On September 29, 2024, Bowie Texas Livestock posted 27 Belgian Draft horses on their website that were going to ship to slaughter! 16 of the 27 were colts and fillies (4 to 6 months old). The other 11 were older horses with an age range of 2-20 years old. Our foundation (Big Hoof Foundation) raised money to rescue 6 of the older Belgian Draft horses from shipping to slaughter!
A few days after we rescued the 6 horses, a very generous subscriber reached out to us because she didn't want the 4 remaining Belgian Draft horses to ship to slaughter. She offered to pay the full bail for the 4 and boarding till we could pick them up. Of course we said yes! We rescued 10 Belgian Draft horses in total! Until...Thursday night Bowie posted a Belgian filly with an injured leg that was going to ship to slaughter on Monday. She was on the direct ship list and there was no way I was going to let that happen! We rescued her as well!
Last Friday, October 4th, we picked up the first load of Belgian Draft horses along with the additional little passenger!
We hope you enjoy this video! Make sure you like, comments and subscribe to our channel so you don't miss anything happening around the farm! Because it's never a dull moment! Thank you for watching!

As a growing horse rescue group, we rely on monetary donations to keep the organization moving forward. The Big Hoof Foundation will always be transparent with how your donations are used. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the rescued horses' bail fees, transport, feed, hay, medical bills, medications, alternative medical treatments, supplements, surgeries, etc. Every dollar raised is for the horses!

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.
Alfa-Pro is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.
We are also feeding round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 2 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each.

The way we treat our livestock is a direct reflection on us as human beings.
🏆
@jeanhawken4482 That is so true! I will never understand why people have the attitude that animals are disposable, like inanimate objects. What will it take to change that attitude?! I wish I knew!
.... our livestock and other people....
Yes and it’s not good 💔
@@merriwhiskers1961
If you put God first you will understand.
He didn’t create us to live by our emotions.
He gave us wisdom and love and respect for one another and our animals.
There is a proverb that says we must take care of our animals. Can’t argue with that. ❤️
Looking at these majestic horses being abandoned and sold for the meat trade after they have worked all their lives to be betrayed by those that they served , is heartbreaking and so damn cruel, thank you to all those who stepped up to rescue all 27 horses, and baby Penelope sleeping soundly safe for the rest of her life .. Thank you Fletcher Farms, Thank you Julie x
Well, that's just the way the world is nowadays towards horses once their broken or old and worn down or get sick off to the slaughterhouse they all go to become dog food for dogs to eat or glue and I think some people even eat their meat.
Right? Imagine turning it around. Work your entire life looking forward to retirement - downtime, a bit of traveling and time with family/friends. And instead you’re slaughtered after your exciting last work day. Horrible.
@@Alex-ft1df yes sadly they ship horses live overseas to Japan to become horse sushi (eaten raw), for Rich people. $100 a plate. Thats why they send them live. Its a delicacy there. The entire flight there is a nightmare for them.. 3-4 to a small box, no food or water for up to 38 hours. Many horses just die in transit. I think the pipeline to Mexico is even worse as they are driven many hours with no food or water. The ones in the best health go to Japan and the very sick ones to Mexico.

That poor little baby has been through a lot of trauma (they all have) and I thank you for saving her and the others. I don’t know how many more you can rescue and care for, but the work you do is special for these horses. They are so deserving, and the individual care they get is beyond anything most of them have ever had in their lives.
So nicely said ❤
Amen!!
Beautifully said. You brought tears to my eyes 😢
God will bless you for your work , taking care of his animals.
Why do they slather horses and for what reason years age they did that and made dog food out of them
That baby sleeping makes me cry probably the most sleep she had in weeks 😢❤ thank God you saved her
Same. I'm here blubbering with a snot nose.
amen
Little one❤ was so exhausted.😔😓
I too am sitting crying watching this😢. Sometimes I just cannot watch it’s too upsetting for me.😢😢
@@ErikaDeyzel-yf1ot She looks like she is smiling in her sleep!
For me, the thing that stands out the most is how quickly the horses come to love Julie. They haven't been on the farm very long, but Olivia and Piper already are following her, wanting pets. And you see it in the field too, whenever Julie goes out there, one of the horses will come and hang their head over her shoulder for pets. That to me tells the level of compassion and love they are receiving. Thank you Julie, Corey, and everyone else at Fletcher Farm Amarillo and the Big Hoof Foundation. You have truly put your hearts in these rescues.
Absolutely true! I notice the same thing always.
I noticed that also, their eyes soften and their heads drop a tiny bit sometimes. So sweet and cute, they love her, and trust her. 💕
Amen
❤
They're grateful too. Horses are smart.
A huge, huge huge thank you for the lady or the man whoever was the one who was able to donate to get the additional horses. All I can say is wow and a huge thank you to that person of course you and your family.
Yes Thank you for helping your a truly a Good person 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
A wonderful lady!
Love the trailer!😊
Love your show!
❤❤❤❤
Imagine being abandoned and left for meat value, packed in with other stressed, tired and sickly horses you have never been properly introduced to. Then you hear this sweet voice saying, Hi Mamas and you’re loaded up, given food and brought to a place of kindness, rest, recovery and so much love, German muffins and scratches. I can’t imagine their fate if not for Big Hoof Foundation.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sending so much Love, gratitude and support.

