it's similar to making friends with people when meeting them for the first time. Only that you need to be professional about it. Don't say questionable/inappropriate things. There is one thing where I think you are wrong: a CV is different in different countries. If you're looking for an internship in the US, I think a CV must be just 1 page, as you said. But I think most of your viewers are from the UK. Here a CV HAS to be 2 pages long. I'm just saying so that people in the UK don't make that mistake
I do agree that different countries have different CV requirements. I know some countries (not UK) want you to state whether you have a driving license and your date of birth. However CVs definitely shouldn't be 2 pages in the UK in most cases, especially if you're only filling the page to reach that limit, and especially if you're still young and haven't had much experience anyway. An example of people that can have 2 page CVs is academics, who have to list their publications, students they've supervised for phd, teaching positions and conferences they presented in. Probably some other professionals that have had lots of relevant experience, probably not the target audience of this video. 99.999% of the viewers reading this (Hello there!) should stick to one page.
@@danakirsh this is what I have been told at university, and yes, for all jobs. They said we have to explain everything, how we have gained our skills, what our experience has provided us with... My CV is two pages long not even trying to get it to that length
@@lbriganti514 if you're a uni student and you have a 2 page long CV then more likely than not you need to cut some fluff out. A uni friend of mine had a 2 page long CV, and I helped him cut it to 1 page very easily by just being more concise. CVs shouldn't go on about each experience at length, more like a few sentences about the last 3-5 most relevant experiences youve had. For the record, my uni career centre said we should stick to 1 page.
Thank you for being so real about internships, Jade. I feel like career advisers often skip over some of the most important parts which you said, like REFLECTING on the experience (not just preparing). So I really appreciate your point of view!! 💛
This was, by far, the most inspiring and useful advice anyone could have condensed into a video for public viewing on the internet. I also feel, the journey itself and the post internship reflection is applicable to every one across the stages of work life! It applies to people entering the work force as employees straight out of college, and even someone who has been working for a couple of years. Thank you so so much for putting the time and effort you do into these amazing informational advice videos, Jade! This honestly felt like a call that I would have for advice with a senior of mine :)
Hi jade! I live in Argentina and I’ve always wanted to get an internship abroad. Do you have any tips for “foreign” people? As minorities it is sometimes harder to get to big companies. Of course I’m willing to try 😎
OMG I'm as early as 8seconds!! WOW! Hi Jade ❤️❤️❤️ The topic of this video is *really* relevant to me right now, and I can't thank you enough for it. ❤️
Wow, this video comes at a great timing🥺. I recently finished high school in Germany and wanted to start an internship in Berlin. I knew I had difficulties at being social and sometimes even wondered if I have some sort of disorder but I thought I didn't. I ended up being accepted at an internship in Berlin an well... Yesterday, I had my first day. And it was kind of frightening. Things just didn't work out because I felt it was too much to do and also I feared being somehow socially awkward and not fitting in. It was intense. Now today I am seriously thinking about quitting it (I know, after just one day...). Because suddenly these fears about needing therapy and becoming depressive again came back. But then I also think about how this was the only internship I was accepted to and that I maybe wouldn't know how to fill that empty space in my CV. I seriously hope that I make the right decision cause I just wanted to have a good time...
Great video! Wish I had this before I did my undergrad placement Another great site is ratemyplacement, it's really good for internships and undergraduate placement listings. Also, as someone who had be trawl through endless placement CVs and cover letters, the people who always stood out were those who showed good soft/transferable skills. And in your cover letter, definitely showcase your knowledge of the company AND LINK THIS TO YOU! My go to when I was applying for placements would be searching up the company's values and show how my skills and experience fit into this. It shows you have interest in the company and that you would be a good fit in the company
Hi Jade! I study fashion marketing at Uni of Manchester & just started my 3rd year placement at a fashion company as a buying intern! Worked 4 days so far and I’m loving it! Loved this advice💫💜xx
Thank you so much for the CV/cover letter templates and the super helpful advice!! I am definitely the kind of person who would rather put in more effort on fewer applications, rather than sending out a generic CV to everyone, so I appreciated hearing your take on that. As always, you made my day better
ahhh i'm so grateful for the videos jade puts up on UA-cam! they have always seemed to be so relevant in my life (I don't know how she does it) and helpful to me!!
