I really appreciate you making this video and being so thorough. I originally saw it after buying a used Avalanche that had that whole system blown out. I did watch it all, but had my sites set on one of those "leveling" kits instead, thinking that would be an upgrade. VERY LONG story short, after 3 months of headaches, back-and-forth with suppliers and shock/strut versions, I came full circle back to this. (Plan D) Just finished the job last night--with your help! There were a few videos out there that were good, but they always cut out the most important part--how it all connects!
Really glad this helped you out! So many people can't troubleshoot the air ride system so they act as if it should be converted, but it's actually a darn good rear suspension, particularly if you tow.

This video is the best video I have seen on the z55…I bought a Denali Yukon that had service ride suspension and I never fixed it thinking it was just too complicated. Now I bought an 09 suburban ltz and was able to diagnose the system using the video…replaced the compressor and shocks. Now the system works. Was able to see the rear left level sensor was bad as well. Before this I went to an INDY GM shop and after mentioning service suspension system…first thing the guy said was “that will be an expensive undertaking “…the. Proceeded to tell me it was best to just do the conversion to regular shocks
I replaced my air-assist rear shocks with arnott products, and soon after the original air-pump with their unit....but that failed only a few months after installing. You're video will help me diagnose the pump before sending it back for a replacement. Excellent video on electrical diagnosis.
Thank you for the video. I replaced my air leveling compressor because it was struggling, then died. I put a new one in and it didn't work! I didn't know about fuse #2! Fuse was blown, it works great now, thank you!
This is the first video I’ve seen from your channel and I am thankful I found it. This really helped me a lot. Thanks for this informative video. At least I now know where to start. I am currently working on our 2012 Yukon XL. Sounds like our compressor still works. Now to check for leaks/faulty shocks.
I also replaced my problem system with a Suncore system. It lasted about 13months, likely less because I was unware of how often the compressor should actually run. It ran a lot. I reach out to Suncore via email. It took sometime but they eventually got back to me. They said they do not do warranty repairs unless installation was done by a certified mechanic. Luckily, my friend that assisted my installation is such. But they then same back with check this, check that, check this other thing. After about 10 emails and a few months of run around I am finished with them. I agree with Farm Dad dont purchase parts from Suncore. They are not reliable and their parts are junk; per my experience. thanks Farm Dad for the post.
Converted to air shocks in the rear. They have air hoses going to the rear hatch to be pressurized. Going to test them soon and leak check the shocks. Some of the original air lines and wiring is still there. Hoping to get the dash lights to turn out. Also didn't see any ride height sensors. Know anything about the front shocks and ride height sensors? I may go traditional or lowered suspension in the future.
Thanks for the video. I'm pretty mechanical myself, enough that I did the front CV axles and motor mounts on my 2008 Escalade EXT pretty easy. But what takes the most time and frustration is not knowing the quickest way to gain access to a bolt or what the bolt size is. Your video will help me on my next task which is hunting down a leak on my rear air ride suspension. I can hear it leaking down and I think it is coming from the point where the tube goes in to the shock on the driver side.
I'm a mechanically illiterate 76 year old but I enjoyed your video nonetheless. Guys like you are geniuses! How you can take all those pieces apart and put them back together and they work is a mystery to me. I just ordered a replacement air ride shock and compressor kit from Westar Brand through Auto Buffy for my 150K miles '09 Avalanche. I hope I made a good choice but what do I know? Your video validated why I think so highly of your special skills. You have a beautiful family, too. Good job young man! (Great hair, too.)

