    Watching the Eagles has gotten that bad my interest in football and enjoying neutral games has almost disappeared completely. I now start every Eagles during the first quarter checking score updates on my phone and the start was a surprise, so a few minutes later I turned on the tv and 3 seconds later the Dockers kicked a goal. So I leave the room and come back to help with groceries and stand in front of the tv 4 seconds before halftime to see Fremantle kick another goal. The game then turned into that'd be right with a 3 goal lead to a 5 goal trailing, but 73-92 the score tells me on my phone, so a third time I dared to come watch the game on tv only to walk in the room and see Sean Darcy from the boundary centre the ball a Fremantle receiving a free kick 25 metres out directly in front. The score update said they kicked a goal and that was my 15 seconds of seeing Derby on tv. 15 seconds and 3 Dockers goals, I'm cursed and never watching the Eagles again!

    Rotham did kick the ball, and by doing so, turned the ball over in our back half twice, leading to two goals.

    Huge freo fan here, commented on your last derby video when you whacked us, saying something along the lines some of the kids showed their stuff, and again they did that again in this game. Loved Reid's game, I love the way he goes about it, hate that he wears blue and yellow haha

    For a video this week, I know you've already done a team list breakdown for this coming offseason, but what about a video doing a hawthorn style list cull like they did under Mitchell recently, seeing where we could be at come draft time if we went to the extreme end of things (e.g. trading both barrass and Waterman for high picks and being overally aggressive with delistings and such) loving the content all round ♥️

    Video ideas Sliding doors moments. E.g. when the Eagles didn't select Nick Martin despite him training with them as a rookie... who did we have as rookies. Or Tim Kelly before he went to Geelong. or Ginbey Hewitt vs Harry Sheezel... or Kelly trade deal to bring him in. or the guys like Petrovsky seton, Langdon that we traded for... what did we lose as a result. Or an analysis of the Rookie draft for the Eagles in the last 5 years and compare to other sides. I reckon the Rookies has been a major problem for us and is easy to quickly analyse so good to get a video out on.

    The A Graders are, Allen, Barass, MCGovern, Ryan, Cole, Reid, Kelly, Yeo, Waterman.
    Potential is Culley, Ginbey and Jack Williams that’s it. The rest are average WAFL players at the very best, that is the problem. The best coach cannot make a silk purse out of Sows ear.

    Obviously still a loss and that sucks, but as we are a team in a rebuild, I thought that it was a great effort. Its just a fact that our list could be the worst in the comp/bottom 3 at minimum. Some young boys stood up again and they are only improving, this is exactly what we need in our rebuild. Freo could go deep into September with an all australian midfield and we stood up to them in the first half. Have to say though, that Liam Ryan is truly a cancer for our club right now in terms of attitude/body language/effort. I was at the game, and 3 times he missed tackles or gave up on the play and which resulted in a goal. I think hes a skillful and talented player, but it really cannot be measured the negative affect it can have when a senior player gives out shit efforts and terrible body language, which I really hope the coach rags him out for.

    Our last 2 home games have been against 2 of top 3 teams in the comp, since Simpson has gone. Listening to Schofield in the presser today, I really like the aggression he is encouraging. Last week was awful, but I can find some reasons for that. The fight isn’t just Reid, there were 10-15 players in the wrestle and not him or yeo….which I see as a good thing. Eagles haven’t been doing that the last 5 years. Ok the derby brings that out sometimes, but Schofield is presenting a tougher attitude from eagles. I am growing with the idea of him leading the team ongoing tbh

    Good to see the passion coming back, a lot of derbies over the last 8 years or so have been very lacklustre, and didn’t feel like anything special. Harley Reid really elevates the whole game and feel
    Culley riling Serong up was a bit silly in retrospect, but it was good to see them getting up and about.
    Here’s hoping as a Freo fan that we can take this game, learn from it and apply that in Finals.
    P.s. Yeo played pretty well and showing leadership to hold Harley back during the little scuffle was brilliant. Haven’t, and probably won’t, hear anything about it tho.

