Honestly though. If they say to decide or determine what you want to do ahead so that you won't be in stress or a dilemma of what you want to do your entire. Then isn't just the thought of deciding it even more stressful. (If it isn't then idk what is) Like think about if you really plan everything or decide what you want to become at such a young age (at least for me) it just is going to create more tension around me. i've found this to be so true. i'm 22, just finished a degree in middle eastern studies and now i work full-time as a librarian as well as doing freelance translation and english teaching on the side - none of these were my "dream careers", but u know what? i enjoy my life and what i do, i feel like i give value to the world and my community, i make enough money to live comfortably and i'm developing useful life and career skills. so i'm happy and ready to see what life throws at me in the coming years without really worrying about following any kind of traditional career path.

I've always found it so difficult to figure out that one "fixed" job for myself. This video is so reassuring of all that I've always felt about choosing a career. Also, as I was watching the video I was reminded of something that Stephen Fry once said (while quoting Oscar Wilde), "If you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it - that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing - an actor, a writer - I am a person who does things - I write, I act - and I never know what I am going to do next. You see... The near entire college education complex save for the practical and technical fields have been hijacked by the goons of a maffia oligarchy for their extreme (left, anti-Whìte) agenda. There is no shred of merit there left but whatever they kept from actual scholars and critical thinkers in the past which they haven't removed yet out of agenda and bias. You will find self-education about those topics far more rewarding, useful and educational. It is a money pit and unless you have no spine and are a rotten character you will find yourself disgusted and in waste of your time and effort. Sadly these institutions are largely reduced to places where the regime can mine drones and where the "lefty" bourgeois aristocracy can network to distribute posts in the colonial exploitation of the people who actually build the country and keep it functional. Melissa T. i guess some ppl crave change in their life for many reasons and take different routes which may not solely be just about feeling like they’re running out of learning and hitting a dead end if that makes sense? hobbies are great, i guess some people aim for more and just feel unfulfilled, nothing wrong w hobbies tho! maybe depends on the person and nature of the job and the whole journey. like if someone has a whole plan mapped out and is currently in a different place, they just might feel unhappy doing the same thing, or are in a place they wanna be in but change and want to also change where they are, and learn more in a different area, in that sense? :)
i’ve recently graduated and the STRESS i feel when people ask me ‘wHaT aRe YoU dOiNg NeXt?’ like IDK!! as long as i’m not stuck in a job i hate i’m happy, you know? 😅 also sometimes i think if careers in an ideal dream world i could do but i feel silly telling people them 😭

I totally agree with you, but the only thing I don't like about this idea is the uncertainty that comes with it which adds to the anxiety I feel everyday thinking about my future. Also being a second generation immigrant and raised by a single mother doesn't help. I feel like I'm under constant pressure from my parents. They want to finally reap the fruits of their migration to Europe which was to secure a better future for their kids. Also seeing my mother struggle and work long hours to provide for my siblings and I , just adds to that pressure and feels like a countdown, I want to establish myself/career quickly so I can takeover and do my part as well. If anyone would like to give some advice or/and add anything please do.
My advice to you is : don't let those things you mentioned hold you back immigrant! So what ? Look at Gary V , single mom! So what? I mean use those circumstances to push you and not hold you back . Either you make it or you make it , have faith and work hard . Good luck ❤
My dad was from a single parent household, he came to this country and his father left him when he was 7. He had severe anxiety and depression but that didn’t stop him. Like Jade said in this video, take whatever job you’re doing and just work hard at it. My dad worked so hard and has been working his whole life, from helping his mum sew clothes so they could sell them and make ends meet. In the end, the last 10 years is when he started to really see money and that’s only because he took his job and worked so hard at it. You asked for advice so I’d give you this, be a good person with everything you do, be the best employee you can be, always learn and ask yourself what can I do to improve (take constructive feedback and apply it) and choose something that you genuinely have a passion for so it can drive you. The last advice I have is always have the right intention or strive to have it and continuously refresh it.
Just remember that your mental health and what YOU want to do is most important! (You can see it like this: your parents don’t benefit from you not doing what you like and a bad mental health for you, even if it seems like they want you to do a certain thing.) Take time for yourself, to have fun, to find your way; together with working hard and you can do anything
It's good advice but making ends meet is important. I'm not from the same background, but if money is bothering you, start working a part time job. Having a little nest egg of savings will give you that financial freedom and independence when it comes to leaving home. (If you want to) Also retail may be absolute hell but you gain all these "soft skills" employers want from you which basically boils down to "can you deal with a Karen successfully?" Karen's are everywhere; your boss, your customers, clients, a difficult situation etc. You might not have a career or industry or selection of "I'm interested in X" picked out, but the good thing about a 9 - 5 is they are stable, easy jobs. So while you might be thinking "I hate This but Bill's" you can still look for other jobs and apply to as many as you want. Real talk - I applied to 200 jobs after uni. I worked in fast food at about application 150 and then I started to get interviews. 10 interviews later and I was picked for 1 job. Soul destroying but necessary. Now I've worked for 3 years at 2 different 9 - 5s, I have more of an idea what I want to do. Let me tell you, I regret not going head first into media studies; practical application to what I ACTUALLY want to do with my life. Instead I did the "equally useless" ancient history degree. So... do what you want, but like... you on a day to day basis. You in 10 years time who won't look back and go "well that was a waste" and weekend you - do they have a good time?
Welllll, I prayed to God (Jesus) for guidance and He revealed it to me. Also, your purpose transcends any discipline/career. There’s more to life than work. You’ll find the career for you. Don’t worry. I also recommend looking at what you’re naturally gifted in. That also helped w/ my decision.