Great video thanks for sharing. Side note: I had a OEM GM dealership front strut side by side with an Arnott they were Identical both made in Mexico by BWI only difference was GM part # and GM packaging vs Arnott label and packaging. The GM pair cost $800 more and had a 35% restocking fee for returns. My original struts from the factory original were a different part #, but the dealership did not have that part number on file and assured me they current one purchased was correct. Arnott are same as OEM GM however there may be different levels of quality. Good luck DIY people
Dude, thank you so much for this video. My dad's Escalade just recently had an issue with the suspension. I haven't started working on it yet but the compressor still seems to work, so I was just going to replace the shocks since I might as well do both so that they don't fail later somewhere down the line. I ALMOST bought the ones that you said are junk. I REALLY appreciate that. My dad has the money for the OEM part, so I think I will go that route too. With the cheap parts being so much cheaper, it seems that they are so cheap for a reason. Thanks again man! I will be following your steps when I do it :)
@@FarmDad Hey, I love my family. I do car work for all of them. Plus, I am a software engineer and it is nice to get outta this damn chair every now and then haha THanks for the comment!
Hopefully you still read comments. I need help. 2011 Yukon Denali. Airbags were worn out and compressor died recently. Followed your video. I ordered the kit from A1Auto LKQ brand. Installed it following yours and their video. Worked for about a week. Next thing I know, bags don't fill. Nor does the compressor kick on unless I bypass #30/87 pins. I think the lines have blockage OEM since compressor makes are but couldn't feel it from the small lines. However, the compressor still doesn't engage trying to fill. The fuses you had us check also are fine. Relay is ok even tried new one to make sure.
I ran into the same issue with suncore. Their air pump failed after 6 months and they would not respond. I finally gave up and disassembled it. The rubber gasket was garbage and wasn't installed properly causing water to get inside corroding everything. I went with Arnott for the new pump and for their reman shock absorbers. The Arnott air pump is still going strong 9 years later. The Arnott shock absorbers lasted 9 years before the rubber started getting tiny air holes and leaking. The OEM ones only got 5 years before leaking. I'm good with replacing them every 9 years and was happily surprised they lasted that long.
I got you my bro this knowelgde is helping me out big time. Much love I appreciate you and everything you do for us working class Joe's. I'm tired of getting over charged when I know I can do it myself I just need the right direction. Subbed
Great video. Thanks. Arnott is a great company out of Florida. They stand behind their parts 100%. I have used them for 13 years and never had a problem.
Hay Farm Dad! Thanks for your help. Great job! I am new to the z55 on my Tahoe. I have a good understanding of it now . I see you have helped many. THANKS!
Wish I'd seen your video earlier. I replaced my rear air shocks and compressor on an '04 Escalade Z55 with Suncore parts. Eight months later the compressor sounds like a jackhammer and runs all the time. I still need to crawl under it to determine if it is a shock or an air line leak. And disassemble the compressor, it is so loud now that my wife is embarrassed to drive it.
Good video info.! I used Arnott Air Suspension parts (pump and shocks) on my 93 Lincoln Town Car. Company was in Florida so I got delivery to SC fairly quick . No problem with their parts. Now I have an 08 Chevy Suburban that has a non running pump. So I’m sure Arnott will be getting my business again. After I check my fuses. Thanks for the tips.

They may have been out for a video shot where just the camera went under or something, but they are always under the car when I'm under. I need to rewatch the video to see what y'all are seeing, but I have 4, so maybe people are just seeing the spares or something. Either way, thanks for your support and concern.
Thanks for the video we checked our air pump relay and fuses underhood all are working. Pump doesnt come on unless while testing it with jumper wire. Have any guidance where to go from here? Caddilac 2010 Escalade
What where the driving symptoms that made you look into the suspension? Mine is bouncy n all over the road when hitting a bump while turning or even driving straight feels sketchy. Thanks for the info definitely earned a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Hey dude thanks a lot I've been wondering what the rattle is when I start my car as soon as I heard your noisy air pump it made me realize it's definitely my air pump every 5 minutes when I first start the car in the morning.
Loved the video and the admonishment of Suncor Industries. One thing you should seriously consider. When working with wrenches and other heavy lifting like you are doing here, REMOVE YOUR RINGS! That is if you value your ring finger. Anyone that has been in the Army and visited the motorpool can attest to the gruesome posters of guy's skeletized ring finger that has been stripped of all the meat. It's fast and easy to be safe. Just slip it in your pocket.
