I am an African American Jew, I am 52 years old and I have accomplished all the things I have wanted to do and worked hard to attain those things. I have had hardships, yes, certainly I have. However, I have never felt oppressed nor have I used my skin tone as some kind of weapon against others or myself. I went to nursing school in the 80’s with a 4.0 GPA but I am intelligent so it never entered my mind to use my skin tone and not my mind. It is crazy that Black people do this and then whine and cry and victimize themselves to say America in 2024 is basically 1800 and they are enslaved on some plantation. I si ply do not understand if having a Black skin tone = oppression, why did my family, my community, that are African American Jews living amongst African American Christians and never once did we discuss being oppressed. Why?….

I have taught in a University in LA. One of my bright AA student told me that she was going to help people recover from oppression. She was very beautiful, articulate in speech, intelligent, and very successful in career. I didn’t challenge her but thought, “We are in Los Angeles, not in Selma 1963. I must have missed the Klan marches.”

In the 1940s I attended NYC public school and I was the only Protestant kid in a class of Irish and Italian Catholics and they bullied me. Within my own family I was bullied by different Protestant groups. I took the exam for Stuyvesant a high a school. Because it was academically superior it was mostly a Jewish student body. I was warned that these Jewish street kids would bully me. They accepted me. There was no hint of religious discrimination. They befriended me I will never forget that. I’ve been called a Jew lover. If one could select a group to love they couldn’t go wrong by loving the Jews.