Love this Jade!!! There’s definitely a lot of pressure to know what you want to be when you “grow up.” But it’s so strange because aren’t we always growing? Shouldn’t we be striving to be better in every aspect of our lives, and doesn’t that also apply to our careers? As an international student in the US, I definitely feel a little boxed in by the fact that we can only do internships “related” to our career because I have a million different things I want to try out! I'm probably going to do a video like that on my channel soon, so that will probably be much more in-depth, but I honestly would say it's not really worth it, especially with everything going on right now. I was lucky to get a scholarship though so I'm not spending as much money as I would be otherwise. I guess the exception is if you're attending one of those really well-known unis like Harvard or Stanford, and even then, those can be really expensive if you're not able to get financial aid. Definitely don't restrict yourself to only applying to colleges in the US though! I did that and I really do not recommend it. I always told my children that the world is changing so fast that you never know what you actually will do in later life. You just should get a lot of broad knowledge, and build on that in your work life. My wife studied psychology, but is now a professional blogger, something that did not exist 30 years ago when she was in uni.
What Jade says about being a completely different person when you graduate it's absolutely true. I'm about to graduate and my 18-year old self would have never imagined that I would we working where I work, and that I would have the interests I have now. Keep your options open, as Jade says, and it will all come together✨

while this is very uplifting, i'd like to add an additional variable to keep in mind: employers are still mostly members of previous generation(s), and thus abide by those 'unspoken rules' (i.e. they use them to find ways of underpaying their staff; that's why it still is problematic to want to shift your career - if you're young, they assume you're inexperienced and you get paid less, if you're older and have an impressive resume, they claim you're overqualified and are reluctant to hire you bc it'd cost them too much)
it's problematic because you see it as problematic. i'm 19 and i recently got a remote job in berlin which allows me to travel europe whenever i want whilst working. next year, i might do a journalism traineeship in london, or work as a bartender, or just save the money i make and travel and volunteer, or i could freelance, or i could go to university. i promise you that there are opportunities all around you if you're acc capable of thinking outside the box. lots n lots of people go through diff careers in their lives and so can you if you want x
@@heidihenftling1427 hey, that's great, i'm very happy for you!! but surely you do realize that that's more of an exception than a rule. and what you've described sounds really fun, but you also have to consider boring practical things (i.e. necessary evils) such as pension plans and credit scores and healthcare benefits, which are still lacking in less stable or more nontraditional jobs (as well as some entry level positions) - that's one of the reasons why many people really cannot afford to think like that (long term), especially those not from first world countries, or who don't come from money (or immigrants), it requires a certain kind of privilege that remains unchecked for most people who have it (which is probs why i took an issue with that point jade made). all the best xx

You show me that the world is not just about school, but life is about family, being happy and having fun in life. Your videos give me motivation and I start to believe in myself, something I've never done. I have always been a very quiet girl, and had become very depressed for a while because I always wanted to get very high marks at school, but that was so wrong, of course school is important and it opens doors for the future, but what is a future without being happy. Being happy is the key to the door of the future. Worst question in my medical interview: where do u see yourself in 5 years. My first thought: dead? (my clumsy self probably will fall into a hole in the ground or something equally dumb)
I hate this question too. I was applying to different scholarships this year for uni and most had questions like what do you see yourself doing in 5,10 years etc. I literally just made up as if I had this definite plan when I know that I have no idea if that will be what I will be doing. People assume that if you don’t have this plan in place then you obviously aren’t motivated and driven so you would just waste the scholarship or drop out half way through uni etc. I have never been a goal driven person and I always found it weird when people would ask me what my goal was for results etc because my attitude was always just to do as well as I could and put in my full effort. I feel like having a goal to get a specific result in a subject for example can put like a cap on what you think you can achieve or make you feel like you should have done more when you couldn’t have. Can’t control the outcome only the process. I know I’ll be working hard and trying to make the best choices along the way but how could I possibly know what the outcome of that work will be in 5 or 10 years?

