I have to say, the idea of a softlock that has a really hard to find/RNG the solution to is kind of neat. Like you give a person this save and tell them "Okay. Now escape."
I don't know which softlock is more evil. Letting a 10 year old get caught in the volcano's eruption on Cinnabar Island, releasing a shiny Hariyama or trading a shiny Poliwhirl?
i had the same thought, that you only get the flute until after you get to sootopolis and battle the box legendary. however, even if you can't fly out of there, it's impossible to softlock. you can spend all your money and throw away all your (non-key/tm) items, but there's a solution that's pretty easy to forget... you can get items from super training, like evolution stones, and then sell them for the money to buy pokeballs. there's no way to make it impossible to use super training (as far as i know) so softlocking when you have access to a mart is impossible in gen 6. it makes me wonder though... would it be possible to softlock yourself on the east side of sootopolis, once you have access to it but before all the stuff with the legendary battle and the eon flute? the mart's on the other side, so you could probably just do everything the same as in this video and it'd work...

@@wickederebus Let me give an example. If you metronome counter but you are faster, it will always fail. If you metronome sketch, you lose the move metronome. Those are just 2 examples but I hope you get the idea.
Besides itself, the moves that Metronome can't pick in Gen III are Counter, Covet, Destiny Bond, Detect, Endure, Focus Punch, Follow Me, Helping Hand, Mimic, Mirror Coat, Protect, Sketch, Sleep Talk, Snatch, Struggle, Thief, and Trick. Aeroblast and Sacred Fire can be used with Metronome, and Mewtwo didn't have a signature move yet.
I just realized... For softlock picking, you used the abbreviation SLP In Pokémon The abbreviation is used for sleep When asleep, you cannot do anything except wait it out. (Well, other than moves like sleeptalk or switching but shhh that’s not the point) Clever... very very clever...
This whole series feels like it could be some contest thing, it would be interesting if you somehow managed to set up in multiple GBAs, and have a bunch of players in room trying to figure out the puzzle.
I think that it'd be interesting to set up one of your trapped scenerios in a twitch plays setting, and seeing how long it would take them to escape, if they ever do.
Ooh, that sounds fun! Imagine doing the Caterpie video where you have to check in over 200 days in a row just to pick the Gen 2 equivalent of a Rawst Berry, though...
There are few things more impressive in this world than just how good Pikasprey is at thoroughly preventing himself from succeeding. Therapists have words for qualities like that. I choose to call it exemplary.
There are 17 moves in addition to Metronome that can't be selected in Gen 3, so it's actually 1/336. Other than that, it's a pretty good trap when move tutoring Metronome onto your Mewtwo... in a different Pokemon game... is the only way out.
M3rtyville Technically you can manipulate odds in Emerald too but it’s much harder and is actually an exploit. However in the other games you are correct.
When you started talking about certain moves, I figured you were going for Thief. Turns out Mewtwo can't even learn Thief. You learn something new every day.
I have no clue why. But these videos are some of the best sleep help videos I use. I've never even played a pokemon game before and yet here I am, using a video on how to trap yourself on an island with the most powerful pokemon.
‘Hey you see that kid there with the mewtwo?’ ‘Yeah’ ‘Why hasn’t he beat tate and liza yet?’ ‘Oh they’re just scared shitless by the mewtwo and are using any excuse they can to not fight it’
When you brought up using Metronome for Pay Day, I was actually guessing you'd want to get Covet/Thief to steal wild held items while fishing. Then I realized there's nothing you can steal from the fishing pokemon since they don't hold anything.

When you talked about the chances of Metronome using pay day. You said it was a 1/353 Chance When it's really a 1/336 chance because in Generation 3, 17 moves can't be used by metronome.
Thank you.
joseph bagels Defensive moves can’t be used right?
Lol you just fact check him. That's funny to me.
So its a 1/112896 chance to get two pay days sequentially. or ~0.00088577%.

I mean, even so...
I'd still keep it, ROM or not.
Haven't ever found a shiny Pokémon myself.
I found a shiny zubat on a rom once.
Also didn't expect this many likes.
I don't know which softlock is more evil. Letting a 10 year old get caught in the volcano's eruption on Cinnabar Island, releasing a shiny Hariyama or trading a shiny Poliwhirl?
Just a quick note on your point about the eon flute...you get it after beating the mosdeep gym
IMMA BOUT TO END THIS TRAINERS WHOLE CAREER
Mmmmm... that's some tasty irony.
this is making me want to see if i can do it.
i had the same thought, that you only get the flute until after you get to sootopolis and battle the box legendary.
however, even if you can't fly out of there, it's impossible to softlock. you can spend all your money and throw away all your (non-key/tm) items, but there's a solution that's pretty easy to forget...
you can get items from super training, like evolution stones, and then sell them for the money to buy pokeballs. there's no way to make it impossible to use super training (as far as i know) so softlocking when you have access to a mart is impossible in gen 6.
it makes me wonder though... would it be possible to softlock yourself on the east side of sootopolis, once you have access to it but before all the stuff with the legendary battle and the eon flute? the mart's on the other side, so you could probably just do everything the same as in this video and it'd work...
This is the soft lockpicking Lawyer and what I have for you today is.

What's that from?
pikaspray is basically the ramset gun tbh
I know it's just because the camera centers on the player, but the match cut from standing in the gym with the look of death to gazing over the ocean is completely masterful in conveying the empty desperation of this soft lock

The odds of metronome rolling payday are a bit higher than you think! Gen 3 has 18 unselectable moves which only makes it 1/336 😂
What are the 18 unselectable moves?
@@tofuuuuuuuuuuuuu Moves that cannot be selected by metronome because they either "break" the game or will always fail.
I'd guess it to be the signature moves of Legends.

(Did Mewtwo have it's signature move yet?)
??
You literally have a space station in Mossdeep, get on a damn space shuttle, and leave the planet. Duh.
God I know that was a throwaway shiny but watching it get released melted me
I just realized...
For softlock picking, you used the abbreviation SLP
In Pokémon The abbreviation is used for sleep

The MAGNIFICENT Kipper! Awakening
Sleep talk, Snore, Full Heal, Hard Swapping...
A bit tenuous, but yeah kinda cool
kind of a stretch tbh
Illuminati confirmed
Would this be a true softlock if done in Pacifidlog instead of Mossdeep? There's no mart in which to buy a pokeball, nor is there any of the rods.
That might work. But you'll have to remember not to get any of the rods, in case there's a wild pokemon that has a chance of carrying a pokeball.
@@charlotteshenkenberger345 Not getting the rods was assumed from the criteria Pikasprey outlined about a minute into the video.

There are 17 moves in addition to Metronome that can't be selected in Gen 3, so it's actually 1/336. Other than that, it's a pretty good trap when move tutoring Metronome onto your Mewtwo... in a different Pokemon game... is the only way out.
