Apparently plenty of gamers are willing to invest, so much so that it affects their daily finances in some cases. Just look at Star Citizen, just the IDEA of a game gets people to invest hundreds of millions of dollars
I don't have any statistics in front of me, but that might just be some few whales mixed with a bunch of dolphins and many tiny minnows. The latter invest little and may have forgotten and given up on it while the whales and dolphins keep it running. Or at least that's what I heard to be the case with dozens of F2P games. And very many people arguably know little about Star Citizen. It's kind of a niche still, as the space game that it is or aspires to be. That's just not a very mainstream genre. Feel free to correct me if that assessment is way off.
@@extremeencounter7458 There's a major difference here : Since Star Citizen don't allow to sell back your assets (please confirm that point), those "investing" there do it in order to play the game. In the opposite side, those who spent money in Earth2 did it hoping it'll get value and get more money back. In fact, they don't even need the project to be tangible to be profitable...
Funny thing, I remember when Earth 2 first came out, I bought a spot in Amsterdam for like 10 bucks or something and sold it for 400 bucks a couple of weeks later, I immediately withdrawn it and since never paid a single buck, great investment lol.
Yeah, those early months of E2 were pretty wild. I invested around $900, but I took a different approach and held onto my investment. Looking back, I’m really glad I never sold.

As someone familiar with the situation, I can say that Shane stopped paying the developers last year and accumulated huge debts to them. Instead of settling the debt, he began finding fault with them for fabricated and absurd reasons, ultimately firing employees without paying them for their work.
@justinwhite2725 but when your contracts are so abusive, and you're hiring people of their desperation instead of talent, why would anyone actually expect good quality work? You need to pay people proportionally for the level of work you want from them, and if you're at the level you can't even guarantee a paycheck, at that point you'd be lucky for your workers to even show up. Also probably doesn't help when you have a manager with no idea what they're doing and asking for the impossible.
@@justinwhite2725 that in no way excuses keeping them hired on and withholding wages. Get rid of them earlier instead of farming them for unpaid work.
How the smeg they have trouble paying devs when people supposedly given something like 200M$ in assets (tiles and skins) ? They even claimed giving back 20M$ to the "players"
I'm not someone who can do the related math, but I don't think that 200M is that much in software development. Even with a smaller team you will eventually burn through that money in a couple of years, and E2 has been around since 2020 I believe?
@@Lenariet How is the dev part that expensive when : - You have reused asset from DRONE - You have assets from the Unity Store (TPS and physics) - You have a limited amount of skins (used to be the ones from Ready player me first highly promoted to show "progress") - You have empty lands (I don't think getting the heightmap from Earth costed millions) - You have nothing related to the user base shown on the video involving the 3D metaverse - You have considerable amount of dev that leaved/got fired - The only launched server is used for the Web2.0 part with tiles and basic 3D geometry. Basically, the amount of data streamed is quite limited compared to the supposed future result that would involve Skin, player coordonates and actions, building, Land height (Terraforming updates) and inside's furnace. If everything already costed +200M$, the finished supposed results would go into billions (which is fishy to me) !
@@IMayOrMayNotBeNoelG Clearly not a 200M$ job in a non finished state... Only thing I've seen on the videos that looks like a feature from DRONE used in E2 are the drones engine (?) used on empty lands. The rest are just videos used from DRONE trailers and tutos.
@@beertlont776desperate people, and there's enough of them. Some countries hire foreign workers then with hold their passports so they can't leave without permission, so that's just slavery in a new hat.
How could anyone look at that and think, "Yes, this will be just like ready player 1." When I look at Shane and his team. I see nothing of substance. Then I look over on steam and I see a SINGLE dev make a full blow game solo they actually made 2 games called SPACEBOURNE and SB2. I guess it's all about the passion and work ethic.
If those terminated fellas are in the United States, I would highly recommend writing a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board and Department Of Labor. For a bunch of feds, they are kick ass at this sort of thing. I know from experience.
The one thing to consider is that in the wide majority of game development studios you never see these types of problems popping up. Sure, a bit of isolated drama here and there. And sure, Earth 2 is under a microscope. But since from the very beginning things just didn't make sense from the ground up. So many red flags going on this project for two years.
Eh, we might just not hear about all of it. This is actually not the first time something like this is being mentioned by Shane Isaac, there was some video a longer while back where he mentioned similar threats, I believe in one around that Callum Upton challenge. I bet BigFry got some death threats in his CC career too, there must be some people who surely are blaming his coverage of their games for their failure and thus feel similar hate for him. That's almost part of the job, as tragic as it is. The internet has a lot of unhinged people and when there is potentially a lot of money or a desired career future at stake it's not super farfetched that some individuals would go crazy. Doesn't necessarily mean I believe Shane, as this shouldn't be relevant to the progress of E2 itself, there is no good reason to let the public know about this, at bare minimum it's unprofessional that this is being brought up by him. But still. It's not like this would be the first time for Shane to lose focus and act in ways that would make every proper PR guy scream in terror.
I just made comment on one of their recent videos...stating that I didn't believe this game was even real, and within 30 seconds, my comment was deleted. All negative comments have vanished. The tactics of an obvious scam.
Regardless of how you feel about what's been happening with Earth 2. Stalking and harassing someone who probably has nothing to do with the project other than being related to the CEO, is never okay. I'm not defending what Shane has done over the years in taking money from those willing to throw money at a worthless metaverse. Just that, stalking & harassing should never be something deemed "okay". I know that Bigfry wasn't condoning what's going on. But there will always be those who don't care about what could happen when such actions are allowed to go unquestioned.
