We went for a small forward line to create defensive pressure and it backfired badly. No defensive pressure at all. These guys showed no pressure Ryan Cripps Chesser Ledwards Jones Petch... That's six guys with no defensive pressure - no wonder we were thumped. Add to that Brockman usually as well...
@@BDub2024 we have players on the list from the old system that need moving on. Matthew Clarke will hopefully use that Richmond nous to pick up some random players that love to tackle like Bedford etc
@@jameshotchkin8438 I reckon a few players are on the brink... Rotham and Witherden are always mentioned. But Jones Petch and Ledwards are on borrowed time. Brockman has a year to get his act together. Then you have Sheed Darling and Gaff. Lastly, unlucky Burgiel who has done another hamstring. Will he become a rookie instead? There are a few guys having a laugh and just lack the intensity and consistency. Am I missing anyone? Six at least should go.
Fantastic assessment, will be an interesting game I hope. Maybe West Coast can get up for Waterman and Barrass. Unfortunately, historically milestone games do not go well. 💙💛🏆🦅
Freo have become a very hard team to play against. They can run and gun with the best of teams and then can flick a switch and chip the ball through zones while always going forward and the ball eventually lands with one of their elite kicks. If WC can't find a way to neutralise the ruck dominance it could get ugly. It is Freo however, and it would hardly surprise anyone who has been paying attention over the last few years if they drop their bundle in a game that they should win. It just might be this one.
Waterman 100🎉🎉🎉, If we can get English, it will attract more players like baker, Bolton and Warner. As example. Allowing us to become more of a hot spot for players, to want to travel home too over freo and staying at their club. Which would Fill in our lack of 24-29 year olds in their prime.
we won't get bolton or warner. won't get baker or graham either. probably won't get english. we just need to do lots of drafting and free up late picks for kids and some young mature players at the secondary leagues.
@@RedLightning64 We will struggle to attract free agents. That's the problem. We can't trade draft picks either. We only have 3 picks in the first 4 rounds next year. So I don't think w will have any alternative but to drop guys from list and pick up lots of kids.
Flynn is in the Ruck for the WAFL team which is interesting. We have 16 in the WAFL this week if all 3 emergencies play. Duggan back next week with Rotham probably due to make way. Starting to get a few back now which will hopefully be good for competition for spots. Witherden and Jones won't play again after being dropped today. Both out of contract this season. Not a good time to be dropped that's for sure.
flynn just isn't ready after his injuries. he is a long way back. We want to play JWilliams and we're desperate for defensive pressure (Darling). So you can't go for another tall and experiment with BWilliams in forward line again.
I would have thought Culley in the forward 50m as he can mark and put defensive pressure. But our forwards are just not doing enough in that area. So they've gone for Darling. I'd also think of other options as a defensive pressure forward. Even if a Cole or something different as an experiment.
Not bringing in Dewar is a bit of a missed opportunity, if you're going to go taller and bring Darling back, I would honestly prefer giving Archer Reid a debut. I agree with you in that it hardly feels like he earned his spot back, sure he was serviceable in his wafl game, but it was hardly overwhelming.
Eagles have a defence and a forward line. Though missing quality small forwards. It will be a match up in the middle. I suggest we will lose badly because of this midfield. Guys have been dropped, but the remaining are on borrowed time as well.
Walters and Pearce both are out with Emmett and Draper in this game reaks of an upset is what I would say if McGovern was in the lineup. Instead it was a loss
Fartmantle generally win games they don’t expect to eg swans, demons away and Brisbane. They lose games they should expect to win eg bulldogs, hawks, eagles. This game is a walk in for freo which plays into the eagles hands, eagles by 73 points. Harley to kick 10.
Three comments: 1) Freo need to finish in the top two to be a serious flag contender. I don't see that happening. 2) I'd rather Flynn than Darling 3) The less drewzy the better
the reason why is that you can't have Allen, JWilliams and BWilliams in the same forward line (which is what would happen if Flynn played in the ruck). Its either JWilliams or Bwilliams. We want to give games up forward to JWilliams. Our smalls were really bad with defensive pressure.
@@BDub2024 I was thinking rucks rotating off the bench, as I agree it's not ideal sending another tall forward. Do you think Bwilliams might be a trade chip or converted into a key back at the end of the year? We don't need more forwards and he isn't a ruck.
@@drdc22 I think they want JWilliams to develop ruckcraft. BWilliams can't become a key defender. JWilliams has more chance but he'll stay a forward. They want to reward BWilliams because of his unbelievable effort and commitment considering his size. And he is resilient and doesn't get injured. That's why Simmo tried him as an extra tall forward because he wanted to develop his forward play and reward him. But he kept JWilliams out. Schofield was right to go for a small forward line to create more defensive pressure and more pace and movement. But it backfired really badly with six smaller guys being really bad and that explained the thrashing really. I'm not convinced about Brockman but we really need Brockman Hewitt Long and Petch (if not delisted) to really be the small pressure forwards.

Darling is Top 5 Eagles of all time for tackles. That's why he is in the team. To improve the tackles inside 50.

Say what you want about Jack Darling but he does lay tackles. I predict he comes out makes a statment 2-3 goals ez

Freo have speed all over the ground and we’ve gone tall and slow. They are going to carve us up through the middle of the ground.

Not to sure how luke Edwards kept his spot…. And please for the love of god, don’t initiate contact in the ruck Williams 🙏🏽
Sorry but this will be an old fashion shellacking
Thoughts on Duggo - four more years?
he will be towards the end on 3 years. may end up a back pocket.

Lacks speed again
Land of the giants 😅
5x 190cm+ forwards 😥
Lets see you can score 3 goals a minute and roughly 30 minutes a quarter so that would be 360 goals if Fremantle is 100% accurate 😅 just kidding.
I hope that one day to the West coast Eagles will be just as successful as the Fremantle Dockers