This is just what I needed. I've made a lot of changes in my life over the last year and recently I started to ask myself if it was all worth it. I switched from science-expended (chemistry, bio, maths) curriculum to the humanities. In my country we're being made to choose what we want to study at really young age, with few occasions to modify it on the way, and after three years of crazy amount of science I wasn't sure whether I'd keep up with humanities. It turned out to be actually too easy for me, since I am naturally more talented in that area and was used to very demanding program. Then, during this year, my ambition somehow died? I just stopped caring whatsoever. I used to be an academic level student, scoring at top places in various competitions, mostly in polish (my mothertongue), history and maths. But this year I let myself do nothing except what was mandatory. I kept up my good grades, solid façade, but I wasn't doing anything else. I lost all my passions. I was meant to study polish, but realized it does not have a future. I used to love history, now I loathe it (that one is my new teacher's fault). I am interested in languages but that too isn't what I want to do in life. Especially after an exam I took today in which my English appeared to be not as good as I thought it was. Lately a friend asked me if I'm set on studying abroad. And god, if I don't even know WHAT to study, how I am supposed to know WHERE? I'm starting to give up my last passion left: writing. I don't know what I will do with nothing to hold onto. But that's fine, you just gave me a ray of sunshine and maybe soon I will see the full sun through the current storm clouds.

Life is meant to be lived, it's meant to be fun, we must learn far beyond what is taught inside any institution. Setting a solid plan for yourself will close so many doors, will turn you away from so many amazing opportunities. It creates disappointment if you're not always exactly where you planned to be. Not everything you do in life has to work towards money or stability. Doing things that make you happy, going outside your comfort zone, giving yourself a break; these things are just as productive. There are many things to learn from this world, but most importantly you must learn about yourself. Everything will fall into place if you follow the path that you least expect. :)
Not knowing what to do honestly gives me so much anxiety each day. My uni pressures us to do all this work experience yet I just don’t even know what sector to go into as nothing is inspiring me... I just want to be happy doing something, not just working for some moraless company who don’t value me :( just feel so worthless and lost!
I hear what you’re saying! But maybe work experience will teach you new skills and values and also what you don’t what to do. You may meet people there who give you a new perspective.
Doing work experience will never hurt you. You're not committing to a career, just gaining valuable experience which will be good on your CV. Even if what you apply for in the future is in a different sector; employers will look for people that have worked a day in their lives.

This is so so reassuring. You are 100% correct in saying that our paths do not line up with past generations. Ofc they chose a career path and stuck with it, they didn't know about all the other stuff out there. It's been this stuck mindset for so long and it makes me so so happy to hear you say that we have the freedom to try new things.
ever since I was 8 I have wanted to study law. I still want to study law and I just got into my degree. I’m currently working in a supermarket, it’s not pleasant but I try my best everyday. To be a qualified lawyer where I’m studying, I need to study for 6 years. After that point, I have absolutely no idea what I want to do. I could go be a lawyer for the rest of my life, but I can’t see myself actually doing that. I could find myself in politics, but I don’t really want to do that. I could teach law, but god knows I haven’t got the patience to teach. I do not know what I want to do. And as someone who’s known her career since she was 8, that’s a really hard thing for me to deal with. I’m trying to understand that I can study what I want and not know where it will take me, and that I can find out what I’m going to do later. I’m scared of my future. That was really rambly and didn’t have a point but if anyone else feels like that I hope they don’t feel alone now.

this video is so necessary! I've been spiralling so much about career paths and "wasting my life", that I didn't realise that I already was wasting my life. This was a good reminder to just enjoy life and to turn that uncertainty into excitement and opportunity!

This is probably the video our generation needs to see daily. With YT being saturated with videos such as "how I make 6 figures as 22 year old" "what my 10 streams of income are" we get caught up thinking that going the "normal" path of having a 9-5 job, working in retail or whatever it may be is not and cannot be good enough/rewarding that we are being slaves etc. I really believe that watching videos of that sort can take a serious tool on people in their 20s or even younger. I have been feeling this so intensely for the past month. I started my first job out of college and before graduating I realized I dont have a degree that allows me to easily pivot. I started a youtube channel earlier this year when I realized that. It has been the biggest motivator for me since school has finished and is providing so much more value and happiness than climbing the singular path allowed within the industry I work in.
I REALLY needed to hear this. I started my own business in the digital marketing field at 19, grew semi-successful and had to close it just under two years later due to deteriorating mental illness. I'm now eight months on, looking to rebuild my life and it's SO easy to take on the opinions of others about what people should be doing at 21 that trying to figure out what you want to do without having a life plan figured out seems almost wrong or contradictory. @@hakimpoetry Yeah...My father says "do something that'll give you a lot of cash" while my mother wants me to do whatever I want (but she's the one that's always asking what I want to do). I went through wanting to be a teacher, a doctor, a nurse and recently I've been thinking of becoming a psychologist (still not sure)... It really drives you insane. Tbh I don't think it's a good idea to think that you can only choose a career and that is the only think you'll do for the rest of your life. Conclusion: Don't follow a certain career just because your parents want you to. Do something you love and you'll always be happy while doing it ♥️

