Every Time you talk about your past, I'm just in awe of how far you have come, not only you have a job where you can at least do what you love, even if live as a UA-cam Broadcaster isn't that easy, AND you are able to sustain and support a family with it. You have my deepest respect. ALSO KOTOR I and II are part of my all time best video game list. I love Star Wars, I love DND, I love games from BioWare so for me, it was a match made in heaven. I even have to admit, that I like KOTOR II more, for the sake of it's characters and a Story which tried to achieve the Same Thing as The Last Jedi, but with a far better conduit (Kreia).
Playing KoTOR again on my iPhone and I can say despite of its aged graphics, it is still one of the best RPG of all time.

Soldier is only the easiest class on Taris, that is before you get to choose your jedi class. But if you are familiar with the game and are ready for a slightly harder beginning every choice is viable and leads to interesting possibilities later. Your class choice will also affect your companion choices so the game is extremely replayable.
It's one of the better choices if you want to use blasters after you become a jedi

I've done this game countless time and everytime I'm discovering new ways to do things, may it be little details or quest outcome that change because you've done (or not) something before. Truly a Gem.
You should try the romances of Carth and Bastila, it may change your regard on them since it add a lot of depth.

Just finished the game and my god.... one of the best game ive ever played. Im onto kotor 2 now.
I remember playing this in 1st grade back in the day. Had no clue about the D&D ruleset ofc but had a blast doing crazy shit in the galaxy. I am 20 now and still play it to this day
I haven't played KOTOR since MASS EFFECT came out. I've been playing it on switch, and it's so clear to see where the inspiration for ME came from. In many regards I consider KOTOR to be better
I was 13 when this came out, barely understanding english so I used a dictionary :-p it was so fresh to see star wars like this, played it like 6 times. Im superbiased of cource but this was a masterpiece to me. Good times

Watching your video and wanted to leave a comment on KOTOR’s canonical status. KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2, and SWTOR are all a part of Legends continuity. This is the canon timeline that existed prior to 2014 (a LF in-house decision). They are not considered canon to the newer continuity, however Legends is still an officially supported and sanctioned continuity by the LF Storygroup.
My main reason for saying this is because Leland Chee (Keeper of the Holocron/Loremaster and member of the Storygroup) has made comments regarding how Legends continuity is treated on Twitter. It is still recorded when new Legends content is produced (a small amount does do so) and LF still makes a distinction between in-continuity Legends content and non-continuity Legends content.
Great review! This is my favorite game of all time. I played it when it released on Xbox and revisited last year with just as much love.

I made it out of teris on level 4. It takes a lot of scheming with the battles and what not, but yeah, by end game I was a god. Now ima go do another playthrough.

This was this game that started it all for me. Its how I found out about DnD and crpgs like neverwinter, baulder's gate, and darklands and just love for older games in general. Those games are far more complex but kotor kept it simple but deep enough to prepare me for those games. Such a great game and great review.
The simple diametric moral choice system in this game is why I prefer KOTOR2 over KOTOR.
Short answer on the canon for Star Wars is that Star Wars is actually split into two separate continuities. The original continuity is now called "Legends" and went from 1976-April 2014. This comprises essentially everything released from that time period including KOTOR. The Old Republic is also set in the Legends continuity since it came out in 2011 or 2012 (I don't remember the exact year) when Legends was current. So KOTOR is "canon" to the Legends continuity. When it launched in 2003 that was the only Star Wars continuity.
In April 2014 Star Wars rebooted. This is the current continuity. They kept episodes 1-6 and The Clone Wars cartoon but tossed out everything else. Nowadays people just call the current continuity "canon" which is kind of confusing. Episodes 7-9 and essentially any video games, novels, etc. released since 2014 are in this current "canon" continuity. So KOTOR did not happen in the current canon if that makes sense.

