Oddly enough, I bought the game years ago when it was at a playable and better state, but I didn't try it out until the release of the "new version" in 2022, when the new devs took over. It was shockingly buggy and completely unplayable then, and it seems like all the complaints went in one ear and out the other. The current "very negative" score at 10% says it all, as if the previous "mixed" score in 2023 wasn't already a hint. What a hot mess for a promising game.
The thing that happened is that the old version was built on RPG Maker VX Ace. They ported it to RPG Maker MV. The old RPG Maker games from 2000 to VX Ace used Ruby as a scripting language. RPG Maker MV and onward use JavaScript, and the plugin for Ruby scripting is broken and doesn't interpret Ruby scripts correctly. The broken custom save system makes me think that the "new" version just took the Ruby scripts instead of rewriting them into their JavaScript equivalents, and the game wasn't even tested outside of launching and being semi-functional.
