing sideways on the cover toward the passenger side of the car while simultaneously rigorously pushing down on the housing to seat it in place. I never let up on the sideways push, and after the housing cover is as low as it will go, I use the hand that was pushing down to grab a socket extension and start all 4 screws into the housing. Whew! I don’t know if the same technique could install the filters that are 1/8” too long, it seems like you would need a crowbar. I must say that quality is slipping at Ford. There are other things that were done poorly on my Escape, a goofy ventilation system, screwy radio controls, and a recall for the door latches. I don’t trust Ford dealer service to do a good job with the filter, they already munged my cabin air filter by not re-assembling the covers properly.

Thanks for the input, @Owner_X. Seems strange that the OEM filters wouldn't fit right- I'll include your warning in an annotation. Thanks for watching and contributing!

You have no idea how happy you made me posting this. I thought I was f*ing insane that I couldn't install this damn thing. I spent 35 minutes futzing with the damn filter trying to get it to fit into the grooved slot on the drivers side and no matter what I did it wouldn't fit. Like you said it was just too damn long and this wouldn't allow the cover for the box to go back into proper alignment.
For references purposes I have a 2014 2.0L Titanium and was replacing with a Fram (Part#CA11114).
I'll have to return the Fram one and try out the one from NAPA and see if it's any better. Will post an update on how that goes.
Update: The NAPA was still a bit snug but it did fit.

Owner X I just had the same problem with a motorcraft "recommended" air filter. Got it inside by putting the flat size first, but it looks a bit tight now.

Ditto. I actually had to break some of the inside support structure to get mine to fit. I had to compress it like an accordion. Ford's air box design team blows. Always trying to make something simple complicated.

I ran into this exact problem yesterday. After 20 minutes of in and out fighting the ford filter i got a napa filter and right in.

FRAM SA11114 does not fit in the 14 Escape 1.6L :( Im going to trim the rubber abit so it can fit....

Hey @Nicolas- bummer on that- that's listed for a recommended filter though, correct? Are you sure you tried to fit it every which way? There are the orientation nubs to note, but I know the video already mentions that. Which part are you finding that you need to trim?

@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews I have the 2.0L engine and also just returned the FRAM CA11114 filter. There is no alignment tab. The height a touch taller which makes it tough to put into the slot. Its also a tad bigger in diameter which doesnt allow the cover screws to align.
