Sounds really good. That blade looks like it has pushed somethings that it probably shouldn't have lol. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! We here in NY have members of our fire dept. Now employed in Lexington County fire dept. S.C. Anyway I'm having problems finding the hydraulic filter for the same dozer as yours. I do have the service manuals but no filter #, could you please assist me and share what hydraulic oil, and filter. Thank you. Dennis from NCFD.

They've sat. Plan to get back to it now that lumber prices are coming back down. 👍🏻

The diesel engine in this tractor (IH D188), was very experimental. In particular, it featured “low pressure injection”. Those of you with basic gasoline/diesel engine understanding, know that the exact time of fuel/air combustion is controlled on a gas engine by setting the ignition spark to ignite the fuel just a few degrees before piston top dead center. On a diesel engine, the time of ignition is controlled by setting the exact time of fuel injection through the fuel injectors (also a few degrees before piston top dead center). For some insane reason, IH decided that they could inject diesel fuel into the intake airstream as the piston was sucking air into the engine (just as a gasoline carburetor does). This resulted in a fuel/air mixture sitting on top of the piston as it started up on the compression stroke. They must have thought that combustion would magically occur at exactly the right time (just before top dead center). However, on very hot days, when a lot of natural heat was in the air, the air/fuel mix would reach combustion temperature long before the piston was nearing top dead center. So as the crank was trying to push the piston up, combustion was trying to push it down. This resulted in very high cylinder pressures that in turn resulted in cracked heads, blown head gaskets, broken head bolts, etc, etc. The engine was a nightmare for IH, and was quickly dropped. There has been no “low pressure injection” nonsense since. Bad idea. The supply of used heads has completely dried up. IH quit servicing this dngine decades ago. You’ll wind up looking for the IH gas engine replacement, but good luck on that. There are multiple bell housing patterns, and only one fits.

Been an IH mechanic for years…from what I can see, the nozzles look like same glow plug, precup head as the more common D236 & D282 used.
Don’t see anything to make me think fuel is delivered to the intake manifold?

Where do you get your parts ? Looking at picking one up but needs some tlc and it is also just the t340 not the diesel motor.

If this was my crawler I'd fit a Kubota engine with a turbo of comparable size in the machine an no more ih engine problems sourcing parts.

I haven’t done much with this crawler. Bought new friction material for the steer brakes, but haven’t installed it yet. Need to get 3 of the 5 cylinders rebuilt.
