Mimir clarifies the type of person Sif was, and how she and Thor raised Magni and Modi in the past, as opposed to how Sif and Thor tried to raise Thrud in the present.
I'm not entirely sure it works that way. Neither Thor nor Modi died in battle. Thor had just been defeated in battle and was not in a fight when Odin killed him. Modi also died while not in battle. He was just straight-up murdered. You only go to Valhalla and reunite with Warriors from your family when you die in battle. Which means Magni is in Valhalla but unfortunately both of them may be in Helheim...
I really like that detail. Sif's anger at Atreus and motivating Thor to attack him really captures that past versions of themselves. I actually kind of feel bad for Magni and Modi now. That romanticized memory she invokes to anger him depicts that maybe they could have been decent Gods. Like how Atreus turned into a little punk in 2018 game. Kratos had to learn how to parent to reign him in and teach him a better way.
Honestly, I'm surprised that the game didn't have Sif demand blood payment from Atreus after Odin was going to let Heimdalls death slide. Atreus being forced into a boss battle against Sif would've been absolutely incredible. And by the end Atreus could've thrown all of her shitty parenting right in her face. Hell, he could've given the impression that he was going to cut off her long flowing golden hair (a nod to the original myth) as blood payment for the Aesir committing gynecide on the Joten, only to spare her saying "I already took your son. I'd say that's blood payment enough." That would've been a far better way for Loki to part with Asgard and given Sif the reason for her change of heart at the end of the game. Atreus then could've handed over Freyers magic sword and just quietly told Odin. "My father would've shown mercy to Heimdall but we all know Heimdall was an asshole that would've kept goading him to kill him." Then, Odin could've said "Wait, Loki. The mask..." then Atreus leaves with Sindri's escape spell.
That is one of the parts where this game just falls flat for me, how Sif’s role in indirectly causing Ragnarok is just swept under the rug by the other characters, she noticeably forgets Magni death was in self defence and that her husband Thor is just as much responsible for Modi’s death as Atreus, perhaps even more so, she noticeably doesn’t apologise to Atreus later on for nearly getting him murdered or the actions of her family against his, and she certainly doesn’t bring any of this up in front of Kratos at the end, mostly because she no longer has her hammer happy husband around to kill people she doesn’t like for her anymore. I never got the sense that Sif actually regrets any of the decisions her people made under Odin’s rule, war with the Vanir, the extermination of the Giants, only the parts that negatively affected her family, even when the burning of Freyr is brought up, she denies any involvement in it only to then admit that she was there to see it happen, we know that this was one of the rare cases where Odin didn’t give anyone the order to do it, she was the Aesir’s ambassador and Thor’s wife, she could have said something and people would have listened to her, she must have known that doing this would have meant war and ultimately she did nothing.
i don't get it why Sif tells Thor to remember the time they told stories to Modi and Magni by the campfire, with what Mimir is telling us they were treated shit all their childhood
Sif and Thor, maybe Magni and Modi were very nice to them when they were very young, but after the age of 7, for example, they switched to a repressive training, completely conditioning them for war...or so I think...
Probably has something to do with Odin. Once they’re old enough to be useful or atleast start training to be, Odin likely was all the over the two. Since Thor was unable to stand up to his father, the two likely used drinking as a means to cope.
Modi was the one I didn't like. Honestly the way he talked about Atreus he came off like a pedo. "I get the kid right?!" Magni: "What is wrong with you?" You can't tell me that dialogue didnt come off as sus.
They did, a lot. Just look at how Sif talks about them to Thor in the cutscene where she tries to arrest Atreus. They were misguided by bad upbringings and a toxic belief of that strength, pleasure, and death was all there was. They raised them how they thought they should. They were misguided and still accountable for their actions, yes. But they loved them. Just in a horrid, misguided, and toxic way.

It's kind of sad what happened to thor and his sons but at least now there reunited
Too soon, dude

@@greatgatorgaming6024 good comment.
Not all drunken parents are drunken 100% of the time, even the worst ones could be good or kind often.
That's not at all abnormal in a dysfunctional family. You can have good days and good memories mixed in with the really bad and fucked days.

It's funny, Thor and Sif are vicious towards Atreus... when they're the one responsible for how they turned out.
