Yogesh Samsi is one of India’s leading tabla soloists, pushing the instrument’s boundaries and furthering the work of his guru Alla Rakha. Son of esteemed singers Dinkar Kaikini and Shashikala Kaikini, he began playing at age six under Taranath Rao, a guru renowned for his knowledge of rare and ancient talas. At age ten he commenced a 23-year discipleship under Alla Rakha, building a distinctive command of the Punjab gharana. He has accompanied a broad sweep of top Hindustani artists, as well as touring widely and visiting the UK each year to teach his own tabla curriculum.

shame about that annoying melodian
The annoying melodian (the harmonium) you call shame is a time keeper, which is an extremely tough job when it comes to a tabla solo performance. He is a brilliant musician. I feel pity for you! Pea brain!
Yogesh is a great tabla-player, I thought, and I’ve booked his Masterclass-Jhaptaal-course (2x 90 min. Online-course for 85$) to get some more compositions to practice without steeling them on UA-cam. I’m over 50 years old and can’t remember tabla-compositions as I used to 25y ago, so it was more a method keeping my mind sharp and get some contact with like-minded people. Both on the website and in the stream-introduction we were told, that we get a pdf-file with the notation and a video of the stream, so I was more listening than notating his compositions by hand. But I didn’t get anything even weeks later and all my mail-requests end in silence, so I think he’s a scumbag. I actually filed a PayPal-complain for not getting what I’ ve paid for and just got his first Kayda base written down, which is technically a horrible one and certainly won’t make you better or will be played by any master. I’m playing tabla since 30 years and know which ones are great and which ones don’t. The 2nd day was definitely more like I was expecting, but without notation it was basically useless. I’m sure others got the files promised and I’m one of the only ones with empty hands, but instead of having a good time and getting a fraction of his knowledge I got nothing other than a horrible aftermath. IMO I need to warn people about horrible persons like Yogesh Samsi.
