Wood By Wright I'm not the right guy but I definitely would go to it if there was one in Socal. everything is so expensive out here, though. They sell $5 bills for $20, lol
James, enjoyed the tool meet video. I appreciate you putting a,plug in for the MWTCA I'm a member here in N.C. and we have 3 meets in N.C. each year. I guess you know Roy Underhill is a member and lives in N.C. He attends some of the meetings. Take care and God bless.
hands down, THE BEST place to get a quality antique tool for a fair price. Also home to more hand tool knowledge than anywhere else too. I hope to see you in 2018 at Cedar Rapids! - Daniel
James, looks like a great place to go broke. I'm thinking though that if you're looking for tool bargains this is NOT the place to buy as these folks all know what their tools are worth. The education and discussion with them would still make it a worthwhile trip.
I'm in Texas, but my wife's from MO, and I hope I can visit one of these when I go to MO. This is amazing! It also seems like y'all are trying to get one here in TX. Here's for hoping. thanks for sharing.
Had to rewatch this one too, I keep thinking about how much I could spend if money wasn't an issue and only buying things to use resto etc nothing just because it's cheap or knickknacky.
+mo_feezy that is a coopers plane it would be flipped upside down with legs on one end. There you run he work over the plane rather then the plane o we the work.
Contact the MWTCA board and they would gladly help you. www.mwtca.org/contact-us/12-contacts/8-ed.html you would need to find a location and set everything up but there are already people around you that would be interested. and I could even put the word out for you. it would be smaller the first year or so but would build with time.
I would like to go to one of these shows but when I went to the MWTCA website it is showing a meet that happened in 2017. I wasn't able to see anything coming up at all but there is a COVID-19 statement. I would like to know about other meets if anybody knows of any along with the website to go to.
Most all the meats are currently canceled. If you see an old date that is the last time it was held at that location. they keep those up just so that people know that there is sometimes a sale at that location. You can also contact the manager of that sale and see if they have plans on holding it again. If you're looking for a map with locations I would say go to handtoolfinder.com.
THE PROBLEM with many/most tool collectors is that they don't use the tools-or even have the schools-which, like New Yorkers moving into rural communities, jacks the price way up for regular woodworkers. Sure they preserve antique and rare tools, but the bread and butter tools are hard to afford most often as well.
Surprisingly the price on most hand tools is set by users. Not collectors. Especially in the last 5 years or so the prices have been going up mostly due to the huge influx of new users
Oh man James what are you doing to me. There should be a WARNING before so I could have paper towels to clean my mess lol. I have to echo Johnny's comment I'd go broke there. All joking aside awesome video and thank you for the show clips.
My family doesn’t do much of these and won’t drive hours for this so are there any reliable online sources you recommend to buy old antique like tools for cheap? Or wroth the price? I’m looking for the Stanley no 4 plane thanks!!!
You lucky guy you 😱😱👍🏼👍🏼🇨🇦 Wow if i know a place like this near my house for sure i’ll take a lown from the bank and i’ll have some fun buying every thing i want 😂🤣😂😄😎 Naaaa i’m going to be late for my rent is all 😱🤣 Man dreams what can they make you do or think ! To be 16 again with the money power that i have right now .... hmmmm Have a nice day and keep these videos up and going i love them 👍🏼🇨🇦
we have a few in other countries now and want to get a cole started in Canada. all we need is someone to host it and do the footwork on the ground and we can get people there for it.
God I wish I lived in America. We have nothing like this that I'm a ware of. I had all my tools stolen in the 80's and because I had no need for them at the time I didn't get them money short etc my work had changed to more metal ( I'm a coachbuilder by the way ) but now I have a grandson that want to be like his grandfather and I'm looking for hand tools that I had that I was given to by my father who was a wheelwright. I had two Diston saws and other tools but I wish I could find the saws the most so I can show my grandson how to use and sharpen proper saws. Then problem is here in the UK 🇬🇧 the tool collects have bumped the price so high that the normal man can't afford them you talk about them as if they a peanuts in the states god I wish I could come to your wonderful country with an empty suitcase and fill it with wonderful hand tools so I can't teach him like I was by my dad. If you could help me I would appreciate it you must here this all the time but honestly I'm real cheers if you read this
we would gladly help and guide in any way possible. the big thing is just getting someone on the grown that knows the location and is willing to do the footwork.
I just recently got into Woodworking and I'm so enamored and mesmerized by old tools, looks like I have a lot to learn
+cattlike curiosity there is always more to learn but so much fun.

