It's a perfect combination because they had 'Stiles' in the movie and they can also begin totally new show with totally new teen wolf but still connected really good with old cast.
It wasn't he didn't want to play stiles again but he said publicly "it felt rushed" which is a nice way of saying the script was crap and he wouldn't do it without burning bridges.
