Hello everyone, Japanese-American here. I play Stardew Valley in Japanese, and in the Pierre 6-hearts cutscene, the word for Pierre's secret stash is hesokuri (臍繰り), which means secret money, or secret savings. So if that is anything to go off of, it sounds like Pierre hides how much money he earns from his family!
That’s pretty interesting. I wonder why they would translate it like that. Stash in English could refer to secret money but it could also refer to drugs, so is it possibly a poor translation?
By a comment from Caroline, yhe church was put there before Pierre brought it, but I can still see him picking to buy that house so he doesn't have property taxes.
Yeah but Lewis visits every store on day of the week which I think is supposed to represent tax collection. Atleast I thought of it like that so I think they do pay taxes.
Quote from ConcernedApe (may not be word-for-word): "I didn't really expect Lewis and Pierre to be so hated by the community, but I can see where they're coming from."
I feels bad when someone's OC get strong hate from someone. Not to mention, big community like SDW fans... Feels bad for Concerned Ape 😥 It would be nice if there's more theory like "What actually happen in Skull Cavern?" "Where the heck is pelican birds in Pelican town?" "Why is Krobus, the darkness himself, devoted himself to Yoba, symbol of light?" "Who destroy Linus's tent??" "Is Harvey using everyone as medicine lab rat and the reason why George and Sebastian are grumpy was because of that?" People are easily get angry on someone's OCs which person they respect spend years to build. It's little bit sad. I hope there's balance of "character theory" and "world build theory" to keep balance on people's strong comments. At the core, the surface and the center of Stardew valley. It's still ConcernedApe world and his long years of work no matter how and what people trying to put IRL perspective in it. I want to respect it and see it as how it is no matter what kind of real world problem try to pulling my opinion around.
@@southernsnowman7788 How's this for a theory: Several Stardew Valley characters used to be part of an adventuring party. The wizard is a wizard (duh), Linus (who we know is old friends with the wizard) is a druid, and Mr. Qi (who also has ties to the wizard) is a rogue. Together, the three of them (possibly with a couple others) did a bunch of cool stuff, including sealing an ancient evil into the Skull Cavern, draining it's power and turning it into iridium. This is why Mr. Qi goes out of his way to encourage you to mine the skull cavern by placing treasure chests and creating missions there; by taking the iridium, you weaken the creature and make it less likely to escape.
Sebastian isn't grumpy, and george is just old in a world changing as we can see when he say "they just dont make jackets like they use too" or when penny helps him do something. Hes upset he cant move around like he use to. And Sebastian is just an introvert, just like to be alone. (Shane is someone i would grumpy we dont really learn why now thats something.) skull cavern the wizard or witch cursed it, (the writing on the walls is tranlateable (lol is that a word) I dont think harvey is a mislious person based off his heart events in his free time he listens for planes. idk who destoryed linus tent but i'd say alex or Sebastian, they are the only NPC that go up passed his tent. (i know there's misspellings dont im dyslexic nor feel like fixing it)
@@thermophile1695 that's... Actually sounds like fun D&D party. Wizard, Linus and Mr.Qi blasting their nature cosmic magic energy in Skull Cavern. 😂 One Druid, Teaching you how to make wild bait. One Rogue, Telling you to drink his cosmic snake milk. One Wizard, Brewing strange weed juice for you and filled you with power of nature. That's the Stardew Valley Zero Gen!! (give them some time to strike cool pose and make explosion behind them)
@@southernsnowman7788 Everyone is going to have different opinions on the characters, they may like some they may hate some. They can do this all while respecting the game. As per the quote OP mentioned, I don't think ConcernedApe is bothered by it. It all comes down to personal taste, opinions, or theory crafting if your into that; in my belief I think that is why everyone in the valley has their own little personality that can fit into a subgroup. Ex. Sebastian = introvert and d&d players. Abigail = girl boss. Sam = musician.
@@redandyellowz9938 Nah the problem is not the reselling but the fact that he claims credit for those things. He tells the town people that he grew those crops.
I only recently started playing stardew valley and didn't really understand/know why people hate Pierre so much, but then I saw that the crops he was selling one day looked suspiciously similar to the ones I sold him just a day before and remembered that one of the villagers just told me a few minutes ago that Pierre was selling very good produce he was apparently growing in his backyard ... that's when I understood
I don't get why people are upset that he resells what you sell him (though his markup is a bit absurd). That is normally the entire purpose of a grocery store. Taking credit for your work is scummy, but also really dumb because it would be so easy to punish him for it. He comes off to me as a slightly dumb and self-centered merchant trying to score cheap social capital, so I guess the dislike is because his flaws remind us of why we can't have nice things in real life.
@@nicolaim4275 I'm pretty sure he gives you the credit when the crops aren't good enough for him to claim. So it adds to the insults you hear. When it's low quality the villagers tell you mean things and when it's high quality suddenly he is the one taking credit.
@@jellyjilli1004 iirc, he stops taking credit for your good crops when you have a good relationship with him; I don't remember who it was, but this villager said that Pierre showed them a berry I grew in my farm and they just had to buy it because it looked so good.
I only ever shopped at Pierre cus he was closer to the farm and Abby was usually nearby. I haven't checked, but it'd be cool if a mod added a new vendor and maybe changed Pierre and Joja a bit to make the choice more interesting
Stardew valley expanded makes morris a more likeable person and makes joja seem a little better. Its actually making me think about wether or no I help the comunity soley for the junimos or joja for the valley economy.
Maybe they could add another company like Joja (that focuses on farm machinery/supplies) and another shop like pierres and it buys your produce for a higher price but it sells for higher too.
The whole moral of stardew valley is about the value of small communities and how important they are in the face of massive corporations, Jojamart route is purposely awful because you're not supposed to pick it.
Never cared about Abigail, but yeah, Pierre was really close, Joja was just too far away. However, I wish you could run Pierre out of business and support our kings at Joja, I want to *thrive*
About the church in their home- I think Caroline mentions that it was left by the previous owners of the building and the family decided to keep it there for the other townspeople to use
you know what would be a cool concept instead of having to balance between Joja and Pierres there could be a quest where you open up your own farmers market where the townsfolk can just come to you for your own products and you can set your own prices I think it could be an interesting storyline and help the relationships feel more real Also the farmer basically is the one giving the town products if we started selling our own stuff it would leave Pierre destitute 💀
Here in Australia at least, there's lots of small farms, and it's not hard to find small stands where people are selling fresh produce. I really like that idea :)
the only character i really hate is Clint. in my 2nd playthrough i have married Emily and he still asks me if "he has a shot" like no man you do not have a shot dating my wife. He also gifts you omni geodes randomly and that would be great, except when you remember you have to pay him to open them.
To be fair I think that's more the games fault. Like sam still spends time with penny when your married to him. All of the "rivals" still have borderline romantic dialogue about the married spouse. Clints a nice person it's just the games code ignoring the marriage.
@@selenalulamoon1167 yeah I really don't like that about the game. When I got closer to Emily he was acting like we were dating and being salty when I hadn't even gifted her a bouquet? We're just friends calm the fuck down lmao It made me feel guilty cuz I want to be close friends but I can't be friends with all of them without having the knowledge that they all have a crush on me in my conscience Maybe im overthinking this lmao
@@selenalulamoon1167 I haven't married anyone but i am currently going steady with Shane and Emily (though, i kinda ignored Emily a lot after being official with her) while i do have a hard time choosing partner in all farming simulator game that i've played, your comment talking about the 'after marriage' behaviour of your spouse ignite something inside of me. I really like Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town, which is the 'girl' protagonist version of HM : Friends of Mineral Town. I really like one of the bachelor named Gray, the cold city guy, coming to the small town to learn from his famous grandpa about blacksmithery, but grew agitated and bitter at the constant ignorancy from his grandpa as he yearned to be acknowledged, but Gray found new softspot thanks to the kindness of Mary, the library attendant who REALLY likes book, is soft, kind and understanding. His crush on her, makes him visit Library everyday at the same hour, reading books and finding interest on it. I liked him so bad but even after we got married, he still visits the library and when i talk to him, his dialogue still sang praises for Mary. I was so frustrated at the game. I can give it a pass, if i talk to him and his dialogue changes into something about the book instead. Because, he truly did find books interesting as i talk to him. I wish developer put more thoughts of the pattern embedded on yout spouse after marriage, like, imagine your spouses constantly singing praises about his ex crush, i'd have divorve em in a second. This could be something future farming game like SV, HM, Story Of Seasons, etc could fix.
that's not all, he constantly complains about his work and love life. He never learns to come to terms with his situation and either do something about it or accept it. Be a grown adult, come on
Pierre is a complicated NPC for us Stardew Valley Players. We want to like him but just like Lewis he's not actually a good person. I love how layered Stardew Valley is when you scrape away the surface. 🙂
It's safe to say that when Lewis gone and croak, the next Mayor will be the player, because there isn't any real candidate that can challenge the player if they decided to run for the Mayor position.
No, I don't think Pierre is a particularly "good" person, but you bet your butt I'm gonna support small local businesses over giant corporations any day of the week. He may have a monopoly, but it's a really tiny town. Small towns tend to be that way. Everyone fills their own niche. Especially in a farming town where the majority of the produce is probably being sold to large cities anyway. If a monopoly is all you're worried about, you could argue the same for Marnie or Clint or the sword dude (can't remember his name right now).
And let's not forget that the player character worked at Joja, and with the skeleton in cubicle behind them I don't see why they would want to work for them again!
@@1AnimeChannel well, working for joja on pelican twon is higer on the piramid, you wouldn't die there, maybe one of the workers you send to do stuff but not you.