You are amazing! Intelligent, kindhearted, precious, beautiful, extraordinary, perfect! I love you! I am going through a very painful stage of my life and your videos make me feel better, thank you so much I wish you the best! Love you
My #1 top tip from someone who got through to the interview stage for most of my placement applications. Read the placement description for skills they are looking for and read the company website for the company ethics and values. Use these to help write your cover letters and cvs, the recruitment team will look for these to ‘tick boxes’ when they read applications. Also the point about spending time on each application is 100% true. I think I spent a good 4 hours minimum writing each cover letter. Hope this helps someone out 😊
*YES* !! please can you do more videos like this? pretty please, a lot of us recently out of uni have no clue how to navigate the work place :( PS: where's #8? O.o
I'm a few years older than you Jade, and kinda thought I had the whole work/networking thing down but this just taught me so much and I'm wishing I was 19 again!!
You are so inspiring to me you have no idea, you are the reason I got up from the bed one day after a long time. Now I go on self-dates, like myself more and am about to start new studies which I am super excited about! Oh well and I am older than you 😅 but you are a mom of my mental health, girl
This is fantastic advice! I would love a video on the interview process because I'm great at writing cover letters and CVs but I'm atrocious at interviews.
Hey Jade! I realised I'm actually quite similar to you! Hope you enjoy uni I'm from the UK (N.Wales) I'm 19 year old teenage girl I got rejected from Cambridge Mostly vegan! (apart from some family dinners) Entering my second year at uni I had a really serious work routine for A-levels and got 2A* , 3A
Well done for starting young, it's never too early to start working on your career, and will give you a great headstart! There are some internships for a level students, but mostly they are for uni students. However, there are a lot of other work experience opportunities you can apply for. Some websites I'd start looking into: lots of things - www.studentladder.co.uk/ accounting - bdoearlyincareer.co.uk/summer-school/ science - www.nuffieldfoundation.org/students-teachers/nuffield-research-placements technology internship - careers.metaswitch.com/careers/apply/applyonline.aspx?mode=Apply&type=Cv&campaign=580&hsCtaTracking=66b7fb45-82f9-43a3-874a-efecdceb4114%7C076cb441-3dd9-47d0-bcc0-7c2bcdae0428 there are many many other professional opportunities. Also as a year 12 student you're in the best position to also take advantage of outreach events universities organise. These are often free or relatively cheap, and are great for meeting like minded people your age, they're fun and great for putting in your personal statement. Some examples: www.uniq.ox.ac.uk/ www.ucl.ac.uk/widening-participation/learners/year-12-and-13 summerschools.suttontrust.com/ www.trin.cam.ac.uk/access/residential/ Also worth mentioning that interviewers can ask general questions like: - "tell me about a time you failed and what you learned from it" - "tell me about a time you had to work in a team" - "tell me about a task you performed under pressure and how you approached it" - "give an example of a problem you had to solve or a disagreement you had with someone and how you dealt with it" These are very general to allow each individual to bring examples from their own lives, meaning that any experience you have can be useful for learning skills you can mention in interviews. Point is: you don't have to specifically get internships right away. Work experience, tutoring, part time service jobs, volunteering, being active in school, sports all can be helpful in that regard. Good luck!
this is so useful thank you ! I've just graduated uni and try to get a graduate job or internship has seemed impossible at the moment, I've lost count of how many things I've applied to !
I was ABOUT to search this up because I am looking for an internship next year and your video was the first thing on my recommended! THANK YOU JADE, WE LOVE YOU!
Wow Jade, this video could not have come at a better time for me! I have just started looking for an internship for next January and I have been struggling to actually start sending applications and networking because it will be a very important internship for me so I've been quite stressed about it and the way I cope with this kind of stress is: delay what I have to do (which is obviously counter-productive). This video is giving me motivation to GO GET THAT INTERNSHIP aha. Thank you !