I'm specifically upset because this is the first I've heard of that "Drone" game, and it looks insanely fun. Turns out, since they were acquired the game is now dead. Earth 2 took a genuinely great game from us just to drag it down with Earth 2's inevitable demise.
You know what's funny, I scrubbed the footage and they strategeically avoid bumping into or shooting trees and shrubs. You know why? THERES NO COLLISION They laid off all the devs doing the proc-gen world and they still aren't finished with the world! You simply can't have any real gameplay in this world if there aren't colliders per-plant - No resource gathering, no visibility cones, no obstacles while driving. I've worked on large 3D worlds (Heat, Reign of Kings and Starforge), and tree colliders aren't trivial to implement especially in Unity (which they are using). Instead their games are literally arcade minigames that don't have any grounding in the displayed graphics - the two are entirely separate from each other, making the world at this stage entirely devoid of any meaning. Granted, they would struggle anyway to have any grand gameplay that the world would open up for them - having a world that massive means that players will never organically encounter each other, have any sort of meaningful contention, have any sort of engagement with each other besides wandering aimlessly. Doing actual game design is pretty hard and the constraints of "massive world" x "metaverse tile ownership" make any sort of interesting game design effectively impossible. My heart goes out to the DRONE team, they're obviously pretty talented and it sucks to see their work be trampled underfoot by crypto bros.
The Drone Team went to work at E2 because they couldn't pay their bills with the money raised from the fundraiser anymore. Looks like they're in the same situation again. I had high hopes for Drone and had backed that game during fundraising. Shame we'll never be able to see it in its full glory.
I mean starwars Galaxy had huge world whit a whole lot of nothing in them beyond some random gen stuff, like a womprat nest. worked anyway because player would meet up in cities and what not. then drive out to todays task be it out to some minefield for ore, or a cave to look for something or what not. (the game even had player cities and player would build cities/town where they thought it would suit them and it worked... untill the player base got to large for each world map it sort of was designed around maybe 2000 player playing on each map not 10.000 player all whit there own building resulting in the desert map turning into a masive megacity aka Coruscant. Starwars Galaxy had crafter making stuff out of material that then was sold to other player and thoes item got worse as they was used. so if A master Gunsmith made a Pistol (that player had a que forming of peaple wanting to buy his pistols) and in order to make the best gun you needed great raw material (whole prosess chain that requires tool each tool of great quality) and the output the pistol was as many would say Flawless masterpiece the buyer equips it and goes out into the wild blasting and over time that gun would get worn down until it become useless, meaning several guild could buy one gun and have it be a display case to show other that they was the big stuff because they got there hand on a flawless crafted masterpiece (did they ever use said gun? nope). the Problem whit earth 2 is there is no gameplay and no reason to play.
I've not seen any token out there that has recovered after an initial launch. They exist, but they are like unicorns. I'm amazed that E2 is still kicking and a community is still around it? Craziness. Gotta have a lot of hope to cope.
If you can't withdraw it's actually a spreadsheet and a promise. On Coingecko there's no FDV because the total minted isn't available, just the coded maximum. DOA
I remember back in the day when the Drone team was brought on it was heralded as a sign of progress and great things to come. As the great Nelson Muntz repeatedly says: "Ha Ha!"
Never heard of "Earth 2" before (well, except the one-season TV series which it probably isn't related to in any way), but so many red flags here which totally make it obvious that this is probably a money-grab, or at least a studio that absolutely doesn't know what they're doing. The videos, as said, just show UE5 landscapes with generic asset packs and shaders, totally unrelated gameplay scenes which don't really give any clue how they'd work together in a single game, plus basically no info about lore, story/character progression or anything that makes up a proper game. Then, trying to finance a whole game by selling crypto tokens is definitely something everyone should step away from. NFTs and crypto currencies *never ever* worked out for anyone except those people selling them to trusting people and being quick converting that crypto money back into real money, then vanish never to be seen again. Oh, and don't forget the "as big as the real Earth part". With procedural generation, it's possible, but Earth is HUGE. Even with a million people playing the game, they'd still rarely meet each other if random scattered around - or have to cross huge distances.
E2 will not actually be a game, but a platform to which various functions can be connected (minigames, etc.). Relaxed adventure and exploration in the terrain, that's what those videos mostly demonstrate. Now at the end of this month, that 3D Platform (e2v1) should be available for testers. Let's see if E2 keeps its promises
man i have been waiting for this series to pick back up for FOREVER. Havent watched it yet. I want to wait to get back home for optimal viewing conditions but I also cant wait for that. Should I do half and half? not sure...
13:00 Australia has some pretty draconian banking and investment laws which are often simply referenced to as being related to money laundering. It can take months and even years for various payment systems which are used freely in other countries to be legalised and available in Australia. Payoneer and another system were victim to some of those issues. So its not surprising that something might have triggered a freeze withing the E2 withdrawal mechanics.
Imagine being scammed when building a game to scam people. Don’t feel sorry for anyone involved. NFT “games” deserve to sink and take everyone with them.
I don't think E2 is doing as well as it did in the early years, but there's still a significant number of people depositing money, buying land, and the marketplace remains quite active.
E2's response sounds exactly like the behavior of the company I'm currently providing consulting to: a ton of script kiddies who have no business in tech, but have been given far more freedom and control than they have ever deserved. The org is run by venture capitalists who think Apple is the peak of computing. I'm not surprised that they've fallen victim to cybersecurity attacks, and paid out every time.

