I'm so incredibly happy I found your channel! I used to read fantasy when I was younger, but for the past couple of years I've mostly focused on philosophy and classic literature like: Dostoevsky, Proust, Austen etc. After watching one of your videos I ordered Warbreaker, and absolutely fell in love with it! Even though English is not my first language, I found it incredibly easy to read, and it feels like i'm just smoothly flowing through every page. I've already ordered the Stormlight Archive Trilogy Set and I'm looking forward to delve deeper into the Cosmere with your help. Thank you so much for your awesome videos!
The cosmere classified was really cool I hope you make more soon. I am so hyped for stomrlight 5 that each day I sent myself a Whatsapp of how many days left.
I’m just glad to find an author who interacts with his fans and gives regular updates. Another author I follow takes forever in between books (which I understand life happens) but we rarely get updates to at least keep us in the know of where he is in his projects 😅 1:07 I just want to say I’m not intimidated by the size of the books although I agree I will need to reinforce my shelves 😂 Of all the authors who I follow their work the only one who I feel like probably writes and puts books out faster is Brian Herbert in the dune extended universe (I got too overwhelmed trying to keep up so I stopped reading his after the house trilogy
I'm very happy with the length. I can't get enough of this series. So far sanderson has been very good with earning his word counts. Sure Rythm of War has some pacing issues for most. But even in the slower parts, stuff still happens or gets explained. I've read some books where for 300 pages the plot goes nowhere and the main character just walks, gathers wood and hunts. Even the slower parts in stormlight are there for a reason. The first time I read oathbringer I found it quite hard to keep going. Now that I've reread it I loved it. With the reread I'm not that plot driven and then I realise how much awesome stuff actually happens haha 491k words ftw! Will he ever hit 500k?
I’m so excited for Wind and Truth! And I’m not worried about the word count at all. His last draft is mostly to slim the book down and he usually cuts about 10%. This time he cut 42k words as well (before adding a few more interludes he hadn’t written yet). Whether you like what he does with his huge books or not is of course up to you. I did very much like Rhythm of War, so I’m not worried.
Loved the first book. I've read it four times. The second was ok. I had a hard time getting through book 3, it took me nearly a year. Still haven't finished book 4
in regards to RoW, sanderson mentioned in his year of sanderson video that he was started to get burned out with everything (the touring was taking up so much time). I feel like RoW didn't quite have the same spark. Kaladin's story while emotionally compelling, plotwise felt fetch questy. I don't think the flashbacks quite worked as well. I know he wanted to have venli and eshonai, but I read RoW and I feel like Navanni should have been the flashback character. I know that'd mean a singer wouldn't have a flashback book, but it just didn't quite pan out. Tho there's loads of room for novellas, so maybe venli could have gotten a novella
I think alot of people have leveled that same complaint against stormlight book 4. In my mind though it was kind of a set up book that he made entertaining for us so he could move things in the right place for book 5. That is why in my opinion it feels a bit off, but at the end of the day it did its job well and still made it entertaining ( sorry for the ramble and lack of grammer am stoned )
I'm partially excited b/c I love Sanderson but this is the most wary I've ever been for one of his releases. I think the first 2 books were amazing but Warbreaker was a step down and I thought Rhythm of War was just bad (it was my least favorite Cosmere book). Part of me thinks that this series just got too large and too complicated and it got away from him but I really hope he sticks the landing for the first half. Fingers crossed.
W00T, W00T, the hype for Stormlight 5 is REAL! 😋 I have the same opinion when it comes to bloated books/stories. As a dark fantasy author, I personally prefer stories that are more focused / condensed, that focuses more on the more important parts of a story. Like when it feels like there's always something interesting happening, whether that is cozy, action-packed or anything else. Here's hoping Sanderson has done that for Stormlight 5! 😄💙📚 P.S. I became an Edgedancer when I did the quiz! 😋✨️✨️✨️
@@MrJohnnytheone The Name of the Wind for sure! :) I'm reading it now, and I've never turned pages in a book so quickly before! :P I have more recommendations back on Birger Tales too, as well as my own dark fantasy stories :)