Abigail and Caroline will occasionally say that Pierre fed them some of the stuff you sold them. I've even caught them mentioning that he's tried to feed the mushrooms, the ones that cause Health damage, and even sap. No wonder Abigail wants to eat quartz. She doesn't know what real food looks like.
If Pierre is a former boxer, there’s potential brain damage involved in that, which can lead to A LOT of mood and behavioral disorders. This includes paranoia and, irritability among other things. Yay It may be part of why he has such a difficult time with his family, a secret stash, and difficulty being able to understand that his business practices aren’t, always the best. And, with only ONE doctor in town, who seems mostly general in his practice, Pierre would have little access to actual treatment for any concussions he received while boxing
Well, I dunno if it's been posted anywhere else, it just came to me while watching the video :) Stardew valley has actually done a very good job of depicting the complicated lives and issues that can arise in poorer communities, like Pierre's issues.
Pierre is a shady guy, and there isn't much I can find sympathy for him. He constantly puts profit before family time and it's pretty clear Caroline feels neglected and like Pierre has missed out on spending time with Abigail as she's grown up. He's also very jealous, and yeah, he absolutely can and will get into a physical altercation with Morris if you don't step in and calm the situation down. He's more interested about making a buck than being a good member of the community, and he dreams of owning a whole slew of stores and basically being Joja light. That said, Joja is a huge corporation. It's common practice for the corporations Joja is based on to go into small communities, open a store, sell at a loss (which they can do because they aren't reliant on that one store turning a profit right away, not to mention their sheer buying power gets them low prices from distributors to begin with) to drive local competition out of business and then jack up the prices even higher than the local competition had them; then if isn't sustainable, they just shut the stores down leaving the town with no stores filling that need. Joja hasn't done that yet because Pierre's is still hanging in there, but make no mistake, those reduced prices only exist because Pierre's still does. I'm not convinced they're really taking much a loss for the most part even undercutting Pierre's prices aside from when they give out coupons because of their buying power. I've worked for 7-Eleven, and they literally have stores around the world, the prices they can negotiate from distributors are bonkers because when you buy in bulk you can negotiate reduced prices. Also, every store *has* to charge more than what they pay for the goods they sell to be profitable. My mom owned a number of clothes stores, and the mark up was generally 50% for her (that's not even a large mark up), because physical stores have a lot of costs to cover. After rent, insurance, heat and electricity, paying employees and whatnot, the actual profit margin is much lower; depending on how well you pay your employees and what rent is like in the area you've set up your store in, that affects how much of that mark up is actually a profit; you also have to hold on to quite a bit of product to have something to sell, which means a lot of your money is tied up in what's on the shelf and in the back store room. There's nothing morally wrong with buying something for less and selling it for more, you deal with the distributors, source your products, collate them into a physical location (paying for shipping as well), and have sales people to not just ring up your purchase but inform of the good's origin and any pertinent information to help you make informed purchases. The morality comes into play in how you treat your customers and employees to make that profit, and what ends you'll go to, to squeeze every last cent of profit out of something. My mom payed her employees double minimum wage (which in retail is pretty good), plus a commission on everything they sold, but had a firm policy about not lying to customers about whether something looked good on someone; she wasn't about getting one profitable sale out of customer, it was her theory that if you were honest and you took the time to find something that really did look good on a woman, that woman would wear it instead of it sitting in the back of her closet... and then she would tell all her friends where she got it. And, that worked. The problem with both Pierre and Joja is that they aren't interested in providing value to their customer (and in Joja's case, being a good working environment and employer to their employees), they're interested in the short term profit and squeezing every last cent they can out of their customers (and every last bit of work they can for what they pay out of their employees... since the 90's the model for big box stores has been to simply reduce staffing to cut costs, and have that reduced number of employees do the jobs of twice or thrice the number of people for the same pay they got before... anyone who's worked retail can probably tell you about a time or three that someone quit or were let go and they just weren't replaced for months, if they ever were, so you just had to do your job plus the missing person's job and got no pay raise at all). Most chain stores you go into today are chronically understaffed, and the employees you can find usually look like they've been running around for hours and are pulled in five different directions because they have been their whole shift. It's bad business when you get down to the heart of it because it prizes a short term gain over a long term profit. Anyway, instead of building good relationships with customers and communities, profits are maximized in the short term; like when Pierre attempts to sell the 'organic' produce you provided him for a ridiculous price. Like, it wasn't a terrible idea, if he hadn't gotten greedy he absolutely could have sold those vegetables to Gus at a higher mark up than the regular produce price; I mean, you can even make a case for it aside from the ridiculous organic sticker, the bundle is all gold star quality produce. Lots of restaurants want to source good quality ingredients. But Pierre put a price on it that Gus could never afford and was completely uncaring about what the outcome for Gus would be; that's bad business. The element of relationship has been lost a lot in business; a customer that *feels* treated fairly and like they got a good deal is someone that will come back again and again. A customer that comes back because you're the only place in town will, because they have no choice, but as soon as somewhere else is available they'll go there instead. Honestly, the farmer should just be selling to Gus directly, cut out Pierre as a middle man. XD
I think it would be awesome to do some farm to table stuff with Gus! Thanks for the insight. I've worked retail and I know the grind. Labor is first thing to get cut. But you're absolutely right. When people reliably came back to us it wasn't because they had to, it was because they wanted to. Because we treated them right and our employees didn't hate working there. Usually lol!
@@Leapalot Exactly! Lol I've worked a lot of retail in my life. I could go on and on about my business and economic theories and how everything is really backwards these days in terms of what is valued and the long term hidden costs to the practices, but that whole cut scene with Pierre from the board event just speaks for itself.
I think that something hard to really get with such a silly little game is that there are moral greys. Joja is bad and is the all encompassing evil and i am not about to side with a corporation in this hell of a society, but the idea that joja being bad makes pierre good is strange, and it affected me too! Pierre is not necessarily evil, but he isnt an angel either. The valley has financial problems, but i would think that if pierre knew how rough things are, he would be hospitable. But instead hes stingy and absent and clearly wasnt around enough to make caroline feel loved (cough cough wizard cough cough) so the other part of me eho hates bad fathers and partners makes me dislike him. Overall, pierre is not worse than joja, but he is the lesser of two evils, and honestly seems like the type who would tear linus' tent down for driving away business
Absolutely! Everyone is flawed in the game, and that's what makes it more like real life. People have dimension to them and not everything you see is good or bad. I do think Pierre is only the lesser evil compared to Joja because he has less power though. It's more a matter of scale than morality. He's bad, but he's less bad because his actions affect fewer people.
@@Leapalot yeah! I do think that if it came down to it, pierre would save someone he cared about as opposed to money if he had to choose, but he would regret his decision, and he would think about it. I like to compare him to harvey, because harvey is in a similar situation economically with fewer people to care about but hes still kind and well meaning, though it is simply because hes a bachelor and thus needs more character development, i think placing the two side by side really shows Pierre's cruelty towards those around him.
@@Leapalot A theory on what Peirre's Secret Stash might be, The Farmer says specifically "your wife should know about this" his *wife.* Not just his family, not even Everyone. His wife specifically. Its not like with Lewis and Marnie, The Farmer just says "I'm gonna tell Everyone", meaning the town in general. *Because Its something the town should know.* Back to Peirre, you say his wife should know...leading me to believe it might be dirty magazines, or very adult movies. Meaning Pierre is looking at very suggestive content without his wife's consent. Oh how I hate him.
Lmao on my first year my forages was rewarded with a high price and the next year he cut them down... Also i notice how all of my crops i sold him was DISPLAYED IN THE FALL COMPETITION
"Why is it that a little farmer can shut down an industry giant like this?" reminded me of that story about how Walmart failed colossally in Germany. Let's be honest, Pierre is a flawed man but Morris and Joja were actually doing a lot of the things that Walmart did there. I don't think they respect unions (seeing as their one cashier seems to be working 24/7) and driving out smaller competition by operating at a loss is potentially illegal too. Not to mention all of their shady environmental business. You don't have to justify one to be critical of the other.
@@anna-flora999 Ich weiß, dass es in Deutschland illegal war, der Kommentar bezog sich auf die Gesetzeslage in Stardew Valley- da kenn ich mich jetzt nicht so gut aus...
I love sticking it to Pierre during the Festival. And then hitting him with the Happy Gilmore quote: "You know what the pathetic thing is? You've been doing this your *whole life*."
I mean, one can wonder if Pierre throws himself into his work and keeps a ‘stash’ due to resentment over his wife and the Wizard, but without all the information thereabouts… and even then, how he’s acting now is all on Pierre. He can’t blame the Wizard for him being an insidious price-gouger.
In the Stardew Valley Expanded Mod, you can befriend Morris and elect him as Mayor of Pelican Town. This triggers a lot of upgrades to the town, a new JoJa Emporium being built behind the Joja Mart. (The community center becomes the Theater) and Pierre ends up close to bankruptcy. Caroline has to go back to work to cover the bills. To say he is not happy with you is an understatement. Even Morris starts to feel a bit guilty about how bad things are going for him.
@@beroniii No, JoJa Mart doesn't close because you go the JoJa route rather than finishing the Junimo bundles. I did all the bundles but one to get the rewards, then bought a JoJa membership. There is a separate event that is not triggered when you opt for this route.