Jade and I are completely different people, our lives stories don't have anything in common, so the way we see and live in this world might be nothing alike. However, the more I watch her videos the more I find interesting takes in life, job and studies. There are times when I find myself thinking "mmm don't know if I agree" in the middle of a video, but instead of just closing it I stick to the end and learn something new. And that's awesome. Consuming something from a person so different allow me to know a whole new world. New perspectives, new ideas, new inspirations. When I saw this vids title I wondered if it would move me in any way, since all these career plans have been engraved in my mind. I guess I might even be afraid of thinking about them. I constantly feel so much pressure and am so often asked about my career plan that I just came up with something and keep repeating it. Listening to Jade made me re-evaluate not only my ideal career, but also the path I am walking right now. A video from someone with another background and studying a different field actually helped me think about my beliefs. For that I am extremely grateful.
Thank you so much for this video, in a couple of days I need to choose what subjects I want to study this year at university. At first I asked my parents' bosses opinion in what I should choose, but they chose subjects that I didn't like but were "important". After watching this video I'll just choose the ones I like and stop worrying about what people think is important for me to learn
Hi Jade, I agree with most of your arguments but the need for a fixed job comes from financial need. When one enters the 30s, then there are more responsibilities, kids, partner, etc and the need to have a stable career becomes ever more important.
I understand that at a certain point in life, stability is incredibly important but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for change or for growth. Always remain open minded and positive because you never know what opportunities life may present you with, even if you think you have found your ideal/dream/stable career 💛
This is exactly what I needed to hear, I'm sick of being asked what I want to do, like I don't know, I just wanna enjoy my life and learn along the way, but for ages I stressed about the fact I didn't know what I wanted to do.
I used to think like you but after seeing my friends do all these degrees that didn't automatically qualify them for anything, they worked odd jobs and then all went back to uni to retrain as teachers, nurses etc. I think young people need to be more realistic, the real world isn't as fun and dreamy as idealistic people make it out to be!
Doesnt the fact that they managed to graduate, work odd jobs, and then choose new paths align with what Jade is saying? I agree we do need to be realistic, but even if you have a 10 year plan and stick to it, its not certain for anyone, in any field, that itll go as you plan. So its all the same regardless.
As someone that can’t afford to splurge recourses here and there on education, I feel you, I need to plan at least a realistic path that will give me the higher probabilities of success
Solid points. This girl is very captivating with her perspective - I heard her explaining how the world is our oyster and my brain didn't even go, "huh. that's extremely idealistic and cliche, perhaps even naive" as I normally would. I like the idea of a tentative 4 year plan - I never understood for a second why people get English degrees when they could take the creative writing courses or whatever they're interested in, but fulfill the requirements for a really hire-able major so that they aren't lost once they graduate. Same with most other 'useless' degrees. For example, I (and many others) are fascinated by psychology and would love to study it; however, the actual future of someone who studies psychology (academia or clinician if you get a higher degree, working for a corporation or something random with a bachelors) isn't appealing. I would then take the psychology courses I'm interested in, and fulfill the requirements needed for a major that has a promising job market - maybe engineering if I'm a STEM person or business management if I'm not. In other words, I'm not opposed to this idealistic view of the world and studying whatever you want, figure out the job when you graduate and float until you find a passion - I just think that you should do all of these steps with a really solid back-up plan that won't make you totally miserable. Of course, that's for college - life paths out of high school can vary much differently. EDIT: Ah, shit. This girl just touched on this point in the last section of the video I didn't watch. Nevermind, she's chill.

Talking about Piveting, I m gonna be 20 this year and I graduated school in 2018 and have changed two courses up tol now because I have no clue what I want to do because I don’t want to be specified by this one thing or be restricted to this one thing. I too have such varied interests it’s annoying sometimes, I feel why can’t I be like everyone else. Have you ever wonder why is it that people like cleaners or low ranked jobs always looked down upon but without them literally there wouldnt be any functional society yet, their considered "key workers" and those workers always end up being the nicest people. honestly jobs are nothing but a status and I believe the nicer you are the more good will come your way and that's evident as people with less money or lower status are usually content with their life and that's what the riches of people constantly seek.
I'm not saying we all should be cleansers but just be nice and do what you like and live your life respectful to everyone I'm sure fortune will come your way.

i've found this to be so true. i'm 22, just finished a degree in middle eastern studies and now i work full-time as a librarian as well as doing freelance translation and english teaching on the side - none of these were my "dream careers", but u know what? i enjoy my life and what i do, i feel like i give value to the world and my community, i make enough money to live comfortably and i'm developing useful life and career skills. so i'm happy and ready to see what life throws at me in the coming years without really worrying about following any kind of traditional career path.