Amazing video! Just replaced the air compressor in my 2011 Tahoe LTZ and works great. Only thing Is it raised the back end to high. Do I need to replace the height sensors?
For the rear top bolt's. I just got some tin snip's and trimmed the splash guard some to clear the bolt. No need to remove the whole inner fender liner.
There are literally dozens and dozens of repairing z55 suspensions on the web, from what I've watched so far yours is one of the best, but how come no body in the videos I've watched mentions the price of a compressor or where to get a replacement?
I wish, I had that easy access to that control block/relay, I got hybrid variant, and it is covered with extra wiring. Probably I just disconnect my compressor and check if it works also check is I have incoming power to the compressor.
Hello there, great video. I replaced my compressor and repaired a rubbed thru wire by the drivers side rear shock. The compressor won't turn on at startup but will turn on if the car gets loaded down with weight. Any ideas?
Question: If the jumper from #30 to #87 actually fired up the compressor, with the relay working as you tested, then where would you go? Each shock connector?
Does it come on at startup? If it does, I would check the ride height sensors. If it doesn't, it could be your air ride module. It's best if you can pull suspension codes, which requires an advanced scanner. Sometimes it's worth paying a diagnostic fee at a local shop. Good luck.
Awesome video on this issue , I appreciate the value you just added to my life. Thank you and God bless, keep up the great work Farm Dad. A+ This is a video to be proud of.
Very helpful video. I do have one question. I got the click on my relay but when I jumped 30 to 87 using the wire, it didn’t do anything. No spark or anything. What does that mean? Any help would be appreciated.
Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I ended up pulling the compressor off and testing it straight to the battery and got nothing. So, new compressor is ordered and will be here Saturday. Again, your video really helped me tackle something that I thought was outside of my abilities. I appreciate it!
One clarification may be in order Farm Dad... It is my understanding that the "Air" components you address all throughout your video and text are actually NOT part of Z55 Autoride, but are instead part of the G69 AutoAir Level Control RPO code which is usually on the Denali and Escalade. Air only goes to the rear shocks. The Z55 Autoride suspension is the Magnetic (electric, not "air") components on all 4 front and rear shocks. (Some expert should please correct me if I'm wrong.) This was a very good video. I love your feedback about your horrible Suncore Industries experience too. Good to know!
It's my understanding that z55 is the suspension code, which refers to the autoride suspension where you are correct, computer-controlled shocks all around with air in the back. Z95 refers to the magneride suspension. Thank you for watching.
@@FarmDad Excellent, Farm Dad. Just found that Z55 in a 2007-up always includes G69 "level control" which is just the RPO code for the air compressor component bolted to the frame and pumps up the rear air shocks.

It's a shame Suncore is still selling these.
Good tip using the soap solution to find the leaks! I drive GM so it’s been a useful video!! Thanks for sharing 👍

I got you my bro this knowelgde is helping me out big time. Much love I appreciate you and everything you do for us working class Joe's. I'm tired of getting over charged when I know I can do it myself I just need the right direction.
Subbed
Thanks so much!
Great video. Thanks. Arnott is a great company out of Florida. They stand behind their parts 100%. I have used them for 13 years and never had a problem.
Awesome
Hay Farm Dad! Thanks for your help. Great job! I am new to the z55 on my Tahoe. I have a good understanding of it now . I see you have helped many. THANKS!
Enjoy your new vehicle!
I could not see which pins you touched to the battery to test the old and new compressor but none the less its a dam Great video...
Sorry about that!
@@FarmDad no problem bro,its the best video on the net...
I definitely learned the hard way too.
Thank you for this video I learned from you, thanks from Saudi Arabia
When checking the reley harness does the truck have to be on to get the 12v reading?
Solid videos that can truly help a lot of people out in the day to day!
I've also been happy with the Arnotts so far.
