There's many without electric power and death toll and missing persons is saddening. Over 100 deaths and 600 missing as reports 10-1-24. Be safe and Jolly good.
NC native here; if you want to do anything “Carolina style” (chili, slaw, raw onion and mustard) the slaw HAS to be vinegar based Carolina slaw. Carolina slaw is very vingar forward. Ingredients (in general) are green cabbage, Mayo, white vingar, pickle juice, dill relish, salt & pepper. And the cabbage should be fine chopped. This style of slaw is used to pair with fatty, heavy meat like pulled pork or chilli. The vinegar helps cut the fat. I love a Carolina dog, which is a hot dog with chili, slaw, mustard & onion (I add ketchup too). You should try it!
Cookout has a regional reputation just for the milkshakes alone. If you're pre-diabetic this is a combination of Heaven and Hell trying to stabilize your blood sugar afterwards but it's worth it
As a North Carolinian I feel like I have to add some context. Cheerwine is a regional cherry flavored soda. Cook out is very good - for the price. In college a tray (1 entree, 2 sides and a drink) was $4 so you could get a burger, corn dog and hush puppies and a drink for next to nothing to coat your stomach before or after a night of drinking. Also, a Carolina style burger has chili and coleslaw on top. What they’re tasting in the banana pudding shake is nilla wafers on the bottom of the cup that are crushed up. Southern banana pudding has a nilla wafer cookie base that then gets soft from the pudding. Think of it as a southern version of how tiramisu uses lady fingers. I’d love to know where in North Carolina they were! Hopefully they’ll try some western vs eastern North Carolina barbecue and weigh in. People have very strong opinions about which is better
Fun to see you guys try foods that I recognize! However, I never go to Cook Out because it's the best of those foods--I go because it's traditionally been pretty cheap!
I'm still glad they went. Its one of my favorite places to eat but there isn't a single menu item I can think of that would be exciting for a video. The value of the chicken quesadilla is not because it's a great quesadilla, it's because it's a decent quesadilla that you can get as a side. That's sort of the whole Cookout vibe, variety and value
What I think makes Cook-Out burgers so great is that they are hand-formed patties, for frequently less than the rolled off a packing plant machine and frozen ones you get at MickyD's or BK.
Yes! I go to a place about 25 minutes out of town called Johnnys grub. They serve the absolute BEST made to order burgers out of a trailer and call themselves “the best dashboard dining”. Always fresh and full of flavor plus serve Filipino food
That's my home town's Cook Out! I've spent many late nights there, and it really makes me happy to see you guys enjoyed it. ALWAYS go for the cheese bites.
Vocabulary Homework: Hushpuppy, cornbread, corn muffin, 'Nilla Wafers, Cheerwine, Also - Chili con carne is a traditional Tex-Mex Chili, Sloppy Joe is BBQ sauced ground beef (mince). Y'all are doing a great job.
Sloppy Joe and Manwich are sometimes interchangeable. Sloppy Joe's are also like a stewed shredded beef sandwich. Similar to a Hash sandwich. But yeah, sloppy joe is normally ketchup based sauce with some onions.
@@timkinley1779 Sloppy Joe is the generic/homemade version of a brand name Manwich sauce used to make a sloppy joe. Shredded/chopped beef with a BBQ sauce is just a "chopped brisket sandwich." Unless you are referring to a barbacoa torta which is shredded and cooked in the Mexican style and does not have the same type of sauce as BBQ.
@@leeannsolice7473 A Sloppy Joe was a generic term for sauced based minced beef sandwich long before the brand "Manwich" was a thing! The term Sloppy Joes goes wayyyy back into the last century, while I believe Manwich gained their brand recognition in the 80's, but I haven't heard it called that in years now...plus Manwich is just a sauce while a Sloppy Joe is the sandwich itself. Actually I don't know of anyone who calls that type of sandwich a Manwich...
Ok just incase anyone needs a guide: "Pretty plain sausage" in the corn dog, is a hot dog weenie. Don't google what's in a hot dog if you don't know. Cheerwine is if root beer was a cherry cola. It's a southern classic but it's so old that it's genuinely hard to find in retail. Most people don't buy them, unless you're at cookout. Yes, Cookout is open 24 hours. I've never seen a Cookout that wasn't. As for the corndog being a side, if you get a regular or junior "tray" meal, the side options are insane. You can get a burger, drink, corn dog, and chicken wrap on the side. Forget fries, have a taco in a bag (walking taco)! Or hushpuppies! You like bread? Have some more!
Cookout is SO GOOD, I lived in Hawaii for 8 years and I would have cravings of their peach milkshake and plates all the time. My favorite is that they sell a little bit of everything, including multiple different cultures. Which is the true southern cookout experience. So underrated
@9:00 Children my dudes, children. That's who the quesadilla is for. It's cheap, small and familiar (as you point out, it can be prepared by someone who is blind drunk or alternately by someone who is busy keeping a kid or several alive). Quesadillas are a classic kids food in the US. Like frozen chicken nuggets or boxed mac and cheese.
I've never seen such a pathetic looking quesadilla. Even as a kid I would have been like..."Is this a joke?" The ones I am accustomed to are huge and greatly stuffed. An appetizer for four adults or a meal for one. The ones this place serve are very sad. Hope they're at least tasty.
Idk, the ones that our Cookout are really good and have chipotle in them. They're very similar to the ones at Taco Bell. Maybe they taste different in Mississippi than North Carolina though