+Ron Mack yup. He is a great inspiration to me. I have never been to a meet in NC but one of these days I might have to make the trip.
Thanks for the update. I passed your video on to several friends and relatives.
+Dan Husker sweet. Thanks Dan.
Heaven. I'd love to host a meeting up in Saskatchewan.
+Hand Tool Rescue you should. That would be sweet. Message the board.
On it!
Hand Tool Rescue if only you could find a nice wide open flat area to host it...
Nothing like that around here...
Congrats on the new scroll saw she's a beauty.
+Ty Goodman thanks. Looking forward to getting her to work!
i have the luck to have a Stanley #51 shooting plane and #52 shooting board
+Paulo Dias nice. It is on my list. One of these says.
I had no idea they made a shooting board. I sense a disturbance in my bank account....
hands down, THE BEST place to get a quality antique tool for a fair price. Also home to more hand tool knowledge than anywhere else too. I hope to see you in 2018 at Cedar Rapids! - Daniel
+Elk Point Tool Co planning on being there.
James, looks like a great place to go broke. I'm thinking though that if you're looking for tool bargains this is NOT the place to buy as these folks all know what their tools are worth. The education and discussion with them would still make it a worthwhile trip.
+Pat M yup, but a lot of the hard to fond tools can not be found other places.
Of course!! They're held by the craftsmen that use them. ;-)
Really cool James, looks like a great time!
+Fred McIntyre yes it was. Thanks fred.
Great info....looks like you had an awesome time.
+Brad Knecht yes I did
I'm in Texas, but my wife's from MO, and I hope I can visit one of these when I go to MO. This is amazing!
It also seems like y'all are trying to get one here in TX. Here's for hoping. thanks for sharing.
+MMOGood2Go yup the goal. Is to eventually have them in every state.

+Cajón de Sastre lol yup

+James Cromwell lol yup it is a must.
Had to rewatch this one too, I keep thinking about how much I could spend if money wasn't an issue and only buying things to use resto etc nothing just because it's cheap or knickknacky.
LOL money is always the issue!
Amazing! I wish there will be one in Europe too...

Nice, and In Portugal I do not know any, but we got ebay uk :D
Obrigado(Thanks)
what was the giant plane all about?
+mo_feezy that is a coopers plane it would be flipped upside down with legs on one end. There you run he work over the plane rather then the plane o we the work.
Wood By Wright cool. i was guessing it was for shipbuilding or something. thanks for the reply!
How would I find a tool show here in Portland Oregon?
+William York I do not know of any on the west coast, but the MWTCA is always looking for someone willing to host one.
So, what would it take to create an event in Portland Oregon?
Contact the MWTCA board and they would gladly help you. www.mwtca.org/contact-us/12-contacts/8-ed.html you would need to find a location and set everything up but there are already people around you that would be interested. and I could even put the word out for you. it would be smaller the first year or so but would build with time.

Wish there was something like this in the South =(
+Matthew Mohon start one and they will come. Contact MWTCA. It is not limited to the midwest.
Unfortunately, due to responsibilities, I barely get a chance to make it to my once a month woodworkers guild meetings.
I live in New Hampshire do you know of anything around here by any chance
+Eric Luba the world's best hand tool store is in southern main Liberty tools. But there is a MWTCA meet in PA

My family doesn’t do much of these and won’t drive hours for this so are there any reliable online sources you recommend to buy old antique like tools for cheap? Or wroth the price? I’m looking for the Stanley no 4 plane thanks!!!
Hyperkiten if my first place. There is no cheap place, but some times you can get lucky on eBay but it takes a lot of searching.
I would go broke at this.
+Woodnerd lol yup
Wood By Wright where is the next event?
Josh Swickard Memphis
I'm angry because before I got into woodworking I lived in Chatham, which is just next to Springfield. A few years too late and now I'm in florida😭😭
Sad I think the closest one to you is in NC, but yuo should start a MWTCA meet up in FL.
Please where this place tell sir
Handtoolfinder.com
If only we had this in Norway...
Ya there is not much over there. I don't have much on the map up there.
My credit card would not survive the trip!...lol.
+Jim Dockrell lol that is the problem.
Little expensive for me haha, i'll stick to FB marketplace and flea markets.
God I wish I lived in America. We have nothing like this that I'm a ware of. +David Chadwick I would love to fill a container and take it over there some time.
I am way too much of a cheapskate to pay 55 for a plow plane. The people there know what they have, you're not finding No 71's for 5 bucks haha.
Lucky Americans. I wish we had something even close to that in Europe.
+Philip T would love to start a few over there just need to find the right people to do it.
Wish I could have given you like $200 to score me some nice hand planes!
+Walter Kessler I might do that next time.
I can feel my wallet getting lighter already.
+Thomas O'Brien lol yup.
why do i have to live in britain :(
you should start one there the MWTCA wants to have meets around the world, and there are already members over there.
Wood By Wright my town is known for nothing and there isnt really anything here and id have no idea what to do to find members or start one james haha
we would gladly help and guide in any way possible. the big thing is just getting someone on the grown that knows the location and is willing to do the footwork.
Wood By Wright alright james i will look into it thx :)