There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing - an actor, a writer - I am a person who does things - I write, I act - and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun." Here's to doing whatever whenever (as per what makes us happy) ❤️🙌.

Well all forms of "human science" and "sociology", even history departments are anyways. Unless you want to be a doctor or engineer, scientist stay away from colleges and learn actual real skills.
They manufacture drones for a dictatorship and establish a classist society where someone who studied painters and fallacies, useless cultist doctrine, self-employment serving overtheorized hogwash for 6 years gets paid more to fill out spreadsheets than someone who knows the business inside out and worked in it for years.
You see... The near entire college education complex save for the practical and technical fields have been hijacked by the goons of a maffia oligarchy for their extreme (left, anti-Whìte) agenda. There is no shred of merit there left but whatever they kept from actual scholars and critical thinkers in the past which they haven't removed yet out of agenda and bias.
You will find self-education about those topics far more rewarding, useful and educational. It is a money pit and unless you have no spine and are a rotten character you will find yourself disgusted and in waste of your time and effort.
Sadly these institutions are largely reduced to places where the regime can mine drones and where the "lefty" bourgeois aristocracy can network to distribute posts in the colonial exploitation of the people who actually build the country and keep it functional.
It's a parasite and maffia goon center. It's why they want to endlessly raise taxes so their amount of workposts and pay to persecute hardworking people in meaningful jobs can be ever increased.

Melissa T. i guess some ppl crave change in their life for many reasons and take different routes which may not solely be just about feeling like they’re running out of learning and hitting a dead end if that makes sense? hobbies are great, i guess some people aim for more and just feel unfulfilled, nothing wrong w hobbies tho! maybe depends on the person and nature of the job and the whole journey. like if someone has a whole plan mapped out and is currently in a different place, they just might feel unhappy doing the same thing, or are in a place they wanna be in but change and want to also change where they are, and learn more in a different area, in that sense? :)

I totally agree with you, but the only thing I don't like about this idea is the uncertainty that comes with it which adds to the anxiety I feel everyday thinking about my future. Also being a second generation immigrant and raised by a single mother doesn't help. I feel like I'm under constant pressure from my parents. They want to finally reap the fruits of their migration to Europe which was to secure a better future for their kids. Also seeing my mother struggle and work long hours to provide for my siblings and I , just adds to that pressure and feels like a countdown, I want to establish myself/career quickly so I can takeover and do my part as well.
If anyone would like to give some advice or/and add anything please do.
My advice to you is : don't let those things you mentioned hold you back immigrant! So what ? Look at Gary V , single mom! So what? I mean use those circumstances to push you and not hold you back .

My dad was from a single parent household, he came to this country and his father left him when he was 7. He had severe anxiety and depression but that didn’t stop him. Like Jade said in this video, take whatever job you’re doing and just work hard at it. My dad worked so hard and has been working his whole life, from helping his mum sew clothes so they could sell them and make ends meet. In the end, the last 10 years is when he started to really see money and that’s only because he took his job and worked so hard at it.
You asked for advice so I’d give you this, be a good person with everything you do, be the best employee you can be, always learn and ask yourself what can I do to improve (take constructive feedback and apply it) and choose something that you genuinely have a passion for so it can drive you.
The last advice I have is always have the right intention or strive to have it and continuously refresh it.
Just remember that your mental health and what YOU want to do is most important! (You can see it like this: your parents don’t benefit from you not doing what you like and a bad mental health for you, even if it seems like they want you to do a certain thing.) Take time for yourself, to have fun, to find your way; together with working hard and you can do anything
It's good advice but making ends meet is important.
I'm not from the same background, but if money is bothering you, start working a part time job. Having a little nest egg of savings will give you that financial freedom and independence when it comes to leaving home. (If you want to)
Also retail may be absolute hell but you gain all these "soft skills" employers want from you which basically boils down to "can you deal with a Karen successfully?" Karen's are everywhere; your boss, your customers, clients, a difficult situation etc.
You might not have a career or industry or selection of "I'm interested in X" picked out, but the good thing about a 9 - 5 is they are stable, easy jobs. So while you might be thinking "I hate This but Bill's" you can still look for other jobs and apply to as many as you want.
Real talk - I applied to 200 jobs after uni. I worked in fast food at about application 150 and then I started to get interviews. 10 interviews later and I was picked for 1 job. Soul destroying but necessary. Now I've worked for 3 years at 2 different 9 - 5s, I have more of an idea what I want to do. Let me tell you, I regret not going head first into media studies; practical application to what I ACTUALLY want to do with my life. Instead I did the "equally useless" ancient history degree.
So... do what you want, but like... you on a day to day basis. You in 10 years time who won't look back and go "well that was a waste" and weekend you - do they have a good time?
Welllll, I prayed to God (Jesus) for guidance and He revealed it to me. Also, your purpose transcends any discipline/career. There’s more to life than work. You’ll find the career for you. Don’t worry. I also recommend looking at what you’re naturally gifted in. That also helped w/ my decision.