Wow, just wow, to the person who donated money for these horses.
This has simply blown me away, I want to give this person something to express my appreciation for his/her heart, but what can I do other than to comment here on this site.
What a beautiful human being you are! May God bless you, and your family, may God keep you and your family safe from harm, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your love.

You could donate to the farm, anything would help with the animals daily needs.
Wow, some of these are BIG horses. Beautiful but big.
You are a saint saving these horses. Thank you.
If it’s an injury, how, how does a baby suffer that type of hurt? Ahh, poor sweet Penelope. She was exhausted and knew she was in a safe place to be able to rest. Too young to be so cruelly discarded. Thank you for rescuing her and “thank God” the 27 that were dumped were ALL rescued! Heartfelt thanks to all the other rescuers.
maybe kicked by a larger horse on the trailer

@@ginavoneiff1575 😞😫 without mommy to protect her. Such unmitigated cruelty to inflict on one so young. Sweet darling. Burns me to my core.
Deepest gratitude for saving the horses...bless you immensely...
@ginavoneiff15😅75
What a cruel life that baby filly had. Recently weaned, shipped to auction, injured somewhere along the way and soon to be on a truck to Mexico. Thank you so much for taking her. Someone kind, moral and responsible needed to step,up to amend for the cruelty of mankind. ❤️
Knowing the Amish like we do and how they feel horses are disposable after they're used up-she was probably injured on their farm. Amish NEVER ship a good horse young or old to auction that can be worked until it drops.
It’s vile how humans can treat a horse like a piece of furniture to be discarded. Thank you for all that you do.
I've seen where the babies walked along side the adults while the plowed the land. She probably was injured on the farm.😢
it's horrible that someone can do this and to the baby especially. only six months old. she is now in safe and gentle hands.
She was otherwise in very good condition. She may not have had a cruel life except for the last few weeks.
Thank you for rescuing these beautiful horses. Years ago I had several draft horses. As they got older they retired on my ranch till the end. Most passed way @ 25- to 28 years of age. I had them buried here on my ranch!. Just wonderful animals.
Bless you for caring for your horses!
i lived in an amish town in northern new york. in -10 degree weather the amish would be out in horse and buggy. the amish overwork the horses god bless you all for rescuing these horses ❤thank you
The Amish are not good stewards of what God has given them ,
And 99.9 percent get thrown away like garbage...
And this is all true because I see what goes on here in Iowa too same thing and it does not stop .
Thank you for speaking up, between this and the puppy Mills I can't believe the shameful comment I have got online for saying similar things, I know for a fact it's true, thank you for your thoughtful comment
I crr every time I watch a freedom ride but today I bawled because of Princess Penelope. That beautiful little baby was going to die for no other reason than she has a bum leg. The absolute injustice of this makes me wanna rage but she will now know love, compassion and respect because she was rescued by BHF. I hope she becomes a total diva and runs the farm like her own little kingdom. Thank you for saving this precious little girl and all of the others. They now have lives of comfort, love and respect and that is EVERYTHING!! Thank you!!!
that bum leg turned out to be her salvation - a gift for sure - now she'll know love - without the bum leg who knows what kind of life, if any, she would have
@@ginavoneiff1575 well said. The good Lord works in mysterious ways.
Watching Penelope sleep and thinking that this is probably the first real rest that she’s had. I can just imagine the collective sigh the horses make when they realize they are finally safe and loved. ❤❤
I am in shock. 😢😢😥🇬🇧 Thank you so, so, much for saving this infant. I will send something over to help with vets fees shortly. You must be overwhelmed with the amount you are taking on your shoulders. Lets hope we are the wind beneath your wings, to help uplift you when it gets tough, as I am sure it must do. You are awesome!
So glad that you adopted all of these horses so that none of them would make it to Mexico. Thank you for being so caring and loving towards the horses.
Seeing that baby Appy and all the other babies (There were quite a lot of young ones this time) made my heart clench. I wish we could just scoop them all up and save them. Thank you for saving so many. That Belgian baby...4 months is WAY TO EARLY too wean...and then they just left her there, alone and in pain. I'm SO glad she's safe now.
That's what I thought! She is way too young to have been weaned.
Jeez, Bowie is quite desensitized. Filly clearly in pain, but made to walk up and down. Makes me heartsore 😢
I was shocked he didn’t make her run
@@FletcherFarmsAmarilloMe too!😢
I am looking forward to when Penelope is all better and can run and play.
I just don't understand why people think horses with handicaps are worthless i believe they are worth living life just like everyone ❤🥰🐎
A horse is in untreatable pain is usual given the last act of kindness. On the other hand, a horse with EMM, for example, has a treatable condition for continued life.
Thank you for providing Belgian Draft Horses a respectful retirement with food, peace and kindness, friends and freedom, and the opportunity to simply BE horses. Thank you for needed medical attention and care, and the hope and promise of better tomorrows. In honor of all hard working Belgian Draft Horses gone before, eternal gratitude.
You made me cry😭
everything humans have achieved was brought about with the sweat of a horse at some point in time. we owe them everything.
That baby is sleeping so well because she is SAFE! ♥️
Thank you Julie & Corey for starting this foundation. The whole Fletcher Farms Community is absolutely amazing & never fail to dig deep when it’s needed the most. The lady who paid bail on 4 of the horses is a star & such a beautiful, kind & generous person 🥰. This video has brought tears of joy to my eyes. Not only for those who were rescued this time & the others that will be home next week but also for every horse, donkey, cat, dog, goat & chicken that you guys have rescued since Fletcher Farms inception. I have loved watching every video with all the highs & lows of watching Gods beautiful creatures being loved & cared for the way they deserve to be. Knowing they all get to feel what it’s like to be loved for possibly the first time makes all of this so worth while. You guys will all have a special place in heaven when all is said & done. I only wish there were so many more people like you on this planet. God Bless you all 🙏🏻🫶🏻🥰🥹

