How To Make A Furled Leader
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2018
- Using furled leaders on the flats can help a huge amount for some of the larger species such as milkfish and bumnphead parrotfish. Not only do they have built in abrasion resistance, but they are naturally tapered if tied correctly aiding in presentation. In this video Wesley De Klerk from FlyCastaway demonstrates his methods for tying furled leaders.
In this demonstration we are using a doubled up leader of 1.8m in length (total 3.6m), 4 strand at 40cm and then 70cm to the second strand.

Cheers. Great tips.
Thanks!
I have been experiencing break-offs on the strip set on big barramundi lately. Too many I want to admit! I think this leader will cut down on that tremendously! Thanks for sharing!
brilliant demonstration........my buddy used to prep these for me now I can make my own!
Thanks for the comment John, delighted it was helpful….
Thank you. I did this first time with 5x. Your instruction made it easy.
Fantastic John! Well done!
Love it
Glad it was helpful!
Good to know. Thank you for the info. Will go try it.
So Pete will the guides tie up some of these for us if we bring plenty of material? Looks to be a good approach but will feel a lot better if a pro ties them than a first timer.
suggest making the video wearing some thing black or dark background. the light shirt not helping see the mono, otherwise thanks good info.
Interesting....I am going to try to make two for trout fishing: 6 lb. and 8 lb., 4 strand and check them out!
Yessssssss
nice thanks
Thanks for the comment!
Is this fluorocarbon? for Tenkara?
Mono… for saltwater flats fishing…
This is great stuff. thanks
I tied a couple after viewing this and once you get going you can make a couple in an evening.
My question is, on a 9 foot leader in let say 1X or 0X for bone fish for instance, what length would you give the 4 layers and the 2 layers? between a foot and a foot in a half each or longer. Won't the twisted leader have a tendency to flash and spook the bones?
thanks again
Thanks for show this . I started making 2 in one ferrule leader and my fly delivery is great however I'm using a vintage silk line. Love the way the line lays down when casting .
This is a Twisted leader not Furled leader - completely different techniques. Furling is a similar technique to rope making and requires a furling jig.
Thanks for commenting!
Might be better with a red mono so we can see it easier
Thanks for the comment, will try that next time..
English subtites would enhance it as Yarpee English is as bad as Yankee drawl.
🤣🤣🤣