Shouldn’t we be striving to be better in every aspect of our lives, and doesn’t that also apply to our careers? As an international student in the US, I definitely feel a little boxed in by the fact that we can only do internships “related” to our career because I have a million different things I want to try out! I'm probably going to do a video like that on my channel soon, so that will probably be much more in-depth, but I honestly would say it's not really worth it, especially with everything going on right now. I was lucky to get a scholarship though so I'm not spending as much money as I would be otherwise. I guess the exception is if you're attending one of those really well-known unis like Harvard or Stanford, and even then, those can be really expensive if you're not able to get financial aid. Definitely don't restrict yourself to only applying to colleges in the US though! I did that and I really do not recommend it. I always told my children that the world is changing so fast that you never know what you actually will do in later life. You just should get a lot of broad knowledge, and build on that in your work life.

I'm 25 as well.. and i just been lost and stressing about trying to accomplish something by the time I'm 30. I feel so behind in life since I haven't even went to college or have a good job. :/
while this is very uplifting, i'd like to add an additional variable to keep in mind: employers are still mostly members of previous generation(s), and thus abide by those 'unspoken rules'
(i.e. they use them to find ways of underpaying their staff; that's why it still is problematic to want to shift your career - if you're young, they assume you're inexperienced and you get paid less, if you're older and have an impressive resume, they claim you're overqualified and are reluctant to hire you bc it'd cost them too much)
it's problematic because you see it as problematic. i'm 19 and i recently got a remote job in berlin which allows me to travel europe whenever i want whilst working. next year, i might do a journalism traineeship in london, or work as a bartender, or just save the money i make and travel and volunteer, or i could freelance, or i could go to university. i promise you that there are opportunities all around you if you're acc capable of thinking outside the box. lots n lots of people go through diff careers in their lives and so can you if you want x
@@heidihenftling1427 hey, that's great, i'm very happy for you!! but surely you do realize that that's more of an exception than a rule. and what you've described sounds really fun, but you also have to consider boring practical things (i.e. necessary evils) such as pension plans and credit scores and healthcare benefits, which are still lacking in less stable or more nontraditional jobs (as well as some entry level positions) - that's one of the reasons why many people really cannot afford to think like that (long term), especially those not from first world countries, or who don't come from money (or immigrants), it requires a certain kind of privilege that remains unchecked for most people who have it (which is probs why i took an issue with that point jade made).

Dear Jade, I met you in UA-cam a few months ago and i am so grateful that I once clicked on a video of yours. You show me that the world is not just about school, but life is about family, being happy and having fun in life. Your videos give me motivation and I start to believe in myself, something I've never done. I have always been a very quiet girl, and had become very depressed for a while because I always wanted to get very high marks at school, but that was so wrong, of course school is important and it opens doors for the future, but what is a future without being happy. Being happy is the key to the door of the future. Thanks Jade for the self-love, for the motivation, for the comfort, but what i am most grateful for is that i feel so happy after watching your videos. I hate this question too. I was applying to different scholarships this year for uni and most had questions like what do you see yourself doing in 5,10 years etc. I literally just made up as if I had this definite plan when I know that I have no idea if that will be what I will be doing. People assume that if you don’t have this plan in place then you obviously aren’t motivated and driven so you would just waste the scholarship or drop out half way through uni etc. I have never been a goal driven person and I always found it weird when people would ask me what my goal was for results etc because my attitude was always just to do as well as I could and put in my full effort. I feel like having a goal to get a specific result in a subject for example can put like a cap on what you think you can achieve or make you feel like you should have done more when you couldn’t have. Can’t control the outcome only the process. I know I’ll be working hard and trying to make the best choices along the way but how could I possibly know what the outcome of that work will be in 5 or 10 years?