To be fair, Callum.Upton proved that the devs he hired were basically shit.
@@Lenariet How is the dev part that expensive when :
- You have reused asset from DRONE
- You have assets from the Unity Store (TPS and physics)
- You have a limited amount of skins (used to be the ones from Ready player me first highly promoted to show "progress")
- You have empty lands (I don't think getting the heightmap from Earth costed millions)
- You have nothing related to the user base shown on the video involving the 3D metaverse
- You have considerable amount of dev that leaved/got fired
- The only launched server is used for the Web2.0 part with tiles and basic 3D geometry. Basically, the amount of data streamed is quite limited compared to the supposed future result that would involve Skin, player coordonates and actions, building, Land height (Terraforming updates) and inside's furnace.
If everything already costed +200M$, the finished supposed results would go into billions (which is fishy to me) !

Only thing I've seen on the videos that looks like a feature from DRONE used in E2 are the drones engine (?) used on empty lands. The rest are just videos used from DRONE trailers and tutos.

Pretty sure that firing someone for no reason is illegal in Australia. Doesn't matter what it says in the contract if it contradicts labor law.
"I have 1000 e-ther" "thats so cool you're so rich!!!! why do you say ether like that tho?"
The buggy background gameplay brings me back lol
If those terminated fellas are in the United States, I would highly recommend writing a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board and Department Of Labor. For a bunch of feds, they are kick ass at this sort of thing. I know from experience.
The Drone Team is from the EU, they'll be able to complain here and give Shane a good ass kicking.
It's wild seeing Earth 2 again, hell your first E2 vids were why I subscribed to you in the first place
I just made comment on one of their recent videos...stating that I didn't believe this game was even real, and within 30 seconds, my comment was deleted. All negative comments have vanished. The tactics of an obvious scam.
I kind of wish I was in their Discord because I bet there are a few completely unhinged people blaming CallumUpton and the rest of the Cabal...
Yep
Regardless of how you feel about what's been happening with Earth 2. Stalking and harassing someone who probably has nothing to do with the project other than being related to the CEO, is never okay. I'm not defending what Shane has done over the years in taking money from those willing to throw money at a worthless metaverse. Just that, stalking & harassing should never be something deemed "okay".
I know that Bigfry wasn't condoning what's going on. But there will always be those who don't care about what could happen when such actions are allowed to go unquestioned.
2 years for spawning balls. lol
This is a top tier scam. I can't understand people falling for that shit.
Wow, thanks for the update! Was wondering what the f they were up to by now!
Just back from the cinema god DAMN am I happy I brought the rest of the popcorn home 🍿this is cinema.
THERES NO COLLISION
They laid off all the devs doing the proc-gen world and they still aren't finished with the world!
It does make sense considering Callum showed in one of their beach ball videos that some of the balls clipped through the ground.
the Shadow Cabal strikes again i see.
I've not seen any token out there that has recovered after an initial launch. They exist, but they are like unicorns. I'm amazed that E2 is still kicking and a community is still around it? Craziness. Gotta have a lot of hope to cope.
lots of the earth 2 bag holders are desperate to sell even at 75% off. they have lost money and want to get out but cannot
If you can't withdraw it's actually a spreadsheet and a promise. On Coingecko there's no FDV because the total minted isn't available, just the coded maximum. DOA

Wow, you totally delivered on that community post.
Ready Player Earth 3 Redemption is going to be the best game since GTA2.