Do this a couple of times qnd you are making an internship for yourself. 3.traditional applications Cv/resume and cover letter She put in her resume and cv in the video Be blank on your resume and professional Edit your cv for every job. Put something special in your cover letter. Make sure to craft it for what they are looking for. Include precise numbers. 4.pre-internship Basic research on team, company hierarchy, mission 5.during the internship 10tips 1.set personal goals at the start(share with your manager. Keep you accountable. 2.develop consistent working style(e.a. Collaborative asana board, slack channels, email). 3.communication with your manager(how how often what about). 4.organisation and deadlines( get on top of it and impress) 5.be proactive (your ideas are valuable) 6.evaluate manager relationship (do you prefer freedom? The world needs more people like you!! You’re one of the sweetest, kind and cheerful person I’ve ever seen in my entire life!! You’re inspiring me so so much and I’m happy for following you r channel!! Love from Italy!!
this is great advice, but there are plenty of firms in sectors that don't give out work experience or internships to people who just message them on LinkedIn. Personally, I'm applying for vacation schemes for law firms at the moment, and the ONLY way to get them is to fill out all the application forms. Me sending the CEO or a top partner of a global law firm an article about something I'd seen would do very little. Obviously, for firms that are far smaller, this might not be the case - I got a few bits of (unpaid) work experience by just emailing someone, or through having a personal contact. This is great to learn more about an industry, to work out if you like it or not, and to put on your CV, but it is unpaid. If you want something paid, the best bet is to go through the official means of applying.
this is such an amazing video! thank you jade :) i’m in my first year of college and my goal is to one day work for spotify and i will be using all these tips in my future!

I'm studying for three years now and did not do a single internship. Why? Well, I am afraid of it. But the most important thing is: I simply don't have enough time. Most companies want your internship to last at least two months. But I just never have so much time. We have exactly two months between the end of lectures and the begin of next semester, and mostly there are exams in this time. And even if they aren't, I really really need a break and some holiday. How do you manage to find time to do an internship?
@@filmsbynix I know it would be beneficial, but how did you make time? During lecture time I'm already working about 45 hours per week - and as I said above there isn't enough time between the end of one semester and the begin of another to actually do an internship, as most companies want you to stay at least two months.
as internships are only an option for privileged people, as working class professionals can't afford to work for free - what would you suggest for working class people attempting to enter an industry?
internships are not all free. Many internships are paid, some you could even say are well paid. If you can't find a paid internship you can either get a normal part time/summer job or apply for an unpaid one and get funding from somewhere else. I know some universities have schemes where they help you fund your internship if it's unpaid. Also you should generally apply to scholarships, there are a lot for people from low socio-economic backgrounds.
For US based people starting their career, either in college or older, my biggest recommendation is the blog Ask A Manager! She gives incredible work advice, really gives you perspective on what is normal and acceptable and what is not, and her blog has helped me out so much as I've started my career (I'm 26). I know some norms are different in the UK v. US so wanted to offer this up for your US viewers!
Thank you so much. This is helpful for anyone looking for a direction in the career that they desire, especially me, a graduate looking for a job but also maybe picking up something outside of my field!
Watching this video inspired me to look more into organizations working on food security in Canada and I came across a really cool networking opportunity that I wouldn't have found otherwise. Thanks!

we gonna be inspired today folks!! :D
Jade, your CV is SMASHING it. You're a queen!! You inspire me every day to be a better person.
do you still have the files, the link doesnt work anymore :(((
You are amazing as always.....That smile on your face hypes me up....
Thank you Jade....You are such a good and great inspiration....
Currently, I am working on my NOTION account, I am trying to personalize it as yours....
Thank youuuuuu kind soul...
I think it's our turn to say that YOU ARE ENOUGH.....
❤❤❤❤
Last time I was this early, Jade was doing her A Levels
J Asante Jade always doing her best. That's why we are here 😊
OMG I'm as early as 8seconds!! WOW!
