Ustad Shabir Nisar - Tabla Solo - Teentaal - Farrukhabad Gharana

A vintage clip from 1986 featuring the late tabla maestro Ustad Shaikh Dawood's son, Ustad Shabir Nisar (1960-) perform a solo in the 16 beat rhythm cycle Teen Taal in a concert in New Delhi. He is accompanied by Esraj player Ustad Allaudin Khan. The audience comprises of seasoned musicians including the legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar who can be seen during the performance at around 20:00 minutes.
Ustad Shabir Nisar is amongst the finest tabla players associated with the Farrukhabad Gharana, he has inherited a treasure trove of tabla repertoire from the Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farrukhabad and Punjab gharanas from his father, the legendary Ustad Shaikh Dawood of Hyderabad, often referred to as the 'Ustad Thirakwa of the South'.