Thanks so much for the Video. It was great. May I ask how the shocks and compressor are doing 2.5 years later. Any challlenges or failures yet? Thanks
Hi ! Thanks for video great info and a lot help for me
I replace rear air shock and work perfect but not sure about front one ! Can you tell me how can I make sure is the front good or bad without opening
My air pump work 10 secound very few day ones and rear hold air perfect but not sure about front
I took the front valve off but no air come out is sound right or I’m wrong
No check engine or warning at all
Even obd not show anything bad
The front shocks actually aren't air shocks and are not part of the air suspension system. The front are electronically controlled gas shocks.
@@FarmDad thank you so much 🙏🏻🤩
Wow. Such a knowledge in your stuff(Vehicles) friend. In our place, it takes lots of good mechanics to know that..small repair, big money for them
Great detail here in this video! Appreciate the time it took to make this! New subscribers here! Excited to see what 2020 brings you!
Thank you!
Posted in January and you're wearing shorts? Where do you live because I'm ready to move. Great video by the way.
Arkansas, but I probably filmed this long before I posted it!
Thanks Man ! You video help me alot to fix my air ride on my gmc Denali .
Glad it helped!
Use your jack stands!!! Just saw them off to the side not under truck. Maybe opitilcal illiullion. Great video as l see a lot of these with the same problems. Thanks
They may have been out for a video shot where just the camera went under or something, but they are always under the car when I'm under. I need to rewatch the video to see what y'all are seeing, but I have 4, so maybe people are just seeing the spares or something. Either way, thanks for your support and concern.
I'm a knucklehead when it comes to anything related to mech... thanks for supporting my channel... let's stay connected
Nice vid... all my air shocks are blown and im sure the compressor is bad on my escalade 😅
Hope this helps get you all taken care of.
@@FarmDad for sure, 👊😎🫡
Thanks for the video we checked our air pump relay and fuses underhood all are working. Pump doesnt come on unless while testing it with jumper wire. Have any guidance where to go from here? Caddilac 2010 Escalade
I have the same issue. I spent the money on the control module and still nothing. Does the control module need programming?
Thank you Suncorp can you please give this man his money back!!!!!
Great video and easy ti follow instructions. Was able to troubleshoot using this video on 2015 suburban rear air shocks. Thank you!
Nice video. It will help people who face the problem for fixed it.
What where the driving symptoms that made you look into the suspension? Mine is bouncy n all over the road when hitting a bump while turning or even driving straight feels sketchy. Thanks for the info definitely earned a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! It was riding rough and in turns it leaned really bad. Felt like it had no shocks at all.
The most informative video that I have watched about the suspension of the GM with air ride. Thanks so much.
Glad to hear. Thank you!
Hey dude thanks a lot I've been wondering what the rattle is when I start my car as soon as I heard your noisy air pump it made me realize it's definitely my air pump every 5 minutes when I first start the car in the morning.
One of those weird car noises that you actually want to hear every time you start it! 😂
Thanks for the heads up on Suncore.
I normally hate to be negative, but Suncore definitely did folks wrong.
Good advice. I'm notoriously bad at forgetting to remove my ring.
Thanks farm dad for such a indepth formative tutorial. Also thanks for the word to the wise, because i have no money to waste.:)
I can totally relate!
Amazing video! Just replaced the air compressor in my 2011 Tahoe LTZ and works great. Only thing Is it raised the back end to high. Do I need to replace the height sensors?
Hey Dad. On my 2008 LTZ Tahoe, I’ve replaced my air schools with Bilsteins. Is there a fuse I can pull to turn off the dash warning message.
Did you find a way to remove a fuse and get rid of the dash warning message?
Thanks for the review of Suncore trash shocks
I liked how you labeled the bottle..Because it's a good idea to do so.
Thanks for the video bud! Was able to test out my compressor and got it replaced easily
Glad it helped!