As much as I love Sanderson, the book sizes are a bit of a put off. A book split into 2 600 pagers is a big commitment, that's 4 "normal" books on my TBR that could be done
I was thinking of Sanderson earlier today and whether to go the route of reading Mistborn or WOK first. WOK definitely appeals to me more but Mistborn is supposed to be a easier read. 🤔🤔 Slowly getting into fantasy. Have dune on my read pile at some point, but currently working through my 27 unread Stephen King books on my tbr list. With more to buy😅. It never ends.😂
idk if you mean starting sanderson in general or just between these, but after reading warbreaker first (imo one of the best intros and also one of my favs of his overall), i read WOK and started SA, only now reading mistborn after. def possible, the 1000+ page books are just more involved and likely harder to get used to. if you're more recently getting into fantasy, WOK might be better appreciated once you're more used to magic systems and worldbuilding, but if you're interested enough it's possible either way! have to say, i started more interested in stormlight than mistborn, kinda thinking of it as reading his backlog/more of the cosmere, but on book 3 now and mistborn has been amazing in its own right as well
It is about the same as Stephen King's epic novel The Stand which is 500k a word and The Stand which is beloved by many tells in step by step graphic detail how a virus wipes out most of the human race through multiple POVs and then how easy people can die from what once was nothing injuries while telling a grand tale of good vs evil.
I sort of agree but this is also a climactic point in the series which means the sanderlanche at the end will be quite long. I feel like at least a quarter of the book will feel like it isn’t there
I hope he at least kills Kaladin. I'm so sick of reading him go through the same story arc in every book. It seems like Sanderson ran out of good ideas for him.
I hope some major sacrifices are made, but Sanderson can't seem to write anything but a happy ending. I'm expecting all the main characters to survive.
3:20 You nailed it. Sanderson can do no wrong. People will read as many words as he writes. This will be a test of sorts... Sanderson loves writing TONS of words, which is his style, and if you like that great. But his extreme success and fame may inflate his ego to the point that no one checks and balances him properly in editing. For my part, I hope to be a fraction as talented and successful as B.S. some day. My first fantasy novel clocked in at 111K words and is very focused. The 3 other books in the series will expand the world, characters, and plot incredibly, but I hope to stay as laser focused and fast-paced (overall) as possible.
Yess! Would love to see this book get back to the feel of Words of Radiance. That is one of my favorite books of all time and some of the more recent books have dragged a bit. We'll see. I've got a lot of faith in Sanderson's ability to use the pages to expand the world and build no intriguing story lines.
man wth 491k words and i havent finished mistborn yet im at the ending of the second book i think ill take a break and read some dark tower after hero of ages
I tried to read the first book and gave up twice cos it’s soooo slow but now listening to them all on audio which is ok cos I can do other stuff while he’s waffling on but really these books are incredibly baggy.
Ye rhythm of war was tedious and not well written shockingly in some chapters. Others were brilliant, but it was the first sanderson book i didnt enjoy. Whereas i loved the heartbreaking beautiful story of oathbringer. Will reread all to give the world a new fresh chance since i was listening to them. Maybe that was the issue, altho michael kramer is one of the best narrators.
I understand fearing the length but personally, I don’t get irritated by the “lulls” in any of his books (I’ve been waiting to read ROW in anticipation for book 5, so maybe that one will be different) as much as I do in some other series like Wheel of Time. WOT lulls are almost unbearable for me (see the Fires of Heaven - the circus saga). Whereas in the Stormlight Archive, at least im not rolling my eyes as often.
Mmmm the Stormlight books 3 and 4 were just that long for the sake of being that long and I feel that the same is happening here. I’m sure that a good editor could cut 30 to 40K words and make this books better…, but, well, I’m gonna read them anyway.
The rothfuss turtle i m dead thank you 🤣
so hyped for stormlight 5

Sanderson did say that Rhythm of War would be different, as it's a set up to the last book.
Come on Brandon you can do it! We want that magical 500k!

the editing at 2:35 was too funny 💀
There is also Joe Abercrombie‘s The Devils coming soon 🥳🥳

Maybe take the Knights Radiant quiz for a video and make your choice based on that? 🤔

Yeah that word count worries me more than excites me. His last few books would have benefitted from cutting / slimming them down imo
I had the same thought
Completely agree.

Disagree. I wanna see what a random character is doing. Even if the pacing isn't as good I almost always want more not less
I'm guessing the body count of book 5 will be pretty high.
I think so too, which is a little scary 😅

The longer I can spend on the world the better. I'm here for the bloat.
I almost feel like his editor is afraid to remove anything so it ends up being bloated. RoW needed quite a few spots that could have been edited down.