Pregi Kumary Especially as I know so many people who decided what they wanted to do when they were very young and just stuck to it and never questioned it who ended up having a crisis after starting uni and realising they didn’t actually like it at all. I feel like it’s better to be constantly questioning and only making short term plans recognising that things may change once you know more information

This is just what I needed. I've made a lot of changes in my life over the last year and recently I started to ask myself if it was all worth it.
I switched from science-expended (chemistry, bio, maths) curriculum to the humanities. In my country we're being made to choose what we want to study at really young age, with few occasions to modify it on the way, and after three years of crazy amount of science I wasn't sure whether I'd keep up with humanities. It turned out to be actually too easy for me, since I am naturally more talented in that area and was used to very demanding program.
Then, during this year, my ambition somehow died? I just stopped caring whatsoever. I used to be an academic level student, scoring at top places in various competitions, mostly in polish (my mothertongue), history and maths. But this year I let myself do nothing except what was mandatory.
I kept up my good grades, solid façade, but I wasn't doing anything else. I lost all my passions.
I was meant to study polish, but realized it does not have a future. I used to love history, now I loathe it (that one is my new teacher's fault). I am interested in languages but that too isn't what I want to do in life. Especially after an exam I took today in which my English appeared to be not as good as I thought it was.
Lately a friend asked me if I'm set on studying abroad. And god, if I don't even know WHAT to study, how I am supposed to know WHERE?
I'm starting to give up my last passion left: writing. I don't know what I will do with nothing to hold onto.
But that's fine, you just gave me a ray of sunshine and maybe soon I will see the full sun through the current storm clouds.

Life is meant to be lived, it's meant to be fun, we must learn far beyond what is taught inside any institution. Setting a solid plan for yourself will close so many doors, will turn you away from so many amazing opportunities. It creates disappointment if you're not always exactly where you planned to be. Not everything you do in life has to work towards money or stability. Doing things that make you happy, going outside your comfort zone, giving yourself a break; these things are just as productive. There are many things to learn from this world, but most importantly you must learn about yourself. Everything will fall into place if you follow the path that you least expect. :)
Not knowing what to do honestly gives me so much anxiety each day. My uni pressures us to do all this work experience yet I just don’t even know what sector to go into as nothing is inspiring me... I just want to be happy doing something, not just working for some moraless company who don’t value me :( just feel so worthless and lost!

I hear what you’re saying! But maybe work experience will teach you new skills and values and also what you don’t what to do. You may meet people there who give you a new perspective.
Doing work experience will never hurt you. You're not committing to a career, just gaining valuable experience which will be good on your CV. Even if what you apply for in the future is in a different sector; employers will look for people that have worked a day in their lives.

This is so so reassuring. You are 100% correct in saying that our paths do not line up with past generations. Ofc they chose a career path and stuck with it, they didn't know about all the other stuff out there. It's been this stuck mindset for so long and it makes me so so happy to hear you say that we have the freedom to try new things.
ever since I was 8 I have wanted to study law. I still want to study law and I just got into my degree. I’m currently working in a supermarket, it’s not pleasant but I try my best everyday. To be a qualified lawyer where I’m studying, I need to study for 6 years. After that point, I have absolutely no idea what I want to do. I could go be a lawyer for the rest of my life, but I can’t see myself actually doing that. I could find myself in politics, but I don’t really want to do that. I could teach law, but god knows I haven’t got the patience to teach. I do not know what I want to do. And as someone who’s known her career since she was 8, that’s a really hard thing for me to deal with. I’m trying to understand that I can study what I want and not know where it will take me, and that I can find out what I’m going to do later. I’m scared of my future. That was really rambly and didn’t have a point but if anyone else feels like that I hope they don’t feel alone now.
I so agree with this!! Challenging this model with my degree, business and everything... We need to learn how to adapt and challenge and innovate

This is probably the video our generation needs to see daily. With YT being saturated with videos such as "how I make 6 figures as 22 year old" "what my 10 streams of income are" we get caught up thinking that going the "normal" path of having a 9-5 job, working in retail or whatever it may be is not and cannot be good enough/rewarding that we are being slaves etc. I really believe that watching videos of that sort can take a serious tool on people in their 20s or even younger. I have been feeling this so intensely for the past month. I started my first job out of college and before graduating I realized I dont have a degree that allows me to easily pivot. I started a youtube channel earlier this year when I realized that. It has been the biggest motivator for me since school has finished and is providing so much more value and happiness than climbing the singular path allowed within the industry I work in.

I REALLY needed to hear this. I started my own business in the digital marketing field at 19, grew semi-successful and had to close it just under two years later due to deteriorating mental illness. I'm now eight months on, looking to rebuild my life and it's SO easy to take on the opinions of others about what people should be doing at 21 that trying to figure out what you want to do without having a life plan figured out seems almost wrong or contradictory. But I think you're right--it's rare that anybody knows what they want to do. Even my business was the result of luck as opposed to something I wanted to do for life. Super inspiring to hear about the story of the person from Minerva--really puts into perspective that you don't have to do everything overnight to be considered a success!