i think joja is so comically evil that theres just no way to frame them as good, but i think having the perspective of both shop owners being antagonists and bad people is a really cool twist on how to view the game
Both shop owners being evil is not a twist. It's factually what it is. Though Morris himself isn't all angelic as well, Joja has provided so much more for the community than Pierre ever will. Sam, Shane, and Pam are provided with jobs in Joja mart. I don't see Pierre ever hiring people from the community and helping them with their lives except slap an insanely ridiculous mark up on the very produce you sell him. The only ever reason we help the community center is because of the Junimos. Other than that, Joja mart should be there to stay.
1. It really confuses me that he is closed on Wedensdays when he's "struggling to stay afloat" but when the competition is gone suddenly he doesn't need a day off? 2. I was actually horrified at how Pierre acted when I completed the community center Like the boycott was stressful: Jodi and Pam are both noted as being unable to afford Pierre's products, people who don't live in the valley drive all the way out there for work (implying they couldn't find work closer to where they live) and while Sam is at least able to find a new job but Shane is put out of work afterwords Yes in the long run big corporations being pushed aside infavor of small businesses is a good thing, but can we just ignore the short term damages I legitimately don't feel like a town hero after completing the community center Like Morris is sketchy but he's really just doing his job at the end of the day. He probably worked really hard to be able to run his own store and is trying to show corporate he's good enough to run a bigger store/a store in a better location
@@Gr3nadgr3gory I would agree but it is unclear how much corporate pressure was put on him And even if his higher ups aren't pushing him to get certain numbers I feel he is still trying to impress them
Regarding getting all one's seeds from seedmakers: In my current game, I haven't bought any seeds from Pierre's shop, nor from Jojo. With the exception of one strawberry seed, I've gotten all my seeds from the traveling cart and the seed makers. I didn't get cabbages or blueberries until late in Y4...the community center took a long time to finish. However, while waiting between traveling cart days I got a lot of time in the mines and am rich.
I wish we could learn more about yoba. It’s kind of weird that CA put a church into the game and named the deity but we still don’t know much about him.
I actually interested about Yoba too. There's many item related to Yoba but it's hard to talk about it to westerner since everyone seem to be somehow put their guard up, very angry or just want to make fun of religious somehow... I don't really understand. It just religion in game, y'all. There's many interesting point like... - Why did Sand dragon wanted to eat the sun and why Mr.Qi know about it? - Return Specter was originally designed to be charge at Yoba Shrine. I guess Yoba have some connection to the space, cosmic power and iridium (like mention in library book about swirl and light or something) - why Krobus believe in Yoba? Just my theory but maybe long long ago, even before dwarf's UFO landing on Stardew Valley... The deserts was hot spot for iridium meteor and space power. There was people who believe in it, worshipping it, making golden mask and try to make themselves stronger with power of iridium and stardrops. And then one day, dwarf, the sky people come to Stardew Valley. They see iridium and prismatic shard as source of power and not object to worshipping. It's resource and they are mining it. So they fight with those original people who live in there. 3 pillars in The deserts is probably one of the way dwarf drawing weapon from universe. (since the clue for 3 pillars were in dwarf language) It was brutal fight of two species that hold cosmic power. People of The deserts probably praying for the one light they believe. And according to Willy's Legend of Stardrop story... There's big star shining it mystery light that could be see clearly with naked eyes. People celebrate it but soon they know... It was mega size meteor and it was coming this way. People are scared and thought Yoba punished and abandon them.... They sad, angry, confuse. Power of radioactive meteor was as destructive as nuclear bomb. It turned everything into sand and hot land with anger of the sun. Bodies of Deserts people are get tearing apart. They break into light (mummies) and darkness (void spirits), crossing the unknown boundary and turned into monsters. The war was somehow still going on but with less battle force than before since there not much people left on both side. The survivor, maybe was The Wizard or his great great grandfather mother, sealing the Skull Cavern so all of Deserts people's soulless bodies and gooey overpowered fluid of melted people won't harm anyone. The color of iridium showing in Wizard's hair and ability to sense magic power are in his DNA. Krobus was believe in Yoba because he maybe think his own kind get punished from god of light and cursed to never feels the sun. If Yoba forgive him, he might be able to have body and feels the sun again. ...... And that's my fiction