    As a freo fan, I really wanted to watch zane trew play, 2 years ago I said he would do great for eagles. Didn't get a game until simmo left and then straight out in 3 seconds. Hope he gets up in2 weeks

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 2 місяці тому +1

    Harley Reid was brilliant. He drew the attention of the opposition and at times you had 2-3 guys targeting him and other Eagles guys were then free. Its outstanding leadership really on field. He's telling his teammates how to do it and how to attack and setting an example. He doesn't care if it brings more heat onto him for the benefit of team. At Freo he'd be a half forward. Syd a forward pocket. Collingwood half back. Cousins first year was as forward pocket with odd run on the ball. Cousins won rising star award just as a small forward with potntial. Harley in the main midfielder taking on the heat that the opposition throw at him because they know he is so good and are distracted. Harley is saying bring it on.

    We lack midfield depth and in combination of our rucks getting smashed we got outclassed in the end. That’s why if we get English, Baker and maybe Bolton with a Finn OSullivan will help next year.

  • @spindoctor6385
    @spindoctor6385 2 місяці тому +9

    Harley Reid needs a few of his team mates to show a bit of his passion. The guy is 14(?) games into his career and feels like he has to be the spark, he has to be the most aggressive guy on the ground. In a better WC world, a 50m penaly given away by a kid in his first year would not even be mentioned.

    • @BDub2024
      @BDub2024 2 місяці тому

      He is saying to his teammates. I can carry you guys and take the pressure. Free you guys up. An ultimate team players and leader. Happy to carry a heavier burden to help the team. Frankly at Sydney he'd be forward pocket. Even at Dockers he'd be on half forward and be playing a receiving role. So being at a bottom side he is carrying a very heavy load. I can't remember another like him. N Daicos was outstanding too, but that was in a top team and running off half back. He's now in his third year. But he is comparable but a receiver more. Reid is saying I'll take the heat boys follow me.

    • @spindoctor6385
      @spindoctor6385 2 місяці тому

      @@BDub2024 I agree, I just hope it does not become too much of a burden. I doubt Reid has been on many losing teams before, that can be a challenge, especially for a prolonged period. I am a Hawks supporter, but Reid is one of my favourite players in the league to watch, if he can channel everything the right way he will be Captain and recent Brownlow winner of the WC team that tries to stop our next threepeat in 2031.

      @@spindoctor6385 He is showing good signs like a Dusty and Dermie of being a big match performer. Taking the team with him. Unbelievable for a youngster. @BDub2024 2 місяці тому

      @@james_edits12 Its the way he plays and anyway its needed because of the sort of side that the Eagles are. Any other team he could float around and get the possessions and goals. With Eagles he needs more. My take is that you can always wind back aggression with maturity. But a guy lacking intensity and courage... well that is a very hard thing to learn. So I'm happy that he keeps on driving himself. I'm hoping he can avoid a few knocks to the head while he's young. With maturity he'll learn. The other guys just need to step up more too. He is definitely a big match players like Dermie and Dusty. He just rises for the occasion.

    Ideas... the future of our defence. Target on 2 years time... McGov retired. Barrass (traded or nearing end)... So we have Bazzo and Hedwards. Can a forward move back Oscar? Bazzo is more of a mobile tall defender. What are our requirements? Can guys like Maric and Culley? Then small defenders. are there young guys that can step up on the list to fill small defender roles.

    Obviously the result is disappointing but it shows that we can have good performances we just need to be able to do it for a whole game.
    Losing Trew may have contributed to the fall away as we lose a rotation.
    Awesome to see a bit of feeling back, AFL will be happy too more $$ for the Xmas party.

    Luke Edwards injured his ankle. That's the message I heard from a contact at the game in the fourth quarter. Not sure if it had been assessed then. Similarly Trew was going to hospital. At time they thought it was concussion, but now I think there was another issue with the clash.