It's basically Taco Bell, if Taco Bell sold charcoal-grilled burgers and chicken, and shakes. And you might have noticed our two brits suddenly enter 'like.... bruh...'-mode. That's a contact high from all the people in line. Even if you aren't stoned, Cook-Out will find a way to nerf your brain and give you the munchies.
I'm glad to see Cook Out get represented, but I am sad that my favorite item on the menu didn't get tried. The walking taco is fantastic, if you ever get the chance to try!
@@derekdaniels1483disappointed in cookout bbq sure. But our BBQ here is the best pulled pork in the world. Eastern or Lexington style. I love Texas bbq, but it’s a totally diff thing here. Go to TX for proper brisket/beef ribs. Go to N.C. for pulled pork!

When I was in highschool we had a cookout down the street, and the harmless prank we played on freshman was to buy them a milkshake of their choice, and hand it to them right away with just a straw, hiding the spoon. We'd watch them all but turn themselves inside out trying to get that freshly churned shake up that straw. First thing you learn about cookout is that you have to eat them with a spoon the fiest few minutes until they melt. They're so generous with the ice cream the straw is just inadequate. Thanks for visiting a hometown favorite, it was hilarious and delightful as always!

Did you hear how Joel pronounced tuna? He said chuna😂🤣😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Josh's unhinged enthusiasm about things that are... likely very possible in the UK (like mixing milkshake flavors)... is so pure.
Yesssss! Y’all came to Cookout! As an NC girlie I’m SOOOOO happy to see this 🫶🏾
Not being able to distinguish pulled pork from tuna does not bode well..........
That is such a weird reaction, I get those BBQ sandwiches semi regularly they don't taste like tuna at all. The texture is tunaey though.
Not pulled pork. Chopped pork.
Cookout is so good. Cheap, a lot of food, really hits the spot at 2 am lmao
Love the sound of the cicadas in the background. Sounds like home.
I can't tell yall how much of a joy it's been watching you two discover the way we live out here
Thank you guys for visiting NC. I'm beyond thrilled as a North Carolinian. Love your videos. Please remember us affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene in prayer .
IMO proper vinegar Carolina slaw should have no mayo.
Somebody should've told you those milkshakes are too thick for straws. 😂
There’s something about watching people enjoy things I’ve taken for granted that brings me warmth :)
As someone from Salisbury, NC, it makes me so happy to see you trying Cheerwine! Salisbury is the birthplace of Cheerwine!
What is Cheerwine?
@@sunshineharper4845it’s soda!! cheerwine tastes like a better version of dr pepper
@@denniscontreras3368 thank you.
as a North Carolina native this is amazing!!!! THIS is the American Lore, after any football or basketball game this hits the SPOT
me - a north carolinan living in south korea - watching you guys eat cook out.
this is cinema.
Cookout has a regional reputation just for the milkshakes alone. If you're pre-diabetic this is a combination of Heaven and Hell trying to stabilize your blood sugar afterwards but it's worth it
If you're in NC, go to Carolina beach boardwalk and get Britt's Donuts. It's a local legend around here.
This makes my southern soul happy
Cook Out is the most underrated fast food chain.
I wish every Burger King and McDonald's was replaced with them.
This is antisemitic
You guys are really chill about exchanging bodily fluids 🤣
Yall need to come back in July or August and get the WATERMELON MILKSHAKE!!!!😊
Or in December and try the egg nog shake!
Can I come too? That sounds amazing.
The watermelon shake is shockingly good they managed to make a milkshake refreshing
@Lorrdernie it's a combination that you wouldn't think that would work but it does so very well!
@@marycasanova8905sure
Fun to see you guys try foods that I recognize! However, I never go to Cook Out because it's the best of those foods--I go because it's traditionally been pretty cheap!
I got the feeling that they weren't blown away by it.
I'm still glad they went. Its one of my favorite places to eat but there isn't a single menu item I can think of that would be exciting for a video. The value of the chicken quesadilla is not because it's a great quesadilla, it's because it's a decent quesadilla that you can get as a side. That's sort of the whole Cookout vibe, variety and value
real
I remember when my husband saw the prices of the trays go up 😭 he was angry and heart broken
Never tried them. I’m going to try those
same!, i went there a few days ago
Which Cook Out were they at?