"who said Pierre isn't evil?" nobody, he's just shown as the 'good guy' by the game, but when you dig and go through character development it's made obvious he's a douche. lying to his wife, being sexist to his daughter, lying about where he gets his produce, and being overall extremely smug about how great he is as a business and being money hungry. he's the small business up against the big corporation, and we know how in this day and age we're all kind of nudged to give the small business our company because it's hard to maintain it and set it up in the first place. I worked at a small business, and the customers loved us because we were nice as well as convenient to get to in a city and across from the local college. and that's another thing: Pierre's is somewhat conveniently located, 10-20 minutes away from your farm (in-game time, dependent on if you walk or ride your horse), he opens sooner, etc. people go for convenience a lot, which is probably another reason why Pierre is focused as the good guy of the game. idk, they're both crap options to choose, but I've always done the community center, it makes me pay attention to what I'm doing in game and gives me a goal as well as to know which crops to plant instead of going "eh ig I'll go with strawberries and cauliflowers this year?". completing the community center makes you feel good EVEN THO it means it shuts down Joja and puts Shane and Sam out of work and makes it so everyone has to shop at Pierre's, who we all know is a douche. in the end, it's partly how the game itself portrays the two, partly convenience, and partly how one route makes you feel great while the other makes you feel like crap (not to mention the end appearances). after figuring out that Pierre won't give you credit for selling him your produce in a video I have never once sold him my stuff and I don't think I ever have.
I kind of feel like some of the things pierre does can be forgivable if he didn't do certain things (lies about how he gets goods you sell to him, isnt self aware on how much his costumers are able to pay for things, has more awareness of his families needs ect.) i think the flaws make him more interesting because i DO think some business kind of abuse the whole "I'm just a small town business, i'm tiny and can do no evil" kind of aspect. being local doesn't make you a town hero, you're just local. Some of the problems family owned places can be pretty damn serious too. Sometimes if family is involved, family working together all the time can put huge strain on the family themselves. Sometimes friends work at a local place with kind hearts and owners can take advantage of that (making them work for free, or giving them pay or items that undervalue their work). Obviously Pierre works alone (i think) so at least some of that stuff doesn't involve him but in a way Jojo and Pierre are comparable, and in some ways they totally aren't. Local stores have a closer network with who they work with, which can either be a very sweet thing or sometimes it can become kind of bitter, or sometimes local stores do things bad enough where locals will flat out boycott them. It doesn't make Jojo a saint by any means but there's also a double edged sword where sometimes small towns get a larger store and its almost kind of nice since you get a lot more food options or options in general that you never had before, or if you live in a large spread out country like the USA, you can have a store thats so much more convenient to go to. Its still bad that corporate stores cause smaller stores to close sometimes, but i wouldn't say they are "pure evil" either, its more like a dark grey.
Excellent point! I get we should root for the little guy. But sometimes the little guys is just the one who was born here. That makes him "one of us." but why should I like him just because he's from here? Lol. Joja is still awful though.
I think Pierre and Joja represent America's capitalism and corporations in conflict with smaller businesses. Pierre is a lesser of two evils. Yes, he's not a good person, and if there was another grocery store owner (who isn't Joja) in town, I would shop from them! But I would prefer to support a local business because, as far as we know, what will stop Joja from increasing their prices and buying out other aspects of the town if Pierre has to shut down his shop because he can't compete? Joja feels like a fictional Wal-Mart. It swoops in, results in local businesses shutting down due to their inability to compete with the steeper price cut (due to outsourcing all their products and paying their employees a low wage with long hours and no benefits), and then becomes the only source for buying anything!
First time I played Stardew I totally didn't notice this stuff, but since playing it for a second time I really feel bad for his family. Allll he ever cares about is selling stuff, even during holidays !! Poor Caroline. Can't wait to see what you have next for her :o and congrats on 1k
As a stardew valley player that doesnt care much about the lore (its very good but still) and still didnt finish the community center, pierre is just the villain for NOT SELLING ME ANYTHING ON WEDNESDAYS.
Started to get back into this game with a friend. Before I would always quit before spring was anywhere near close to ending. I never knew this game had such big lore and stuff. A lot of the towns people have so much back story to me. It amazed me this game was only like 600 megabytes despite being so big.
To be fair, once you befriend him he just straight up sends you money in the mail, so from a purely mercenary perspective he is still good to be friends with
I don't think anybody really went the Community Center route bc of Pierre. I did it bc I see the valley as a place to escape, to chill. And having a big corporation start business there only means it will eventually just turn into a chaotic city with tons of stores and companies doing their worst, as we've seen it happen around the world.
ok now I want a mod/update where Emily give us a quest, we bring her some stuff and/or money and she give us one more row in the inventory... because 36 slots aint enough for me lol
I’m surprised by how many people thought Pierre’s “secret stash” was weed. Caroline literally gets you high in her cut scene so it makes no sense that Pierre would need to hide that from her. Given his personality, the pinned comment about him hiding excess money makes the most sense. He’s all about that greed
I am in my first run of Stardew Valley and I am happy to know other people think Pierre is a complicated character too. Great video!! You showed up in my recommendations by surprise and now I really want to watch the Caroline one!!
I did full community center on my first playthrough and goaded Pierre not knowing any better. First thought during that cutscene was Pierre killed Morris. A punch strong enough to make someone blast off like Team Rocket is fatal. That's not considering Morris' corpse making a hole through the community center roof.
Honestly even though I liked stardew valley. It really really has a sort of.... Just negative vibe and undercurrent all the way through with any townspeople or NPCs. There's always this vibe no matter how prosperous you make the place or how good you are to people and no matter how much you've rebuilt everything. It has this negative undercurrent to the happy bright graphics and farmlife. I know it's not supposed to be a 1:1 clone of harvest moon's vibe or style but is ConcernedApe okay? Are things good at home? People had to make a "Make marriage less depressing" mod for god's sake.
Ultimately I'm picking the lesser of two evils. Pierre might be a bit corrupt, but at least I'm doing the environment a favor by making Joja, who's also pretty corrupt, go away. Of course people have plenty of right to be ticked off at Pierre otherwise, because his corruption's a bit more subtle and played off as him being naive primarily. Joja's more in-your-face from the game presentation perspective and many townspeople make comments about their pollution, unhealthy soda, and their blatant open desire for acquisition and just general company megacorporation predatory business practices. On the other hand, the townspeople are adjusted to Pierre, but they don't know Morris. They don't really know Morris's motivations. Granted... it doesn't take much to know what Morris is up to. He's got dollar signs in his eyes with all that corporate talk. Ultimately, Pierre is just the better choice for Stardew Valley... but, obviously that doesn't mean there can't be better, yes.