    Ideas for videos: Rolling the Dice. Schofield has been rolling the dice with selections and positional placement. Remember putting allen back in defence to get form, Ginbey to half back, Cole up the ground... he has mixed things up a bit a lot more than Simmo. Go through some changes recently with guys changing places on field. And what other options are there to move guys into different positions

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 2 місяці тому

    Ideas... who can be the defensive tagger at Eagles. Ledwards? Culley. Long? Petch with pace? Is that Ledwards way of surviving using his smarts on ball but shutting guys down.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 2 місяці тому

    While Petch and Ryan got goals they are opportunist types. That's why we need pressure forwards and guys that are consistent up there. Long and Cripps play similar hard running roles, but you can't fill a forward line with opportunists. Go back in time and think how effective Chick and Rowan Jones were as half forwards and even Embley at times. Remember Fraser Gehrig at the Eagles was a pacy skinny half forward and won an All Australian there. I see Waterman as that role, but footy has changed now with forward structure.

    Best thing to happen this weekend was champion kicking 3 against our WAFL team. With changes to the NGA rules we should be able to get him. Edward’s development holds us in decent shape to trade barass for an early 1st rounder. Get 2 picks in the top 10 before champion is selected then match a bid on him possibly around pick 20.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 2 місяці тому

    I think Culley and Darling are perhaps jostling for similar roles now. Tackling pressure half forwards with big bodies. That may be Culley's lot if he can't fire up in the middle consistently. Flynn should be coming in soon. But problem then arises with BWilliams. It straight away unsettles our forward line as BWilliams JWilliams and Allen are similar marking lumbering types. Should Oscar look weight and become more mobile. Should he run into form and assist defence if McGov doesn't get up. You can't drop BWilliams for Flynn it would be unfair. But maybe a tough footy team does that sort of stuff. Do they experiment with BWilliams as a forward again?

    This should have been relatively expected to be honest. If the Dockers genuinely believe that they can be premiership contenders, they should be finding another gear, another level and beating teams beneath them and around them on the ladder, which for the most part, they have done.
    I am pretty proud of how we played with the exception of the third quarter. The response from last week was there, and I feel we did well to respond when Trew went off very early and Culley was subbed in. I know it doesn't feel like much, and possibly, my expectations should be higher, but I am seeing players atleast come in and have some impact. The real trick seems to be how to sustain that pressure and impact for longer. It's going to be an interesting draft and trade season, we clearly need reinforcement.

    Our centre is left exposed when we either lose the taps or the opposition starts playing close man on man out of the centre, preventing the one man clearances to 50 entry's.
    And then even if we win the ball, we don't have a clear chain system to release pressure and have ball movement chain out of stoppage which freo utilised in the second half

    Was a fun game. Fremantle do put on a good show (actually it's better than the Eagles, with a lot of Acca Dacca). Don't know if you're aware of this Jesse but at Eagles home games they've tried to implement a "Sweet Caroline" thing at half time. Couldn't think of anything more generic and well copied, no idea who made that call.
    But regardless it was a fun game in terms of the contest, the theatre, crowd involvement. I thought West Coast did really well just couldn't maintain the intensity. You could see just before half time Fremantle began to look in control in the centre bounces.

    One trophy down one to go. To the match, West Coast their credit they were competitive in the first half and i taught they were going to beat us again, hell they were in front, but Fremantle had a 2nd gear and ran them over in the end. As for Harley Reid Fremantle were finally about to teach him a lesson.

      Teach Harley Reid a lesson? 29 disposals, half of which were contested.
      He absolutely ran riot over your lot.

      @@sotiriosnovatsis4529 Beg to differ bud, Serong and Brayshaw with 30 plus disposals and a goal each. And not to mention Reid gave away a free kick during the game, last time he got under our skin, but this time we paid him out.
