I was in public school from 2005-2017. Thinking back, we were only given milk as options to drink. Not even water…. We had to use a water fountain in the hall if we just wanted water. I think that’s crazy.
In the 80's in elementary school, they would take us out to the water fountain twice a day for water breaks. You had 5 seconds to drink as much as you could. 10 seconds per day. That was all the water we got all day. Pretty pitiful.
There's been a lot of pushback about school lunches in recent years but I wish some of that would extend to nursing home residents who are at the mercy of institutional food morning , noon and night . I know kids are the future and cuter but we still deserve to live the best quality of life that we can in our final days.
My parents spent a lot of money (my dad was a retired welder; they weren't wealthy) to spend the last 20 years of their long lives in a seniors' complex. I ate with them on numerous occasions and found the food lacking in both nutrition and palatability. I'm diabetic and, when I requested a diabetic meal while visiting, I got a breaded fish fillet on a white bun. I feel like a first-world whiner even complaining about it but, as I said, they were paying A LOT of money to live there.
France provides lunches in public schools and although the palatability is variable, it's healthy most of the time. (Fruits, veggies, lightly processed meat or fish, yoghourt, and water) Afternoon snacks are packed by parents and breakfast is taken at home. Prices of schools lunches vary and dépend on your annual income as a family, if you're too poor it's government funded....
I'm from south america and I went to school from 2006 to 2016 and every school in my state had a nutritionist provided by the state government to make the school's menu. It wasnt always great, but I always had meat, real meat, and vegetables. Sometimes we had yoghurt as a dessert. And that was it. Idk if schools are still like this, but it was great during my years there.
The moderately high prevalence of lactose intolerance, especially among minorities, makes the prevalence of cow lactation and the lack of plant-based milk options - yet another unreasonable position.
I was damned grateful for school lunches in the 70s, cause our parents didn't always have access to gas, which meant trucks didn't always run, which meant food wasnt always available to purchase. We didn't have choices, other than a packed lunch or what was on the school lunch menu. We had a meat, a veg, a starch, and fruit, and sometimes a bread or salad, and milk. If you didn't like it, you went hungry.
Honesty the food is bland if it tastes like anything at all and seeing them throw things out was the norm. The fact that THIS is what we give children is the sad fact
I lived in a South American country. When I was little, until high school, we would only be given some money for snacks, or even have our snacks packed for us until we were in middle school. And then you had lunch when you got home. That was great! Nice home cooked food every day. When I came to the US, I didn’t eat anything, except for chocolate milk, which I didn’t want anyway. But there was nothing else for me to eat, because I did not like the food. Don’t get me started on school breakfasts! One time we got served a chicken patty, and two bread slices. I suppose we were supposed to make a sandwich out of that in the morning, and to top it all off, accompany that chicken sandwich with regular or chocolate milk, and any sugary cereal you can think of. Where I come from, you have a nice breakfast with eggs and everything, and then you go to school.
You're supposed to have a nice breakfast at home not at school, I think it's ridiculous people go to school expecting to eat breakfast they provide, where I grew up in the US I had oatmeal with a dash of cinnamon and blueberries mixed in and a small egg sandwich and we were by no means Rich, just middle class in a middle class area (this wasn't long ago either I graduated High School in 2018) I brought my own lunch to school but they had literal small salad bars there as well where you could eat healthy it's just a lot of kids DON'T want to.
You need to take food off the school and give it back to the parents. I live in NZ and the idea of the schools providing the lunch is absolutely crazy. Having a packed lunch made at home and taken with you is how it should be globally. Why are you Americans so bad at looking after your children? It's rather discussing
Not everyone can afford to pack lunches. I can’t believe you left that comment. Tell me you’ve never struggled without telling me you’ve never struggled.
I feel that this is an excellent representation of obesity. It showcases the downward spiral of healthy nutrition and an increase in unhealthy food choices from multiple viewpoints. This, in turn, creates the vicious cycle of obesity in our most vulnerable citizens, our children.
Ive a good idea... why don't the MOTHERS make them a lunch like they used to when I was young and the way I did with my son as a SINGLE FULL TIME mother and employee! AND, my son would tell me his friend liked his lunch and could I make one for him as well? And I obliged! Whats wrong with mothers nowadays??

Bro what part of South America you from? I grew up in Colombia until 8th grade and you had to buy your own food, and it was mostly fried 😭
Wouldn't be able to raise my child in this country. Starting from education to medical and then gun policies. Plus this non sense

Very true.
Part of education should be teaching the kids to grow food.
Strong agree.

Wow seeing the waste the kids throwing away whole trays of food when there are starving children all over the world really sad.
Honesty the food is bland if it tastes like anything at all and seeing them throw things out was the norm. The fact that THIS is what we give children is the sad fact
You can hardly call this food.
Why are they teaching kids to juice carrots and apples? Eat the whole thing. Juice is no good for you.
We had water fountains. If you didn't drink milk, you got a dixie cup and were told to get water.

This is decades behind what jamie oliver started. Where ya been?
And parents wonder why there kids don't like certain foods or won't eat certain foods because school foods are not that good
It would help if kids were encouraged to stay away from junk food.
The cafeterias are full of vending machines now, in some places.
Send your kids with food, ask cps to help if you can't properly feed your kids
What year was this video made?
Who cares when the video was made.. Has anything changed?
the change wouldn't happen without a proof

They specifically engineer foods to addict people. Ive seen some of the hidden focus group videos and yhe resulting internal discussions. Its insane.
You are what you eat 😊
Just give them a salad
This was a great documentary! Very eye opening

If people have a problem with school lunch how about just pack a lunch

Afford, most Americans can afford it, illegals no. But both kneel before the word free...

I make a healthy chicken stir fry in less than 20 minutes
This was click bait, had nothing to do with obesity.
Still good
Um yes it is
It has everything to do with it . Real food comes from the earth . You eat processed foods . You think its food .

Mothers need to pack lunches, its your fault for allowing it
Fathers.........???