somwthing else i think that is very important is the fact joja introduces options to the towns people. if we get rid of joja pierre is the only grocer left in all of pelican town, meaning he could hike his prices as high as he wants and nobody could do anything !!
I knew from the second i saw that golden shrine in his house that he was the villain. I go Joja every time now lol.. at least Morris helps rebuild the town with all the money you give him.
CA: Yeah so I basically fit this character in that sells a bunch of stuff across the season holidays and also sells some basic necessities, just a small mechanic, doesn’t affect the personality too much. Community: Pierre bad lol
I would love to see a live action show based on Stardew valley but not like Riverdale. No added murder plots or sex. Just the show with all the skeleton and slime killing as a fantasy element
@@Leapalot all of joja, i guess. I mean, Morris is just doing his job. The things he says and does are probably directives from corporate. We don’t even know if he has days off because we never see him during festivals.
As bad as he is, it doesn’t excuse his wife cheating. Cheating on a partner is always a big NO unless you truly are depraved and believe destroying the trust of a loved one for a quick bit of physical gratification is acceptable.
I think one of major reasons why Pierre hates Morris & Joja is because they are his dark reflection & desires. Yes Joja is the main antagonist of the game but Pierre is obviously not an innocent victim.
Pierre is just a typical shop owner, and whatever his stash was just makes him human not bad. He's a bit greedy but i think he learns his lesson when get's called out for over pricing those gold star products.
I feel like the issue with whatever he's hiding isn't so much the item itself, but the fact that he's hiding it from Caroline. (Why your character is snooping around in the first place is another topic for another day.) I kind of wish there was an option in between the other two for that scene, something along the lines of, "I'm not going to snitch you out, but you need to be honest with your wife about this and stop sneaking around."
@@jennifercavenee7572 well it can't be worse than his wife screwing another man, i think she's the one who needs to be honest. this poor bloke been raising another mans daughter without even knowing
Eh, I think people are looking too deep into this, which normally I have no problem with, but it’s weird when it’s about making a character look as bad as possible. Really, I see Pierre’s obsession with money and business more so as a reflection of the player’s own desire to sell crops for money. As the player sells more and more they realize that they get the same excitement from making money that someone like Pierre does, showing that it’s possible to want money and not be greedy. Punching the Joja representative in the face is only ever satisfying considering when you remember that Joja is a company that literally works it’s employees to death! And forced you to live a life of eternal boredom and tedium. The heart scenes also have much more reasonable interpretations looking at them, which I won’t go fully into but I’ll stand by nonetheless. Selling the produce back could be a number of things, more than likely the townsfolk just assume that it’s from Pierre, and while stealing credit does suck and is a genuine flaw, it’s not like he doesn’t compensate financially you for what you give him. Lastly, I see no problem with trying to continue your business during the holidays, it’s something a lot of struggling store owners do and there’s nothing stating Pierre doesn’t also spend time with his family. Considering the player always leaves right after they get whatever benefit they came for, Pierre hardly seems like the odd one out.
Couple of things I would say. You're right that this is just a silly hot take, and everything is super drawn out to the max. I absolutely think Pierre's greed reflects the player's, and that we're often not aware of our own goals while criticizing others. It's like when you get upset when an enemy uses a potion in Pokemon lol. But he is greedy. Full stop. That doesn't change based on whether or not the player is greedy. Even if you're playing a very minimalist play through, Pierre will still (mostly) only have dialogue related to money. I know it's just a game and that's his programmed dialogue, but that's the point. He's not capable of growth beyond that state. Morris doesn't work people to death. He's just a dude. His company is evil, and maybe he's a jerk, but I think knocking someone through the ceiling because you were living a life of boredom and tedium is a little extreme. I never knocked out my high school teachers! I would love to hear that stuff you're talking about on the heart scenes! Pierre actually tells them that he grew the produce, or foraged the goods or whatever. But only if it's high quality. If it's low, he's honest about where it came from. But you're not wrong. He does pay for it. I would also hesitate to generalize the players at holidays. I know that I frequently will come in, buy the stuff I want, then bounce. (which is what I assume you're referencing) But I think a lot of people take genuine appreciation of the whole festival, and they only leave because time doesn't pass in any way. Don't get me wrong. I recognize that I'm making pretty silly videos about a pretty silly idea. I know that none of this needs to be said. He's just a whole bunch of code, and not representative of a real person. If he were a real person, there's no way I would be this harsh! People have feelings! I just think that there's some truth to most of what I said. (in this video at least!)
@@Leapalot That’s perfectly valid. I dunno, I feel someone’s gotta stand up for him. And it’s not you’re fault to be fair, it’s just a popular take I disagree with. I’ve always seen Pierre as a guy with big ambitions but struggling financially, only for your constant support of his business to allow him to finally feel accomplished. I feel this narrative has significance for many of the town’s residents where your influence changes them for the better. I will also though that even though I think Joja is worse than Pierre overall, having their business shut down and leaving Shane, Sam, and Leah without jobs is a pretty damning unintended side effect. I personally I think it’s entirely up to interpretation whether this is Pierre’s, the Townsfolk’s, or the Player’s fault.
Yeah I’m that person uses seed makers. As much as I don’t like Joja, I don’t like Pierre. So my own personal goal in the game is to become as self sufficient as possibly. Which is funny cause I can go months without needing anything or only buying one or two items and I’ll still get a fat money back check from him each month.
When I first built the community center, I honestly felt bad, because Morris had a lot of respect for his emplees, Shane had a steady job at joja, and despite how he says things sometimes, he was just doing his job and expanding the company. Kinda wish there was a bit more of a compromise, but choices like this wouldn't be so interesting if there was always a perfect in between.
Willy is my soul creature, I chose the more violent option for the first time while replaying the game, now purchased on the switch at this point, and I was ecstatic to watch Robin freaking out by the bookshelf, and Willy... not even giving a fuck as to what was going on behind him. You have George goading it on, cheering for the violence, Robin freaking out, Pierre's wife panicking and wanting it to stop, and just... Willy. Not a care in the world, only the fishtank had his attention. I'd probably also opt to stare at the fish rather than watch a fight to though 😂 Not because it's uninteresting, but because I find fish to be incredibly fascinating and it's enjoyable to watch them
i always thought that pierre was like that because his business struggles so much and he is the sole worker in his family, but i guess it loses its believability in the late game when you spend tons of money there all the time
5:25 “I doubt it’s drugs because nobody it town would seem to buy that” Lol But it’s canon Sebastian smokes weed because Robin says “I found an ashtray in Sebastian’s room, it smelled really weird. Should I be worried?” Not to mention what I call “the little blue bong” in his marriage room. That, my friends is not a normal vase and in what world would Sebastian need an empty flower vase in his dark dank ;) room?
