    I've been beekeeping for a number of years, if you need any tips let me know! However what I would say is that it is a lot more complex than it seems. I strongly suggest that you find your local society and speak to them, even if you don't attend a beginner course (which you really should) simply having an experienced beekeeper you can call, when something weird inevitably happens, is extremely valuable. What I will say is that those hives are too close together as it stands, and the hives will probably start fighting - you'll want 10-12 feet between each hive. It can also help to paint them different colours as this can help the bees differentiate the hives, which stops them trying to land in the wrong hive and causing further conflict.

      He just learned early on that failure is a very important part of success. We can learn that from our teachers, parents and professors but while we hear them say those words, it doesn't sink in until we experience it first hand.
      You just have to keep on keeping on until you get it right. Or at least mostly right.

      I get joy over seeing Morgan enjoy his farm. I used to enjoy sitting and watching my animals and doing my chores, but covid got me and a year later I have long haulers and it appears to have disabled me. I have to depend on my ADD hubby to do things and he doesn't have nearly the joy Morgan or I have. He collects eggs once a week, .....maybe. He lets the rabbits run out of food such that there will be 6 dead bodies in the pen, he doesn't notice when rabbits dig out through rusted hardware cloth lining bottom, (been there since 1990) and escape, and let them run loose and cause havoc in the chicken house, in my garden , he just doesn't care. It stresses me but I don't have the oxygen to get out there and take care of business.

      He is a financial services advisor. Takes a pretty high level of understanding of the world to get to that position. A. Financial services guy who can run a farm and UA-cam channel at same time, while also showing an aptitude for hamdyman/carpentry skill, is pretty freaking genius level person to me. Frankly, it's generally only the intelligent that realize what their doing was stupid. Learned that while people watching in jail and conversations there and in life. The dumbest people alive, are those that make mistakes, and repeat it. Also, those that refuse to learn from others mistakes when given advice, particularly by older, and wiser people to teens or young adults, and repeat the same thing anyway.

      I bet he could have fun doing a little DIY stand for them in a video! But I bet pallets should be able to handle much heavier loads than those full beehives, unless they got rotten. I did see someone mention they should not all be next to each other because they would fight.

    I appreciate your taking the time to cook for us and even though it was awkward to eat it on camera, it looked delish! You don't have to eat it on camera if you are uncomfortable though, just watching you prepare it is enough! I never understood why people always ate their meal on video anyway, but cooking for your wife is so sweet. You're a good husband Morgan! 😁

    Use your tractor and dig up the asparagus and then plant into a forever spot to continue producing for you. Make sure you feed them real good. They are heavy feeders. The root system maybe pretty large due to it being really old.

    You can totally transfer the asparagus and rhubarb into another area. The rhubarb can be split and you can get more. I harvest all summer chop and freeze so I can make stewed rhubarb (I do it in crockpot for 24 hrs then it gets really dark and intensely flavoured) and finish on stove to boil,off excess water. Just pull the rhubarb, don’t cut it, and pull flowers as soon as they appear to keep harvesting all summer

    Awesome video GoldShawFarm also I am very excited for your new bees coming to your farm . 🥳. Also if you keep hay in toby's house the geese and the other birds will mistake it as a nesting spot for them . So I suggest you either remove the hay and put toby's bed or put his bed on top of the hay . That's the main reason that female goose went inside his house . Because to them it's another spot for them to lay their eggs

      You stopped keeping bees, why?

    • @Stordyr
      @Stordyr 3 роки тому

      @@silvergreylion Various reasons.
      1. it is a time factor. I'm very overloaded at work and bees need a certain flexibility (weather etc.) which I currently cannot contribute
      2. I was working with an old beehouse which I cannot recommend for anyone. At the time when I stopped I would've also had to replace my entire equipment to some modern box-design which I couldn't afford at the time.
      I'll restart it eventually again. When I got a bit more time at my hands.

    • @silvergreylion
      @silvergreylion 3 роки тому

      @@Stordyr I've kept bees for 3 years (in Denmark). Also with an old wooden beehive, 12x10 standard.
      I've had zero problems with varroa mites, probably because I read somewhere, that it has a natural enemy, a small pseudo-scorpion, which bees will sometimes find and bring to the hive, but it will only stay there, if there are cracks in wood it can breed in, and if the hive is not too moist. So, I kept the old hive (which has cracks on the inside), and modified an old lid to have a ceiling with a few ventilation holes, and it seems to have worked out fine.
      This year, the hive had thousands of bees surviving the winter, more than could fit in one magazine (which is what each individual box with 9 frames is called here).

    • @Stordyr
      @Stordyr 3 роки тому

      @@silvergreylion Well.. that's good for you. :) With old I meant ancient backside treatment magazines. Where you cannot pull individual frames but instead you have to remove ALL frames to get to the front one. It's old, it's not good for the bees and cleaning, feeding and varroa treatment is just a freaking mess. So I wanted to switch to Dadant EU but as I said, never really started again.
      When I retire ;)
