  • I took the Discovery out in the rain the other morning. Conditions were great, but the deep holes at the bottom of this trail reminded me that I need to start looking at a locking differential or two.
    Once again, the view at the top was thwarted by rain and clouds.

    this is the most well put together 4wd video i've seen. excellent footage, no unnecessary voice over, no clickbait, no monetisation strategies, chill music, and every shot is showing the car actually driving. the footage is seamless and makes me feel like i'm there. just an enjoyable video to watch.

    I had a Disco 1 in southern Africa a number of years ago and loved it -- drove it everywhere. By the time I was finished, there wasn't much paint left on the sides nor much straight sheet metal, but that doesn't affect how it ran -- which was great. Both it and I had a ton of fun.

    Very good video. I had difficulty against the D1's during an outing once.. My range rover LWB had less ground clearance and wasn't locked on both ends, like the disco I was up against. Also it was raining like crazy, and I haven't been in the rain for 20 years as I live in California.. I have made some changes since then. made mine less susceptible to damage and since it has scratches now I am ready for adventure, and will be less nervous about all my restoration work being damaged, lol Maybe I will see you out there on the trail one day.. They are great rigs those discovery's, I think the Range rover can keep up though. It was embarrassing though. lol

    I read all the consumption figures and I just smile, my 96 only gets 7-8mpg on the best of days. Running 285/75R16s and a 1:4 Defender transfer case at the moment but will change ratios on my differentials soon and hopefully that will give me more power and better consumption.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  Рік тому

      Do you have stock differential gearing now? I think my next set of tires will be 285/75r16. Basically the same diameter I have now, but wider. I’d really like lower gearing.

    • @DiscoInferno166
      @DiscoInferno166 Рік тому +1

      @@tfrasca142 yes, stock gearing with the 1:4 ratio transfer case makes for a nice and driveable Disco. The 1:2 that is standard on the Disco was just battling to get her moving with the bigger wheels. With the beefier Ashcroft ring and pinion set she will probably have a lot more low down grunt. I end up in 1st gear low range far to often on steeper obstacles.

    Enjoyed your video. One Question I have is how have you like the KM3 255/85-16 tires? I am thinking of going to these; currently have 235/85-16 all seasons from previous owner. Also have OME lift and shocks with rear fender trimmed on back side. Did you have to trim the front’s any?

    How did you get so much Flex besides sway bar disconnect?
    I feel like the three or four inch lift kits have really stiff Springs to help drivability on the road but off-road just makes them more top-heavy and not much Flex. How do I find tall Springs that are soft? I'm afraid to buy the three or four in Terra Firma or ome kits not knowing if they are soft or really stiff just made for looks

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  Рік тому +1

      I have the Terrafirma 2" Pro Sport lift, and I chose "medium" springs. They don't seem too stiff at all. The Pro Sport lift has 2" longer shocks to match the lift, which is how I get so much down travel. I also have dislocation cones in the back because the springs unseat at full droop.
      I also put 1" spacers under the springs for a little more clearance when I put the 33" tires on. Overall, the setup works pretty well. The dislocation cones are a bit noisy, but they works perfectly.
      I just ordered extended brake lines, because I want to take the front sway bar off soon to get the front flexing a bit more.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  Рік тому +1

      Also, I forgot to mention I removed the rear sway bar. Big difference.