I never knew about pierre hate until i ventured outside of the wiki lmao i saw him as someone whos kinda too stupid to pay attention to his family but not like, in a malicous way? and in-game everyone talks about joja's low prices but...joja prices are higher than pierre's and im a cheapskate sure i have a basement full of gold starfruit wine but im not paying an extra 5 gold get out
This is why in late game I usually just end up using the greenhouse with crops that have multiple harvests, turning my basement into a winery, and using my animals for profit. The only people I spend money with after that is usually just Marnie, Robin, or sometimes Sandy.
I found Pierre super shady already on my first farm Definitely did not cheer on the punching scene I just wished there was an option to co-exist, I hated that I had to choose either piece of shit Pierre or big bad Joja/Morris Lewis doesn't do his work and the citizens don't even try to reach out to each other (Except the women on Tuesday) so that is clearly what is wrong with the community Blaming Joja is just a great way to not take responsibility
The social decay that you as a player help reverse is caused by people being inattentive to each other and too focused on their own needs. The frame given by your grandfather is that being in a small community gives you the possibility to connect with people, but while he has been gone, that obviously hasn't been practised much. Joja is both a symptom of this decay and a cause for its acceleration as it encourages the individualistic and soulless lifestyle.
If I remeber correctly, Pierre doesnt say anything about attractiveness of the women in stardewvalley and just in general seems very insistent on hating his "Standard" unexciting life. he talks about moving to the city getting a new shop and having a new life. he constantly hides things from his wife even when talking to the player but shows no signs of having an affair. I could absolutely see the thing he is hiding in the cutscene being one of 3 things, either 1 he's just a terrible shop keeper and is in debt but doesn't want his wife to know. (to me it doesn't make much sense considering he talks so openly about not making much profit to the public) 2 its divorce papers for caroline. both of them have dialogue about being unhappy in the relationship, especially considering that according to caroline, Pierre has jealousy issues, and pierre thinks Abby might not even be his kid. 3 its G*y P**n, and it turns out pierre is actually just gay and wants to escape from his family to move back to this city and live a life of excitement that feels more natural to him. (this could also be why there is some suttle sexism towards women maybe because he just misunderstands them? or it could just be because of the jealousy that he feels toward his wife, being redirected to his daughter in a very controlling way, idk.) he also has a few flamboyent interests and isn't religious so who knows. or it could just be that its all of the above combined.
What if Pierre was doing all of that just to protect the valley from jojamart, i mean, mr krabs was able to keep external competition out of bikini bottom despite all his bad business schemes
As a woman, I always got the impression during Abby's 6 heart event, that he's just being overly protective and hasn't come to grasp with the idea that she is no longer his little baby girl and is now a grownup and in college woman. I see nothing in his behavior that would suggest he would treat a son differently. Well other than the fact that irl moms and dads tend to be more protective of their daughters (for reason that can be sexist both ways, but not necessarily sexist at all), but since he shows no other signs of sexism, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Especially since Caroline also treats Abigail this way as well, the main difference is that Abigail is able to voice her annoyance to Caroline in a much more constructive way (instead of just screaming and stomping off) and Caroline is actually more willing to listen to Abigail when she explains why shes upset(though whether Caroline is just more willing to listen than Pierre is or Abigail's calmer behavior with her mother causes a calmer response in turn, is debatable). Also, Pierre doesn't attack Morris unless we demand they fight. Not saying that makes Pierre innocent, doing wrong because of peer pressure is still doing wrong, but we are at best an accessory to the assault. So it seems a bit hypocritical to call him a bad person for something he doesn't do unless we push him to do it, both the player and Pierre are bad in this senario. Other than those two things, I think the video is spot on.
That event is the only instance of Pierre doing anything remotely sexist, and he doesn't admonish the female farmer during the event for anything but encouraging his daughter to do dangerous things, and the only thing he says that could be interpreted as sexist is refer to the child which he's being overly protective of as "young lady". that event always feels more like Pierre being overly protective and than his angsty teenage daughter intentionally finding the most offensive way to interpret what he said so that she can get away without being punished.
You mentioning the grange actually made me realize: Pierre is just the middle-man. We grow the plants, then sell them to Pierre for him to sell them to our neighbors. Therefore, he shouldn't have a display on the grange. He doesn't make the crops, he just sells them. We and Marnie are the ones with the farms!
@@Leapalot eesh, would be a real deal breaker on friendships in real life. Sadly, though, I'm going for eight/ten hearts on everyone, so I gotta befriend the smiling trash bag.
Something that bugs me about Pierre is that his business isn't really that threatened by Joja. If you go the JojaMart route and buy a membership, Pierre's shop stays in business. Joja is painted to be evil, but I don't really think it's that bad. I mean, having to pay for upgrades yourself instead of the town doing it sucks, but it's cheaper and easier in the long run.
Pierre is easily my least favorite stardew character. I love the community center route, but the fact that Pierre comes out on top definitely sours the ending a little
Honestly, as an aspiring writer, Pierre makes me confused about Concerned Ape's intent in writing. It's hard to tell if Pierre Vs. Joja is meant to be a lesson in going against big corporates and modern stuff, or if Pierre is really evil.
The analysis is great. However, I must say, I think people overthink Stardew Valley. To me, it always felt like a sitcom comedy. Some things seem so awful, but it's just a sort of joke? It's the feeling I get of a lot of the dialogues and sayings in the game. Maybe it's not a big history with secret meanings hidden, maybe it's just a funny simple thing. Even though story seems to be very important in these farming games, i never really took it serious...
I just binged your whole playlist. I loved these theories. Have you considered doing one one Sebastian and the family? There's a lot of stuff there but, I haven't seen people theorizing on anything. The family seems to prefer Maru over Sebastian...yep, even Robin. Unless Robin wants to tell me that Seb didn't want a skylight to the basement. Also, why is he in the basement? I think I saw a theory where Mary's room used to be Sebastian's. Demetrius doesn't seem to care about him much...also Morris might be related to Sebastian? That's last part is a bit of a stretch though.
Hey glad you liked it! I want to do Robin, Demetrius, and their family at some point. There really aren't any households that are boring, but I think theirs is one of the more interesting ones. The reason I'm waiting is because I don't think I'll be able to start talking about any of them without doing all four of them. I'm not quite ready to tackle that large of a project at the moment!
@@Leapalot agreed on their household being one of the more interesting ones and yeah...if you tackle one you tackle all because, oh boy, are these guys a packaged deal. I just find Sebs' Point of View more interesting. Maybe I'm being biased since I tend to go for him as bachelor option number 1. Although...the tomato scene😅😅😅😂. Gotta give Robin a point for that.
Thanks for that info!
literally no one thought of this! very interesting info
That’s pretty interesting. I wonder why they would translate it like that. Stash in English could refer to secret money but it could also refer to drugs, so is it possibly a poor translation?
@@shareefabuhajah3298 Japanese is a high context language. We use less words but more descriptive words (mostly).
@@CaptainYoshi06 The important part is how involved the translator was with the intentions of the original English.