Hi Jade ❤️❤️❤️
The topic of this video is *really* relevant to me right now, and I can't thank you enough for it.
I feel you 100%! Try to give it some more time, and don't put too much pressure on yourself!
Nerea I’ll try my best. Thanks for the support 😊
woah! snatched it right away. great video and beautiful smile as per usual.
Great video! Wish I had this before I did my undergrad placement
Another great site is ratemyplacement, it's really good for internships and undergraduate placement listings.
Loved this advice💫💜xx
wow thats amazing well done!
Sounds interesting! You should do UA-cam as well! It would be so fun
Smile Banana aww thank you so much!!☺️xx
Eve Andrews aww thanks! I’ve always wanted to tbh but I’m unsure of what I want my channel to be exactly. maybe subscribe incase I do haha😉xx
Thank you so much for the CV/cover letter templates and the super helpful advice!! I am definitely the kind of person who would rather put in more effort on fewer applications, rather than sending out a generic CV to everyone, so I appreciated hearing your take on that. As always, you made my day better
do you still have the files, the link doesnt work anymore :(((
ahhh i'm so grateful for the videos jade puts up on UA-cam! they have always seemed to be so relevant in my life (I don't know how she does it) and helpful to me!!
I'm not even in college yet still I'm watching😂😂😂
You are amazing! Intelligent, kindhearted, precious, beautiful, extraordinary, perfect! I love you! I am going through a very painful stage of my life and your videos make me feel better, thank you so much I wish you the best! Love you
Please share with us more more more Berlin vlog!! I love Germany but I have never been there so Its soo great to see on your channel
Hope this helps someone out 😊
omg just started researching internships this week ! Can't wait to watch !
omg good luck!! I hope you find some opportunities that resonate with you
Jade, all I can say is THANK YOU! You are the B E S T role model for young girls and people in general!! We appreciate you so much!!
Jade😍😍😲😲 I can see that inner glow tho
Also would love if you could give tips on starting to use LinkedIn 💖
*YES* !! please can you do more videos like this? pretty please, a lot of us recently out of uni have no clue how to navigate the work place :(
PS: where's #8? O.o
The one thing I can do: stalk someone on social media lolol
Would love loveee a video on interviews I’m so so bad and kinda terrified of them 😭
JADE I SWEAR WE ARE TELEPATHIC! I just got my first internship yesterday and this is perfect! xxx
Genuinely always thought internships were just an American thing and not something we have in the UK...
Hope you enjoy uni
I'm from the UK (N.Wales)
I'm 19 year old teenage girl
I got rejected from Cambridge
Mostly vegan! (apart from some family dinners)
Entering my second year at uni
I had a really serious work routine for A-levels and got 2A* , 3A
Hey Jade, I recently started my A levels, but can I still apply for an internship? Thank you for this amazing video.
Well done for starting young, it's never too early to start working on your career, and will give you a great headstart!
There are some internships for a level students, but mostly they are for uni students. However, there are a lot of other work experience opportunities you can apply for. Some websites I'd start looking into:
lots of things - www.studentladder.co.uk/
accounting - bdoearlyincareer.co.uk/summer-school/
science - www.nuffieldfoundation.org/students-teachers/nuffield-research-placements
technology internship - careers.metaswitch.com/careers/apply/applyonline.aspx?mode=Apply&type=Cv&campaign=580&hsCtaTracking=66b7fb45-82f9-43a3-874a-efecdceb4114%7C076cb441-3dd9-47d0-bcc0-7c2bcdae0428
there are many many other professional opportunities. Also as a year 12 student you're in the best position to also take advantage of outreach events universities organise. These are often free or relatively cheap, and are great for meeting like minded people your age, they're fun and great for putting in your personal statement. Some examples:
www.uniq.ox.ac.uk/
www.ucl.ac.uk/widening-participation/learners/year-12-and-13
summerschools.suttontrust.com/
www.trin.cam.ac.uk/access/residential/
Also worth mentioning that interviewers can ask general questions like:
- "tell me about a time you failed and what you learned from it"
- "tell me about a time you had to work in a team"
- "tell me about a task you performed under pressure and how you approached it"
- "give an example of a problem you had to solve or a disagreement you had with someone and how you dealt with it"
These are very general to allow each individual to bring examples from their own lives, meaning that any experience you have can be useful for learning skills you can mention in interviews. Point is: you don't have to specifically get internships right away. Work experience, tutoring, part time service jobs, volunteering, being active in school, sports all can be helpful in that regard. Good luck!
