- The Navigator has been a top full size luxury SUV for many years and Lincoln is very proud of that. The challenge is their main competitor Cadillac has an all new Escalade for 2021. Under the hood of this Navigator Reserve L is a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 that is producing 450HP & is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the Reserves has a unique grill, 22in wheels and other features. On the inside you will get a full leather interior with massage seats, digital gauge cluster, and tons of room. Is the Lincoln Navigator a BETTER luxury SUV than the 2021 Escalade?

Boy did you hit my sweet spot. I spent 20 years in the Limo business in SoCal as a driver and an owner. I drove hundreds of thousands of miles in both the Escalade and Navigator in regular and super stretch versions. I ended up with 3 Lincolns and 1 Cadillac in my fleet.
I would offer both. 80% of first time customers wanted the Escalade. On their second trip, I would offer the Navigator as an alternative choice, promising them it wouldn't disappoint. I would venture that after being in both cars, 90% would ask for the Lincoln. But why?
The "party crowd" like the flashy, glitzier Escalade. But with an open bar on board, they would end up wearing their drinks because of the choppier truck like ride of the Cadillac. My business clients with their laptops going non-stop from San Diego LAX would always ask for the Lincoln's much smoother drive. So that's why I had more Navigators. And one more issue that annoyed me was that the Escalade's trim pieces regularly fell off, in and outside of the vehicle. But that was never the case with the Lincoln.

The new 2021 fixed the Escalade choppy ride with an all new independent rear suspension instead of the old solid rear axle..

That’s why I’m going to my Third one ! Got a 2009 limited put 176 Thousand miles only had rear suspension problems than Got a 2015 it is 116 thousand miles never gave any problems also the 3.5 twin turbo saves LOTs OF GAS n it is powerful as a V8 . Both Lincoln’s as they got old they drove smooth as it was new. On the other hand my neighbor got a 2020 escalate, his wife spend 2 tanks of gasoline in a week plus 2 engine recalls in less than a year ! Sorry but I can’t afford over $800 in gasoline every month when I spent less than $500 on my Lincoln ! Since my is payoff I will sell it n purchase another one .

Owned a Navigator & Aviator from Lincoln this a solid vehicle that I loved. No issues just smooth riding with the kids al the way. You make me want to turn in my Rav & get this baby again.

@Doug Parker I'm in maine I dont see them at all and don't see the Escalade either.i owned a cts coupe here and it was the same til visited back home in Virginia and there were cts coupes everywhere. I see Cadillac here but no Lincoln

I’m generally a Ford guy, but for some reason, GM’s full sized SUVs are more compelling. Especially the yukon denali which fully loaded is like $7500 less than a mid trim level navigator.

The high end Lincoln is comparable to the Escalade not a Yukon.
The lincoln is the ideal modernized old person luxury vehicle, while the escalade is the ideal luxury vehicle for the younger audience

@@MrPrush-ji4gs how? Lmao. Older people wont be caring about all the electronics the escalade offers over the lincoln. The escalades main feature is its electronics suite, the curved infotainment display, the multiple touch screen control points on the dash, ect. The lincoln takes a more classic approach to luxury still keeping hard control points that the older audience prefers.
I think this is the perfect comparison of the two. Best take I've heard in a while.
Sup Joe. I absolutely love both the Navigator & Escalade, but if I had 2 choose 1 I'd pick the Escalade because of that glorious 6.2L N/A V8 ❤❤❤.

The clincher for me is the available Super Cruise on the Escalade. Arguably the best level 2 autonomous system on the market.
The front end of the Navigator and the wheels are awesome. The back end with that terrible light bar. It’s just a red slab with some chrome. It looks ancient! The interior is showing its age compared to the brand new Escalade. I don’t think they need to change much. Just needs some tweaks to keep it fresh.

I like the lincoln. I have drove both the Escalade and the Navigator. The ride is definitely smoother in the lincoln to me.

Hey Joe! I have been a fan of the Lincoln since the nineteen-eighties, and the navigator since was it was introduced in nineteen ninety-eight! This navigator is the best so far that Lincoln has produced bar none! I can’t wait to see the new refresh of this generation of the Lincoln Navigator for 2022.
I think it’s aging well. I’ve heard something about the Navigator getting a refresh next year. Right now it looks good so I hope they don’t mess with it too much (screw it up). I’ve been seeing tons of new Expeditions also where I live. We have 4 Ford dealerships in the area I live.