@@hakimpoetry Yeah...My father says "do something that'll give you a lot of cash" while my mother wants me to do whatever I want (but she's the one that's always asking what I want to do). I went through wanting to be a teacher, a doctor, a nurse and recently I've been thinking of becoming a psychologist (still not sure)... It really drives you insane. Tbh I don't think it's a good idea to think that you can only choose a career and that is the only think you'll do for the rest of your life.
Conclusion: Don't follow a certain career just because your parents want you to. Do something you love and you'll always be happy while doing it ♥️

Jade and I are completely different people, our lives stories don't have anything in common, so the way we see and live in this world might be nothing alike. However, the more I watch her videos the more I find interesting takes in life, job and studies. There are times when I find myself thinking "mmm don't know if I agree" in the middle of a video, but instead of just closing it I stick to the end and learn something new. And that's awesome. Consuming something from a person so different allow me to know a whole new world. New perspectives, new ideas, new inspirations. When I saw this vids title I wondered if it would move me in any way, since all these career plans have been engraved in my mind. I guess I might even be afraid of thinking about them. I constantly feel so much pressure and am so often asked about my career plan that I just came up with something and keep repeating it. Listening to Jade made me re-evaluate not only my ideal career, but also the path I am walking right now. A video from someone with another background and studying a different field actually helped me think about my beliefs. For that I am extremely grateful.

Thank you so much for this video, in a couple of days I need to choose what subjects I want to study this year at university. At first I asked my parents' bosses opinion in what I should choose, but they chose subjects that I didn't like but were "important". After watching this video I'll just choose the ones I like and stop worrying about what people think is important for me to learn

Hi Jade, I agree with most of your arguments but the need for a fixed job comes from financial need. When one enters the 30s, then there are more responsibilities, kids, partner, etc and the need to have a stable career becomes ever more important.
I understand that at a certain point in life, stability is incredibly important but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for change or for growth. Always remain open minded and positive because you never know what opportunities life may present you with, even if you think you have found your ideal/dream/stable career 💛
This is exactly what I needed to hear, I'm sick of being asked what I want to do, like I don't know, I just wanna enjoy my life and learn along the way, but for ages I stressed about the fact I didn't know what I wanted to do.
I used to think like you but after seeing my friends do all these degrees that didn't automatically qualify them for anything, they worked odd jobs and then all went back to uni to retrain as teachers, nurses etc. I think young people need to be more realistic, the real world isn't as fun and dreamy as idealistic people make it out to be!
Doesnt the fact that they managed to graduate, work odd jobs, and then choose new paths align with what Jade is saying? I agree we do need to be realistic, but even if you have a 10 year plan and stick to it, its not certain for anyone, in any field, that itll go as you plan. So its all the same regardless.

Solid points. This girl is very captivating with her perspective - I heard her explaining how the world is our oyster and my brain didn't even go, "huh. that's extremely idealistic and cliche, perhaps even naive" as I normally would.
I like the idea of a tentative 4 year plan - I never understood for a second why people get English degrees when they could take the creative writing courses or whatever they're interested in, but fulfill the requirements for a really hire-able major so that they aren't lost once they graduate.
Same with most other 'useless' degrees. For example, I (and many others) are fascinated by psychology and would love to study it; however, the actual future of someone who studies psychology (academia or clinician if you get a higher degree, working for a corporation or something random with a bachelors) isn't appealing. I would then take the psychology courses I'm interested in, and fulfill the requirements needed for a major that has a promising job market - maybe engineering if I'm a STEM person or business management if I'm not.
In other words, I'm not opposed to this idealistic view of the world and studying whatever you want, figure out the job when you graduate and float until you find a passion - I just think that you should do all of these steps with a really solid back-up plan that won't make you totally miserable.
Of course, that's for college - life paths out of high school can vary much differently.

Talking about Piveting, I m gonna be 20 this year and I graduated school in 2018 and have changed two courses up tol now because I have no clue what I want to do because I don’t want to be specified by this one thing or be restricted to this one thing. I too have such varied interests it’s annoying sometimes, I feel why can’t I be like everyone else. Some friends stopped being in touch ( talk about 20 year old mid life crisis from last video) because those fixed mindset peeps thought I m doing nothing which might be true on the exterior. It’s sucks and makes me so anxious...but I know we will get where we belong.

Have you ever wonder why is it that people like cleaners or low ranked jobs always looked down upon but without them literally there wouldnt be any functional society yet, their considered "key workers" and those workers always end up being the nicest people. honestly jobs are nothing but a status and I believe the nicer you are the more good will come your way and that's evident as people with less money or lower status are usually content with their life and that's what the riches of people constantly seek.
I'm not saying we all should be cleansers but just be nice and do what you like and live your life respectful to everyone I'm sure fortune will come your way.