How's this for a theory:
Several Stardew Valley characters used to be part of an adventuring party.

@@cleanerwhite9470 oh I forgot he did that, yeah that is really rude!

... that's when I understood

There are already mods that add new vendors while there are some that will allow you to buy at a discount.

Also the farmer basically is the one giving the town products if we started selling our own stuff it would leave Pierre destitute 💀
I think that would be fun! But it would definitely take a ton of work to implement.
This reminds me of Harvest Moon Grand Bazaar. Sell your own products directly without relying on the 3rd party.
Here in Australia at least, there's lots of small farms, and it's not hard to find small stands where people are selling fresh produce. I really like that idea :)

"The sword dude", you mean Marlon? The guild guy?

If Pierre is a former boxer, there’s potential brain damage involved in that, which can lead to A LOT of mood and behavioral disorders. This includes paranoia and, irritability among other things. Yay It may be part of why he has such a difficult time with his family, a secret stash, and difficulty being able to understand that his business practices aren’t, always the best.
And, with only ONE doctor in town, who seems mostly general in his practice, Pierre would have little access to actual treatment for any concussions he received while boxing

Okay, now we gotta add Pierre into Punch-Out
I love how George says “GET HIM!” When they are fighting 😭😂😂
And the “hah! Good stuff” 💀
Let's be honest. If George could walk, he would've joined in the fight himself.
all I can hear are oblivion guards "It's been a while since I've seen a good brawl"

Not potentially illegal. It literally was. Walmart got ordered by the courts to increase prices

To say he is not happy with you is an understatement. i think joja is so comically evil that theres just no way to frame them as good, but i think having the perspective of both shop owners being antagonists and bad people is a really cool twist on how to view the game
Two types of business owners. Joja buys everything outside the valley through and making villagers pay to upgrade their own lands. With a shitty logo.
1. It really confuses me that he is closed on Wedensdays when he's "struggling to stay afloat" but when the competition is gone suddenly he doesn't need a day off?
2. I was actually horrified at how Pierre acted when I completed the community center
Like the boycott was stressful: Jodi and Pam are both noted as being unable to afford Pierre's products, people who don't live in the valley drive all the way out there for work (implying they couldn't find work closer to where they live) and while Sam is at least able to find a new job but Shane is put out of work afterwords
Yes in the long run big corporations being pushed aside infavor of small businesses is a good thing, but can we just ignore the short term damages
I legitimately don't feel like a town hero after completing the community center
Like Morris is sketchy but he's really just doing his job at the end of the day. He probably worked really hard to be able to run his own store and is trying to show corporate he's good enough to run a bigger store/a store in a better location
Going to your compeditor to hand out coupons makes Morris unredeemable in my opinion.

I guess Yoba have some connection to the space, cosmic power and iridium (like mention in library book about swirl and light or something)
- why Krobus believe in Yoba?
(since the clue for 3 pillars were in dwarf language)
It was brutal fight of two species that hold cosmic power.

@Leapalot yeah definitely and Morris, despite probably only doing said actions out of orders, is still kinda cruddy.
I don't like him per say but he's better than joja at least, we literally see a skeleton when we still work there
I think Pierre and Joja represent America's capitalism and corporations in conflict with smaller businesses.

I don't think anybody really went the Community Center route bc of Pierre. I did it bc I see the valley as a place to escape, to chill. And having a big corporation start business there only means it will eventually just turn into a chaotic city with tons of stores and companies doing their worst, as we've seen it happen around the world.

Wow! One of the best stardew “theory” style videos in a long time! Keep it up :)
Glad you liked it!

somwthing else i think that is very important is the fact joja introduces options to the towns people. if we get rid of joja pierre is the only grocer left in all of pelican town, meaning he could hike his prices as high as he wants and nobody could do anything !!