I heard that the refresh should be coming later this year as a MY22 with updates to the infotainment system to better compete with the newly refreshed Escalade. It should be coming with the larger touchscreen with sync 4 found in the new 2021 Nautilus refresh. Let’s see what happens and hopefully they don’t mess with it too much cause I thinks perfect as is.
@@PhntmShdw98 Yep, the Aviator came shortly after the Navigator with more up to date features and power trains. It just shows how much they evolved between the Navigator unveiling and the Aviator. Looking at the 2021 F150 with it’s options can give us an idea of what to expect for the 2 Full size SUVs.

I own an Escalade.... But the 2021 Escalade and this Navigator is a hard choice! They are both top of the line quality SUV'S!
I’d go with the Escalade most likely.
Newer and most like best at $100K.
Navigator looks much better and has better luxury, but if tech is a priority it's definitely behind the escalade.

Escalade seats up to 8 people and is a much larger vehicle.

Again, I really appreciate the detail you give. I was seriously considering a Navigator, but opted for a 2019 Grand Sport (recent divorce lol). Budget doesn't allow for both (not even close). Great review as always.
I always love the Navigator , I had a 2002 Lincoln Navigator and I drove that thing too high school back then lol , there really nice , there like the Ford Exdpention but nicer
Escalade is more luxurious and complete I feel, the body and the interior design of the escalade makes you feel special.

The only thing Caddy has going is the 30 something inch infotainment instrument gauges. But Caddy don't have the seats. Lincoln for the win

It really surprises me that the Hyundai Palisade has heated and ventilated seats in the second row but this one, the Yukon, and the Escalade don’t and they’re 20k plus more than the palisade.
$20k+? More like $50k+ . The Hyundai Palisade Limited is $48k and the Calligraphy is $49k. This Navigator is well over $90k and can get well over $100k...
@@OlJackBurton I was referring to the Caligraphy trim (bc I’m pretty sure that’s the trim that gets both) and the base trim on the full size ones but yea if you compare top trim to top trim then for sure it’s like 40k-50k+ more
@@nancy8269 The Limited has heated and ventilated second row seats. The Calligraphy doesn't really have any actual features over the Limited besides mostly cosmetic changes like a different grill, nicer leather on the doors and steering wheel, unique exterior lighting accents, different wheels (20 inch), and only comes in AWD. Loaded to loaded, the Navigator and Palisade have over a $60k difference and the Navigator still doesn't have a ventilated second row.
Also, the lowest trim Navigator is still $30k more and is missing features on the Calligraphy or Limited AWD like 3 years of complementary maintenance, longer warranties, AWD, panoramic roof or any moonroof, the aforementioned ventilated or heated rear seats, third row USB ports, no thigh extension, HUD, adaptive cruise and 360 camera which comes in handy for such a large vehicle...

I personally think the Escalade is too flashy, with most of their selling points being just marketing fluff, which GM has always been good at. The Navigator really follows Lincoln’s mantra of Quiet Luxury, all while delivering a comfortable ride in a sleek and subtle package that oozes elegance like their cars from the 50s and 60s.
The Lincoln Navigator is due for redesign. My choice is definitely the new Cadillac Escalade.
It was just redesigned in 2018! But youre right, the new escalade does make the navigator look ancient. Especially with all its tech like supercruise, night vision, crazy camera views, etc.
Refresh is due end of the year.

The Slade' in my mind goes that one step further to make you feel stand out and feel special. It tows more, has better in-cabin tech. Finally Caddy's large SUV is a formidable rival.

Not really, ignore the big screen the and quality of the interior in the Escalade is way worse and you can’t even get a center console in the second row like the navigator
I think the Escalade has a nicer infotainment system. But the overall interior I give to the Lincoln. Especially those seats.

Lincoln upped the ante in 2019 and for a couple years the navi was untouchable but jeep and Cadillac fired back so hard i don't think ford was prepared

I have been in the 2021 Escalade and the new navigator. The seats in the Escalade were not comfortable. A little bit too firm, too wide, and too flat. The seats in the navigator are fantastic! The additional technology in the Escalade is cool, and I like the console shifter in the Escalade better. However, for my money, I would take the navigator. Plus, a simple tuning kit will get five hundred horsepower easily in the Navigator.
Just bought a 21 Navigator standard! Picking up this weekend.
While plenty of people still like the Lincoln design language, I think new Cadillac design makes this look archaic inside and out. It also gives the driver the visceral connection to a V-8 while Lincoln provides the power but pipes fake engine noises into the cabin (not sure if they do that in this Navi). I'd go for the Caddy all day long (but will likely buy a Yukon Denali).