@@timkinley1779 100% they are not made with shredded beef, they're made with ground beef
"WHAT THE HECK IS GOIN ON HERE" trying the suck the ice cream through the straw. Welcome to COOKOUT!
Ok just incase anyone needs a guide:
"Pretty plain sausage" in the corn dog, is a hot dog weenie.
Have some more!
ya'll need to just try cheerwine. it's been my favorite soft drink since i was a kid. i haven't had it in years.
Whenever I'm in the south, I stock up on some Cheerwine.
3:22 Fast food places that do corn dogs (that I know of): Runza, A&W, Sonic and Wienerschitzel
MY DQ had them until a few months ago, then discontinued....
Cookout is SO GOOD, I lived in Hawaii for 8 years and I would have cravings of their peach milkshake and plates all the time. My favorite is that they sell a little bit of everything, including multiple different cultures. Which is the true southern cookout experience. So underrated
Cheerwine is a cherry cola created in NC
I love it SO much. Moved to UK couple years ago and miss it! 🥺
Does it taste a bit like Dr Pepper?
@@JCKay Nah, it's more cherry flavor.
Even as a kid I would have been like..."Is this a joke?"
The ones I am accustomed to are huge and greatly stuffed. An appetizer for four adults or a meal for one.
The ones this place serve are very sad. Hope they're at least tasty.
I second that, my kids always get quesadillas.
Idk, the ones that our Cookout are really good and have chipotle in them. They're very similar to the ones at Taco Bell. Maybe they taste different in Mississippi than North Carolina though
@@kallen868 I mean, I've made quesadillas with Walmart brand tortillas and slices of American cheese in a microwave. They get so much worse than this.
@@kallen868they are a side item like the corn dog or chicken nuggets. Maybe they got an older batch cause they are pretty tasty.
Cookout is mainly an East Coast Southern place. But it is sooooo soooo good and so underrated as well.
Ketchup and yellow mustard have to go on the corn dog
I was in Chicago a few weeks back and I was afraid to buy a hot dog. They hate catchup. :)
That’s all it requires, and it’s not catchup, it’s ketchup!
Sloppy Joe's and chilli are not the same.
Yeah, sloppy joes have Bolognese beef sauce basically
I like when he says “ah, chile con carne”
@TronciM not even close. Had you ever had a sloppy Joe sandwich you would know

Nothing hits better than cookout late in the night
13:05 what a joy to just watch u having so much fun together, hope u will have many more Moments like this, greetings from Germany
The Oreo Mint shake is the best thing on the menu.
Y'all did Cook Out right! PB fudge is my absolute favorite shake and you have to go with cajun fries. The amount of food you can get there for $10 is obscene in the best way.
Although I think the workers should have told them to get a spoon for shakes
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

As a north carolina native I am enjoying them discovering our delicacies
And you were THISSSS close to the Krispy Kreme!
I am in Atlanta, I have never heard of this place...but I just googled it and there is one down the road from me that I did not know about
I also live in Atlanta and you have got to go just once the milkshake selection will leave you absolutely flabbergasted. But that is absolutely worth it
I used to go to the one in Carrollton when I lived there. So good ❤
We're in Decatur and love Cook Out. It's so cheap and the food and shakes are so good.
StLouis here. It's just 186 miles to the nearest Cookout in Martin Tennessee😑.
The cookout style burger is also called Carolina style at other places, and it has chili, slaw, mustard and onions.
Welcome, gents. Welcome to an American institution.
What's wrong with their pork sandwich that it tastes like tuna?
I'm glad to see Cook Out get represented, but I am sad that my favorite item on the menu didn't get tried. The walking taco is fantastic, if you ever get the chance to try!
Was looking for this comment. They totally missed the Walking Taco.
That lady in line was correct to answer that way…it is indeed a billion times better than ‘in n out’ IMO 😂😂
You should of tried their BBQ. It’s actually fantastic here in NC.
Their BBQ is my order of choice there. Always fantastic!

They had Texas BBQ on the trip, they would have been disappointed.
@@matt8630 Umm thats your opinion in which most do not agree with. If you look at the top 10 states for BBQ ( even pulled pork style ) NC isnt even in the list and some even have SC... I would say Memphis pulled pork is leaps ahead of NC but thats my opinion and many others not yours.
Oh my midnight brunch 😅 and as an NC Hispanic guy this is one of my top 5 takeouts this one is #2.
I'm not surprised you guys like corn dogs. A corn dog is, after all, technically a relative of a beef wellington!
🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣😂🤣
Why did no one tell them you’re supposed to eat the milkshakes with a spoon?!?!
Nooooooooo
So glad yall went to cookout, it's one of the most universal experience in NC
I love Cheerwine soda way better than Pepsi or Coke!!
It's a true gem! Love that stuff so much