❤i can't THANK YOU ENOUGH for rescuing these beautiful horses 😖 Truthfully no horse should ever be able to be slaughtered! Horses are also heroes! We absolutely depended on the horse when there were no cars or trains! Now they wanted to EAT THEM 😮I literally am ashamed to be a human! I haven't eaten meat for over 25 years and never ever will again! I cannot even stand the smell of meat cookies! Ive rescued pit bull food many years and when we moved to 30 beautiful acres of our best friends place, i decided to rescue as manager neglected, abused goats that i could. Ended up rescuing 21 goats that have almost 10 fenced in acres to keep them safe. ❤i can't thank you MORE
We appreciate your support and thank you for your dedication to animal rescue!
@FletcherFarmsAmarillo well I truly appreciate all your efforts to save these beautiful horses 🐎 I wish I had the money to do this myself, but I still have my sweet goats 🐐 and have to save up for the winter hay. I've always wanted to rescue calves😣 I live two houses down from a farmer who has cows. I cringe when I see the sign CALF FOR SALE😣 When someone takes the calves, I hear the saddest sounds from the mommas😭 the mom's crying for their babies is a horrible thing hear
magnificent animals and so docile. we don't deserve them
I get so angry when I see horses in this condition, thank you so much for all you are doing to gives these beautiful horses a great home
OMG, watching baby Penelope, was breaking my heart💔, words are not enough to say how very precious you and Cory are for what you both do for these gorgeous special horse's, so very glad all the other horse's were rescued, that makes my heart sing ❤, thanks to all the rescuers, you too are amazing, thanks again from the bottom of my heart Julie.❤❤❤❤

OMG shipping a horse to slaughter is so inhumane! Thank you!❤
Your land needs agriculture TLC - grow hay the half and half way. Thank you for this miraculous rescue ❤ 😊
There is nothing I can add to the heartwarming comments except to say, when I saw that colt sound asleep, feeling safe and loved my heart just melted. You are all precious angels for the love and care you give to these beautiful animals. Thank you.

With rescue dogs I always tell people it can take up to a year for them to feel safe enough to sleep with both eyes shut. Penelope figured out right away that she was in a safe place. God bless you. Blessings that her youth will allow healing of her leg,
Thanks for saving all of them.
It was so sweet to see Princess Penelope laying down sleeping. It shows that she feels safe. My heart is melting! 💗
Horses understand way more than people realize. They're so sweet and beautiful.
It takes a lot of heart and effort to take on all the older draft horses.
Impressed and best of luck to all.
Hi Julie from Melbourne, Australia - firstly a big thank you to YOU for what you do best in rescuing these amazing horses (it takes someone with a HUGE HEART to do this) and secondly thank you so much to the generous people that donate to your rescue of these beautiful horses.
