    Love my mid century modern home, it was built in 1959 (we are the second owner). we haven't changed anything either. The only thing we are going to remodel update is the bathroom that services the hall and the kitchen, when we do we will stay faithful, to the mid century modern design and an aesthetic.
    your home is absolutely beautiful!

      Thank you! Glad you are going to keep yours true to the style when you do change it. I realized some things just wear out over time and you have to replace things. Those little ovens are great as far as heating and cooking but the size is limiting for sure.

    Thank you for keeping everything original! I love the personality & character of older homes. It’s so unique compared to what we see today…which is boring & way too cookie cutter.
    If you ever decide to sell & move PLEASE make sure you sell to someone, like yourselves, that will love this gem just as it is & not try to update & remodel. This house deserves to be cherished & taken good care of like the treasure it is!

      Thank you, I agree. And we did end up selling to get off the busy street and into a more private property. The person who bought it wanted to keep it original too! She bought it for a type of air b n b and to rent out for parties. If I could have moved the house I would have stayed forever!

    I grew up in a house during the 60s and 70s that was filled with paneling and shag carpeting. This brings back some old memories. Thanks, folks. (I think our house was built in 1958.)

    Two dishwashers are a bonus. You can always have a dirty and a clean one. Fiddle around if you didn't yet, with your routine. I am going to do the same once I move and have enough space for 2 dishwashers as well. You just alternate between them (or use both after a party, that's how the ultra wealthy do it).

Loook at the Big Chill retro refrigerator. You can get it colormatched with those great ovens and dishwashers! All the other changes and updates are perfect! Thanks for sharing. Also, love those kitties!

    Wow, what an incredible experience to step into a time capsule of the mid-century era with this house tour! Every corner of the space exudes authenticity, transporting visitors back to a bygone era of sleek lines, bold colors, and iconic furniture pieces. The attention to detail is remarkable - from the pristine kitchen appliances that have stood the test of time to the vibrant and textured wallpapers that define the era's design sensibilities.
    Walking through the living room, it's impossible not to admire the original Eames lounge chair and the exquisite teakwood cabinetry. The sun-soaked rooms are adorned with stunning mid-century artwork, accentuating the era's artistic flair. The open floor plan seamlessly connects different areas, fostering a sense of unity and functionality that was ahead of its time.
    The bedrooms are a symphony of warm wood tones and simple yet elegant furnishings. The original light fixtures that gently illuminate the rooms evoke a feeling of nostalgia for a time when design was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It's fascinating how the mid-century architecture prioritized the integration of nature, evident through the large windows that bring the outdoors in and the carefully landscaped gardens that frame the house.
    As you explore the house, you can't help but appreciate the dedication to preservation that has maintained this mid-century gem. It's not just a house tour; it's a journey through history and design evolution. Being surrounded by all these original elements is like being a part of a living museum, offering a unique glimpse into the lifestyle and design ethos of an era that continues to captivate us today.

    Wow! Great tour. Great house. I'm not sure if the bathroom and daughters wall paper is original, but its definitely in great shape. Consider dyeing the living room curtains if you want a change. The bedroom curtains... Well, I would not feel bad about removing the parts you don't like. It was the taste of the original owner who happened to live in the mid-century. You should feel free to do your own mid-century take on it since you are the owner now. 🙂 Happy you found the mango counter under the tile. that looks amazing! You should be very proud.

    BTW: That sink with the cool Presidential/U.S. Seal at 15:05 is very likely a memorial/homage to the recently assassinated JFK and the brief "Camalot" era of the Kennedy administration. That was a very big thing beginning in 1964 when they also came out with the Kennedy Half-Dollar and many homes hase the memorial busts, and tapestry rugs came out. I'd look underneath and see if there's a maker mark or model number. Regardless, its one more cool detail that's very 1964.

    Hi karen, The kitchen exhaust fan is blowing back into kitchen because it most likely has no ductwork. You can find out if it has ductwork by opening the cabinets above the fan. If you do have ductwork, there should be a pipe that runs out from the top of the exhaust fan and into the ceiling or into the wall. If not, it would need to be installed if you'd want it to work properly. I live in a home built in 1957 and the exhaust fan in the kitchen never had ductwork! Hope you can figure it out. Beautiful home by the way (:

      Thank you, you are too kind! I have actually moved into a pretty cool late 80s house since this house we wanted to get off the busy street and then some other things happened. I won’t go into but anyways needless to say the poster didn’t come with me either I will be doing a video on this house. Stay tuned I’m gonna try to do it by the end of the month I just have to get a couple of the rooms straightened up still.

    I just wish you would have kept your husband in mind when you decorated your bedroom, yes men say it’s okay but is mostly to not make their wife mad/sad. We women do this a lot but It is not our bedroom only.

    I thought americans walk with shoes inside the house?

    • @karent743
      @karent743  10 місяців тому

      Yes, a lot of us do. I just didn’t in that house because of the light floors. It saved me a lot of cleaning to have people remove their shoes. I have moved since that video and I do wear shoes in my new house. I guess it’s common in other countries to take your shoes off? Where do you live?

    • @lexxxsuperior
      @lexxxsuperior 10 місяців тому

      @@karent743 I live in Norway currently. From what I know in most countries its not normal to walk inside the home with shoes on. Walking inside the house in socks is the standart. Some like to use slippers, especially if the floor is cold, or if you need to go to the balcony or in the garage or something. There are different kind of slippers too. You can have your regular rubber ones, or the more cozy and plushy ones. Personally I like walking barefoot. It's just that good sensation of feeling the floor under your soles. Makes me be closer the earth. Walking barefoot is also good for the feet health. I guess its a quaint American thing to be walking inside the house with shoes on haha. I have always found it peculiar as a kid when I watched American movies and saw that the characters walk inside with shoes on. I was thinking "Aren't they making the floors dirty?" or "Maybe it's just for the movie". Then I realized that they do actually walk with shoes on inside for some unexplainable reason. Just downright peculiar.

      @@lexxxsuperior that’s funny, I never knew it was an “American thing “ I knew most Asians took their shoes off , as a sign of respect? At least that’s what I was told. I was always raised with shoes on in the house so I never thought anything of it. I didn’t realize it’s uncommon in most countries. I have pets and I personally don’t like the feel of hair ,or whatever they drag in from outside, on my bare feet. I did wear inside slippers or flip flops in my other house. I am actually more comfortable with my shoes on, but I always wear comfortable shoes , I suppose if I wore stilettos or something uncomfortable, I would want to take them off when at home. Good to learn things about other places! Thanks for the info. I plan on doing a tour of my new house soon, and I will be wearing my shoes 😁
      I wanted to add that when I did have people remove their shoes in my other house, most people reacted like it was a pain and I was putting them out to have them take their shoes off.

      We already moved and sold it to someone who is keeping it original. We just had to get off that busy street. I wish I could have moved the house with us. We now have a late 80s house that is also very cool. Modern 80s , not the oak 80s .

    It's looks very nice. I suggest to get rid of the toxic LED & fluorescent lights, they are not more economical as the propaganda lies state they are, incandescent is much better. Also, remove the toxic wireless devices. Consider hiring a building biologist to make the house safe & healthy like the houses from the 50's were.