revan is cannon . he was brought back from legends status actually from the rise of skywalker with the introduction of the red looking storm troopers which was listed as unit revan . disney also listed that the kyber crystal in kylo rens lightsaber is spose to be the same crystal of revans lightsaber . and if you take a look of kylo ren his design was inspired by the character darth revan .
Still adore these game even years later. Great to see such a balanced, fair review that's not gushing with praise for anything Bioware does, and explores the game's downsides, but also isn't overly critical for the sake of being critical and recognises the game's many strengths.
The trick about 'exploiting' the game's mechanics by saving your skills up until you gain access to Jedi powers is well-known and I guess many people do that as they wish to min/max the game, but I can't bring myself to do it as it just seems kind of cheesy - even character-breaking from an RP perspective.
I do agree about the choices being very extreme - either 'save the burning orphanage or stab a kitten in the face' kind of affairs'. I guess Bioware were still finding their ground here, and they became far more subtle in later games. To be fair a lot of BG1 and 2 choices could be a little bit like this.
To tell the truth not only feats but also skill points matter in this game and your starting action.
Soldier is ok to start out as but if you want to fight Jedi Guardian will be much better in the end so Soldier 2-4/Jedi Guardian 16-18 would probably be better than going many levels into a soldier.
Scout 4/Jedi Sentinel 16 was my build for the light side because of all the free immunities + free Implant and Implant level 2 feats and great saves and Flurry.
For dark side I just went with Scout 2/Jedi Consular 18 for all that sweet sweet powers as maxed out Force Push will make anyone lay on the ground and after that you can do maxed out force lightning until they die.
Edit: Thinking more about it I think 4 levels of Scout is the best base for any build. You go 4 Scout/16 any Jedi type you want.
4 Scout levels gives you: +4 to all saves, 6 Feats (3 for you to pick + Implant level 1 and level 2 and Uncanny Dodge), a bunch of skills and skill points and Flurry (1 extra attack each round). The only thing you lose is that you get 8 hp/level and 3/4 BAB so at level 4 it would be 8 hp less and 1 BAB less than a soldier for 2 more feats and +3 to reflex and +3 will saves and all the extra skills and skillpoints.
Flurry is best. Critical Strike can also be good but you have to build exactly for that and follow special combinations of items while Flurry will work with anything and 1 extra attack is great for the whole game.
Never played it either and now I don't know if I play it or if I wait for the remake...
I hope at some point you do a review of KOTOR 2 as well.

It's been a while but I use Shadowplay usually, and in the rare cases that doesnt work I use screen capture with OBS
You should do the second game now but you *MUST* download the tslrcm mod even better if you use tslrcm + m4 78 mod.
I'm going through it now, it's my understanding that the steam version has the sith Lord stuff in game

KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2 and SWTOR are cannon and Disney’s Star Wars isn’t or at least it is in our heads lol also I pick the Scout bc around mid ways of the game the Scout becomes crazy OP especially if combined with Jedi Guardian but really IMO the scout is already OP except for literally right at the start but once you get some solid gear and a good implant they become great or it at least seems that way for me plus it gives you a little wiggle room with your skills if you wanna be even more versatile combine the Scout with Jedi Sentinel

Judging by your footage of this game, i'm assuming you didn't use a widescreen fix. I wanted to use it but honestly i don't trust these third party softwares that they recommend in most guides i've seen. But did you use it or are they safe to use? I just wanted your opinion on this. This is not a deal breaker for me but it would be nice to play this game at higher resolutions.
They're safe to use, I just usually prefer to keep the original aspect ratio on older games unless they widescreen is officially supported

Fun fact, I didnt understand KOTOR's gear/stat system at all. It was totally foreign to me since I had never seen anything like it. As a result, I gave up on it. Some time later, and with a wider variety of games under my belt, Baldurs Gate EE was released on console and I played the hell out of it. Then I thought, huh...where have I seen this stat system before? Oh yeah....that star wars game. Ill go back and give that a try. Once I understood the system it was much easier to understand what stats did what and I started having fun.

@@radicalcentrist4990 Never underestimate how slow I can be when playing RPGs. People kept telling me that Tyranny was a 25-30 hour game. For me, it took ~70 hours.
@@radicalcentrist4990 Partly it's because I talked to every NPC and read slowly. Partly it's because I spent way too much time fiddling with equipment. Parlty it's because I started most combats by putting everyone in stealth, sneaking them to a good position, then having them all use their abilities (and also I micromanage a lot in combat).

I wish I was as smart as you so I can enjoy those CRPG games like you. I become completely paralyzed with the amount of choices and the freedom of quest progression in games like divinity original sin 2.
You don't need to be 'smart' to play these games. If you're stressed about it just pick a build and stick to it. Focus on their core strengths and you'll be able to manage most games like this no problem. Worst case just google a 'best build' for the game and you're set. There's a lot of great stories in these games so don't let the numbers scare you away. Just play them, usually it's the early game that's the hardest bit, pass it and you'll fly through the rest enjoying the story!
@@darrenprice1267 I’m currently playing wasteland 3 and had to use the antique appraisal thing to rake in lots of cash. When I tried playing Divinity original sin 2, I had no idea where to go with the vague quest descriptions it was infuriating and you honestly need to be smart af to beat that game on your own. I couldn’t figure out where to find certain things or how to sequence quest order. Maybe that’s just me. I have had no problem figuring out what to do in wasteland 3, divinity original sin 2 felt like a never ending blind treasure hunt and I got about 30 hours into the game
Since you didnt like clishe companions and light dark side extrimes of this game i highly recomend kotor 2, its much more of a deconstruction than what 1 was.
Also expands on incababilities of jedi and sith quite a bit, to a point one could consider it a star wars herasy.

I think reviewing and recommending really old titles on their current merits compared to modern games is a bit off. KotOR was a grand title when it came out. Its technology and such should be compared to games of that era.
I disagree, tons of old review that are relevant to the time, I think it is wise to stay relevant now.

One of my best gaming experiences. But few years ago decide to try it agen on a phone. Even on a phone where I don't expect much, it was far too outdated game mechanics- felt boring and unplayable