@@danakirsh You are AMAZING.
this is so useful thank you !
Thank you !
So happy I ran into this! I'm currently in the middle of my internship with a international NGO (MakeEveryWomanCount) and honestly I've been meaning to communicate more with my supervisors and colleagues, so thanks for helpful advice Jade!
To my surprise, imma go for an internship program on October! Thanks for this !
Yessss this is awesome!! Good luck ✨
Thank you for this advice jade, I feel like careers advisors and stuff are so out of touch with things, great to hear it from someone who’s been through it! xx
This video did make the whole "getting the internship" process a little less intimidating, thank you :)
I never thought of "Informational Interviews", so that was new!
When online classes are stressing you out, watch a Jade video ❤
1.what do you want to learn(indentify the sector, company, specific skills)

If there is a panel and there is a speaker who you want to network with after the speaking find them and ask to set an inf.int. or even right there and then. Ask meaningful questions.
3. Get contact details and provide value
Get their email. Send them what you think will be helpful to them. An article myb what you personally thought it could relate to the comp. Do this a couple of times qnd you are making an internship for yourself.

i see u setting urself up for POST-HIGH-SCHOOL SUCCESS
Omg yes queen ❤️🥺 wishing you luck and happiness for your stay in Berlin
Thank you so much Jadeee.. So much love from South Africa ❤️🌍

Is gotten a word? It doesn’t sound right to me lol
And what do you when your team is very nice but they are so busy that they barely have time for you even though you're very proactive and the team is happy with your work but you don't feel challenged enough, you don't get a lot of feedback etc.?

was yours a paid internship?
wow, I wish the italian job market would be as open to young people. it's practically impossible to get into it before the postgrad degree.

Jade, how do you document your daily life?
Good luck to everyone looking for an internship!!! 🙏🦋💕❤️💫
Do you have a LinkedIn profile? Would love to connect😍😍😍
Fun fact (or not so fun^^) : After means Anus in German. Cheers. XD
Is there another available template for the cover letter since the link seems to be broken?
Literally looking for an internship right now stressed as fuck
I can't access the templates because it's a region restriction....
Love these advice videos ❤️👍
You are a beautiful person Jade, Thank you🧡
as internships are only an option for privileged people, as working class professionals can't afford to work for free - what would you suggest for working class people attempting to enter an industry?
internships are not all free.
I'd appreciate if you'd do a LinkedIn 101
Thank you thank you thank you Jade!!!! This video is so important, we’d love more professional advice video! :)
Thank you so much. This is helpful for anyone looking for a direction in the career that they desire, especially me, a graduate looking for a job but also maybe picking up something outside of my field!
i’m not currently thinking of applying for an internship but if i do decide to this will be super helpful, thanks jade!
Watching this video inspired me to look more into organizations working on food security in Canada and I came across a really cool networking opportunity that I wouldn't have found otherwise. Thanks!
Lots of great advice in this video and in the comments ☺️ your hair looks so good too!!
How do you ask someone to be a mentor/how to get a mentor?
Hi, Jade thank you for this video it's so helpful. I have a question though: would this advice still apply if I want an internship/job with a dancing or acting positions?
This is literally THE BEST timing. I was just done calling a bunch of people for an internship and was getting so frustrated because it didn’t go well that I decided to give up for today and just watch youtube hahaga and the first video I see is yours!
I don't even know what any of this means but I'm just watching her video cuz I adore her. 😭😭😂😂
Thanks for this motivational video! I'm working as an Intern in Malta now so these lil, yet important tips are really helpfull
