There is a British UA-camr called Mr H. Him and his wife purchased a professional smoker from Texas and had it delivered to their house in the UK. So real BBQ is slowly making its way to the UK.
There are also some new BBQ restaurants in recent months/years, opened by US trained pitmasters in the UK. I think Mr. H and family have been to one or two of them.
@@pinky2245Cool. I think the only issue they’re going to run into is getting the right kind of beef and making sure they get a good tasting wood for smoke. That slow and low method for BBQ is all about rendering the fat and bringing out the flavor. And Texas BBQ is usually done with mesquite or pecan or hickory. I’m curious what wood they use in the UK.
They bought an expensive, Franklin Smoker. It’s impressive watching them carefully trying to do it exactly right. They’ve had some tasty success for beginners. 👍

@@ypw510 I mean I'm not saying it's cheap like McDonald's, but it's certainly not as expensive as a Michelin-starred restaurant and you don't need a reservation. Granted, if the place has enough hype around it you may have to wait in line a while, but there are plenty of places making fantastic BBQ with less of a crowd.
@@ypw510yeah bbq is expensive, but you have to factor in the overhead cost of it. The cost of beef, the fact they had to cook it for 12-14 hours, pay an employee for that time, buy the wood, etc - it’s actually a really reasonable cost at the end of the day. I mean, you’re paying for POUNDS of food. Go to any high end restaurant and you pay more for less
@@Benzy670 The last time I got some really good barbecue it was brisket. I'm guessing about 6 ounces of meat, a roll (kind of disappointing but even some of the best places just serve white bread), and two really good sides for $20. I used to go to a tribal casino that on M-Th had a buffet with a superb wood-grilled tri-tip for $10. They did have a lot of financial difficulties though, but I think the price of their buffet was the least of their concerns. Here in California there's a guy who does Texas-style barbecue and has gotten a lot of national attention, although some for the wrong reasons (like allegations of underpaying his employees and not often supervising the work). That cost about as much as Goldee's even though their costs would be ostensibly be higher in California.

I just found this place SuShi Domo recently, and it's a whole vibe - last night they spoiled us with complimentary jalapeno salmon ceviche & mochi... Not to mention most of the people are pretty cool and we have decently forward-thinking representation in the community. Dallas and Fort Worth are honestly cooler cities than I would've thought, but the mid-cities are truly a unexpected gems in Texas!
That's very good to know!❤ I live in Anaheim, California, bordering the City of Garden Grove, where one of the largest Vietnamese community resides, and I love being neighbors with these kind hospitable people. They have great restaurants and bakeries, and they are some ok the kindest souls❤ So if I get to visit Texas in the near future, I will definitely drop by that area.
That first bite you can tell Josh is just savoring the moment and Ollie is just trying to find any English word to describe the phenomenon they are experiencing. A moment that speaks loudly of divine praise.
Pork ribs are pretty easy. Pork butt and beef ribs are a little harder. Getting brisket right is the hardest. It takes a lot of time, labor, and experience to get it right.
There something unique about waiting in line with anticipation, meeting new people from across the world, smelling the smoked wood, and watching the pit crew work tirelessly before sitting down at a simple wood table, breaking bread, and enjoying a wonderfully prepared bbq feast with your friends and family. It doesn’t have to always be fine dining to be great!
I know some people who will do anything to avoid waiting any longer than they have to, but sometimes that kind of anticipation is part of the fun. I've been to counter service restaurants/bakeries that had long lines and that was just an opportunity to chat if they'd been there before and if so what to order. I'm not sure about waiting 4 hours in line though, but I've been to places with tremendous reputations where it might have been an hour My fav is a place that has pizza. I've been in line as long as an hour, but it was worth it every single time. When there's something worth waiting in line for, people will do it.
@@ypw510 My absolute favourite bakery in the world isn't the best in the world by far. But it's great enough for my city that every morning there's a small lineup around the block, on top of a waiting area for preorders. In a weird way, waiting with my partner to get some fresh supplies for a homemade brunch, is part of the experience of a good semi-lazy weekend morning. Talking to people in line, seeing other regulars, etc. Love it. I'll wait 30 minutes for their croissants any day of the week.
@@itsDaedrin There's a small bakery near me (Patisserie Rotha in Albany, California) that's open 3 days out of the week. They get lines well out the door when they open, although there might be no line just before they close but where the choices may be slim to none. It's really good though, where the owner has a Cambodian name, but apparently was trained in France. I've been to a few other places where I waited in line - sometimes really long. Tartine in San Francisco might be the best known. Their croissants are crazy good. Bouchon Bakery in Napa Valley always has a long line on weekends, and maybe even weekdays. But it's pretty reasonably priced compared to uber expensive wine country options.
Perhaps it's that epiphany of camaraderie in that we're all seeking the same glorious thrill ride in life, and thus have way more in common with each other than we first realized? I lived in Texas for 3 years during the late '90s. I can honestly say Texas has the best barbecued ANYTHING in the world. It is truly a "forever memorable experience" and worth every cent.
Nowadays, you can get good bbq nearly anywhere in the US. Maybe not quite as good as Texas BBQ but pretty damn good in it's own right. The downside of bbq becoming popular over the last 10-15 years is the price of certain cuts like brisket, which used to be cheap as dirt.
@@sociopathmercenary but as you can see here, Goldees does ribs better than Memphis, I am from Texas but lived near Memphis and have had every rib available in the delta
@@mchonkler7225 I dunno. I lived in Texas a decade - and while I don't miss the state one iota, you absolutely CANNOT get BBQ like that anywhere in the US. Sure, some cities will have a single BBQ item they may do well, but nearly every other city or state doing BBQ has to rely on sauces. Carolina, Memphis, St, Louis, Kansas City, etc. - Texas BBQ don't need no sauce! And they have a much wider selection of meats to choose from - I have never seen Cabrito anywhere other than Texas or Mexico, just as an example.
As a Texan, it is fun to watch you enjoy our contribution to world cuisine. Backyard smokers are part of our lifestyle and we grow up helping with the cook, learning the secrets and growing it generation over generation. Keep spreading the word for us!

