  • Edmunds experts get behind the wheel of the 2017 Acura NSX for an acceleration test.
    Senior Writer Carlos Lago can't stop grinning as he demonstrates just how fast the all-new 2017 Acura NSX with its twin-turbo V6 can go in a straight line, taking the hybrid supercar on three runs on and off Track mode.
    Q. How fast is the Acura NSX?
    A. Acura estimates that 0-60-mph acceleration will take just 3.0 seconds. In this acceleration test, however, the 2017 Acura NSX's zero-to-60 times range from 3.2 seconds to 4.1 seconds, depending on whether the car is put in Track mode.
    Q. Is the Acura NSX all-wheel drive?
    A. Yes, the 2017 Acura NSX is a much more complex machine than its rear-wheel-drive predecessor, boasting all-wheel drive.
    Q. Is the Acura NSX electric?
    A. The all-new 2017 Acura NSX has a trio of electric motors for a full gasoline-electric hybrid experience.
    Q. How much is the Acura NSX 2017?
    A. The estimated Edmunds True Market Value is $157,800.

    Many moons ago when you guys shut down Inside Line and changed formats (to something a lot more sterile), I unsubscribed. But now that you have Carlos and gone back to a more interesting script, you've convinced me to re-subscribe again. I'll be honest, Carlos is a huge part of it because he's extremely watchable and makes these videos interesting. There's nothing worse than 10 minutes of monotone drone listing off boring stats from a sheet. Having a great host with lots of personality with a talent for being on camera is key.

    Every NSX has been my dream car... The first NSX was already a sexy, practical, reliable, somewhat affordable supercar classic. Though not as "groundbreaking", this thing stays true to its practical roots, while upping the ante in terms of style, performance and eco-tech.

    This, like the Dodge Viper before it, needs a price adjustment. At $100k this thing is just unstoppable. At $200k, so many other vehicles one would rather have.

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 7 років тому +3

      If one has had any vehicles at 200k you'd also understand cars at that price range spend a lot of time getting expensive services. The Viper was a winner and took on cars well above it's price range. It was a bargain for the price.
      The NSX gives you reliability which in the context of a test is hard to quantify. Ownership is what gives people an idea of what they're buying. Reliability has to be engineered as well. Suffice to say the 911 and GTR are the only ones close to the NSX in terms of that.

    • @apt62
      @apt62 7 років тому

    • @LegendInThaMakin
      @LegendInThaMakin 7 років тому +1

      vidurc yeah.. except a huracan and a 911 are extremely reliable cars. Virtually no issues what so ever no matter how hard you drive them so the reliability edge u think the acura has is non existent.
      what would really make the nsx sell would be a 100k price tag. Remember when the r35 gtr when it came out and was 60k destroying 200k cars? its affordability is one of the things that made it such a desirable car.

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 7 років тому +3

      Sure. Keep telling yourself that. The 911 is reliable to an extent. I know owners who are constantly getting things fixed on their cars. The Huracan is a terrible car when it snows here. Some owners who have tried using it as a daily haven't exactly done well. The guy traded his Hurracan for the NSX.
      The Huracan's have had transmissions issues galore. Just like the old Gallardo. Everyone claimed it was bullet proof too until the clutch went out at 5k miles.
      The reliability edge the NSX has is still very existent. Especially if an owner actually uses their car. The dealerships that have no upmarked the NSX are the ones selling them just fine.

    #3 The option to add electric motors and awd to either as a $25.000 option.
    #4 as electric batteries become more viable an all electric version at $150-$200.000

    • @CarlosLago
      @CarlosLago 7 років тому

      We're simulating a street start, so we want to avoid the effect of traction adding spray that all drag strips have accumulated in the launch area. When prepped, that surface is super sticky. When un-prepped (like in this video), it's pretty slippery.

    Why is the host's camera and the car camera not in sync? You can clearly see that the second launch-mode video are two different runs, the host's and some dude in a hat. I guess it's just an editing mistake, but it makes the video feel a little off. I know everyone's a critic, but I'd really rather they get rid of the picture in picture and just feature the car and use V/O.

  • @TheMegaawsomedude14

    So since it's a hybrid, and when you drive it in "EV", let's say you hop in cold and take off using just the battery, and then full throttle and turn on a cold engine, wouldn't that be potentially bad for wear, or is there some form of oil heating sys. and accusump to address an issue like this @honda

    • @CarlosLago
      @CarlosLago 7 років тому

      Long warm-up periods are largely a thing of the past. Sure, you wouldn't want to bang the engine against the limiter immediately after a cold start, but you also don't need to worry about everything being at temperature before you drive off

      That's what I thought and it would run as a V5 for normal/calm/town driving. It's a shame this car seems confused and Honda seem like they held back to keep it at it's current price point. It they'd just gone for it and made an Lexus LFA type car it would sell or if they did away with some of the trickery it could be cheaper.

    I wish they would put V-TEC back in the car.
