I literally just recommended your channel to one of my students not even 15 minutes ago and this is why. I always get excited when one of your videos come out. Thanks Shawn!
Thanks Shawn, I had used mine for the skill saw trick (portable fence), but the bandsaw trick was a forehead slapped. Thanks for opening my mind to alternative uses. I bought a box of 18 these at a flea market for
Is it destruction or modification? I love the protractor element of the plastic ones, but as you said they are not precise just good enough for construction. I would not use them for dovetails. I like the idea of turning them into clamps. Interesting! I have used two of them to draw parallel lines by separating them with 1-2-3 blocks and then drawing the lines once they have been squared up of course.
Speed Square is a trademark of the Swanson Tool Company, founded by one Albert Swanson, who invented this kind of square and started selling them in 1925. Swanson’s patent expired long ago, and other companies make very similar squares, but only the Swanson brand is sold under the name Speed Square. They are also called rafter squares, because their original purpose was figuring rafter angles (and they are still used for this), and “triangle squares,” which is an oxymoron.
Hi Gary Cooper - it must be a bad joke, that someone uses the trademark of a famous actor (his name) just to complain about the commonly accepted use of speed square for all kinds of rafter squares. May be You would like to teach us somewhat - You could try it with "synonym" ....
@@thilokumbernuss3994 Synonym? Try trademark infringement. But I don’t own the trademark, so it’s none of my business what you oh call that triangular object you got at the dollar store. Gary Cooper is my real name, by the way. It’s just a coincidence that a famous person has the same name.
Some times when I use my jigsaw it some times bounces, what am I doing wrong. It seems some times deferent woods Meranti ex but not with pine or plyboard. Do you have advise
What Happened to Tool Fool Friday #003? BTW, I never thought to cut up a speed square to make jigs. I'm going to have to do that. I only have about 5 of them... our locally-owned home improvement store gives them away for free at their yearly anniversary event.

There only other use I've found for them is dropping them into a groove on my shooting board to turn it into a mitered shooting board.