Love this beast. Not a huge fan of the awkward shark fin antenna up front though. It almost looks like an afterthought. Aside that, beastly beast of an SUV

Was looking last year at the 8 pass vehicles… ended up getting a 2019 Escalade ESV. I have a 2014 Ford Explorer we bought new with the 3.5 twin turbo; at 132K we had the engine torn apart and rebuilt. The caddy is 6.2 naturally aspirated, so big engine doing work vs. a small engine with big HP getting wore out… 2019 caddy still had a solid axle for towing… Ford didn’t. On top of it, the dealer had a 20K off MSRP due to being a year-end-close out. That puts it on a price point equal to an expedition or suburban. On a side note another thing that I like about the caddy, when I pop the hood, I can see asphalt! Not with any of my Ford products, they seem to fill the engine bay with crap; which then has the potential to fail…
Overall we shall see if I am happy with the purchase long term. I told my parents that I didn’t think I was old enough to own a caddy! But if I purchase something as expensive as a new vehicle, want it to last! So mad at my Explorer!

It's a tough choice!
Get the Navigator! We test drove both. We went with the Navi back in November, black then put some 24" black rhino Kruger's in black. The car is gangster! More elegant on the inside and in my opinion looks way better on the outside. The Escalade just looks like a huge square Tahoe. Not to mention it hauls ass for a 6,000 lb. Truck.
Live that black on black on black. But the design on the Escalade speak more modern. I wish you can explain the definition of modern to Lexus
Escalade OVER Navigator. The screen killed it all for me. Escalades infotainment is something special.
I traded my 2020 Escalade in for a 2020 Lincoln navigator Black label. Should have went with my gut and bought the navigator to start. Will never buy another Cadillac ever again.

The navigator certainly has its strengths but the escalade is overall the better vehicle. The cheap looking dashboard and laggy screens don't help its cause.
One major oversight on both the nav and esc are no vented second row seats

I agree with you 100% on the entertainment screen, I said the same thing a few weeks ago about it having so much wasted real estate... My 2020 Lincoln aviator was brought in for service and they gave me a navigator as a loaner...

Buddy of mine just got rid of his explorer sport with that exact same engine setup.....nothing but problems. Gonna have to stick with a "normally aspirated v-8." The lack of a V8 option is this beautiful suv has me heading to the other dealer.

2021 Escalade is significantly nicer than the Navigator.. we just test drove both this weekend, ordering the Escalade Sport.....The interior of the navigator has some cheap looking parts, while Escalade is all A plus. my only knock on Cadillac is the fuel efficiency vs the Navigator...However if you're spending 90k you can afford the gas...
The Front grill of the Escalade knocks it out of the park!!! The Dash is also a no contest in favor of the Escalade....Great Job on the review... What's with all the candy & donut comments??? LOL

What features does it have that the Escalade does not? Navigator doesn't have Air suspension, a diesel, a cooler in the center console, augmented reality Nav, night vision.

The Top line Tahoe has Heated rear seats so of course the Escalade has heated rear seats, it does not have more tech either, can the Navi drive itself on the highway? No, I listed the features that make the Escalade more tech heavy then the Navi, when countless Reviewers have said the Escalade Build quality has matched the Germans in most terms I'll believe them over you. I doubt you've compared when the Escalades are just hitting dealer lots.

Lincoln must be doing something good as the Escalade dominated the luxury suv market for years and years. This Competition gave us the 2021 Escalade, which is just perfect.
Finally my favorite American SUV
Lincoln or Caddy/GMC/Chevy - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But when it comes to quality and dependability, Lincoln (Ford) hasn't done well lately. May not matter of you lease. But as a buyer, I would choose any of the three GM SUVs.
I'm surprised the 2nd row seats are not ventilated. I just bought an Aviator and the 2nd row is both heated and ventilated.
Lol good point on the reverse camera! I'd expect the view to be alot bigger but instead it's small and there's so much empty screen around it, that pretty disappointing considering it's an 80k dollar car
Also I feel like this car should have had so much more potential, some. Parts are great but I feel like they could've added a bit more

I’ll take a navigator over anything that GM puts out. However I do prefer a V-8 under the hood rather than a 6 cylinder turbo. Just my opinion though. I’m sure we’ll see a new design in the very near future from Lincoln.