If you think about it, what exactly defines high end cuisine? Taste? Labour? French cuisine is considered fine dining because of the amount of labor, time and skill that goes into making things like demiglace, but I'd argue that smoking something for 12 hours and adjusting for the minute differences in temp is just as labour intensive and fiddly Fortunately even though bbq can cost a lot it doesn't also have the "haute cuisine" up charge that would make it untenable for people to pay for Wish I lived somewhere with a bigger bbq scene cuz it's expensive as hell here in Canada

There are also some new BBQ restaurants in recent months/years, opened by US trained pitmasters in the UK. I think Mr. H and family have been to one or two of them.
I watched that video also!
I have to say i LOVE it when Josh and Ollie share their food with the camera crew because they are just SO excited about the food they can't wait to share it!

Watching two Brits enjoy some of the best BBQ in the world will never get old. And a line like the one that showed up while you were in the back is always a good indicator of a fantastic place to eat
I love how Josh and Ollie have tried Michelin starred food but still get blown away by our humble TX BBQ which is so accessible to the average person.
Don't they sell for maybe $38 a lb?
@@Benzy670
The last time I got some really good barbecue it was brisket.
It’s HELLA expensive. But worth every bite. Take $100 if you’re on a budget. You can drop close to 300 really quickly 🤷🏾♂️

I've bene in Arlington for 11 years, and I so feel this statement.

3:38 "I would happily go to prison, if they served that." Burnt Ends Brisket. Love their facial expressions.
Can confirm. Texas bbq is simply on another level. Deceptively simple, but transcendent. So many great places, try to go to them all.
Keep the bread
I know some people who will do anything to avoid waiting any longer than they have to, but sometimes that kind of anticipation is part of the fun. I've been to counter service restaurants/bakeries that had long lines and that was just an opportunity to chat if they'd been there before and if so what to order. I'm not sure about waiting 4 hours in line though, but I've been to places with tremendous reputations where it might have been an hour
My fav is a place that has pizza.
@@itsDaedrin
There's a small bakery near me (Patisserie Rotha in Albany, California) that's open 3 days out of the week.
We all want a good time and it's refreshing to discover such commonality with complete strangers in the process. It makes the world a far less scary place. ;)
They ABSOLUTELY need to bring the boys to America!!!! Put them all in an RV, drive around taking in the amazing beauty we have here. Lots of great food, people, sights and history! The boys would love it!!!!
Since they are doing Texas/Arkansas/Tennessee route, they need to come back and go Kentucky, cut through Tennessee to Alabama, then head to the Gulf and through Florida (maybe go through Orlando to Key West). That would "complete" their "tour of the South".

I lived in Texas for 3 years during the late '90s. I can honestly say Texas has the best barbecued ANYTHING in the world. It is truly a "forever memorable experience" and worth every cent.
Texas barbecue is awesome but I'm pretty happy with some Memphis or Kansas City too.
@@mchonkler7225 can't get good brisket in the Delta, not TN, MS, AR, etc.
I love how they serve the best food ever with maximum humility. They are so humble and so confident at the same time.
This is antisemitic
As a Texan, it is fun to watch you enjoy our contribution to world cuisine. Backyard smokers are part of our lifestyle and we grow up helping with the cook, learning the secrets and growing it generation over generation. Keep spreading the word for us!
I visited Dallas FW two years Ago and had the Best BBQ in my life, and now I have my own Smoker in my BackYard here where I live ( Cancun Mexico) and every time that I make a Smoked Brisket, Ribs, even Smoked Chicken all my friends blow their minds because is awesome flavor!! Thanks Texas!!!
If you think about it, what exactly defines high end cuisine? Taste? Labour?
French cuisine is considered fine dining because of the amount of labor, time and skill that goes into making things like demiglace, but I'd argue that smoking something for 12 hours and adjusting for the minute differences in temp is just as labour intensive and fiddly
Fortunately even though bbq can cost a lot it doesn't also have the "haute cuisine" up charge that would make it untenable for people to pay for
Wish I lived somewhere with a bigger bbq scene cuz it's expensive as hell here in Canada