I would love to see a live action show based on Stardew valley but not like Riverdale. No added murder plots or sex. Just the show with all the skeleton and slime killing as a fantasy element
I thought Pierre was hiding chocolate😭😭😭
I’ve always thought that Pierre and Mayor Lewis are more villaious than Jojamart
More than all of Joja? Or just Morris? lol.
@@Leapalot all of joja, i guess. I mean, Morris is just doing his job. The things he says and does are probably directives from corporate. We don’t even know if he has days off because we never see him during festivals.
Maybe the bouquet thing is why joja sells flower seeds for cheaper than Pierre..
As bad as he is, it doesn’t excuse his wife cheating. Cheating on a partner is always a big NO unless you truly are depraved and believe destroying the trust of a loved one for a quick bit of physical gratification is acceptable.
Wasn't it hinted he cheated first?
I think one of major reasons why Pierre hates Morris & Joja is because they are his dark reflection & desires. Yes Joja is the main antagonist of the game but Pierre is obviously not an innocent victim.
Pierre is just a typical shop owner, and whatever his stash was just makes him human not bad. He's a bit greedy but i think he learns his lesson when get's called out for over pricing those gold star products.
Honestly, the fact that it's the cherry music during that scene makes me think it's just something cheeky and not harmful.
I fucking love how George cheered him on when he fought morris
About him reflecting the player's greed, now I am curious of how would you consider a minimalist/not greedy playthrough?
At this point instead of buying seeds from Pierre I just spawn them in
Yeah I’m that person uses seed makers. As much as I don’t like Joja, I don’t like Pierre. So my own personal goal in the game is to become as self sufficient as possibly. Which is funny cause I can go months without needing anything or only buying one or two items and I’ll still get a fat money back check from him each month.
Another option for something that Pierre hides behind the bookcase is a weapon. I feel it fits the idea that Caroline would deserve to know about it.
Oh my! I definitely would not guess that.
When I first built the community center, I honestly felt bad, because Morris had a lot of respect for his emplees, Shane had a steady job at joja, and despite how he says things sometimes, he was just doing his job and expanding the company. Kinda wish there was a bit more of a compromise, but choices like this wouldn't be so interesting if there was always a perfect in between.
where is the respect bro do u see the ginger joja girl's eyebags
@@siilverREAL true, she is never late and always there
Willy is my soul creature, I chose the more violent option for the first time while replaying the game, now purchased on the switch at this point, and I was ecstatic to watch Robin freaking out by the bookshelf, and Willy... not even giving a fuck as to what was going on behind him. You have George goading it on, cheering for the violence, Robin freaking out, Pierre's wife panicking and wanting it to stop, and just... Willy. Not a care in the world, only the fishtank had his attention.
I'd probably also opt to stare at the fish rather than watch a fight to though 😂 Not because it's uninteresting, but because I find fish to be incredibly fascinating and it's enjoyable to watch them
i always thought that pierre was like that because his business struggles so much and he is the sole worker in his family, but i guess it loses its believability in the late game when you spend tons of money there all the time
He can feed his family sap like how is he NOT a villian
5:25 “I doubt it’s drugs because nobody it town would seem to buy that”
Lol But it’s canon Sebastian smokes weed because Robin says “I found an ashtray in Sebastian’s room, it smelled really weird. Should I be worried?” Not to mention what I call “the little blue bong” in his marriage room. That, my friends is not a normal vase and in what world would Sebastian need an empty flower vase in his dark dank ;) room?
Pierre's actually buying from Sebastian!
Sebastian, you are the weed dealer!
Churches don't pay taxes he is the ultimate bag chaser
I never knew about pierre hate until i ventured outside of the wiki lmao
i saw him as someone whos kinda too stupid to pay attention to his family but not like, in a malicous way? and in-game everyone talks about joja's low prices but...joja prices are higher than pierre's and im a cheapskate sure i have a basement full of gold starfruit wine but im not paying an extra 5 gold get out
This is why in late game I usually just end up using the greenhouse with crops that have multiple harvests, turning my basement into a winery, and using my animals for profit. The only people I spend money with after that is usually just Marnie, Robin, or sometimes Sandy.
Yeah. End game I usually become pretty self sufficient. But Pierre cashes in until then!
I found Pierre super shady already on my first farm
Definitely did not cheer on the punching scene
I just wished there was an option to co-exist, I hated that I had to choose either piece of shit Pierre or big bad Joja/Morris
Lewis doesn't do his work and the citizens don't even try to reach out to each other (Except the women on Tuesday) so that is clearly what is wrong with the community
Blaming Joja is just a great way to not take responsibility
The social decay that you as a player help reverse is caused by people being inattentive to each other and too focused on their own needs. The frame given by your grandfather is that being in a small community gives you the possibility to connect with people, but while he has been gone, that obviously hasn't been practised much. Joja is both a symptom of this decay and a cause for its acceleration as it encourages the individualistic and soulless lifestyle.
Your channel used to be small only hundreds now its 1k that's amazing here's to hoping the algorithm is good to you and your content be grand.
Hey, thanks a ton! I would say the channel is still quite small, but the projections are looking up!
I could absolutely see the thing he is hiding in the cutscene being one of 3 things, either
1 he's just a terrible shop keeper and is in debt but doesn't want his wife to know. (to me it doesn't make much sense considering he talks so openly about not making much profit to the public)
2 its divorce papers for caroline. both of them have dialogue about being unhappy in the relationship, especially considering that according to caroline, Pierre has jealousy issues, and pierre thinks Abby might not even be his kid.
If you haven't done Gus, I'd love to see a video in Gus! I feel like a lot of people forget he exists, but he seems like a nice guy
I love Gus! He's just a genuinely good guy. That's a good suggestion. It might be a nice video to do right after a more troublesome character!
What if Pierre was doing all of that just to protect the valley from jojamart, i mean, mr krabs was able to keep external competition out of bikini bottom despite all his bad business schemes
Pierre: *loves money*
also Pierre: *closes shop at the middle of weekdays*
He loves money, not working. I get it. 😅
As a starter
Every spring i would buy alot of potatoes
Can you imagine rolling up the farmer's market with your neighbor's crops? 😬
True. He actually has to work less when you do the Joja route vs community center...🤔
Grampa Mullner like "Get him!"
Pierre is easily my least favorite stardew character. I love the community center route, but the fact that Pierre comes out on top definitely sours the ending a little
Ay yo, did you really just put the bomb in the alter room 😂
Really wishing to be able to date Caroline in the game just to spite him
5:23 That Reddit discussion has more “REDACTED”s than an SCP article.
Honestly, as an aspiring writer, Pierre makes me confused about Concerned Ape's intent in writing. It's hard to tell if Pierre Vs. Joja is meant to be a lesson in going against big corporates and modern stuff, or if Pierre is really evil.
I think the moral is that sometimes there's not a good guy.
Just a less bad guy...
@@Leapalot Eh, fair enough.
I've been doing a save where I buy nothing from Pierre or joja. Difficult but not impossible.
I agree that Pierre is kind of a big jerk. What I mean is that maybe most of these are just exaggerated jokes
Thanks! I don't think it's necessary, but I do think it's fun!
I chose Peire because I didn’t like the Joja color scheme
You know what? That's as good a reason as any!
