- The last official flight of this great aircraft in Norway. It took place 14-3-1983 at Bodo,Norway
Tail number 104637.
I hope the men that flew it and those that worked on it will enjoy this video from times long gone.
Beautiful, just hearing the sound of the J-79 brings back nice memories to a crew chief on this great aircraft from '68 till '78 and an unforgettable backseat on 11 July '77, a date I will never forget. Those where the days.
Even with 4 F-16's, you can still hear the howl of the F-104. That is the best sounding engine in the world.
I grew up in Bodo and the sound of the run- up was great. Just one runway. Pretty cool also, I got to see the cousin of the 104, SR-71, take-off from there. Very sweet. Gotta say Bodo is a great town.
Man, those were incredible fly-byes! Amazing in a video and i can figure how even greater they were live, "in loco"! WOW!!! I can also imagine how the pilot and the crewmembers did feel knowing that, after the engine shutdown, they probably wouldn't hear that noise again... For sure one of the worst feelings for any pilot that loves its airplane... Thank you "weaselthree" for uploading and sharing that with us!
Great vid!! Yeah the General Electric J79 turbojet engine is a monster, and it does sound tougher than iron! What a supersonic wonder of the day. Good looking bird too!
Pure nostalgia! I grew up near Kjeller (main maintenance base of the Royal norwegian airforce)that sound of the J79 was part of the soudtrack of my childhood.. I haven't heard the sound of an F 104G for years. Thank you.
Those F16 sure looked like they were using the taxi ways for take-off. The F104 sounded awesome, never heard those before. WTB F104 :)
I remember this day clearly. I was in 2nd grade at school when I saw all the starfighters in formation. very cool and VERY noisy :)
Oh God! That Howl of the J79 engine is just pure goosebumps. My dad told me stories about when he was stationed at Edwards AFB. He would stand on the flight line, and listen to the pilots just play with the throttle during taxi to make them howl.... ooooo i am sleeping well tonight :D
With all the F-16s u can still here that F-104s J-79 howeling allsome.
If the F104 Starfighter was upgraded-electronics, weapons, and so on-it would today's skies.
I love the F104
Very nice. I agree, nat sound all the way! The Starfighter was/is a wonderful plane wasn't it?
WTF?! The F-16 made a t/o from taxiway?
Great sound
Bodo, has two parallel runways, one primary (taken by the F-104) and a smaller secondary, that's the one the F-16's use.
@weaselthree
That's funny, because unless there is some special "airshow" going on, if people see F16s taking off on taxiways, they might want to think about running out to their cars and heading out while they can.
where in norway did this take place?