Good thing I watch you video, I was looking into buying the suncore shocks I guess I'm not buying them now
For the rear top bolt's. I just got some tin snip's and trimmed the splash guard some to clear the bolt. No need to remove the whole inner fender liner.
He did a damn good job. I appreciate your info, especially about suncorp shocks. I read bad things about them.
Thanks man. Just trying to help other people avoid the headaches I had with that company.
Arnott shocks is what I used to replace on my 2002 Cadillac Escalade Ext front and rear.
How do you like them..
Do you have a video on the front Air shocks my 2014 has bags that are flat does the compressor work the front shocks ?
Great video, understood everything because you did step by step. Going to do the check list first, hopefully it's a fuse or relay. Thanks
Thank you, hope it helps you get yours fixed.
Very useful, and informative video, and walkthrough, thanks for sharing. Hope you have a good night.
There are literally dozens and dozens of repairing z55 suspensions on the web, from what I've watched so far yours is one of the best, but how come no body in the videos I've watched mentions the price of a compressor or where to get a replacement?
One place is Arnott industries
I wish, I had that easy access to that control block/relay, I got hybrid variant, and it is covered with extra wiring. Probably I just disconnect my compressor and check if it works also check is I have incoming power to the compressor.
Hello new friend! nice upload...lot of information...thanks for visiting and your beautiful comment...
I WISH YOU WHERE IN MEMPHIS TN!!! I have a 09 Yukon Denali and I'm experiencing the same issue but I've replaced my shocks and compressor.
You may need to use a scanner that can read suspension codes, like a tech 2.
I bet you cant get the shocks to air up. If I’m right reply back and I’ll help you out
Fantastic video Farm Dad!
Thank you! Hope it helped.
Awesome video! really helped me choose a rear shock replacement. Thank you!! Do you have an opinion on front strut brands?
Afraid I haven't done any testing on the fronts. If you replace yours, check back in with your recommendation!
Five thumbs up !!! Great job with the video. I learned a lot !! Thank you !!
Wow, five! Thanks man!
Hello there, great video. I replaced my compressor and repaired a rubbed thru wire by the drivers side rear shock. The compressor won't turn on at startup but will turn on if the car gets loaded down with weight. Any ideas?
that's how mine is it turns on randomly
@@yahvisionz mine turned out to be the new pump I purchased. After I replaced it, it worked great.
Could you please put the link for good air ride you put in the last minutes 👍🏼
Nice job, this will help a great deal in replacing the air ride suspension in my Escalade... Thanks for the video.
Good luck.
Like #10 really good information thanks for sharing friend 😍👍
I have no power coming to the relay plug you tested at the beginning? Do I have to start tracing wires?
Awesome video on this issue , I appreciate the value you just added to my life. Thank you and God bless, keep up the great work Farm Dad. A+ This is a video to be proud of.
Appreciate your kindness
Awesome share farm dad.. I to is dealing with a bad compressor and your video helped big Thanks
Glad to help
Your video is very informative, good idea to use soap solution to see the leaks.
Thank you. I know know what to do if I purchase a vehicle that has a known bad shock. I'll likely need the compressor and at least one shock.
Most welcome!
Very helpful video. I do have one question. I got the click on my relay but when I jumped 30 to 87 using the wire, it didn’t do anything. No spark or anything. What does that mean? Any help would be appreciated.
Your air compressor is likely bad. You won't always see the spark I saw. Mine was shorted out somewhere.
Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I ended up pulling the compressor off and testing it straight to the battery and got nothing. So, new compressor is ordered and will be here Saturday. Again, your video really helped me tackle something that I thought was outside of my abilities. I appreciate it!
@@dmfjam happy to help!
🕵thanks for the tips & procedures to get rid of that air ride problem - as a pro mech i dont need to hit the books with you as a guide my man 🎥👀👍
Glad to help!
Great video. What type of relay is it? I am trying to find which one to buy.
(Some expert should please correct me if I'm wrong.)
This was a very good video.
